Quote:I heartily agree, Virtue is fine for 'adults' but I would not put a youngster at risk - however minimal - it would be very difficult to keep her out of PD where most of the 'hanky-panky' takes place.Save your lil sis from getting addicted to a MMO!
Little experience in low pop servers here, but Justice seemed very nice when played there. Started today on Champion, found some very nice people from the start, but only 2 hours of playtime is too early to tell especially for what you're looking for.
I agree with you on Freedom, my most played server. My negative experiences there are almost zero, but since there are so many people, you find a little of every kind of person, that might not be good for her.
Oh I don't agree. While I love Virtue, redside some players take their rping kinda seriously and sometimes say inappropriate things for a pre-teen (not that they're being rude or anything, I find people there very polite, only had one negative experience there and it was blueside and nothing related to being inappropriate for a kid). Anyway, Pocket D would already be a criteria for not going there imho.
Any other server is fine though - Freedom can be a bit overawing for a youngster though. I find players on Victory and Guardian very helpful. Hope she has a brawl whichever server you choose for her. GL -
Many thanks for taking time to respond - and so quickly too. Also for your helpful suggestions Pyber.
I have reinstalled IE as you suggested. I am keeping Firefox as my default browser and have bookmarked CoH and am using that to access the forums etc, finding it's not as really tedious as I first thought and as yourself following the links is not a problem. I really think I went into some sort of panic not being able to use the CoH updater as I always had and was was having a bit of a hissy fit. -
New computer - W7 64bit Home.
Using IE as my default browser which says it is 64bit. It appears that I cannot install Adobe Flash player as it will only work in a 32bit browser. Following a friends advice I installed Firefox which apparently is a 32bit browser thus enabling me to use the Flash player.
Was very pleased with the result until I wanted to access forums, support etc from the COH updater icon on my desktop - the way I usually do it. I got pop-up asking me if I wanted to make IE as my default browser, I thought that now I had changed to Firefox it would have automatically been my default browser for COH. So..I uninstalled IE hoping that would solve the problem.
Sadly, it didnt as now it appears I can no longer access COH forums, support etc from the updater, which I was always able to do before I uninstalled IE. The only way I can access the forums etc now is by a long tedious route via the Firefox browser.
Has COH got a 'thing' against Firefox or am I being a tad paranoid? Is there a way round this problem or should I return to using IE as my default browser? -
Crashing a few mins after log on myself - frozen screen and looping sound. Reassured myself with the memory that this sort of thing happens with every new issue and that I need to exercise a modicom of patience until stuff gets sorted out. I have found that it sometimes help if I verify files when I log back on.
-
Reminds me of that old childhood nursery rhyme The Grand Old Duke Of York - the chorus goes "When they were up they were up. And when they were down they were down. And when they were only half way up they were neither up nor down."
-
Deleting those pigg fines worked fine for me until I logged off and rebooted, the problem seems to have come back, just tried deleting the piggy files again but when I logged back into the game the white walls were back *sighs deeply*.
-
Quote:This worked perfectly fine for me also - thank you very much indeedyHealix, try purposely deleting texWorldV1.pigg (the file a previous poster mentioned got re-updated for them) and run the updater again.
The textures have to be available somewhere because I am seeing them just fine. You just need to fix your file. Hopefully that one will do it for you. -
I'm having the same white background problem some of the others have. Been using this same card for the last 69mnths and have never seen this before, thought my Vid card had finally given up on the abuse. Reassured somewhat that others are having this issue. I have tried veryfying files, but found it hadn't worked.
Going to try deleting that pigg file and seeing if that helps. -
On the subject of Vidiotmaps download, has anybody had any issues with the game crashing after installing it?
-
Done and dusted. It works beautifully - I could kiss you - I was getting RSI deleting coh shortcut icons. MANY THANKS.
-
Many thanks for your responsed - all useful - as if I cant clear the 'shortcut icon' problem a fresh download of the game might be another way, though my original disc might be classed as a museum piece as it's almost 6 years old it has only been used the once so is still in pristine condition.
@ Aggelakis - we have repeated BillZBubba's instruction half a dozen times now and he gives the same advice as yourself, and am positive that we are deleting the first of the two shortcuts, thanks. -
I have a new computer running with Windows 7. I have copied the entire directory from the old computer to the new one with an external drive. Following BillZBubbaÂ’s instructions on how to do this I am having a small problem. The game runs correctly however every time I boot up it places two additional shortcut icons on the desk top. Has anyone got an idea where I am going wrong? Any help would be much appreciated as it is driving me bonkers.

Thank you all for your responses.
It's good to know that if I go with a new ISP I will not be going to be cut off mid-game because I've exceeded that 80GB limit.
@Starcloud: I don't play Second Life - Ewww! -
I'm looking to change my internet service provider as the one I am currently with has been providing me with a very unreliable service for the past month.
What I need to know is how many GB's does CoX use when I play it upwards of 8 hrs a day, 7 days a week - per month - for example does an 80GB download limit enable me to do the above or would I be using much more than this? -
I had it on Founders Falls radio mish over the weekend, I petitioned and waited over 30 mins for a GM to get back to me. I would have auto-completed the mission but had had my ration for a couple of days. As it's happening a 'lot' perhaps the Devs might like to fix it asp. QOL stuff like this can be most irritating.

Quote:I do hope you are taking into account the recipe drops that you get as well? I did Katie a couple of weeks ago and picked up a respec recipe as a drop - worth 78mill at WW. Fortunately I was able to sell it as I get 3 respecs with each toon as vet rewards which I rarely use.did the Katie Hannon tf last night. a pug team, we had 4 team wipes, several other deaths, then finally on completion we recieved 9 merits. not enough for a merit reward roll.by my calcuations you would have to do this tf 8 times to get a reward roll. the risks were way more than the rewards here. i know some people say they could do it in less than an hour, but with all our deaths we took over 2 hours to complete. wont be doing this one anytime soon!

Viva la difference!
It takes all sorts to make a world and all sorts to change one. Lets be tolerant of others and celebrate all the differences and similarities we enjoy between us. If we were all the same we would be colourless and boring. -

I was playing nice earlier. Here's the deal. I don't like teaming. So when I do it is for a specific reason. If I feel the team will not help me accomplish whatever goal I'm going for, then I will quit. I won't give notice or anything. I'll just quit the team. I personally don't care if it is a PuG radio team or a task force. If I don't think the team directly benefits me in the way I want, then I'll just leave.
Do you know why I will do it that way?
Simple, because I see teams as nothing more than fillers to use as I see fit. When they are no longer useful, I leave. That simple. If the leader has a problem and demands an answer, I'll let him/her know. But I won't be nice about it. I will be extremely blunt and critical.
But Munki, why be so mean? Simple, because I play this game so I can have fun. As long as I'm not breaking any rules, I don't give a crap about anybody else. If somebody's day is worse off because they ran across me, I don't care. I see all of yall as nothing more than fillers on the way to accomplish my goals.
edit: The people that feel they deserve some sort of explanation are self obsessed losers. That simple.

I think it's just a matter of common politeness, doesn't take a moment, makes people feel better and it's no skin of your nose. Then again some people are born to be rude or just think it's clever to emulate some sort of 'folk' ( I say this advisedly) hero.
@ the OP - I've noticed that this sort of thing has increased with the advent of AE, teams seem to be much more dynamic when I am playing AE missions than when doing generic story arcs - I excuse it because it appears to come with the territory. Try not to get upset about it and reassure yourself that there are many, many more decent and polite players that play CoX than impolite ones. -
Aye! It reminds me of a nursery rhyme my mom used to sing titled "The Grand Old Duke of York" the chorus of which went....
And when they were up they were up.
And when they were down they were down.
And when they were only half way up they were neither up nor down. -

The server status is saying they are, but I still can't connect. is it just me?

Take a look at the date at the bottom: Updated: 2009-06-24 13:05:02 UTC
There's something wrong with the server status page where sometimes it shows the status as it was at that time (ie. all up) and sometimes if you refresh (or shift+refresh) it'll show you the correct time/date and the correct status.

Aye - you could well be right, but the notice says that the Server Status page will update automatically and there is no need to refresh.
I guess the gremlins must have been in there too having a nibble or two.
Hey maybe they are going to fix the Server Status page at the same time as other stuff - we can only hope. -
It might be helpful if the Server Status reflected this, my Server Status page says the servers are up.

This seems as good a place to ask as any...
Why do so many contest organizers insist on a "no powers" rule? I mean, I understand not wanting some jerk to disrupt everything by having Shadow Fall running the whole time, but telling, for example, a low-level fire tank that he can't have Fire Shield running seems unfair, especially when stuff like weapons or combat auras are usually considered okay. A lot of the time, powers are just as much a part of a character's visual element as their costume is; you think the Human Torch was designed to look cool when he's not on fire?
[/ QUOTE ]
And...a CC is usually for the best costume, not how many/few powers you have. Lots of powers detract from the look of a costume anyway and also give mid/high levels an advantage over lower levels. So the 'no power' rules is usually one that makes for fairness. -
Tosh!
