New Player, Did they Nerf IO Set Bonuses in I19?

I've only had COH for about a month, but I enjoy using MIDS to plan my future IO set purchases, I just got new MIDS for I19 (out today and not easy to get for Vista owners) and was looking at my hopeful future set bonuses and I noticed a major change!

I had used five of the Javeline sets (single and aoe ranged dmg) because among other things they listed range bonus for two set items and recharge bonus for all six set items. Now neither is there any more!

A) Did I19 nerf the Javalin IO sets that hard?
B) Was it an error in old Mids that it said they had them when they never did?
C) Is it just an error in I19 mids that they aren't listed?

for example, mids 18 listed both endur recovery and range for 2, both accuracy and recharge for 6. I19 mids just lists recovery for 2 and just accuracy for 6. I am hoping it is C above. I lost most of the recharge I had planned since as a new player I'm sure I won't be able to afford purples.

Take care,

PS I love this game! Wish I had bought it five years ago instead of WoW!

Gladiators Javelin would be a PvP IO set: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Pvp_io

http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Gladiator%27s_Javelin

Now, as far as I am aware, none of the PvP IO's are UNIQUE

So yes, the effects should stack.

What you are experiencing is probably a bug in MIDS

Remember, MIDS is not an official Paragon Studios Product. It is developed and produced by community players. Just because MIDS says or presents one thing, does not automatically mean that what it presents is accurate or true for the game itself.

EDIT: Correction - There is an error with Issue 19 Mids that it's only showing the PvE bonuses at present. Expect a fix Soon™

The bug(s) seems to be that the PvP IOs do not have their PvP set bonuses listed (at least that was true for Gladiator's Javelin) and the PvP specific bonuses do not work correctly even if added to the set in the database editor, at least when I tried to edit the database.

It should be pointed out that if you won't be able to afford purples, you definitely aren't going to be able to afford PvP sets like Gladiator's Javelin, not unless you plan on doing lots and lots of PvPing.

The above all answered perfectly.
To directly answer the question in the subject title... No, they did not nerf set bonuses!!!

By the way, welcome to the game!
Whether this means anything to you or not... I've been here a few years and don't use IO sets with bonuses and do absolutely wonderfully playing this game.

While it is all very cool to get involved in that aspect if you enjoy it, you absolutely do not have to at all.
One of the beauties of this game: It is there if that interests you... You can successfully do any content in the game without it.

I'd say you can successfully do 99.5% of the game's content without set bonuses. Some extreme edge things, like soloing AVs and Pylons, or soloing a high level TF, you are going to need some bonuses for. (Yes, doing that would be considered content, since it is something to do in the game)

The good part of that is that there is nothing that says you HAVE to do any of those things. Those are things the players do who want to push the boundary of what is possible, not things any random player is expected to do.

Personally, I enjoy challenging myself like that, and I know a number of other people who enjoy it as well. But I know just as many that find that stuff boring as hell.

Both the Panacea and Gladiators Armor procs definately are unique. For obvious reasons.

Thank you all for the replys. I had heard PVP sets were as expensive as purples, but I didn't know the Javelin sets were PVP. Is there a way on mids to know what is PVP, or did I just miss something way obvious? I'm not a pvp person at all. So there's no range set enhancements in PVE? Is Positron's set PVE or PVP?

I love this game, LOVE the character creator! I've created almost a dozen toons and these are my favorites:

Madre Nature - my main, Plants/Weather controller

The Crimson Monocle - Illusion/Weather controller

The Scarlet Sorcerer - Illusion/Radiation controller

Lady Sumac - Plants/Radiation Controller - Poison Ivy's more dangerous sister lol

Madam Cho - Katana/WP scrapper - she is tough and deadly

Prince Thorson - SS/WP brute

I really like the Plant, Illusion, Weather and Super Strength sets, though all my toons are still under level twenty.

Toons that seem very fragile to me are Capacitator, my electric/shield scrapper, he doesn't seem to do great dmg either so I am thinking of deleting him to make a Plant/Mental dom.

Hellspite, my spines/fire scrapper seems to do decent dmg but is fragile too, so that soloing he has to pull yellow mobs one at a time with his starter ranged temp power, rather than just wading into three of them as Madam Cho is able. I do like his fire aura dmg. and can't wait to have the spines aura with it!

Thank you for all the kind comments and that u can have good chrs w/o sets. I will try to post a build soon so I can get thoughts on its cost. I have about 20 mill inf from winning costume contests in Atlas, which seems like a lot to me starting out but I know is less than nothing in the IO set economy.

Any sets of powers or combos you just love? I looked at kinetics but it just seems not right for me.

The PvP sets should be distinguishable by their PvP-only set bonuses, but apparently those aren't showing up. The only other distinguishing factor within Mids' is that the PvP set show up after the purple set in the list.

Your other option is to look at Paragonwiki to know what all of the PvP sets are.

When Capacitator reaches level 37 and has both Lightening Rod and Shield Charge fully slotted, you're going to be stupefied by how much damage you are doing to clusters of bad guys.

Other than Pancea, I think all the PVP sets have "Gladiator" in their name. Definatly, if it has Gladiator in it's name it is an PvP set

Also, in Mids, the PvP Set is always the last one in the list for that category while the second to last is the Purple.

Thank you for your help stating the PVP sets are listed after the purple ones and also the names Panacea and Gladiator, I took all those out and substituted with Positron's and some Yellows. I tried to get a lot of recovery, some recharge, some extra dmg and some accuracy.

If I did it right this is my build. This isn't a question about powers, but more about if any of these IOs would be so high in price a new toon would never be able to afford them? Or also if any of the choices don't make any sense. Like I have one purple, the pet chance for build up.

I thought at first the tornado would have a chance for build-up all sixty times it did damage, but then I read it only checks every ten seconds, if that's true it hardly seems worth it. Also, does it build up the pet, or you, or both? Hopefully I did this right, it's short form fruit salad.

Right. Relying on only one source -- especially a source meant primarily for some other purpose than information, like Mid's -- is typically going to result in confusion and error.

This is the master list I use for most set IO questions I have. But if I am confused about something, it's good to look in-game, in the market interface, in Mid's, and ask around.

This is also a nice source when looking for specific bonuses (for example, "Category:Sets that improve Melee Defense").
