Quote:If this is the case, I would definitely go with Fire Blast for your primary. If you truly want to be the "cannon" and stay at range, nearly any secondary with the exception of Devices will give you useful tools (I find NRG to be the most versatile due to all the simple click enhancers and the early acquisition of Build Up). If you want to blap, I suggest Energy or Electricity Manipulation.Basically I want to just be "The Glass Cannon" For me, this character is gonna be all about the huge damage, building every alpha/incarnate ability to add to that. So i want to start with a foundation from which that can build effectively. Any suggestions are very much appreciated.

It is a decent combo that sort of evolves. You'll spend most of your career before 20 as a ST damage dealer (since you'll have Shriek, Scream, and Shout all by lvl 10). Howl and Psychic Scream are both decent cone attacks, but I've found Howl to be underwhelming compared to the surrounding single target blasts, and Psychic Scream's animation is a bit long in my opinion. You can definitely skip Shockwave, since the damage is minimal and you'll get better mitigation later on.
Siren's Song is what makes this combo go round, and turns you into a PBAoE monster while solo. Or, if you are like me and prefer to pick your enemies off one at a time with single target blasts, Siren's Song works great for that too. Slot this up for accuracy, sleep duration, and maybe recharge depending on how fast you are burning through mobs. This allows you to run in to the middle of the mob, hit Drain Psyche and hop out while avoiding most of what would have been an alpha strike. Then of course, once you get both Dreadful Wail and Psychic Shockwave, you can drop back-to-back mobs with few leftover enemies and barely taking a scratch since you are attacking while they're asleep.
Finally, if you are looking for powers you could probably do without, I would skip Shockwave (just not that good), Mind Probe (will be come obsolete in later levels), and World of Confusion (though that is definitely a personal preference, as I know some people who love to run WoC all the time).
Mental Manipulation is quite melee/PBAoE heavy (5/9 moves). If you are someone who prefers distance (like myself), you might want to consider a different secondary. But if you don't mind getting up close and personal, these two sets can compliment each other very well. -
Serva, I completely agree. Thunderous Blast, Thunder Strike, Lightning Rod, and even Short Circuit all outweigh Ion Judgment in the SFX department. That little "zap" sound should be reserved for the Praetorian Clockwork Mender electrical attacks (though I think they may be slightly different).
Void sounds like a black hole mixed with a Nova-style attack, Pyronic is an explosion, and Cryonic sounds like a blizzard is blowing icicles through a solid object. Ion needs some THUNDER! -
I would love to see a sort of live-beta-test of this idea perhaps within the Kheldians. The amount of people requesting some Kheldian attention is steadily growing (especially among Peacebringers). Since they are already archetypes that are suited for multiple roles, why not add another facet in there? Say you get to choose where you want your powers to excel (damage, defense, secondary effects, ranged vs. melee, etc.). So someone could choose, at the character creation, to have a more blaster-esque Kheldian, with a higher ranged damage output, but smaller numbers from their defensive shields. Also, an increase in ranged damage would also increase the damage output of their Nova form (so as not to make the form insignificant). Obviously, that's just one example, and this is just an idea that popped into my head. It is far from well-thought-out, and I'm sure would be quite the nightmare for the programming team.
As for the rest of the game... I'm not so sure it would be a good thing, unless there were proper balances put in. Of course, there would be the 15-20% of the player base that would make their toons the way they wanted, even if it meant that they were "gimping" themselves in the process (in relation to the overall population). But the rest of the player base would go for the most effective power type combo, with few variations. Some would do it out of their want to be the strongest and have the best stuff, others would do it just to keep up with former. Whatever the reason, character diversity would decrease significantly, and I think that is a big draw of this game: You cannot do it all with one character. If that were the case, people would get bored faster, and the game would probably have collapsed by now. But when all the servers are in the yellow on a Saturday night, you know you are doing something right. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Again, I am not totally against the idea, but I would have to see a really good system be put in place before I could get behind it. -
I'd love to give my two cents, but they would be a repeat of what everyone else said. I say you finish it. That Strike Force is the FIRST we are hearing about this, and the wording is vague at best, left open to interpretation. I say you are totally green-lit to finish this story.
Plus let's be real, Positron would have to meet Infernal's approval to get anywhere near Numina. I don't know if anyone in Paragon, even Positron, can get the good graces of that guy. -
I completely support the idea, if only because your main goal is to get more people involved.
That said, I actually think this will become less of an issue in a month or two. By then, most people will have finished cycling their 50s through the trials for their specific goals (whether that's just two 50s going for a simple T1 of one slot, or 5+ 50s all going for T4s in everything). I am betting they will become events scheduled through SGs on a weekly basis or so, much like Hamidon or Ship raids.
Up until now, and probably for the next couple weeks, there has been and will be a surplus of non-incarnate 50s. But eventually, the demand will decrease and so will the supply of players. It could very well turn out that Lambda will be the more oft run trial, simply because league leaders will have an easier time filling a Lambda league than finding an extra 8 people with new 50s for a BAF league.
So again, I am behind this idea, but it may eventually be a moot issue. -
Yes. This is why I got into AE in the first place. But then I realized I was sort of alone in that mentality, haha.
I'll show if I can! (By "can" I mean if I can get my partied-out brain to function at what will be 11am for me :P) -
Somebody beat ya to the punch. Er, topic. I believe what you're looking for can be found here.

Quote:Blasters and Controllers already have 5 to every other AT's 4. Sure, the addition of one more to Defenders might bring that general player attention, but the fact is that it has been imbalanced for years and no one has said anything yet. The addition of one APP would just yield a bunch of threads, like this one, requesting further APPs for other ATs, which wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. So, if Defenders get a Cold APP.....what do the other 11 ATs get to make it fair?
You can't have one AT getting more APPs than any other AT, there will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth if Defenders have 5 pools to choose from and everyone else gets just 4. This was finally balanced when scrappers got a 4th pool to even them out with everyone else, and I don't think unbalancing it again in Defenders' favor would go over very well.
I'll sign this. I am a big supporter of ATs having APPs to match their primary/secondary combos. If the AT has access to (using this example) a cold-based primary and secondary, there should be a corresponding APP. Themed characters, man, c'mon! -
I gotta go with what Memphis_Bill said. If you are talking about revamping old content to match up with the new stuff, then I am all for that. Or just focusing on upgrading content that already exists. Though, zone rebuilds/upgrades (Boomtown, Crey's Folly, Faultline, etc.) should be done over a few issues, to keep with a realistic in-game time line.
But if we are talking about stripping down code, rewriting, etc... For starters, I do not believe they could do it in one issue's worth of content (that's not a lack of faith in the Devs, I just believe the job is HUGE). I would be all for seeing this done, even if they had to do it in bits and pieces over time.
When an MMORPG has been around for this long, has gone through as many staff rotations as it has gone through, and contains the enormous amount of content that we have access to in-game, there's really two ways to proceed: Either take a step back, look at your foundation (what you started with) and make any necessary fixes to bring it up to par with the newer stuff, or you close the book on it, acknowledging your job-well-done, and start something new and fresh based off what you have learned. Given that an MMORPG's survival relies on a constant player base, and creating an expanding world to keep the interest of said player base, I would prefer the former happen, even if it was an on-going process.
Paragon Studios has reached a big mile-stone by introducing an endgame into CoX, and we are at the very beginning of what looks to be an intricate endgame system that can lead multiple directions. Thus, the Devs have made a commitment to furthering this game, so let's not forget where the game started. It would go a long way, publicity wise, for Paragon Studios to be able to say, "Not only are we introducing a new direction to the game, but we are bringing the old stuff with us and upgrading." It advertises a development team that takes care of both their new and veteran players, and is aware of their entire creation, not just the latest add-on. -
Quote:So...pretty... can i haz it nao? They could use the old Matrix Room they had for the Arena.
*ahem* Yes, I'll sign on this. It would be nice to have an exclusive launch point for incarnate trials where we would not interfere with anything else going on in other co-op zones. -
Congrats on winning against the odds. I gotta wonder: Do these players really having nothing better to do with their time?
I had a similar situation yesterday: people entered the warehouses for acid/pacifier grenades before everyone was ready. Granted, I don't think they were trying to sabotage us but rather just being selfish and doing their own thing (which is bad in its own right, but at least it isn't negatively directed toward other people). -
Quote:I am a BIG fan of the above suggestions, and would love to have a costume emote along these lines. (And I think the emotes vary in length. Salute certainly seems shorter than Evil Laugh. So... 1-3 seconds a piece?)I think this belongs here,
I had an idea for a tech costume change emote, which we didn't get until the magic pack. now we get them with issues and packs.
An armoring up /cce either generic plates or hexagons moving about or flipping around to simulate. something similar like Tony Stark putting on the mkV (iirc) on the race track in the Ironman 2 movie or I know this is kinda stretch a similar effect that the TV series Viper used to transform the car.
youtube examples:
Ironman armoring sequence takes about 15 seconds from 0:04 to 0:019 this could made faster.
Hexagon thing from Viper the first season after that they used a different effect. again this takes 12 seconds.
How long are the costume change emotes?
A big THANK YOU for giving us an alternate animation to X-Ray Beam that doesn't involve the eyes. Along those lines, think we could get that same replacement animation on Shout from Sonic Attack?
I know 'Pistols' has something like 4 different animations that randomly fire off. I'd like to request a couple different random ones for 'Dual Wield.' Those two tend to be the most frequently used powers of the power set, so to have them both firing differently all the time would make the set even more visually fantastic.
That's all I have. For now... -
Quote:While that's an enticing option, this problem arises: If EVERYONE is waiting to join an established number of players already in a league, how is the league supposed to get that established number of players? Obviously, there are work-arounds, but that would be something to consider. It would be awesome if, when I enqueue via LFG, I could say that I wanted to wait for a 16 or 24 toon team. I don't really enjoy running trials with only seven other players. I want to be on a 16 toon Lambda or a 24 toon BAF. It's more fun, more mayhem, and more iXP.
Personally, I wish we did not have to all be in the same zone. How convenient would it be to join a league, then during the approx. 5-10 (perhaps even more) spent looking for a full group, you could go to Wentworth's or something? Then *BOOP* the confirmation start prompt comes up, you hit yes, and zone in right from where you are. A "Board Train" mission allows people to zone in from different train stations around the city. I have to think it is theoretically possible, just maybe not in the specific example I gave.
But staying on topic... Yes, I think a teleport power would be nice. Perhaps the League Leader gets a one-time "Assemble the Team" temp power once he has acquired the minimum number of players for a given trial? And can summon people from across the game to his location in a co-op zone? I dunno, just throwin' in my two cents. -
Got the reference. I see whatcha did there!
I'm actually using my character's theme and power choices to keep them unique. Of my 3 current 50s, none of them have Alpha powers (because none of them really apply to them as a character). Two have taken Judgment (though I haven't decided if they will be going any higher than T1) and the other will be taking Interface because I've always wanted his powers to have a secondary debuff effect. But so far, that's it! I have no need for Lore nor Destiny on any of them.
Does that gimp me for later content? I certainly hope not! But in the end, my characters will remain true to my original intentions. -
The one I have gotten the most compliments on: Wintervention
Runner up would be Phalanx Falcon. -
It's definitely the most unique sniper move out there. I can't think of anywhere else in the game where you can find that sound effect, and you fire four projectiles, where as others are usually just one or a sustained beam (as in Fire Blast's Blazing Bolt).
I, too, really enjoy the sfx of Proton Volley. -
Quote:Thanks. It makes sense now. And I think they balanced it to the best of their ability. They unfortunately have to cater to both the "I wantz it NAO!" crowd, but also make it difficult enough that not everyone gets it immediately. And that's what we've seen: if someone wanted the powers bad enough, he/she could run trials back-to-back-to-back on any and all characters and end up with Very Rares within the week (as quite a few have done). For the rest, it is clear that it is going to take a bit longer, as it should.I should've linked to it. It's from his MMO Designer blog. Here's the entry I was referring to.
Unfortunately, this also makes me think they will release another set of salvage/conversions for the next couple powers. *sigh* I don't know how much more my brain can handle! :P -
Quote:I'll tell you right now, the lines are getting quite blurred. I ran an ITF yesterday (difficulty set to the max) that happened to have a tanker with a T4 Pyronic Judgment. He broke away from the group at one point and knocked down an entire mob in one keystroke. Now, I don't know if he was running a Musculature Alpha, or what else he had going for him, but the fact is I have only ever seen a tanker do that type of damage one other time: the tanker in question was boosted with Fulcrum Shift, running a T4 Musculature, had Rage up, and used Shield Charge. With all of that, I think only one Boss in the mob had maybe a sliver of health left. Everything else was down for the count. It'll be more interesting to see how the various I20 incarnated ATs function outside of the new trials & leagues though.
I was on one of my blasters, and watching a tank take out a mob in one blow was a slap in the face. I am not saying that my blaster was less powerful, because I had my fair share of massive damage as well. Yes, of course I beat out the tank in terms of how much damage I was putting out over time. But the fact is that prior to i20, rarely would I see another AT (and certainly not a tanker) put out the kind of burst damage of which my blaster is capable. -
Quote:Would anyone mind posting an explanation of his reasoning? Or just posting a link to where I can find it? I seem to have missed that while reading up on ALL of the other stuffIncarnate currency overload?
While I understand Posi's reasoning for the new Incarnate currency I strongly dislike it.
I agree entirely with what you said Sardan. Here's hoping for a couple more trials in the near future. -
I think the last episode felt rushed, but I thought they set it up nicely for a good plot line in the second season (which I hope comes to exist).
I would bet money that the season was slated for a set quota of episodes, and the writers had to wrap up multiple plot lines in one 60 minute installment. If the powers that be decide that the show is worth continuing, a contract will probably be drawn up to include a larger number of episodes.
Things I want to see in Season 2:
- George ending up with a decent power that allows him and Jim to team up.
- A little more combat action from Stephanie.
- SOME KIND OF COSTUME FOR JIM! We've established that the same fictional heroes from our reality exist in theirs, so the need for super-powered beings to conceal their identities should be common sense by now. -
It's Nemesis. DUH!
I agree, it seems like it should be Prometheus, or we are made to think so. -
Quote:People are still going to be finished by the end of the month. Ran one today with a guy who already had a Tier 3 Destiny power. Granted, I don't know if he took the time to get any other powers (my guess would be no), but nevertheless, there will be those out there who have all of their T4s in about 2 weeks. It HAS to be something very long winded and 'grindy' otherwise people would be finished it all by the end of the month and then possibly be bored and leave.
I gotta say I'm very much in your position. I agree, the trials are fun. Visually great, not a huge time commitment, and have a high-stakes, large-scale feel to them. But, like you, I am not sure if I am going to want grind them to death to get the components I need. -
If you are set on this concept, go for it. Just let me say, as someone who tried, that the results were less than desirable, for two reasons (in my opinion): The quick feel of the DP animations clashes with the generally slow-but-powerful animations of EM, and the redraw of the pistols is a pain in the butt. (I'm not one to complain about redraw, it is what it is, but it kills this particular concept.)
Having said that, I would use your pistol powers far more than trying to melee. Take Hasten and slot it up quick, since that will help you keep a constant stream of bullets. Using standard ammo gives you a decent amount of knockback, which is very present in the Clerical combat, and the secondary effects of Swap Ammo aren't all that present with Blaster debuff numbers. Suppressive Fire is a great opening attack and will buy you some time (Piercing Rounds should go before it, but that's post-26). Executioner's Shot is a great finisher. (An approaching enemy should get to melee range just as ES finishes its animation, making for a point-blank killing stroke that sends the enemy flying back in rag doll fashion. I SWEAR the game goes into slow motion when it happens!)
Basically I would get yourself a bunch of recharge and decent slotting in Stamina and use the guns as much as you can. You will feel far more like a Cleric than if you actually try to punch something. -
Quote:By "grind," what he's implying is that, in order to get the slot(s) to which you refer, he has to play one of those two trials repeatedly. And if he wants to gain the materials needed to power those new slots, he has to play those same trials even more. (Yes. I am aware that there are other methods of gaining Threads, but the trials are quite obviously the best way to do it.) Before, if he wanted to unlock the Alpha slot, he had one arc to complete. True enough, there was no other option, but he only had to run that arc once. Then, in order to get the materials to power is Alpha slot, he could run any content involving 50+ enemies (except AE missions IIRC). That's TFs/SFs, tip missions, story arcs, radio missions, Ship/Hami raids, and even street sweeping.Teal Deer: Those who think even this latest content is "grindy" really has no idea of what the term implies. I got my first new slot in less than a day of playing. That's not a grind.
I'll keep saying it: The problem everyone seems to be having is that none of the aforementioned in-game activities directly give you access to the new slots, nor the materials for their powers.
