Sonic/Mental Manipulation thoughts

No MIDs build yet, but just wanting an opinion on the combo. and pitfalls to watch for? I will probably be frankenslotting for end/range/damage.

It is a decent combo that sort of evolves. You'll spend most of your career before 20 as a ST damage dealer (since you'll have Shriek, Scream, and Shout all by lvl 10). Howl and Psychic Scream are both decent cone attacks, but I've found Howl to be underwhelming compared to the surrounding single target blasts, and Psychic Scream's animation is a bit long in my opinion. You can definitely skip Shockwave, since the damage is minimal and you'll get better mitigation later on.

Siren's Song is what makes this combo go round, and turns you into a PBAoE monster while solo. Or, if you are like me and prefer to pick your enemies off one at a time with single target blasts, Siren's Song works great for that too. Slot this up for accuracy, sleep duration, and maybe recharge depending on how fast you are burning through mobs. This allows you to run in to the middle of the mob, hit Drain Psyche and hop out while avoiding most of what would have been an alpha strike. Then of course, once you get both Dreadful Wail and Psychic Shockwave, you can drop back-to-back mobs with few leftover enemies and barely taking a scratch since you are attacking while they're asleep.

Finally, if you are looking for powers you could probably do without, I would skip Shockwave (just not that good), Mind Probe (will be come obsolete in later levels), and World of Confusion (though that is definitely a personal preference, as I know some people who love to run WoC all the time).

Mental Manipulation is quite melee/PBAoE heavy (5/9 moves). If you are someone who prefers distance (like myself), you might want to consider a different secondary. But if you don't mind getting up close and personal, these two sets can compliment each other very well.

I am a blaster first, and an alt-oholic second.

Really, it's the most versatile blaster build that exists.

You have...

-rech
-regen
-recov
-res
KB (ST/Cone)
Sleep (Very wide range, fast recharge Cone)
Disorient (ST and PBAoE)
Hold (if you take epic)
Fear
Confuse
Immob
+reg
+rec
ST Damage (powerful)
Cone Damage (2)
PBAoE

And Smashing/Energy/Psychic damage covers the whole spectrum of things enemies can be weak to, (because of how armors resists are themed) No one in the game will be resistant to everything you can do.

Also, Sirens song is perfect for setting up drain psyche and going either ST one by one, or doing my favorite combo, DP-> Psy Wail -> Nuke

You will have slower animating attacks than other sets (discluding rad and psy) but they do pack quite a punch, and they help your team out with their debuffs considerably.

I find they mesh together perfectly, psy fills Sonics Area damage hole, sonic fills Psy's lack of ST heavy hitters and psy's love for PBAoE range is mitigated by the sleep.

I have a sonic/MM blaster that is 50 (+1) She is near soft capped to S/l and 30's E/N, I will post it later.

It is definetly a 'in your face' blapper. So having soft capped s/l is nice. I love palying her and it is a great combo. I skipped Siren's Song and sometines I wish I didnt, but I rarely solo this toon. I also skipped WoC and took MInD Probe and dont regret my decison, she ahs great PBAoE's and decent short ranged to medium ranged attacks.

I say roll one up!!

Blapping isn't really Sonic's style unless you're talking single target. I use my Sonic/MM/Elec as a cone spammer(Howl/Psychic Scream/Static Discharge) with lots of utility as listed by Katten.

Mains (Freedom) @Auroxis
Auroxis - Emp/Rad/Power Defender Pylon Video Soloing an AV
Pelvic Thunder - SS/Elec/Mu Brute
Sorajin - Elec/Nin Stalker
Neuropain - Sonic/Mental/Elec Blaster

I'd say take both mindprobe and WoC.

Mindprobe: Because high ST Psy damage rocks unstoppable invuln based mobs.

WoC: Because even though it sucks for 49 levels, once you can slot the purple set you get cheap purple set bonuses, a somewhat reliable melee range confuse, and the purple proc which makes it an often high mag melee range spreading confuse. It may not seem like it, but slotted with that set it diverts about half of all unwanted melee attention away from you and at your enemies.

So I guess what I'm REALLY saying is, respec in to WoC and don't take it before 50, at which point take it and 6 slot it.

It's a great combo, and highly customizable. This was my first Blaster 50, and it has a huge bag of tricks. I grabbed the Elec APP for Static Discharge and slotted for recharge and damage, giving him a triple cone attack chain that worked very well on teams. The Elec APP also has EMPulse, which stacks stun quite nicely with Psychic Shockwave. When all else failed, I could also use Siren's Song and kill one enemy at a time with ST attacks.

I like bringing this Blaster on AV killing runs because of the -Res and -Recharge in its attacks. The contribution might be small, especially when compared to the insane debuffing power that Sonic Blast gets for Defenders, but it makes a difference.

I guess I'd call it a mid-range Blaster-Of-All-Trades. To use everything, you'll have to pop into melee from time to time. You have access to Mezzes that make soloing a breeze, Strong ST damage, Solid cone AoE damage, and some PBAoE/Melee damage just to top things off. It can always make a good contribution to a team, and it can solo very well.

Too many alts to list.

After a few days of play I have to say this is the funnest blaster I have played, (granted, part of it is thematic, I built a small hawk using the animal pack).

Plenty of damage (mostly via frankenslotting) and the debuffs help the team a lot. already see some chages im going to want to do... thankfully the WST this week is the terra volta respec mission
