  1. PM coming for you Titano about a related idea for early next year.
  2. It'd be a little in December, but really picking up with 2008. Still interested?
  3. Tssssch.

The television screen briefly flashed with static before a small clockwork, wearing a tuxedo, appeared.

"Good morning heroes of Paragon City and villains of the Rogue Isles. I am the Converted Clock. Do not worry, though, unlike my misled brethren I mean you no harm as most of my plans are for the betterment of our communities."

From somewhere near the back of the bar - "Oh great, another public servic message..."

"Shuddup! I think it's kinda cute. I wanna hear what it has to say" the elf with the large assault rifle shouted back.

"For the past three years my talents have been employed to organize a series of Olympic competitions in the dimension that I come from. This year, it has been decided to expand these games across the similar dimensions. I apologize for this temporary commandearing of your airwaves, but I am seeking some assistance with promoting and coordinating these Olympic competitions."

The small clockwork paused briefly before continuing, "There have been a number of changes since the last series of competitions, so in addition to looking for local contacts to help bring our efforts to the various dimensions, the team that I work with is also seeking creative minds to design competitions that will be balanced across the various dimensions that we wish to bring the Olympics to and to tell the stories of the competitors and their triumphs. Thank you for your time. I will be in touch."

    Tssssch.

The television screen briefly flashed with static again before the small clockwork reappeared.

"I do have one favor to ask of you, completely irrelevant to my mission here. If you see that impostor that calls itself the Clockwork King, please Tesla cage it for me."

Hi all. I just wanted to briefly introduce myself. I've been running an Olympics on the Champion server for the past three years now. After our last one concluded, I assembled a small team of people that had participated in the events and discussed with them the plausibility of expanding our Olympic games to the other servers. Well, to make a long story short, we've done a bit of planning on how to expand and adapt our Olympics to be able to be hosted on multiple servers in 2008, but there's still a long ways to go. We'd like to develop new events, of course, to keep the Olympics fresh and to also make it a bit friendlier to host across multiple servers simultaneously. Hosting it on Champion is one thing, as well as helping someone else host it on another server, but its a monumental increase in work to bring it to all of the servers. My team and I think its possible, and we're all willing to put in the work to see it happen correctly, but we can always use more help - and that's where you come in.

Specifically, we're looking for help with writing some articles for the Olympics. These could range from sports news type updates of an event, to editorials on the design or training for an event, to fiction inspired by one of the events or competitions. So, if you're interested please let me know.

I would say follow the link in my signature for more information, but, unfortunately, the w00tradio server change over lost our old web page. To give you an idea of what the past Olympics have been like, we've typically had several hundred contestants attending our events. The last Olympics was about 25 events in all when you factor in the various weight classes, and it spanned 4 weeks (so it sounds like a lot, but it was maneagable by just a handful of people). Some of the events were standard pvp tournaments or races to complete task forces. Other events were testing your survivability against particularly cruel missions (my favorite was a little cozy place known as the Death Box...2 villains go into a one room mission set for a team of 8 on relentless, complete with an EB) or AVs (we've enjoyed the company of Psi Babbage, Mother Mayhem, and many more to say the least), and others still involved badge collection, relay races, and scavenger hunts. So...there's a good mix of pvp, pve, and badge-ing involved.

Anyways, back to your normally scheduled programming. Thanks for listening.

  4. Good morning all,

I just wanted to briefly introduce myself. I've been running an Olympics on the Champion server for the past three years now. My team and I think its possible, and we're all willing to put in the work to see it happen correctly, but we can always use more help - and that's where you come in. If you would like to work with us on planning and hosting the next Olympics, please feel free to contact me or my lovely cohost Genna.

More specifically, we'd like to make this event as polished as possible, so we're looking for some talented people that'd like to help us with artwork...both in terms of promotional and rewards (such as a winner of a certain event might receive artwork of their triumph). If you'd like more information as to what we're thinking, or if we've piqued your curiosity, please feel free to reply to us.

Jay Doherty: Yes, there was this one night that I was ready to go home but had to drop the browns off at the super bowl before I left for home. While on the throne it hit me. I stayed for a few more hours and that why we have the pain pads in the game.

The pain pads just took on a whole nother meaning...

Ummm...I appreciate the sticky...but uhh...I dont think it needs it own thread...Maybe put this in the important links thread with the others??

    Up to you guys..

    [/ QUOTE ]

+1 vote for putting a link in the important links thread. There're too many stickies at the top, esp. with "How to get to the test server" now at the top of every sub forum...

Of course, we want to give people a way to get that same "stuff" via different methods if you have already done that arc. This is exactly what the good Doctor refers to in his post. The team is looking at that. We certainly appreciate your input on the subject.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If that's possible, then that'd be satisfactory. Thanks for listening.

AI critters have always 'cut and run' if they consider themselves unable to win an encounter. The behavior you describe is consistent with that condition.

It is not impossible that the AI is flipping to 'run away' mode too easily for some reason. Reading Aett_Thorns post, it does not sound like this is the case, but if you can get some solid data to back it up it'd definitely be worth looking into.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I've been noticing this a lot more...well, I haven't played since before Thanksgiving, but it was definitely more prevalent back then than I remember it being several months ago. While this may be working as intended...it is no fun at all to have to chase down every single mob because they all run once you start laying into them.

Costume changes come with a minimal cost that no one really complains about, but we complain about the costs of bases. Evidently, the costs exceed the perceived value of creating one's own HQ (btw, I confess that many other games have the notion of personal property, but aside from Second Life, I don't think they offer as much customizability as our bases).

    [/ QUOTE ]

But we complain about the costs of the bases...

    Lets see...the costs of costumes:
The influence you earn playing from lvl 1 to 30 is more than enough to cover any costume pieces that you could dream of. So, by lvl 30 you can have access to *all* costume features, and the charge is a one time cost.

    The costs of bases:
10 people playing from lvl 1 to 50 in SG mode may make 5 million prestige (but nowhere near enough influence to cover the costs of your enhancements). What will this buy? well, for starters you will at best be able to make a functional base. You won't have anywhere near enough prestige to upgrade your plot more than once, to have the higher end components, etc. AND, not only is it a large upfront cost, but we have to pay rent on it as well. Let me get this straight...not only do we have to *purchase* our plots, but we have to pay rent on them too?

Don't get me wrong, I think the prices to *purchase* items in bases, while high, is okay for a larger group. If I was in a small SG that didn't have many players, or had many players that needed the inf, the costs of fully furnishing a completely functional base would be rather difficult.

It occurred to me that all my previous pictures broke so here's the latest picture of me and my squishie.

    aw, the description was adorable.
  12. Just reread the first half dozen pages of this thread...

so many old names that I haven't seen in ages...but they're still showing up as names on the boards so that means something at least...right?

Well, it was a nice stroll down memory lane, I should get back to work now I suppose.
  13. Just as an addendum to my previous post...Lightning Clap...please change it from knockback to knockdown...I think the reasons why have been flushed out pretty well by others.
  14. I've spent the last few weeks grinding up an electric melee brute, so I thought I'd chime in with my thoughts.

Overall I'm happy with the set with 1 very big exception...

Chain Induction just doesn't do it for me. The damage isn't very good at all, it very rarely jumps, and when it does we get less xp. My suggestion for fixing this would be either to make it a long, narrow cone (think along the lines of fire breath) with the same damage it has currently, or, preferably, make it a pbaoe like short circuit, but with a smaller range, the same damage it has now, and far less end drain. The only thing I like about this power is its animation...which could work still if the power was changed to a long narrow cone (which would get rid of the random jumping and the xp problem).

Fix this power and I'd be happy with this set despite its other short-comings. I wouldn't mind, though, if Jacob's Ladder had its cone width increased though to match the animation.
  15. [ QUOTE ]

I hate to burst everyone's bubble here - but I7 is not going up before the end of May. We have a few more things left to fix/tweak.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Honestly, I'd rather them take longer and get us something that's relatively bug free than rush it and make us suffer through the debugging on live as has happened a few times in the past. So, devs, please take your time and get it right. I'm patient and I can wait.
  16. [ QUOTE ]

And it sounds like the FC group wants maybe a cage they can have eletricity going through or barbed wire on while players are beating up each other in the middle....or a map with a specific building or hill that they can play king of the hill on.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Oooooh, maybe we could get our own Monkey Fight Club (like in Sharkshead) for heroes and villains to play in.

Ok, this is the first and last post I will contribute to this thread. buh-bye.
  17. Not so much an item I'd like to see...more of a change to an existing item.

The arcane telepads are just a hair bigger than a grid square. This makes placing them a pain in the rear. Could they be made a hair smaller so they fit on just one grid square like the tech telepads do?

This is an important issue to many of us in the community. Not having this post stickied will let those that need it most not be able to find it.

Well....some of the badges are now fixed and others are bugged.

I just bagged over 100 Fortunata's through missions in BB. No Gladiator

friend didn't have spider smasher, no badge after 20 missions

    [/ QUOTE ]

Was this for a villain or hero?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Coincidentally, or strangely, enough...both me and my team mates earned this badge at the exact same time last night while in an Arachnos mission in Nerva right after we killed a Fortunata in there.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
Yep - this is the AI change to "fix" herding...

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I'm sorry...but [censored]?

AI change to fix herding: don't have them all stack on top of each other...i.e. fix clipping. Not this half [censored] cop out that's that's...I'm very angry, let me compose myself...

Ok, let me try this again...

I posted a link to this thread on champion forums in order to help educate people about this. Honestly, with all the changes to powers and the ED thing that just hit, I was a bit annoyed, but I was going to be a good sport about it and try it out. But this...this...this is that one additional punch below the belt after you think its all done.

I'm sorry, but I honestly enjoyed herding. And no, I don't mean herding to PL ppl, I mean as in efficiently aggroing mobs to make a kill all mission go faster. Once I aggro'd and grouped the mobs all together, my job was to keep aggro while my team dealt with killing, buffing, and controlling the mob.

Honestly, there's nothing we can say to change your mind. And sure, this doesn't fall under tweaking the powers, so this major nerf to hero effectiveness is something else you're getting away with based on semantics.

I kept on saying that surely this change is the last one, the game should be balanced now and we shouldn't have to worry about anything else.

And, without fail, you keep managing to introduce a new change even worse (for my fun at least) than the one before. It's just blow after blow below the belt.

Both of my housemates canceled their subscriptions this week. I'm going to sleep on it, check out the new content in CoV (since I do like content and I'm stuck with my preorder), and move on since I DO NOT trust you at all. I've no clue what's next for you to [censored] with. Make it so that any hero can not possibly handle more than 3 minions, 1 minion and a lt, or 3/4 of a boss at a time?

    Newsflash.

The game before lvl 20 is not fun for most people. The game above 20 that was so incredibly unbalanced in your distorted view of things is what people enjoyed. Or at least me and my friends. I can't speak for everyone since apparently you've got a few sycophants left that are beaming about this stealth nerf. And I'm sorry that that's going to offend people. I'm in a bad mood and was looking forward to a stress release in game tonight when I found out about this.

  22. Obviously the concept of sucking up one's own personal preferences for the greater good of a common goal is beyond some people, much less how color coding could actually be useful.

The raid uniform was a great idea. It was one of the many novel inventions that led champion into its glory days of raiding. Now, much like the raid uniform, those times are behind us.
  23. Um...yeah...where's the love to Ice Armor? They need love as much as SR.

    [ QUOTE ]
Oh and if you have been testing this since march, why didn't you include this in your original post there bucko?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Because as mentioned before, the post we got was originally intended for City of Villains *only*. CuppaJo cut and pasted that here so we could get a heads up. That does not automatically mean that Positron didn't plan to mention this in his post here if/when he made one.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Funny that you say that because I'm sure there are sooooo many villains with HO's worried about how ED would affect them that that information was necessary in the original post.

If they just hard coded it such that you couldn't put more than 3 enhancements of any given type in a power that would be better than having all this baloney about it dropping off at one rate then another.

Then, if they made all SOs buff 33% instead of having different levels of buffs, that'd help too...it would definitely make defensive abilities a bit more manegeable.

However, that still leaves the issues surrounding damage output...

Is there still a post lying around with their testing results? I want to head over to test to do some replication of those results with my tanks and scrappers.
  25. [ QUOTE ]
Because the original post was for the City of Villains forums and was just cut and pasted by CuppaJo?

    Because it slipped his mind?

Because it was a recent change due to their internal testing?

Because he hates us and wants to drive us all away, thus depriving him of his income?

Because everything is the fault of the Japanese Yakuza who buy weather sattelites from the Ruskies and uses them to create hurricanes, natural disasters, Ale 8 One, and other horrible events?

    Take your pick.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I love how that was copied and pasted so people can say that it was originally meant for CoV, but answer me this: how many toons in CoV had HO's that they had to wonder about?

Other thoughts...how the heck does this help with tanker survivability? The defense adjustments were bad enough, and that the patch to fix the defense based sets problems hasn't even hit test yet after how long...

I could go on, but I'm losing the desire to care and play.
