Yes it IS a risk. But it's just a small ceremony attended by some close friends. It's bound to be rather quick.
And we can always start a new channel to speak in, with a separate chat-window so that we can "ignore" everything not related to the event.

I think a new channel would be nice.
Hopefully we wont get "jumped on" and power spammed if they only see a group of characters standing "quietly" in City Hall.
People are mostly just running down to their contacts anyway.
Hope you have a good time, i and Lunk done ours in Forum RP, its no risk then. And the wedding was 'privatly held' just two other characters to do the signiture stuff then the reception after the honeymoon. Which i think was at Pocket D's, oh all good fun. 
Managed to avoid the tools when Ves and Nyu were married by holding the wedding at the end of one of the piers in Talos, gave us plenty of rooms for guests etc, and went off without a hitch so far as I can recall.
Using a seperate channel for the event might be a good idea as you say, and finding a nice quiet area of the city hall might help as well (if that's posible.)
A spot with low OOC traffic will spare you the majority of tools, but unfortunately, those determined to ruin RP events (and we all know that recently, the numbers of people like that seem to have increased) will still annoy regardless of measures taken.

((This is an open invitation to the receptiopn of High Burn and GoodGuy's wedding, to be held this coming Monday in PD. Anyone who knows them is welcome to attend. The wedding itsself, however, will be heroes only, as it will be in City Hall at about 8:30pm. Hope to see you all there!))
