I know that what I have asked is kind of dependant on tastes, what I'm looking for is any particular synergy to be found, either with combinations of the powers or ATs.
I am looking at more than SO's for the builds, probably less than top end. I have some purples stored, I can get Villain Merits to handle some of the more expensive stuff, I have a few billion over all of my toons, much less than 5 billion.
I've really been wondering what to pair the Titan Weapons with. I've heard good things about Electric, Energy and Dark. Dark armor sounds like it could really be a beast on either a brute or a tank. TW/DA brute, or DA/TW tanker? Decisions, decisions... -
I have a number of lvl 50 toons, most of them brutes. I want to begin a new project, and it involves finding a combination of brute, scrapper, and tanker, using the powers I want, as efficiently as possible, with minimum overlap.
For example, I have targeted 11 offensive powersets and 8 defensive powersets. I want to put the defensive where they belong best, and then pair them with the offensive set that makes the most sense. I want to use all 8 defensive, I don't need to use all 11 offensive.
The offensive I'm interested in are Battle Axe/War Mace (one or the other), Broadsword, Claws, Dark Melee, Electrical Melee, Fiery Melee, Katana, Stone melee, Street Justice, Super Strength, and Titan Weapons.
The defensive are Dark Armor, Electric Armor, Energy Aura, Fiery Aura, Invulnerability, Shield Defense, Super Reflexes, and Willpower.
I want at least 1 tank, and I want him to be the tankiest tank that can be created from this possible mix of powers. When I play my tank I want him to be as sturdy a tank as there can be outside of Stone Armor. So I need to choose one of those powersets for the tank.
The rest it's pretty much putting resistance sets on brutes (especially those with damage auras) and defense sets on scrappers, and then picking the right offensive sets to pair with them.
Looking at my list, it seems that invul would be the best set for a tank. Shield defense is a contender, but putting AAO and Shield Charge on a scrapper is just too good for the damage. So if I go that route, what is the best mix of offensive sets?

I think your grant cover and phalanx fighting are overslotted. I left them at 1 slot, myself. I assume you have the active defense with two recharges to get it double stacking for the DDR. I didn't find that it made too much difference.
You don't have the force feedback chance for +recharge in footstomp. You're not really getting too much with that 6th slot in the ATO, so I'd change out one of them for that.
The 5 red fortune is kind of a high price to pay for 5% recharge. I went with 4 LotG for my toggles. You could replace one ToD set with Mako's if you want to even out your melee/ranged defense. If you're going to have one so much higher than the other, melee is definitely the one to have high, though.
Are you going with Ageless? I would predict some endurance issues if you don't. -

I've seen many threads on TW/ELA, and some other secondaries. I decided to try /EA since I have a few other /ELA toons.
Of course, I've never played either TW/ or /EA, so I'm not sure what to be going for exactly. I put a quick build together, I'm not thrilled with it, I'd like some feedback.
Not sure what type of attack chain to be going for either. How high should I try to get negative defense.
Should I take every TW power? Seems like I wouldn't really need overload. I don't see how to get energize perma, but I can get it within 3 seconds.
Should I put achille's heel chance for res debuff in both crushing blow and rend armor?
What should be my chain when momentum is up? Do I have enough recharge?
Looks like 2 clicks with the armor set, Energy Drain and Energize. Both powers, I probably shouldn't worry about the re-draw, right?
I just don't have a real good feel for this yet, so I would appreciate any feedback from /EA users, TW users, and especially any TW/EA users. Here's my crappy build. Thanks.

Lighting Field is a little underslotted IMO. My preferred slotting for damage auras is usually Multi-Strike: Dam/End and Acc/Dam/End, and the same pieces from Scirocco's Dervish.
Agility seems like a good alpha for this build. Spiritual might be slightly better overall, and would boost your Fault duration as an added bonus.
I would not want to drop Tremor, but Gloom and Darkest Night are awesome, and Dark Oblit is cool too.
A Kismet proc would be helpful; your accuracy is insufficient for fighting enemies at +3 or +4.
You might also consider splitting the ATO set 3 and 3, instead of all in one power, to get the S/L defense bonus twice. This can get you up to 10% S/L defense, if you catalyze them, which might let you change other slotting/power choices and retain your softcap. For example, you could drop Stone Fist or Stone Mallet for Gloom. Remember that you can mule Kinetic Combats in Brawl, too. The fury proc will probably do best in Heavy Mallet or Seismic Smash.
You've slotted Charged Armor oddly; I'm not sure if that was just a mistake in Mids, but you should use the 4 pieces of the set that boost resistance, not the end/rech.
I'd suggest maybe a Winter's Gift proc in that empty Super Jump slot; stacks nicely with the 40% you already have.
Spiritual will not get me to the softcap for s/l unless I change the build a bit.
I would love to get 3 and 3 of the Brute ATO, but I don't know what I would have to do to get 6 catalysts, that is my worry. My main brute that I play iTrials on has received 1. I don't have any others on any of my toons, 50 or otherwise, so that makes me wary.
Good catch on the Charged Armor. I chose the wrong piece.
I reworked the build a bit, took out tremor and added gloom and dark oblit. I switched to Spiritual, as I noticed agility wasn't getting me much defense. This does leave me at 43.2%. I could fix that by replacing Stone Fist with Tremor, and 3 slotting Tremor and Seismic Smash with catalyzed ATO, losing 7.5% from the KC's but adding 10% with ATO.
I'm just worried that it will take a loooong time to get the 6 catalysts.

I've had this guy at 50 for awhile now, but he is just too squishy until I kit him out. I used SM because I feel /ELA needs the added mitigation from fault. I'm trying to figure out where to put the brute ATO set, and to decide on powers.
As it stands right now, I would put the ATO in tremor, and I have a power slot and enhancement slot left.
Another idea I have is to drop tremor, take gloom and dark obliteration, replace a kinetic combat set with the ATO set, and try to get some more slots to 5 slot both gloom and dark oblit.
My questions:
1. What power would be best suited to host the ATO?
2. Should I keep Tremor, scrap it for Gloom/Dark Oblit or choose a 3rd option?
3. I'm currently looking at Agility for Alpha. Would I be better off with a different alpha?
4. What Destiny would be good for this? I don't think I need Ageless because energize is fairly close to perma and I have power sink. Don't know that I really need barrier because I should be at or above the S/L soft cap. Don't know the respective merits of the other destiny choices.
5. Any other feedback on the build? Those are the actual levels I will take the powers, just shoving them all in there at the moment.

I made a few tweaks to your ELA/DM build to get you to the S/L softcap.
I took a few slots from CJ, because it really doesn't need them. I took the res dmg IO from grounded because that wasn't really helping either. I changed char to ring of fire to get the 2.5% S/L def from enfeebled operation.
You were hitting rule of 5 on 1.25% Energy/Negative , and with capped energy resists, it seemed like you would be better off getting the 2.5% S/L def from mocking beratement. You also lose the 3.13% Energy/Negative from eradication, but it does get you to 45.2% S/L def. -
Thanks for the feedback. I made a few changes, got rid of the patron pool entirely, added in hasten, build-up, and power sink, changed some slotting around, and have something I like a little better. It is also a little (or a lot) cheaper because I got rid of all purples. Here's the new build. Any more feedback?

Hello Tankers! I am looking for tanker advice. My first tanker was a INV/SS in 2004 that I got to maybe level 25. When I came back to the game several years later I went red-side and brutes.
I have 4 level 50 brutes, a level 50 cor, and a level 50 MM.
I like my brutes, DM/WP, WM/SD, SS/FA, SM/ELA, and SS/SD(lvl 46), but I want something sturdier, hence I am looking at tankers.
I like the idea of Electric Armor on a tanker (when I feel it is squishy on a brute) because you can get the S/L res so high so easy. I like having only the toxic hole.
I put together a quick little build in Mids and I like some numbers I can hit. Great resistence numbers (85.5 S/L, 90 energy, 47.5 neg, 66.1 f/c, 59.8 psi) and softcapped defense to s/l (47.2 s/l, 26 e/n, 24.1 f/c, 21 psi)
Decent endurance numbers with cardiac and power sink recharging just under 22 sec.
Of course, I had to give up a lot to get there, which I'm ok with because toughness is my first objective with this proposed toon. I went with Fiery Melee because it seems to me that with those defensive numbers, I don't need much mitigation from my secondary, so I might as well go for damage. I like having the AoE from this build from Lightning Field, Combustion, Fire Sword Circle, and Dark Obliteration. There are plenty of ST attacks as well.
I'm also thinking that barrier would give me the remaining 5% I need to cap S/L res, so it looks to me like this toons only vulnerabilities would be lack of DDR and toxic.
Never having played Fiery Melee on any AT, and Electric Armor only on brutes, am I looking at the right sets for what I want?
Also, I would like to have build up and hasten. Power surge would be kind of interesting but I don't know that it would be needed on a build with soft capped s/l def AND res. Also, I put three purple sets in this build. It would be a pain in the *** for me to get them, but I can do it, given time. If there is a way to do without them, I wouldn't mind. I'm not sure that I really need Darkest Night for this build either.
So, can I get some feedback from the tanker community on my ideas and this build?

So obviously there are tons of ss/fa and tw/* threads going around. I thought I'd mix it up with this request on my ss/sd build. I have this guy to 30 and it's going really well. He's already at 32% melee and AoE and 40% range because I've gone in for lower levels of the sets. I have the 2 Mako's Bite sets, I have the Gaussian's set, I have all my LotG recharge, I have my Miracle unique and my Numina unique and the steadfast unique so endurance isn't even a problem, even this low.
At 31 I'm going to put my final two slots in Punch and have my full Touch of Death set as well to get my melee defense up to over 35%.
My question is, how does this overall build look? I'm planning on taking spiritual core paragon, which will make my hasten recharge at exactly 120 seconds, not counting the force feedback proc in footstomp.
I had been planning on taking the Destiny power that grants recovery, in case my endurance usage is not as good once I'm using foot stomp and dark obliteration and I have hasten running and maneuvers. If I don't need it, I would be able to take something else, but I don't know what.
This build pushes me close to 50 defense, but I plan on using lower level enhancements so I can exemplar well, so the total defense will be less, so I think I will still need maneuvers.
My questions are:
1) what could be done to improve this build, keeping in mind I want to use maximum level of 30 for most enhancementes?
2) is there a better power order I should take to be able to exemplar to 25 or 30 better?
3) what is a standard level I should be prepared to exemplar to? I play red side and participate in some of the lower level strike forces from time to time, but not the cap one too much. Normally it's the shark one where you fight sky raiders.
4) what level can the enhancements be to still work at the level decided on question 3?
5) what level powers will still be available? (4 above the exemplared level?)

Jawbreaker is a nice part of my ST attack chain. If you're happy with your ST attack chain, no worries. If you would like to improve it, I would drop assault for Jawbreaker, and try to get a few more slots freed up for it.

Which is a terrible thing to do; taking terrify or not taking terrify?
Thanks for the responses. That's a decent point about hibernate vs. hoarfrost. The problem with taking hoarfrost over hibernate is that it doesn't allow me to 6 slot ice storm and 3 slot ice armor.
Of course, perhaps I don't need to six-slot ice storm, and if I don't I can put another slot into stealth for a bit more defense.
Back to levitate vs terrify, I don't really NEED, levitate, I have enough ST blasts, so I could replace it with terrify and not really lose anything, and it would add some area control and damage.

Hello there, I normally play brutes and haven't got any doms higher than lvl 10. I decided to try this mind dom to try something new, and to lock down the freedom phalanx in the last LRSF mish.
I think it has a good mix of stuff but I'd appreciate any feedback because I've never used this stuff before. Also, does the spiritual incarnate slot increase domination recharge? Mid's doesn't show that it does.
I'm not sure what attack chain to use for this guy at end game. Obviously fire blast and blaze are good ones, but mesmerize, dominate, and levitate all do more damage than flares, plus they come with mitigation, so it seems like I might not need flares.
Anyway, the build gives me good recharge, and 30 some defense to S/L, E/N, and ranged, so I think he'll be pretty survivable.

My first 50 brute was dm/wp. He was really good. Until I played WM/SD and SS/FA. Now I almost never play him, primarily due to lack of AoE. He is more survivable than the other two, but I just hate that lack of AoE.

I have a lvl 50 WM/SD brute. He's a lot of fun. I took every WM power except bash and taunt, and there are times I wish I had taunt.
I use Pulverize, Jawbreaker, and Clobber as my ST attack chain, and Whirling Mace, Shatter, and Crowd Control as my AoE attack chain.
Shatter does .67 KB, which equates to Knock down, just like crowd control. This is good mitigation, and does not fling the mobs away from you.
I took every power in /SD, leaping pool, fighting pool, hasten, and aid self. Before I got T4 Destiny (Ageless), I had Superior Conditioning and Physical Perfection from Energy Mastery because I needed it. After I got Ageless, I was able to respec into Aid Self. I don't really need it too much.
I also went with spiritual core alpha slot. My shield charge recharges in 26 seconds, same as build up, which makes for a nice synergy.
My positionals (without the PvP +def IO) are 44.4/46.3/45.3 Melee/ranged/AoE. He's pretty good, I have a lot of fun with him.

You are right, I had forgotten about fury. But don't scrappers also get a chance to crit? I'm not sure how much extra damage you should factor it for that. Here's a chart with 70%fury for the brute damage. Does anyone know why Follow Up is such a longer animation time on a brute?

So it seems like brutes pay an endurance cost and recharge cost for the higher damage. If paired with something like /SR, it seems like I should focus on recharge to make up for it, after I get soft cap. Does that sound right?

I have seen some people on this forum talking about how much better claws is on brutes than it is on scrappers. I took it to Mids, and I really have no idea where that is coming from. Comparing the powers directly, scrappers do more damage, take less endurance, recharge faster, and in some cases animate faster.
The only pro for brute claws that I could find was that more attacks do defense debuff, but I really don't care about defense debuff because I will not have issues hitting anyone.
So can someone try to explain why the perception is there that brute claws are better than scrapper claws? Especially when paired with something like /SR where the lower scrapper resistance hard cap doesn't come into play?

So let me ask another question. How many Achilles Heel chance for debuff should I put in each build? Should I only put it in AoE powers?
Should I go with Mako Patron Pool for the extra AoE for everyone?
Will I need extra stealth IO's in the builds? -
So we have a family foursome, three soldiers and one widow. We only play these toons when all four of us are playing. We are only lvl 18 right now, but things are going pretty well.
My wife wants the fortunata path. I'm going for huntsman/bane. My older son wants crab and my younger son wants melee bane.
I have played mostly brutes, so has my wife. I'm not real sure what to be going for. I know that as long as we're in range of each other, once we get IO's, we will all be softcapped.
Both my boys want pets, I'm not interested in pets. I'm trying to make my huntsman soloable, it is not necessary for the boys toons to be soloable.
I'd like some feed back on my intial builds here, as I have so little VEAT experience.

Thanks for all the feedback. I feel I have a much better understanding of how this is going to work now. My wife has agreed to run hasten so that will help.
There have been many suggestions, in both this thread and the other, for me to run with mind/thermal or something else like /kin. I ended up sticking with the mind/sonic. I already have a lvl 50 ice/thermal corruptor and I didn't want to revisit that. If we take a lot of hurt from /psi, which I don't think we should because they will still be nearly soft capped to positional, they do have healing flames and green inspirations, and we'll have control for the mobs doing the psi damage so I think we'll be all right.
We are at lvl 11 right now. I'm looking forward to spending some more time on these guys.Here's a build that has done pretty well for me. I don't have a PvP +def IO to put in strength of will, but if I did it would soft cap S/L defense, and come close to your other numbers, depending on how you define close.

Greetings!
I recently asked for help with my mind/sonic and was quite pleased with the results. I'm hoping for the same here because I'm even more clueless for this build.
To set the stage, the 'troller will be part of my family foursome. My children will be playing ss/fa brutes. I'll be playing a mind/sonic 'troller. My wife will be playing this plant/cold 'troller. The idea is the buffs from the two 'trollers will take my kids brutes to defense soft cap and near resistence hard cap, making them nigh unkillable.
So, this toon is meant to only be played with the family foursome. Her primary responsibilities are 1) buff the brutes 2) not die 3) control.
Buffing the brutes is easy. Two shields every 4 minutes and keep maneuvers and arctic fog on. Not dieing should be fairly easy. The brutes will be taking as much aggro as they can. I'm not sure if stealth/invis is the way to go.
Here are some contraints. Maneuvers and arctic fog are required. She only wants fly as a travel power. She is only a few days away from the vet reward of travel powers at lvl 6, so we can go that way if needed. She doesn't like hasten. She does enjoy the patron power pool pets, but that is not required. We will be playing red-side. She can count on the benefits of my /sonic buffs, but that's about it. We have a fair amount to spend, and we can do tips on mulitple toons for pricey IO's, but I'm not looking for any purples or PvP IO's. Unless the purples are (relatively) cheap ones, like sleep/confuse/hold.
I really don't have much of an idea on which way to go with her. I'll post a skeleton build I came up with, but it's not much. I'd love to hear some ideas on which way I should go, what would work well with our setup, should we go for defense/invis (through a proc and stealth or whatever, not invis the power), or recharge or what?

I'm planning on going spiritual alpha, which would make hasten perma.Wow, even more responses.
Melencholia, thanks for the idea that sonic siphon is overslotted. I moved a slot to liquefy. But as Steele said, with my wife's /cold buffs, I won't need the extra ranged defense.
Steele, the reason we're playing the /sonic and /cold is to make the boy's brutes just as tough as possible. /fa already has one of the best heals in the game with healing flames. They already have an endurance recovery tool with consume. They have +to hit and +damage with rage.
/fa's weakness is being kind of squishy. If I give them some decent IO's they can have in the neighborhood of 22/17/23 defense for Melee/Ranged/AoE and 50/50/31/31/90/21/15/9 res to S/L/E/N/F/C/T/P.
The /cold (with my maneuvers too) can soft cap their positional defense. I'll add 36 to all res except psi, the ice shields can give another 22 to cold, frostworks gives 15 to toxic, and the fog will give 18 to cold and energy, for final res totals of 86/86/85/67/90/90/66/9.
I don't what will hurt something is soft capped to positional defense and nearly hardcapped to smashing/lethal, fire/cold, and energy, and 66 res to negative and toxic. Plus, those shields are on four minute timers. I like that we will only have to apply that often. Doing every 60 seconds or 90 seconds gets old.
And Selina, you are right, I put in 12 points of KB because I'm used to playing melee. In my final build here I went down to just 4 points.
