COH/COV or AE?? Which to purchase?

Hey, I want to purchase the game (just finished lvl 14 in free trial) and I was wondering is there any difference to which of the 2 I purchase? (besides the "freebies")

I see on the page to buy them there is COV/COH Good Vs Evil edition as well as the Architect Edition.

If I purchase the AE one, will I still be able to play the full game to level 50 and experience everything there is to offer content wise?? (missions, levels, boss fights, etc)

Thanks in advance for your replies.

yes what ever one you buy is the full game the only difference is they come with different perks I guess you could call them like costume items or mini powers they each have their own style.

Pick up the AE. CoH & CoV are now the same license, so you can play from lvl 1 - 50 on either red or blue side with the AE disk/ key.

Enjoy!

Edit: You can still get the GvE key to pick up the in-game perks with that edition as well. In fact, you can do that with any version for which you want the associated in-game perks (once per version per game account). Considering that each key also includes one month of subscription time, it's not a bad deal.

The only difference is in the freebies. If you hang around long term you may well want to purchase all three versions (GvE, Mac and AE). They each come with a month of game time so you're basically paying $5 for the freebies. And no, you don't need a mac to add the mac edition to your account.

In general I'd say the GvE version has the most useful freebies, the Pocket D teleporter is useful for getting around and the Jump Pack is handy for vertical movement both prior to getting a travel power and if you choose to take Super Speed. The costume pieces are nice but (IMHO) not great.

The AE version is probably the best value for money since you get a $10 super booster with it. If you could select the martial arts booster I'd say go with that for ninja run unfortunately you can only select Cyborg or Magic. Of those two I'd recommend the Magic one, it's got some very nice costume parts.

The Mac version is probably the least useful, the mission transporter power is nice but not great and opinions on the Valkyrie costume vary a lot. Personally I love certain parts of it (particularly the shoulder pads) but a lot of people hate it.

so another words, no matter which one I get I can use the architect missions? For me that is a huge selling point!!! (plus the freebies seem cool, especially the battle aura)

Yes. AE is as much a part of the game as Atlas Park (or Mercy Island.) You won't *not* be able to use it. Every edition has the exact same access to everything (this will probably change with GR and its zones and such, as it is an expansion.)

Exactly. The only license-specific content are the in-game items and whatever is specific to Going Rogue when it is released (such as the Praetoria zone and perhaps more things TBA soon™), since it will be an optional add-on.

guys another quick question, so i purchased the game and supposedly activated the account but for some reason it keeps asking me to pay for a subscription even though I am supposed to receive a free 1 month subscription with the order. Am i required to purchase additional game time before I can use the time given to me from the purchase?

nvm it seems i had to activate it by indeed purchasing game time.

No, but you have to have your payment system set up and rolling to start your new account. It can be counter-intuitive, at times.

Welcome, I can't wait to play with you!

Unless you used a time or game card you haven't actually purchased the time yet.

If you have not yet gotten the AE version, if/when you get it I recommend the Magic Pack over the Tech/Cyborg pack, as its power more useful more often.

If you haven't got the GvE version, the Pocket D teleport it grants and the jump jet power are both very useful.

Mac version is nice to pick up for the free month, the costume pieces, and the mission teleport. And it's not OS specific - it more of a "Our client works on Mac now!" celebratory edition

As was pointed out, if you get the "box" version over the perk-pack version of a box, it comes with a free month.

Also, if there is a Big Lots or similar place that sells new but clearance stuff you might be able to find an GvE box or older edition of CoV or CoH and add them to your account. Gives the free month still, and is usually 10 bucks or less.

Subscription is not like Rent. With Rent, you live there for a month, then you pay at the end of the month. With Subscription, you pay up front, then you're given a month of play time. With the free month, you're not charged now (starting from the day you activate) to play this month (30 days). The credit card for payment set up is so they can charge you for next month. You can always remove it if you decide to cancel.

Just to be nitpicky; reread your rental agreement. Most (if not all) apartment rental agreements are on a pay for the month on the first of the month (ie: the check you wrote on Jan 1 was the rent for January); at least in most cases and jurisdictions. Kudos if you pulled off the use it then pay method. It could happen. The rest of your description (vis a vis a CoX account) is sorta correct. I remember it as Apply the Game Code (from a Box), add a credit card (as proof that you are willing to pay); get the free month (from the Box); then decide if you want to remove the credit card if you dont wish to continue the game beyond the free month. Of course, things could have changed...

To the OP: If you have an EB Games in the local area (mall, etc.); they have had the GvE Edition with the aforementioned JumpJet Power and Pocket D VIP Porter for $9.99. If you cant get it for that, then I would indeed think the MA Box is the fiscally responsible way to go.

2 Inf just for you.

If you get the AE version, you will have fewer updates to download. If you get GvE version, the client will download all the updates from that version on, which will include AE. It will just take longer.

Welcome to the game.. and to the community. You will find that most of the players who post here are very helpful, and in game, most people will be helpful as well. If you are on Infinity server, look for Taxibots (they were yellow and black checkered costumes and have Taxi in their names.) They are quite willing to help if you ask.

Say what? I don't know where you're posting from, but that's not the standard in the U.S. Real-life rent is paid in advance.

However, if you are buying this via the NC Store and downloading from the link provided, it doesn't matter which version because they all link to the updater, which then downloads the whole game.

The above quote is only true for physical box copies of the game.

Speaking of which, I love how the "Used" part has comments from the sellers like:

"** SERIAL KEY & manual missing**! Included are the game DISC(S) with CASE and QUICK REFERENCE SHEET! This item is GUARANTEED to work as described! It is also GUARANTEED TO ARRIVE or we will replace for free! (all items insured through us for free!)"

"EXCELLENT CONDITION, PLAYED AND INSTALLED ONCE, STILL HAS ORGINAL BOX, BOOKLET, AND EVERYTHING IN THE BOX....EXCELLENT GAMEPLAY......."

So If I wanted the Magic Booster, and paying month to month, it would be cheaper to buy as an existing player to get the AE edition w/ magic pack with a month free, than the buying the magic pack outright for $10 and paying a month?

Yep.

That is correct. If the AE pack is selling for $20, then it's actually going to cost you -$5, as the $15 monthly fee and the $10 booster pack are both included.
