  1. Hey, Doc. See you finally got out of the bottom of that trench...
  2. Chat chans are also dropping intermittently, and we're getting the character replacement glitch again, as well.
  3. I want a pony. With frickin' lazer beams.

But I'd settle for some new devinfo.
  4. Individual channels are working intermittently, but global lists are dead. in addition, we haz new text error!

The chatsystem has taken to off-and-on replacing the string 'nd' with random letters. For example, jsut recently typing the sequence 'band bandage bandaid'r esulted in:

    baar baarage baaraid

    Sweet, huh?

I think that when the trading places mechanics will be based on xp earned during "typed" missions. Currently, in the game missions are either labeled as "hero", "villan", or not meaning neutral.

When playing a character in Praetoria you earn in essence 3 different types of experience, Heroic, Villainous or Neutral. When you have earned enough of the one type to make the next level you can choose to train for that type. For example, a tank in Praetoria runs nothing but villainous missions and earns enough "red" bars to make level. He can go to a villanous trainer and train as a villain.

They can either make it so that there are three running totals A red xp bar and a blue xp bar as well as the neutral xp bar or a tug -of- war type like the PVP Zones.
I suspect, as someone else pointed out later, that it will be far closer to the second idea. For one thing, the data handling would be simpler, I imagine. For another XP is XP- whoEVER you're fighting, you're growing in experience and strength. You're becoming a more powerful character, not villain/hero/neutral.

I anticipate a single sliding scale that keeps track of hero and villain 'points' for lack of a better term, with neutrals perhaps counting to move you back towards the center but not beyond it in either direction.

It would be nice if your position on this scale determines what contacts are available to you, but obviously i have no idea if that's possible in the system the devs have envisioned and built.

I HOPE it's something like this, at least, not a single, simple branching path, where switching alignment becomes sort like flicking a...well, you know...switch.

That MIGHT be because the servers are scheduled to be down for another 40'...
  9. Either run in windowed mode (which kinda sucks) Or add -compatiblecursors 1 to the end of your shortcut.

Be aware that this fix does not always work. I've had to run in windowed mode on my lappy from day one.

Its just sad.
My experience has been that they are pretty regularly back up well before the 2-hour window has expired. Not /always/, but with fair regularity

I'm out of town and have had limited access for the last few weeks, so it's possible that's changed recently.
  11. Monday and Friday mornings have ALWAYS been server maint times, from 9-ca 11 Am Eastern. That's well-known to the community, and expected. And they announce in-game that the servers are going down, starting 1/2 an hour before. *And* somewhere in the mess of forums there is, in fact, a statement of regular maintainence times.

    So calm down.

That said, the fact that the server status page does not reflect reality IS pretty annoying.

    No. They're down.

    Again.

So, could someone tell me what is the best item to use as a floor? What can you use that you cannot see through from the bottom??

If you want a more sewery or castle feel, you can also use the various sizes of stone blocks from the arcane set. The ones *named* x stone block only- the ornamented tables, altars and things have no bottom texture. ATM there is nothing really 'metallic' that has a bottom texture, AFAIK.

Which is a right pain when you're doing decorative work...

Oh for God's sake. I served in the Marine Corps as an AAV crew chief (1833) and small wpns repairman for 8 years, and I could give a crap less what someone calls me. Former Marine, Ex-Marine, old jarhead, defender of our freedoms, that old cranky guy; none of it matters. Usually the people that repeat this old bit of fiction were never in the military and are attempting to gain some sort of celebrity-by-assocation, IMO. Either that or they have a stick up their a** that the First Sergeant needs to remove.

You, friend, have made my day, which was otherwise shaping up to be a pile of suck.
  18. This can be avoided by running in windowed mode, though that CAN make your screen res a bit odd. There's also a -compatiblecursors1 switch you can add to your shortcut, but for me I find it crashes the game under Vista. So I'm stuck with window mode.

Even that would be an improvement over 'kick-kick-kick-kick...oyah COBRA! - kick-kick...brawl.'

  20. KK...this is not EXACTLY what I remembered, which might be my bad, but this is from a different transcript, and is missing some stuff I seem to remember being there.

04-28-2009 18:33:34 [Local] Positron: Demon Summoning? Dual Pistols?

But please note that the question was asked and answered in the context of PROLIFERATION, IN FUTURE ISSUES, not in paid expansions.

As I said before- an implication, perhaps unintentional, and thus dangerous to argue from.

I'll keep trying to find the rest of the post- maybe I'm going mad.

It was also a dev who strongly implied (in the European fora) that DP/Demon summoning would be in I16, and NOT in a paid expansion.

On the road, can't find it right now. About...gah 2 months ago? In an interview, question was asked about possible new powersets. DP and DS were mentioned. Little further down, question was asked about possible sets *in I16*. Response was 'didn't I just mention DP and DS.'

I'll try to find it when I hit my next hotel.

Um...no. I for one don't care if I EVER have to run the lowb blueside content again. Frankly, sprinting through red zones and 'go talk to someone in the Hollows...because we want to show it off' have long since passed the level of boring, and entered the realm of ZOMGnotagain.

There IS the sewer team option of course- ie, turning an MMORP into essentially an MMO3PS. Go hunt. Mow down mobs. Rinse and repeat. *YAWN*

Even though 99.6% of everything on the MA system at the moment is utter worthless crap, the other minute amount of content is enough to make blueside playable again for me at low levels and, I suspect, for many other folks.

I just wish they'd put the REDSIDE Mercy one in a more-accessible spot. But of course, the devs hate redside
