It really depends on the toon, what I think it can handle, and just how much I want a challenge.
On my Mace/Shield Brute (L42), I'm at +0/x2/Bosses. For some missions this is cake, like say a recent mission that was full of Longbow Spec Ops, or of Crey minions. I could probably handle more in that case. On the other hand, that's plenty of challenge against Arachnos, especially where every other spawn contains a boss.
My DB/WP scrapper was similar. Near the end I probably could have pushed x3 at least, and probably +1. But, I was soloing fast enough anyway, so there wasn't much of a reason to.
My NRG/Kin corr when I was leveling her, different story. I tended to keep the spawns smaller (yes, larger spawns would have been good for Fulcrum Shift, but with no defenses...) but I might up the difficulty +1. I introduced bosses late with her, but later turned them back off (Malta, Carnies, etc. just were just too much of a frustration with no mez protection).
Merc/Poison MM, I upped the difficulty and introduced bosses early. Much more suited to taking down tougher, smaller spawns.
One thing I do like about the new system - and something that I need to use more - is that you can make changes w/o having to spend influence. There may be times when I could roll along at +2 for some missions, but if I then have to take on Miss Liberty, or Madame of Mystery, or Requiem...no shame in scaling things down. The influence payment might not have really been significant (at least at higher levels), but it was still a bit of a mental deterrent for me. -
Oh sure - it would be a large undertaking, but it might be worth it to some to pin down. I don't know if A_F's number of 20k would suffice (don't feel like doing math...), but that's a pretty fair chunk.

Quote:My Gamestops have usually displayed one copy (or at least they did; last time I was in one of them I couldn't even *find* a PC shelf); I don't know if they restock if it sells, if they have more in the back or what. But two of the locations still had lone copies of GvE that had been marked down to 9.99 when Architect came out. I know they only had one because I bought it at both locations, after which they were shown as not having it in stock.Advertising/Marketting - This is needed. Last time I went to Game Stop there was no CoH product on the shelf. The closest thing was Champions Online (with a tag-line by the creators of City of Heroes - Bold move on their part and great for them since there is no CoH next to it on the shelf!)
We dreadfully need advertising and product fronting in game stores.
WoW was on the shelf. CoH should be on the shelf. -
I have days where I don't feel like playing as much as others, but I'm still quite happy with CoX and feel that there is plenty of stuff that I still can do that will be "new" to me. Getting toons of different ATs to 50 (still have Def, Widow, Spider, PB, WS, Brute to go). Making new toons with sets I haven't used before. Running TF that I haven't run before (which is actually most of them). Teaming more. Teaming with my son more. Running Croatoa or Striga again (been a while). Some days I'll miss because I'll be out of town or I'll have other things to do, and I figure an event or two will be sprinkled in. Then before I know it, GR will be here.
edit: forgot Stalkers. But then who doesn't. -
Using test to do mass amounts of rolls might be a good way of determining the weighted distribution for sets (never quite determined?), given a large enough sample.

Quote:That's unfortunate, but largely true. I have a level 47 Emp/Psi that is well down on my alt list (typically solo which she isn't built for), and my #1 priority is seeing that Fortitude is applied as often as it is up on whoever seems to need it the most.* Then I worry about Adrenalin Boost**, then the Auras (Recovery more than Regen, and I will pop these in battle finding spots when the team is naturally clustered; typically I'll be near the melee toons, but close enough to hit the ranged toons as well. If you're off doing your own thing, that's unfortunate and you probably don't need the buff anyway).Buff/debuff beats healing any day IMO. Yes, I know emps get some nice buffs, but the majority of the emp players I've run across tend to sit back and do nothing but play whack-a-mole with the team's HP bar.
Sorry about the tone of the message, but I've ended up on too many teams with a "pure" empath with no attacks, 2 travel powers and the full medicine pool. That seldom happens with any other set.
Past that, I'm attacking through the tank (and hey, my attacks do -Rech which lower incoming damage), keeping an eye on the team window for health and the chat for any "zzzzzzzz"s.
Healing Aura should be wayyyyyyyyy down the list at this point. The last TF I did (granted it was Citadel, so we were facing pansy Council) I think the only time I used it was to heal myself, when I was an idiot and attracted too much aggro.
*this is an argument in and of itself...often tanks can get by fine w/o it unless the going is particularly harsh, or these days if the tank was SK'd up a great deal and doesn't have a full compliment of defensive powers at their natural level. Quite often I'll apply it to Scrappers acting as tanks for the extra sturdiness and the damage buff. Sometimes I'll throw it on Khelds. Typically I *won't* apply it to Blasters, Defenders, Controllers unless they really seem to be getting themselves in trouble and seeing more aggro than they should.
** THIS however is good to slap on Blasters, especially ones that like to blow their end using their nukes. That and just making them kill things faster. Also good on Scrappers who burn through end or Tanks in extended battles to make sure their toggles don't drop. -
Quote:I wondered how fast you might be able to level making a Fire-based toon, start burning through Dark Astoria in the 20s, then when you start to level out of it take an Oro arc to set your level and continue mowing through BP hazard spawns. At least as a non-AE approach, though it would be out of those "xp-boosted" ranges.Semirandom thought:
With AE (as with ouroboros) you get to choose your level. At some point they upped levelling speed for 11-20 and 40-50 - and they did that not by lowering the XP per level, but by increasing the XP per badguy.
If you pick baddies that cap at 20 or 16 (do Skulls cap at 16 or am I misremembering?) you get to keep Stamina and stay in your happy kill zone.
If you pick the right IO's to frankenslot you don't lose much, if any, damage and acc in your happy kill zone. -
Quote:That would make no sense. How could NCSoft track them when they're using a different name each time they help someone?Quote:They don't do that. Anyone who has interacted with the same GM multiple times (which happens often enough for it to be SOP), or who read GM_Lloyd's articles in the City Scoop (especially if you've read GM_Lloyd's articles and had him answer a petition) should realize this.Quote:You are most definitely wrong. I have been helped by the same GM multiple times in a row. I'm absolutely sure that it was the same individual by how they acted. (very nice and helpful individual, although I forgot their name...it was a while ago)Quote:And for the sake of Praise or Complaints, much easier if they don't get a random name out of a list for each petitioner. Random/changing names would just add a layer of complexity that would cause issues more than anything.
(I've not come in contact with GM_Lloyd in-game nor have I read his articles, and I can't recall getting the same GM more than once) -

Quote:I recently completed an arc red-side - I want to say it was from Lt. Chalmers, but I can't remember for certain - that gave ~ 11,000 xp. This was around level 25, so this was a HUGE boost and dinged me when I wasn't even expecting it.2) There are arc completions that award large amounts of XP. Of course, those arcs are not conveyor belts of +2 bosses, but I remember getting close to a bubble of XP for finishing one of the Croatoa arcs. I don't think it's likely to be exploitable (I think it's either Skipper or Buck, so best case it's six missions and two are Defeat All) but with Ouro, it's one loophole I'd look at. (They closed the "Welcome to Vanguard" version of this but there may be more subtle ones.)
I can't even imagine reaching 50 in anything close to 35 hours. I feel like I'm getting progressively faster but still feel like anything under 200 is pretty good for me. Of course I waste a lot of time at the market or AFK making dinner or helping the wife and kids with things. Were I to attempt to level as quickly as possible though it likely would involve camping on a relatively easy mid-level arc via Oro, playing in bursts to utilize Patrol XP.
I wonder which Day Job would help best for this - Duelist (+Max End), Clubber (+Recovery, but "Out of Combat"), or Arachnos Agent/Law Enforcer (Mission Complete XP bonus). Clubber at least would be quick to get to and from, using the Pocket D porter each log out and the base teleporter/oro portal each login to get back to the pillar. -

Starting from scratch, I'd go for the GvE, which you can possibly find at GameStop/EB for 9.99 (depends on the store). I guess it's possible to find a better deal on Amazon/eBay, but yeah, be careful with the vendors...
AE still a deal for $20 though. -
I love my Night Widow (currently at 28), but the blue bar is definitely her rate-determining step. Sometimes I have to turn toggles off to sacrifice some green for a little more blue. I haven't considered her squishy at all though, in fact she seems pretty durable. Can slice through targets right quick, too.
I haven't fully planned out her build yet, but the Gift of the Ancients recommendation seems like a good one. I'll probably stick an extra slot in CJ to slot a second GoTA (happened upon the Def/+RunSpd, maybe a Def/End too). Maybe even slot a couple of the defense powers with two of those and two from Kismet, Poison Dart with Thunderstrike. Eradication might even be tempting for Eviscerate (+ Max End).
edit: ok, now I've played around in Mids a little and GOOD GRAVY, Widows can get silly with IOs... -
Here's my build. It probably doesn't have the pure damage capability that Harkness' does, but I soloed and never felt like it was that risky. Spent most of my time at range, though I did become more of a blapper after I picked up Fire Shield and Hot Feet. Bonfire IMO is underrated as a mitigation tool. Didn't PvP at all.

Quote:I actually like this from a replayability standpoint. I had different experiences playing my Ice/MM than I did my Fire/Fire. I'm looking forward to my AR/Dev being completely different from those two. There is simply no standardization to Blasters, such that the whole AT feels like a mish-mash of different ATs without any coherent structure to define their intent, abilities and framework. Some Blasters play a lot like Controllers, some play a lot like Defenders and some pretty much have to play like Scrappers. What Blaster plays like a Blaster, though, aside from Fire/Fire? How the hell does a "Blaster" even play?
-
Quote:Having soloed an Energy/Kin corr that made regular use of Air Sup, Sniper Blast, and knockback; and a Fire blaster that frequently opened with Blazing Bolt then Rain of Fire, I'm on-board with the "offensive powers as defense" idea.So when I'm perma-knocking a Rikti Magus in a mothership raid with air superiority, I'm not defending myself from his attacks, he's just being a good sport.
Actually I've found it interesting in the past that some of the folks that argued against the usefulness of snipes also bemoaned the frailty of Blasters. I always regarded my Fire blaster as being pretty safe. -
Seems to be up all the time on Champion...unfortunately I've never seen anyone actually fight him.

I just sent a request to support today on my second account (sent one on my first a month or so back). It sure does seem that something in the Vet Rewards system is wonky. Hopefully things get sorted out at some point, but until then hopefully the case-by-case fixes take and don't have to be repeated every three months.

Quote:I've been following this thread and kicked around the idea of joining in, but I think this is what I'd do too. I make enough alts that anything good I'd want to keep for one of them.I would do more harm than good if I joined this. I would put together the perfect level 33 build, sucking all of those recipes out of the market. And in the end, I doubt I'd put more than that back in. The team would have to do something like run both Sister Psyche and Citadel ten times to make up for what I would use.
Like yesterday - I rolled two 15-19 recipes on my Widow. First was a L15 Celerity +Stealth...which I promptly slotted. Second was a L15 Salvo quad, which I'm not sure anyone wants. -
I won't argue Merc/Storm vs Merc/Poison (love storm), but I wasn't disappointed at all with my Merc/Poison. I just had to make absolutely sure as much of the aggro was on me as possible. Steady diet of envenom/weaken/neurotoxic breath/provoke. That and positioning to make sure the Mercs were out of AoE range.

I've seen inconsistencies here as well. On my first account, they rolled along fine for the first 3.5 years or so - every Dec, Mar, Jun, Sep they'd be added in the first week like clockwork. Then they got all fouled up, and I noticed that when I should have been approaching the 54 month badge (early Dec 09) I hadn't yet received the *51* month badge. I sent something in to support and they fixed things, awarding me 51 and setting 54 to award in early December (which it was). I am curious to see if 57 is rewarded in March as it should, however.
My second account is a little screwy too. That one had been having the badges applied on the 21st every Jun/Sep/Dec/Mar. I had an odd billing occurrence this June though, as I used a code on the same day as billing - which resulted in the free month from the code (GvE) not being applied. I contacted support and they took care of it, but I think in the process my reward dates went a little haywire (that is, if they weren't already). The 24 and 27 badges show as being rewarded the same day (six months after the 21 month), then the 30 month reward was awarded just two months after that. But that was in August. I should be due for the 33 now, but I don't think it will award without contacting support again (vet time stuck at 2y7m, and paid time at 1y11m...even with three retail codes, that's a little off).
It almost seems like something happened throwing the system out-of-whack in early 2009.
edit: my first account shows a total paid time of 3y8m, and a vet time of 4y7m. Pretty big discrepancy considering I've only used two non-perk paid codes (and the Buddy code) and have been billed monthly otherwise.
