By taking inspiration from him, I can still have the coherent, single-character plot line running but also legitimately spread across the archetypes without diluting my ideas or coming up with anything too convoluted.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is something I did with one of my characters (Alita Crane) as she was a tech based hero who's abilities were the result of the suit she was wearing.
This in turn led to three different versions of her being made, and used regularly IC for missions and plots or just hanging out at GG.
It can be used to add an extra twist to the character as well. After taking a pounding in a plot related mission, you could say that the suit being used at the time was badly damaged and then be forcedto use a back up which the character isn't as familiar with or is still in it's experimental state. -
Well, aside from this point...

There, Their and They're/Your and You're - It's a common topic for primary school kids who are only just grappling with the English language, and while some manage to grasp it, some, unfortunately fail. Forever managing to mix them up long into adult life. For people who's second language is English, this is forgiveable, but for everyone else, it's really simple if you missed it:
- There is over there.
- Their belongs to them.
- They're means "they are".
- You're means "you are".
- Your means belonging to you.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm in full agreement
This part I quoted is something I'd often put down to either not having English as a first language (hell, it's my only language and I can't spell most of it, and my grammer / punctuation is nigh-shameful) or perhaps rushing their typing to keep up with local chat flow.
None of us are perfect (no matter how deluded some people seem to be about that) and typos, mistells and such WILL occur no matter how careful people are, but there's a limit to how far you can push the typo excuse with constant use of 'txt speak' or whatever it's called these days. -
Okay, wrote out a nice reply, thenj the boards freaked and left me with nothing.
Basically, had stuff to deal with recently and RL comes first, hence sporadic in-game times of late.
A regular day of the week is a good plan, and Wednesday works great for me.
Recaps I'm not so good with, usually they're merely a sarcastic proclamation of my general annoyance at the foolish events of the day (and even those are rare these days since I tend to avoid the GG scene a lot more than I used to, was proving bad for my health)
Anyways... that's my opinion, take it or leave it, and now, I'll say g'bye -
The only way, and I repeat this for added emphasis...
THE ONLY WAY
to decide if a toon is up for the big bad delete button, is if YOU (yes you, the person playing it and paying the sub' fee's) don't have fun playing that toon any more. End of story.
As for shuffling others around, renaming etc, also your call, though I would advise that with low level toons, maybe it'd be more financially sound to just delete and remake with desired name, as opposed to paying almost a months sub to change it. Not like it'll take you a month to remake a lvl 10 alt is it?
Having said all that, please note this is coming from somone who bought a second account just so he could have more alts because he didn't want to delete any toons at all, so your milage may vary -
Well, we all agreed to meet up again today (being Saturday now, so probably around 8pm.
However, I'd keep an eye open here just incase anything else gets posted (like times, places etc) -
Funny you should say that. I think the idea for the SG came from someone wanting to make a Baseball bat wielding tank...
-
*glances over list of loose alts, delete fodder toons and a rare empty toon slot*
Sure I can find something that'd work. Low profile crime fighting, just the way I likes it. -
Already have :-P
Good to have you back matey, and my little clown is still hanging around waiting for her boss to get back. -

3)Also, the Hyenas are a good example that a it is NOT true that VILLAIN equals EVIL! Villain just means that you do what it takes. The Hyenas aren't really evil, but no less villains for that reason. Sure, some villains just aren't made for social situations but they can find other purposes and if not, well then roll another villain.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is the kind of Villain I prefer (and the type I personally play) and there's probably several readers of this who've met Cyder and could tell you she's a very pleasent, if flirty, young lady. What they couldn't tell you is that if you stand in her way over a business deal she'll not think twice about shooting you. This doesn't make her evil, it's a matter of survival.
In the dog eat dog world of the Isles showing signs of weakness can lead to trouble, so for those just trying to scratch out a living away from Arachnos there's really no choice, you have to get them before they get you.
The villain that kills to survive is no more evil than the hero that fought and killed during the Rikti war just to stay alive. (don't you just love moral grey areas) -
[ QUOTE ]
If we really want proper villain RP (with heroes as well) all we have to do is get together, plan and coordinate and do it! It'd probably takes a lot more effort than normally, but it certainly can't be said that there isn't any room for proper megalomaniacs in this game or "take over the world"-schemes, or just villain RP in general.
[/ QUOTE ]
The big problem with 'take over the world' plots, (again this is just my opinion so take it at face value) is that due to them affecting the entire world, and as such it's the responsibility of any hero trying to stop said plot to warn the world. Once the warning has gone out about a global threat every civic minded hero would leap to help (great so far, mass participation while still leaving people with the option to leave it alone if they choose) So lets see a GM come up with a plot that can hold up against such an insanely vast collection of abilities. Now factor in all those villainous types that would also seek to stop said wold domination plot, if only to later try something similar them selves.
Now before people stay pointing out that the plot might have multiple ways to prevent near instant resolution, I'd like to point out that the plot HAS to fail as there's no way to enforce any form of domination at all over the game world and as such will have at least one way for the collective 'do-gooders' to vanquish the evil bad-guy.
Like I said, this is just my opinion, I'd love to see a plot like that actually running and working, but I just don't think it's realistically possible to run something on that scale in CoX, maybe in other places with actual mechanics for controlling the world (Kinda like the factions system for town ownership and control from Ultima Online waaaaay back when...) just not in a world where almost everything relies on players consenting to events even occuring, never mind unwelcome outcomes to IC situations. -
[ QUOTE ]
If you're playing an incredibly neutral character who gets along in some way with everyone, you're hardpressed to get any rp at all.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't agree.
My main villain, who has been seen freely chatting happily and freely with 'heroes' and 'villains' over the past year and a half, can do so with amazing ease. It's merely a case of keeping her social and professional lives seperate.
The true 'evil' type (like the previously mentioned Red Skull and his ilk) really don't have a place in CoX (in my opinion at least) BECAUSE they are doomed to failure, and who the hell wants to back a loser? Their behaviour pattern is pretty much pre-set with the player really only picking whatever the villain wants to dominate / decimate / devour / whatever, and since the plan to destroy the world is never going to work due to the inability to affect the game world in any real way these all powerful, evil lords are reduced to deeds more fitting with the game setting like the rest of us.
Personally, I prefer my 'villains' to be 'evil' because they have to be in order to survive, that they do the things that make then a criminal as a result of circumstances in their past. This said, I do enjoy meeting other villains who work differently, the kind who worm their way into the hearts and minds of their victims before the horrific truth is revealed. -

Well, K, you'll be sorely missed, as ever.
Hopefully see you soon, though.

Think this pretty much sums it up.
I'll be keeping an eye open for you in case you decide to wander back to the city again.
Until then, I guess all there is to do is wish you luck with where ever you venture next buddy. -
Love the idea, just 1 real quick point....
Jan 30/31 seems a bit late for a festive, christmas / new year's type party don't you think? And you'll be out of the Chalet by then I think -

I'm guessing this will take place in PD... Might I suggest the Villains side bar to hopefully reduce interference?

Would have thought the Monkey cage area a better choice, what with it having various tables for gambling already laid out.......
Just a thought .... -
Something that really makes me happy when using my Empath, and to a lesser degree when I see others doing it if they join a team I'm on with friends who buff folks, is members helping the defender (or controller, as most of the points are equally relavent) by letting them know which of their buffs are most suited to the way they play. No point wasting a shot of Fort, AB or anything else along those lines, if the crazed fire blaster is given the go ahead to run in, nuke, faceplant, RotP and dust them selves down.
By doing this, they also give you an idea of which other team members are going to require more attention than others, and it's a chance to make requests of your own.
Could just be me being fairly new to the defender side of things which makes this seem unusual and helpful, but thought it was worth mentioning -
(( Would like to say thank you to all involved with the organisation / hosting of the ball.
Was a little hesitant about attending (for IC reasons, it's been quite a while since Ves really spoke to any of the ST members and didn't really want to take him to a party if he didn't know anyone there) but I'm so glad I did
Much fun was had, a few old faces were seen (Coile with hair!!!! ) and even party-crashers! Perfect!!
Well done all, and once again, thank you
*big thumbs up* )) -
For me, issue 10 is going to be a strange time, both during and after the initial invasion.
While the waves of Rikti are swarming through the city (during the invasion phase) life will basically be a case of 'Fight or die' and to be honest, the decision there is a total no-brainer.
Ves will be highly likely to spend his days laughing maniacally as he battles on the streets with little to no regard for his own personal well-being. Weeping Blade will no doubt get stuck in, as would Alita, though they wouldn't revel in the fighting anywhere near as much.
It's the post invasion phase that's going to be the difficult area. I (like the vast majority of other players I assume) have never experienced life in a post-war situation, and as such it will be hard work to realistically represent this in-game. It's all well and good pointing out that there'd be food shortages, travel issues etc, but as FFM pointed out (and sorry if if it was pointed out by others as well, but FFM's the poster that IO see pointing it out most) without some form of official notice coming from the people in control of the game world, it's all left to guess work.
It's this that can lead to conflicting opinions, there's going to be some that decide to develop their characters using a 'worst case scenario' type setting, and no doubt some that prefer to take the other extreme. Now while neither of these options is wrong (hell you're free to RP whatever you like so long as you have fun imo) it can lead to OOC conflict, and some people may find that characters they've RP'd with for a long time have changed quite dramatically (depending on the level that the character involves themselves with the war)
Personally, I'd be happy if there wasa statement made AFTER the initial invasion phase was finished (either in-game, via a post on the CoH site or a post on the forums) just to let people know what measures were being taken to ensure the survival of the city and it's inhabitants. Sure it might not answer ALL our questions and worries, but a little info is better than nothing. It'd give us something to work with at least. -
Managed to avoid the tools when Ves and Nyu were married by holding the wedding at the end of one of the piers in Talos, gave us plenty of rooms for guests etc, and went off without a hitch so far as I can recall.
Using a seperate channel for the event might be a good idea as you say, and finding a nice quiet area of the city hall might help as well (if that's posible.)
A spot with low OOC traffic will spare you the majority of tools, but unfortunately, those determined to ruin RP events (and we all know that recently, the numbers of people like that seem to have increased) will still annoy regardless of measures taken.
I wish you all the best -
[ QUOTE ]
I agree!
[/ QUOTE ]
Okay, the world has officially gone mad if folks agree with me -
Personally, I can't wait for this...
Ves was pretty much built for it, a militarty nanotech combat system that's never really had a full blown field test (apart from the Requiem war, but due to work commitments I wasn't able to get as involved with that as I wanted). Now there's going to be blood and battles on the street, nowhere will be safe, and he's going to love hacking his way through the lot of it.
The one thing I don't fully agree with is PD becoming a safe haven, especially not for RP. Maybe after the initial world event, but during it you'll have everyone trying to avoid the chaos flooding there, and I'm sure many of you can already the annoyance any 'tools' might cause with so much RP to disrupt.
SG bases are, in my opinion at least, far more likely to be used for general RP concerning the invasion. Think about it, where makes more sense to relax and prepare for the next wave of enemies, a night club or your teams fully equipped and stocked base, with it's high grade defences, supplies and other things that'll prove useful ion a war.
I can't really see a pint and a pack of pock scratchings saving the world, but that big ol' laser cannon tucked under your bunk at the base might..... -
Well at least the tool population should be reduced, the double exp will take care of that

Just emote your actions, sit down, eat a burger or read a book, if you're really upset about something start sniffing or crying.

Fantastic advice, and some that I often follow with my more well known toons.
Not only does it show that you're there to RP, but it also keeps that annoying little AFK message from above your head.
Those 3 little letters are basically a sign telling the world that you're not there at all, never mind to RP.
Simple little actions which are easy to work into your IC behavior, (especially in PD, where I've spent half a night chatting away to folks after making a quick remark on the way they spoke to the bar-staff) will show that you're both an RPer, and that you're there to respond to others.
IMHO, nothing puts people off like a flag saying the player isn't there to respond, and if it's only there because your toon is just being quiet, then every one misses a chance for possible enjoyment -
It's been nightly for as long as I can remember

I'd personally add Invuln to the AoE potential list.
Invincibility has a built in Taunt aura, and once mobs get close it boosts your accuracy and defence.
My Claws / Invuln scrapper loves this handy effect (which isn't noted in the power description, so not everyone knows about it) as it gathers things round nicely for Spin and Eviscerate.
