I was reading up the Wikipedia entry on Cap because of the above reference which said the shield was steel/vibranium rather than admantium/vibranium (which I had read back in the day). Apparently the steel/vibranium is cannon these days (comics are always in flux).

There was one particularly ridiculous stat in there. After explaining that Cap is the peak of human performance, they state that he can bench press (yes, not deadlift) 1200 lbs. Umm, yeah. Peak of human performance. Right.
  2. While there are times I would like a car that drives itself, I would also miss the joy of taking a car with good handling on a windy mountain road.

I rather fear that once this tech is perfected people will not be permitted to actually drive a car for safety reasons.

Oddly enough the most likely thing to prevent the adoption of automated cars will be liability issues.

I don't particularly wish to denigrate a movie I like (Serenity), but please. You are blowing it up to be far more than it was. It was a decent film. It did have a message, but deep? Let's be real here. I've seen it plenty of times. I quite like it, but 'requires you to engage higher thought processes'? I mean, oh what did someone mention earlier - if you're the family pet.

And I would certainly put Serenity in the top 10 of Science Fiction movies of all time scale. Which is more impressive when you remember that there are far more science fiction movies in existence than there are Superhero movies. You would be pushed to compile a "top ten" of superhero movies and actually have 10 good movies in it.
Serenity has too many flaws to even nudge the top 10 of science fiction.

Now I will admit that the superhero genre is much smaller, but then I think a case could be made that Avengers is one of the better action films out there for that matter. It really was a great movie in an absolute sense.
  4. I get the impression that the super soldier serum was ramped up some in the movie actually. There was a part in Captain America (the movie of course) which seemed to imply that he got something of a healing factor.

*Checks* Yep. An O3 with 26+ years in pulls a WHOPPING $6136/month in 2012.

Well irrelevant of his salary, if he bought war bonds 60+ years ago, the miracle of compound interest alone would make him well off.
  6. I do find it funny that there are people who claim that Serenity is a better movie than Avengers. I own Serenity. I went to a pre-screening before it was released. I also saw it in the theater.

It isn't even in the ballpark of Avengers. Sorry, but there's just no way. Only a rabid browncoat could believe otherwise.

Avengers may well be the best superhero movie of all time (it's certainly in the running). Serenity doesn't happen to be close to the top Science Fiction movies of all time.

He didn't tip him. It was a bet. You have to pay more attention during the gym sequence.

    Afterburner?

If I opt for flight as my travel power, I always take afterburner. The exposure to it makes flying without it unpleasant since it is so much slower.

Truth be told afterburner has lead to many more of my alts using super jump simply because if I can't fit in afterburner, I don't have any interest in fly anymore.
  9. I'd probably pick it up were it available.

Though I don't know that I'd say it was 5 mostly great seasons. Seasons 2-4 were quite good. Season 1 had some pretty serious issues, and Season 5 was close to incoherent.

I'd go with 3 great seasons and leave it at that.

I agree on Crusade and the TV movies.

Top chains plan around that, only attacking once per ~7s out of momentum save for the eventual miss, and good builds can attain devastating ST damage as well as stellar AoE output. At the high end of the performance spectrum, few other melee powersets can compete with TW in either of these categories, and none in both. It's not like it's bad while leveling either, as you get a cone Divine Avalanche as your level 1 power.

For that matter, even without Momentum TW would probably be a great set - average looking in subpar analysis ignoring radius, but great in actual gameplay for that very reason.
While I do have a couple of TW characters, I have none anywhere close to be twinked out yet. I only kinda really grok how to maximize with momentum, so I am likely missing something. I did just hop over to the pylon thread to see what TW could do, and it does appear I'm wrong. The twinked builds really do some sick DPS. Of course I didn't see how much recharge was required for those. I have to imagine it was plenty high.
  11. I find it interesting how many people say the set is overpowered. I really don't agree. Yes, in Momentum, it's extremely powerful. However you can't be in momentum all the time.

Build Momentum is a 10 second duration power with a 90 second recharge. At the recharge cap it can be up for 10 seconds and down for 8. Of course I don't really know that a player can get to that kind of recharge without outside buffs (maybe with a proc, but that's a short duration thing). Even if they did the sacrifice in focusing solely on recharge will have its own costs.

A more realistic amount of recharge is around +200 global (and that sure doesn't come cheap). With that you can have the power at 10 seconds up, 12 seconds down. Now granted, you can spend the downtime hopping spawn to spawn in ideal conditions, but if you're focused on a hard target, you're going to have breaks in momentum, and obviously the set is by no means overpowered outside of momentum.

Maybe I don't know the twinking of the set well enough to get how to break the game with it, but I think that while it is a high end set, broken is overstating the case. I actually find war mace to be somewhat comparable without the off and on gimmicky nature.
  12. I remain in the 'meh' category on this one. IMO the reboot in too soon. I don't know that I'll bother seeing it in a theater.

I'd be amazed if anyone in the general public complains about it, tbh.
Last I had heard the term was in the late 80s. Eddie Murphy used to use it in his stand up routines. He was pretty renowned for being quite foul mouthed (and funny).

Haven't really heard it anywhere else.
  14. I almost walked out of the original Van Helsing I thought it was so awful. I can't really imagine a new one will perk my interest.
  15. Here's a random question - has the success of the Marvel movies done anything for their comic sales? I don't really follow comics much anymore.
  16. Got a WM/EA scrapper that does pretty crazy damage. The AOE potential of the set is quite impressive. It isn't too bad single target with with clobber hitting so hard. Ever since they buffed up WM nicely a bunch of issues back, I've been fairly taken with the set, though I only have 2 50s with it. I should work up a tanker as well. (WM/WP brute, and WM/EA scrapper).

Hell I got too bored trying to finish one run on my kinetic melee stalker and gave up. I was around 1/2 down or so.

I give kudos with those capable to taking the tedium for the sake of knowledge.
  18. Personally I'm a bit disappointed that they did the fast forward. I was liking where the team and story was at the end of the first season. I would have liked to see that develop.

However it still looks good enough to watch. My DVR didn't catch this so I ended up having to find a place to watch it online. I better get to fiddling with the DVR so I don't miss anymore.
  19. Count me as a solid 'no' The mentioned bugs and such don't bother me enough to forgo new content.

Actually they did give a reason for why the Soviets invade in Red Dawn. At the start, there's a bunch of news blurbs which describe a series of failed grain harvests in the Soviet Union. Their economy was apparently in dire straights and they needed the invasion to distract the people and steal resources.

I can't very well imagine anyone saying that controllers needed a buff. It would be preposterous.

    Star Wars Kinect

Honestly don't see why anyone would care much.

I think Lucas trashed the franchise with the new trilogy, so I pay no attention whatsoever to anything Star Wars(which begs the question of why I opened this thread, but I was bored I suppose). However, I also don't pay much attention to what is put out. If people like it, they buy it. If they don't they don't. I won't be buying it, so I don't have to care.

If you think it is awful, don't buy it. That ends all the interaction you should care about. The existence of said product will have no impact on you at all (or on me either).

Heck, even back when you could stack up mobs and single shot the lot with a singe target attack on a tanker, ET didn't help because you'd kill yourself.

EM has never been a farming set. Whirling Hands is just too shoddy (well you could TF those stacks which was common, but this was really only a trick used on burn tankers pre- i4).

I've got a couple alts at 50 with EM. They are both banished from my main server. I don't even recall where I put them. I've no interest in the set anymore.

To put it simply if a set is going to give up AOE for single target, it better wow me in single target, because AOEs are a heck of a lot more useful in general.

EM used to wow people in single target. Now it's just fair to middling. That doesn't hack it. Hence the dearth of people bothering with it.
