I know this isn't the same thing.
However, why not just enjoy the vip content, and then, when your sub ends, then buy the unlocks for your specific toons as needed? -
5 minutes?
It could be me, but traveling at level 2 to do a mission 740 yards away...
At level 4, I can get superspeed and wouldn't rely on team transport, mission transport or most other transports -at least not for a 740 yard commute.
If I were a brand new player to the game, it would be a non-issue. But, playing a 50 with Super Speed and then rolling a new character, sprint seems very, very, very slow. It took me 68 seconds just to get to that mission.
Getting to level 4 would be a whole lot faster if I could have just tp'd there in the first place.
I fully realize that getting to level 4 is not complicated or time consuming. I'm just wondering what the logic is behind it. Vet powers like Sands of Mu are usable right at level 1. So, why not the other temp powers? -
Although I "get" what Corinna is saying, I really don't like minimum or maximum sizes. I really don't get why they have them. Sometimes I feel like a team, and sometimes I don't.
I suppose, in the case of iTrials, that if one could solo them, they'd get farmed like crazy and it would be that much harder to get folks together for a trial on lower population servers.
I find it odd that when Sister Psyche was still "alive" and in IP, I couldn't solo that tf,(not without having folks pad for me and then quit the tf) but now that she's dead, I can solo it through ouroboros.
I don't like a team that is a pre-defined size. Either someone is left out, or you're short one or two. I suppose that's what the lfg queue is for - and it does seem to work much better for this summer event than anything else to date.
I have been on small teams before - and I've been on teams of 8 - and I like teams of 8 because the mission generally ends faster. And faster is always better for me. I'm not one who gets into the lore and story lines - I play for the effects, and well, out of habit, really.
But, that's just me and my two inf. -
As I was doing a numina and had finished clicking the glowie in the second mission, I use the team transport and got sent to the gate for bricks, instead of the mission that was in bricks. Odd behavior for my new toy.
-
Quote:But then I'd have to play a lot more missions as a villain. That would just be ....not good. I don't like red side. Too many roaches and spiders and bugs. I still don't know how they came up with the idea that bugs are the symbol of villainy. Snakes, I can understand. Even still, the idea of roaming through the isles with all the ugly spiders is not my idea of a good time.you could start as a villain and skip half of those tip missions
If I could unlock it at level 20, that would be something to consider - but to play on redside for 35 levels? Nah, don't see that happening. My base, my IOs, my salvage - all are on blue side. That'd be even worse. -
I cannot tell you how many times I've forgotten to select the correct mission and get sent somewhere else. It's less than 5, but it feels like a lot more. Stupid tp! It should be able to innately know where I want to go!
-
Well - a solution *could* be to simply add Hami-o style enhancements that gave set bonuses that increased the very attributes they are enhancing.
yes, I'd love to have 3 more slots - but if I can use a hami-o to save a slot here and there, it's really just like getting 3 more slots.
In a sense, they're doing this already with the new ATOs.
So, it's not really something that we don't already have. -
On the off-chance that some dev may stumble in this area,
is there some logic behind placing a level 4 minimum before Team Transport, Ninja Run, Base Teleport will work?
I realize at that low level that we're not gonna be moving that far, but 700 yards as a level 3 is a lot farther(longer) than 1.2 miles as a level 50.
I did pay for them with points - so it would be nice if they worked the whole time, not just 46 levels - when it could be argued that I need it less than as a fledgeling lowbie.
Not like level 4 takes a long time - but seriously - what's the logic behind this? -
ah well, no worries then.
Now, if I could just figure out why I didn't ask this in the appropriate section.....gettin' older, I guess, and I need more caffiene. -
I took my toon from Hero, to vig, villain, rogue and back to hero for the easier path to get the Eye of the Magus accolade, a respec and Mace Mastery.
Now, I just finished my hero morality, and No 50 reward merits, and no hero merit. Is this WAI? -
Mids' has a nifty way of giving you a list of all the salvage you will need to craft each IO you choose to slot. This way, you can scrounge around before you respec and get everything together -- sort of. The amount of salvage required is going to exceed what you can stash on you character and in the vault. So, you're going to have to craft as you go.
In the meantime, you should place some lowball bids for some items, and you should also feel free to use converters. Think smart, though. If I need a "miracle +recovery", I am not going to buy a cheaper miracle and try to convert that. I'd burn through converters pretty quick if the rng wasn't friendly. I'd reserve converters for things like taking a Kinetic Combat knockback proc and changing into any of the other 4. (That way you win regardless of the exchange.)
You might also get Red Fortunes, and convert them out of set, but in the defense category into LotG's. You might get lucky. The very first time I used converters, I got two 7.5% global recharges in a row.
The more characters you have over level 20 that have re-enforced their morality as hero or villain, the easier it will be to get all the stuff you need. Alignment tips get dull after a while, but they are a means to an end, and if you team instead of going solo, that can help break the monotony of doing the same tips repeatedly.
Don't totally discount the AE. As an SS/FA you can reach ticket max in a few minutes, maybe 5 or 7 minutes, depending on your build and your toons abilities. The AE is the cheapest way to get that very rare salvage. When you're talking about 60+ enhancements that may require 70 or 80 pieces of very rare salvage, that is going to add up.
If you're fairly social, you might try to mention the efforts your going through on a public channel. I routinely give away millions to folks starting out that have reached level 50, just to help ease the pain of having to work so much on something that they already know how to do. (and because I'd rather team with someone who has a solid build, and SOs, comparatively for most powersets, are junk.) -
Quote:Well, I won't lie to you. I've seen these folks that say that they don't have trouble finding a team on liberty (can't speak about the others). These folks that say this are seven, eight year vets. They know people. Liberty has 2 primary channels. LB, and LFA. And seriously, LFA is really so quiet, despite having pretty much the same group of folks in it, it may as well just be LB. However, there are at least 5 or 6 not so publicly known public and private channels that get used quite a bit.I have to say over the past couple years, I have not experienced one iota of this easy teaming people speak of(Pinnacle, Victory, Triumph, Liberty). I've joined the channels, played during primetime and off-peak time(I'm PST), tried starting teams(with little success). I'm sorry but during primetime on Triumph and only 17 people red-side, no one is getting a team. Are you telling me there are 500 people on hide? Yesterday on Pinnacle, a Saturday around 12-1pm, 43 people blue-side. Did anyone want to play the new Summer Blockbuster when I used the LFG channel? No.
For years, I've had little luck on the lower population servers. Yes, they are called lower population servers for a reason and even the people that say they have no problem teaming are calling them that when saying things like "I prefer the lower population servers because I know everyone". I have never found it 'easy' to find a team whenever this subject came up. I would try the suggestions on this forum about global channels, start your own team, etc with little to no luck.
I look at these forums and the responses and just hope either there is some secret handshake you don't let others know, you just "get it" but that is only a very small percentage of the population, you're lying for whatever reason or you and the few people you play with are the only ones experiencing this 'easy' mode(last one being the most likely to me). We are all aware the forum posters are but a fraction of the playerbase and I hope your experiences are not representative of most other players on the lower population servers.
All that said, after failing to have teams available at practically anytime, do you know where I actually found them? Hard to imagine, I know, but I moved onto a server that was mostly yellow every day of the week...yes, Virtue. No global channel needed. I get random invites, broadcast/LFG/Help/etc channels are abuzz with people looking for teams. I can start practically any TF and within minutes have a full team. It's wonderful and I'm sorry I spread myself out earlier among so many servers. What did I see on Triumph yesterday? One guy asking for DFB and another asking for Magistrate, followed by "Anyone?" Anecodotal, but so is every post in this thread.
I was hoping for a thread like this because I DO want to move some of my characters. What is stopping me? I don't want to give up all my prestige and bases I've built. I would gladly move to Virtue in a heartbeat if the server transfers would allow for a transfer of everything. Unless cross-server teaming becomes a reality, I don't see some of my favorite characters playing much team content(my 50 crab on Protector, villain side is another one that has yet to play Summer Blockbuster). I don't want to throw all that time/effort I put towards bases out the window. So, yes, I want better features to allow me to move to a server where I don't have to worry about 'getting it' as so many here seem to do. I'm not going to apologize for my choices but just ask that you respect I am different than you and for whatever reason any advice you have provided me over the years did not result in the easy team mode the posters in this thread are enjoying.
Thanks for listening.
<and thanks dugfromearth for posing this question>
So many times, I'll be leading a trial and I'll see some poor fellow who can't even get a dfb going. I was streethunting after I made a toon, and got to level 5 before I finally figured out that the only way to get something happening would be to form it myself.
I wanted a badge on my main, and nobody would run the ugt so I could get it. So, I came to the forums, sent tells to some of the folks that ran the trials on their server, now I lead MoUGT on Sunday nights and a regular run on Fridays - thanks to some help from other leaders. (I also got some tips from another player on Liberty)
My global list - after a 3 year hiatus grew from 20 or so to ...well, a lot more. But, during the day, I might see 3 of them on. Late at night, maybe 6. Prime time, however, I can get just about anything done I want.
Most of these folks are on hide. Some hide because of pvp farming, some because ..well, I dunno. I get so many tells now from folks who want nothing more than for me to lead a trial, it drives me insane. So, I start to hide. Sometimes I like to solo. I see these folks that try to form something, and I have no idea who they are. A task force is easy to accomplish, typically. But, some of them are long. If I don't know who you are, I'm wary of signing up, because I don't want to ever quit a tf, but I don't want to be stuck with someone who wants to kill every single thing, or someone who goes afk 5 minutes here and there because they're watching their child, or they're at work.
Chances are, I saw you trying to recruit for something, and I didn't say anything. But, it's all good, because I know that among the vips, most of them know me or know of me. And I still have a hard time getting a task force started at any time outside of prime time.
So, no, it's not a secret handshake or anything. It's just Liberty is what I would call an old school server. There has only recently (in the past couple of months) been an influx of new vips. Some are awesome, and some really need to level up again without DFB and ITF. The rest though, seem like they are all 7,8 year vets. Most are super friendly, willing to help - but 1) they have to know you. 2) They have to have time to help you. (so many of these players only have an hour to play, it seems) 3.)They have to not be busy doing something else already. It's hard to help someone with Trapdoor if you're busy clobbering Tyrant.
I honestly don't know why lfg doesn't really work for things like an iTrial. A league of 16 for a baf may pick up one or two. Yet, if no one is forming one, it does very little good to get in the queue. It is far faster to form it myself. (or end up doing something else because I can only get 4. ) -
Recently, all my slots on Liberty filled. So, I thought to myself - what to do? I still have a couple of transfer tokens - but do I move a toon off? or just roll one somewhere. Well, where to start? I still have plenty of toons on Liberty, and I lead trials on a scheduled, if not regular basis.
I decided against moving toons off of liberty. Some still need incarnate progress, and they'll continue to get that.
I have toons that haven't been played in years on most of the servers. But, I have 2 50s on Champion and one on Infinity. I won't compare and contrast - the results would be debatable. I did roll a toon on Virtue, and did some hero tips and deciphered an anagram for a couple of levels from some farmer. I see a lot of teaming going on - but all doing things I would rather not do. DFB? yuck. Hero tips? still? There's only so much of the same thing day after day I can accept. I don't see many task forces being formed, but I do see a lot of trial recruiting going on. Some of the names of the recruiters are familiar -and I'll try to keep an open mind about them. I figure my toon will hit 50 in a week or so, just depends on whether or not I cave in and do an itf or two. Am I "moved" there? Hey, if I can form a ugt in less than 10 minutes before noon, I just might. However, a lot will have to do with the quality of players. Liberty and Champion have some excellent players. People that follow instructions, and are willing to switch may not be rare on Virtue - I have no idea. But, if they don't have that, I don't think I'll be "moving" here.
I am not a fan of what I would call "extreme" role play. Some characters that people role-play are fine, but some are just over-acting -or they're role playing someone I'd like to punch in the mouth. That in itself is enough to make me think really long and hard before I would move here.
For now, Champion has the edge, if I were to move anywhere. Or Infinity. But Champion has forums that are far more active than most, and they have the stuff posted that I like to do. Task Forces and Master of iTrials. Virtue has none of that posted. Now, that could be that with a population that large, the leaders don't need to post. I don't know yet. But, from the outside, Virtue is just as low population as the others. Those yellow and red dots don't mean anything to me. -
Why in the world not? BFR used to be my opener before I got IOs - but now, I don't even use it anymore, other than as a set mule because of that animation time. Freeze Ray now recharges fast enough where I can just use it twice. I would love it if they cut that useless animation time down.
-
Well, I finally filled all the slots on my home server. So, I've made a point to start alting around on other servers.
My new toon on your server is now level 35 - and I am curious about a few things.
First, I'm wanting to get an SG beacon to RWZ, but I can't do that until I attend a mothership raid.
When you do you folks have these? Are they scheduled, or impromptu?
It would be tough to form one of these myself at level 35 for the obvious reasons, and I wouldn't want to wait until level 50 to finish with my base.
If they are scheduled, I don't see them listed here in the server section, nor in the calendar events. Where might it be posted? -
I cannot give a truly fair comparison, because there are still plenty of powersets I've not gotten around to.
However- as far as defenders go, I think the Elec secondary is as weak as you can get.
The defender primaries - they each do what they do - one will heal better - but one will not miss.
For controllers -- Well -so much of being a controller is defined by the pet or pets. In my thinking - there is no pet worse than the gremlins. Their damage is meh, the recharge is meh, and they are every bit as squishy as fire imps.
electric control - whether as a controller or a dom is just woefully inadequate base ONLY on my experience with them. Some folks, I would imagine make the set shine. I just can't see it, though.
For tanks - I've only playe fire, electric, stone and invuln to 50. Of the 3, I cannot imagine any other tank primary being as miserable to play as stone. With the new ATOs, and IO bonuses, my fire tank is at s/l resist cap, with well over soft capped s/l defense. And it can kill a whole lot faster than my stone/fire could - - a level 50 tank that I deleted with pleasure. Can't jump? There never was a tradeoff to make the movement penalties worthwhile. Just a horrible set to play. Again - some folks think they're awesome - and more power to ya - but I think they're trash, which is why I deleted mine.
A fire tank can do anything any of the others do and kill faster.
Scrappers- I've never been too big on scrappers - I hate having to hit F to follow the baddie that's running from me. I don't feel qualified to comment, I've only got three that are level 50, and two are so close to the same..... kat/invuln and BS/invuln - that they are pretty much the same thing. I also have a spines /regen - and although the regen is clicky - it is easily more survivable - IF I can remember to click every 20 seconds or so.
Blasters- So far, I've got ice, fire, mental manipulation and energy.
I had an electric - and when I compare Tesla cage to freeze ray .....or freeze ray to anything in energy primary or secondary...
a toss up between ice and MM for the best, but for the worst, I'll pick electric again. I deleted my level 26 elec/elec blaster - the hold is slow, attacks are just horribly weak. Foes that have their end drained still seem to squeeze off attacks - it's a totally useless thing to drain their endurance - draining their health is far more effective.
So, electric is my vote for dog of the blaster set. Near second place is dual pistols because of the drunken cowboy animations. Totally spastic some of them - and they really ruin the fun for me.
Someone said Beast Mastery was the worse of the MMs - I can't agree, because I like Beast Mastery - but I have to be fair and admit it's the only kind of MM I've played, and still only level 26 - but he's never been defeated since I rolled him.
Corruptor? I don't think you can really have a bad corruptor. The option to act like a blaster or a defender means that you can do both roles - just not as good as a blaster in the damage role, nor as good as the defender in the buff/debuff role. But, what you lack in those areas, you make up for by being able to fill both roles.
Brute? -- Kin melee/shield armor was the absolute worst experience I've ever had with a brute. To be fair, I didn't put as much time into his build as I should have. I deleted him at level 40. I loathe kin melee with it's stupid sounds and it's even more ridiculous animations.
Worst overall? Stone armor on a tank or brute. -
Quote:While that strategy would be ok for me - I am pretty sure that most of the folks I trial with would balk at the needless expense. I'm sure it's much easier - but most leagues wouldn't need to use ultimates for triple threat.Just wanted to say that all this strategy for both Triple threat and ready to rumble is moot if your entire team is packing Ultimate inspirations. It might not seem like it, but having everyone boosted to lvl 54, with lore pets, makes it much easier. On freedom we ran 9-10 minute Magi's and still manage to get Hard Way Badge. Get Av's down to 5% and have everyone pop an ultimate. you'll get it.
-
I can almost promise you that not only will chimera tp when he's at 1, 2 or 3 hp, Nega-Pendragon will likely get his shield up at about that time too.
The key is to dismiss pets at some point before your teams start to whittle the avs down. All pets.
Beat the avs down where each is at 20 hp. If an av or two is not at 20 hp while one is - you have the team whose av is at 20% simply stop hitting. MMs put pets on passive, waiting for the other two teams to catch up.
Then whittle them down to 10%. (the reason you stop at 20 the first time instead of 10 is that gives you time to use different channels to reach someone that may not be fully focused on stopping at 20%)
Then whittle them down to 5%, then 4%, on down to 1%.
Then have folks use judgements or any other method they have to take that last hp down asap before they get any wild ideas about porting or putting up another shield.
Divide your teams wisely. Ideally, you'll have at least one tank/brute, one debuff and one buff on each team. -
How is it hard to navigate?
Surely I'm not the only person that rolls a new character and heads to fbz for a 10,000 inf Raptor Pack! Cheap! 2 hours !
In the past 6 months, all my characters are getting super speed and combat jump and that raptor pack. So far, I've only needed just that one pack to last me until level 50 and beyond.
/bind <key> powexecname Raptor Pack
Just zip along with SS --see a large wall - no detours - press the bind key and fly above it and then press the key again to turn it off and keep zipping along.
With the new tunnel system taking you straight to fbz from atlas, (or redside if villain) it makes it even easier.
As for the content in that zone, aside from SSA 1.1, well, I can agree with you there. I think DFBs have made most of the content 1-15 pretty much obsolete. Heck, some stay in dfb until 22, when they can get SOs, and I guess I don't blame them too much. But, that's a topic that has already been hashed out with varying opinions.
However, don't forget the Synapse TF - where'd Synapse hang out if not there? -
When in the thief role, you'll need to monitor the trial UI to see how your teammates are progressing.
You'll need about 30 seconds to click on the vent, and then navigate to the vault.
Hopefully, your teammates will finish their part in time for you to do yours.
You can start before they finish! However, the less they've done when you click on the vent - the harder it will be to navigate.
It's like a little maze - a lot of blue vertical lines that act as a really rough slow patch if you try to go through them. (I thought it was my video card acting up at first)
Once you've done it once or twice, you think -"This is really too easy".
There is no "click glowie now". Just read the trial info pane. -
Quote:Anyone that would suggest that an IO blaster barely makes par is clearly playing with people who have no idea how to play a blaster.(Except blasters of course, IO'd blasters just barely make par).
Before this upcoming change to blasters, blasters were awesome in potential. The one weakness is a lack of mez protection. That is easily overcome by playing smart - and really - blasters are not totally mezzed because we can still attack with tier 1 and 2 attacks.
If you've played this game enough, look at some players builds and you ask yourself, how does this player do all that with that build? A blaster with just SOs can still play very well and with the right person behind that blaster, if you didn't look at the info, you'd never know whether they had IOs or not. A good player with a solid IO build is seriously going to outshine more than a few scrappers and brutes.
Granted, not every blaster is the same, nor is every player.
However, with dominators, I'm currently of the opinion that I feel sorry for all of them - but I base this on my own experience with my own dom. Elec/elec. Horribly poor pets -squishy, with a long recharge and weak damage. I haven't given up on the AT - but I have given up on those powersets used together. However, it could be that my play style just doesn't mesh with the strengths of elec/elec. That doesn't mean I think they should change anything. It just means the powersets aren't for me. -
Quote:I can verify and promise you that any character that switches alignment - if they hope to select an alignment merit (hero or villain) they will indeed need to do the extra 10 tips and morality to be able to select it.I'm fairly sure that you don't have to do that last part.
The requirement for getting alignment merits from the SSAs is that your most recently completed morality mission is a Hero one, which you satisfy while switching from Rogue to Hero.
I had rolled an elec/elec dom as a villain, brought it to blue side, and did my 10 tips and morality to become a hero. I was quite dismayed to learn that I would have to do another 10 and morality to "re-enforce" it. I'd sent a petition, thinking that coh was glitchy, but was told by support that it was WAI. -
Trust me - I'd heard that accolades were easier to get - but this toon that's making the trip now already has atlas, freedom phalanx, Geas and TFC.
Once it goes villain, I'll have the character do the necessary mission through ouros to get demonic, as 100 hellfrosts is a lot faster than 200 of this, and 200 of that.
I'd thought about getting the villain side equivalent of other accolades - but 1000? as opposed to 333? And all those ghastly mayhem missions? That's sheer torture. I finally got all the explorations and defeats on my badge toon - I promise you - I'll likely NEVER do those again. That's like fingernails on a chalkboard.
The actual mission component is fine - but I just don't get the whole "let's smash inanimate objects" mentality. Maybe the parking meters and payphones, at least there's some small change in that.
Fire Hydrants? Bus Stops? What on earth for?
As for me - I don't really enjoy the casual team - task forces to me are the best way to level up, get merits and finance a build. Synapse is an hour,(with vet players and mission tp, team tp, etc) and not the most fun, but it's the best way I know to get a few levels at that level range.
Still - good tips on things to handle while the toon is redside. -
Like any other trial, I suspect, if you form it, they will come.
Some folks like to complete it - like me. However, after a slew of really hard way runs, sometimes a farm is just what ya need to unwind. -
So, because my main was missing a lot of badges, I took him from the safe blue to the ugly red, with all the spiders and snakes that are just pretty creepy looking.
I decided that I like the idea of getting Scorpion Shield. Frozen Armor and Hoarfrost are great, but the flash freeze was so situational, I very rarely used it, although it was a good set mule.
I like the Scorpion shield because it gives protection for three types that are fairly common, and the other shields don't seem to provide as much. (I could have missed something, I suppose.)
Well, I'm bothered by this desire to have scorpion shield on other toons - because 1) I like to get my alignment merits. 2) I have my sg set up the way I like it, where I can drop salvage off quickly, grab insps, use empowerment stations and be off about my business.
I could blow a bunch on redside and make the same set-up - but it seems like a waste since I would only be there long enough to run 10 tips and a morality and to do the patron arc. And then I'd do some more tips until I got my hero alignment back.
I do realize that I could blow a bunch of points and switch to villain, and run the patron arc, and then blow some more points and switch back.
However, I suspect that I would still have to "re-enforce" my morality to get hero merits for running SSAs with those characters.
Hero to vig --- 10 tips + Morality
Vig to villain --- 10 Tips + Morality
Patron Arc -- a bunch of missions.
Villain to rogue -- 10 tips + Morality
Rogue to Hero --- 10 tips + Morality
Hero to hero ---10 tips + morality. (to reenforce for hero tips for SSAs)
Now, I understand that noone's putting a gun to my head. I guess what I'm wondering is -- blue side doesnt' have to jump through these silly hoops to get their epics. Why does red side?
Are the patron powers that much better? I've got the mace mastery on my blaster, and I do like the extra energy defense. But...55 missions, plus an arc? That just seems like a lot of fuss for something that should be readily available to anyone.
Am I off base? Is this just the way things are, and will never change because the players like having to do a patron arc instead of just choosing one the way blue side lets us?
Am I lazy? I guess I am - but tips are just really dull to me. It's like none of the bosses are different. They all seem so similar in style to me. But, I guess that's me digressing.
Think we could get them to change this? Or would I have better luck suggesting they not force my poor blasters into taking something lame like flash freeze just to get hoarfrost or Frozen Armor? The dropped the pre-reqs for power pools....
I know, next thing, I'll be asking to pick powers from more than one epic pool. Shame on me for thinking of such madness.
Still, though - how many of you do these 55 missions for all of your toons?
