  1. Oh, hey, Steelclaw made another post...

    Edit: First after Steelclaw!
  2. For me it was the Ghost Widow Patron arc. I was really behind her and wanted her to succeed and then was forced to betray her. I actually found myself apologizing to her out loud. It really, really bothered me to have to betray her.

Other than that some of the Praetorian arcs especially the one where you capture a drug shipment and then the Resistance wanted to use it to control another group. I said "Hell, no" and called the government.

    • Disintegration - When you are being disintegrated heal, it's that simple. there are 3 ticks of damage, just make sure you are at full health on the 3rd and final tick and you will live.
    • Obliteration Beam - very easy, look for the very large green patch on the ground and get the hell away from it, don't stand there in aww "What's this green stuff" or "Oh, that's pretty" Run away from it and continue fighting.
    • Finally, debuffs you will notice some players have red bubbles on them and some have blue. This is very easy to get around. Blue stay near Blue and Red stay near Red. Mix them up and you will be seriously debuffed in all aspects.
Learn to deal with these 3 things and the trial is very easy. I'm not saying it's going to be easy, but it will be fun doing it. So my hat is off to the devs on this trial I love it!
Except with everyone attacking AM, you can't see the large green patch on the ground, nor can you really see what color aura everyone has because of all the effects. If you stand away from AM it's a lot more obvious, but if you are a melee toon, you aren't going to be standing around from your target much.
  4. I think it would be helpful to have a breakdown of all the different effects going on.

First the Pulse is this a limited range AoE attack from AM, or is it zone wide?

Entanglement, from what I could see separates the players into red and blue colors. Similar colors are safe, different colors damage each other.

But the hold thing? Is that part of Obliteration?
  5. I was running my WP/SS tank last night on my first ever try at Keyes. I died lots of times, but it was still more fun than Lambda.

I have to say that I was one who bitterly complained about Lambda being too hard, etc. This time I'm going to let folks work out the tactics needed. Last several times I did Lambda I did fine, even with a toon that wasn't +3.

However I might comment that I was confused most of the time as to what needed doing and where, until I realized that the map can show which reactor is which. Also first run, so I assumed I would have a certain amount of confusion.

But at the end, Obliteration, Alpha/Beta Entanglement? Suddenly being group held? Still not sure what was going on.

I did notice at one point I had a message that I was being targeted for Obliteration and backed up. At my feet was a big green reticle. I was then held. If I had been near others I'm sure they would have been held too. The problem is with all the power effects going on you really can't see what color entangled you are or if the big green reticle is present. If you have only one target and even a few melee toons, things will get pretty messy visually speaking.

Also annoying was dying and then hitting the hospital where I rezzed, and then became held again. What? Obviously a bug, but still...

For the most part I'm reserving judgement until I get a few more runs under my belt.

Yeah, I know. Taunt is a valuable tool for Tanks. In my example, the Brute had to step in and tank Recluse. I was the poor Emp defender trying to keep folks alive.

Some tasks pretty much call for a mix or certain ATs to be included so that you don't get stuck in the mud.

I recently joined an LGTF on a brute to find that there were about 3 other brutes on staff, a tanker, 2 scrappers and I believe a corruptor. I looked around for the controller/dominator, didn't find one, and asked if there were plans to get one or someone alting out to grab one. No such plans existed. At that point, I knew that this wasn't the TF for me, because I knew I would not enjoy the additional time spent on the mito mission. So it may not be your cup of tea, but it is shortsighted to just call the leader poor because he is looking for something to balance things out or make things easier.

I have different alts I can change to because I enjoy flexibility. Sometimes in this game, things move smoother and in a more timely manner because of the ability to alt out.

On the flipside, sure, I enjoy doing a good all scrapper ITF or all defender/corruptor Apex as much as the next person. But when I create such SF teams, I make sure every person that joins knows beforehand that there will be only that one AT or mix of ATs on the team, so come with the expectation that things may be more difficult or take more time than if we were taking on any AT available.
Granted the LGTF is a special case where you need a well balanced team. But the original post was about the ITF, which does not really have the same requirements at all. I've been on plenty of ITFs where either I or someone else was the second tank. No one said anything about it.

I've not really noticed this at all. I agree that there is a bit of a conflict between Brutes and Tanks.

But yeah, I can see where one could have the sentiment that, well, we already have one tank, why do we need another, unless the first tank doesn't know how to tank, didn't take taunt (because taunt is for losers), is a tool, and somehow expects to tank Recluse... But I digress.
  9. Freeps makes the most sense.

However, I plan on re-activating my second account as free to play. I'd let it drop because of the extra expense. This is a perfect way for me to bring it back, because sometimes you just want the convenience of 2 accounts.

Since I'm already established (1 level 50) on that account, I'm no means a noob. Should there be a reference for seasoned players going free to play as opposed to the new folks?

Why this is not on the Brute section I'm not sure...

  13. In my opinion you are taking some of your resistances rather late, namely resist phys. damage, resist energies and resist elements.

I always slot the hell out of physical perfection, 3 end mod and 3 heal. I found after playing around with Mids that 2 Numina and one Heal IO gives better regen than 3 Numina; assuming I was reading the numbers correctly. I would consider your Dull Pain way over slotted.

I also take Cardiac Alpha for the end reduction and the extra dam. res. Since Invulnerability is based around dam. res, it helps to get some extra. I'm thinking you might have some endurance issues, especially if you are running Hasten and Focused Accuracy, which is a huge end hog. Haymaker alone can drain huge amounts of your endurance. Plus you only have 2 slots in Stamina. Looks like you are going for a build with quick recharge for some reason. You will be sucking wind in no time which will negate any extra recharge you might get. Doesn't matter if your powers recharge quick if you have no endurance to use them.

In my opinion Cardiac is the best choice for Invuln/SS.

I tend to go with Crushing Impact and Scirocco's Dervish in my attacks to get the extra recharge and accuracy. Thus I don't really need Hasten or Focused Accuracy as much. It also gives me psi defense/resist as well, which is a hole for the set. For similar reasons I always put Luck of the Gambler in all my defense powers. 4, +7.5% recharge rates is nice plus the set bonuses boosts hit points and regen making Spiritual less of a necessity. However I can see you made your attack IO choices to boost defense and given the focus of the build I can't fault that.

I understand that this is a build focusing on defense boosts, so I won't comment much on your IO choices, except I'd much rather have Luck of the Gambler over Red Fortune, although I can see that you were going for the extra ranged defense. But in my mind your defense powers are over slotted.

This turned out to be a very bad idea.

I had been having trouble lately working up interest in playing CoH because of how huge and clunky the tournament had become. Oh, I love the scoring system and most of my characters but the lack of low level players to team with and the existence of my defenders, controllers and such on low-population servers was a bit of a drag.

So, I started considering how to revitalize the game for myself. An idea occurred to me... a lovely, beautiful... lethally poisonous idea... Why not consolidate all my heroes on Freedom and all my villains on Virtue? The population of those servers would make teaming a bit easier after all. And another, equally deadly, idea came to me... I have two accounts... the second account I had only really been using to sign my "teamed" characters into their respective SG/VGs. Why not have two-man teams? One on each account and that way these Dynamic Duos can compete against one another in a NEW tournament?!

So... through no fault of the Devs at all... I have trash-canned my old tournament and am starting a new one. I am deleting all my characters, including the 42nd level Steelclaw main who was SO close to 50.

    >>Sighs<<

And before you ask, no... you can't have my stuff... I'm selling it all on the market and dividing up the proceeds among all my new teams.
I've been playing for a long time and normally have all my heroes on Freedom and all my villains on Virtue. So... good plan!
  15. Fingers! We must have fingers!!!1!!!111!!!11
  16. Hands down, Cardiac is the best Alpha boost for Invul. It allows you to keep on attacking when before you had to pace yourself. Plus it gives you a boost in the main area that Invul shines which is dam res.

I'm sorry, but Spiritual, in my opinion is wasted for invul. If you are relying on regen as an invul. tanker then you are doing something wrong.

Now the next step is choosing your next slots.
  17. Resilience helps you when you use a wakie to not be stunned for so long. Plus it gives extra damage resistance which is the only dam res the set gets. So take it and three slot it for dam res, maybe the steadfast one.

    Tablet Support?

I think it is entirely possible. Samurai Vengeance shows that on-screen controls work. I envision a control for movement and then just tapping the icons in the power tray to activate them. Same with taping a teammate to select them.
  19. The dark/regen was missing half the attacks. No Shadow Maul? This is a key power of the set.

I have to agree. Calling a trial account F2P isn't going to change anything.

However with the way CoH is set up I'm not certain that normal restriction can be set up to make it possible to run a F2P model like Turbine does. You would have to restrict teaming, paper/radio missions, AE missions and restructure how you get XP. With Turbine most of the XP is received when you turn in the finished Quest. With CoH, most of the XP is gained during the mission. The mission end bonus is not as major compared with other games. Zones would have to be restricted based on level and whether or not you purchased the zone. I wouldn't want to play with a F2P person who couldn't have access to Talos Island, for example, while I, being a VIP with a paid account have no access. Sure someone may have purchased Talos Island, but couldn't run Citadel unless they also purchased Dark Astoria.

Since we can go pretty much everywhere from anywhere there is no normal terrain gates leading from beginner zone to intermediate, etc.

While I like how Turbine has been able to transition from paid to F2P, I'm not convinced this game can make a similar transition. Turbine's transition was easy and blended well with how the game already operated. Too many things would have to be changed in CoH to make it work in my opinion.
  22. If you are having any sort of endurance issues, get Cardiac. That will help you more by letting you attack more and boost your DPS which may outweigh the extra damage per attack from Musculature.
  23. The taunt aura should come sooner in my opinion. Does Heat Sump res to slow help with the -spd component of Massive Density and Gravity Well?

Lose all of your endurance with Warp Reality? After playing an Invuln. tanker and respecing out of Unstoppable. I'm not eager to see a set with similar mechanics. Please consider not making it lose all endurance.

Over all, not bad. Don't like the -speed component, but it's got to have some balance to it. I'd definitely consider running this set.

Hazard zones? Used to have a level to enter, now - no.
COV? Used to be a separate "game," now - no.

Suddenly reintroducing "Oh, your (subbed) friends can SK each other and team that level 8 with the level 32 and the level 15 to go beat on some Rikti with the level 45... but guess what, you can't, pay up!" wouldn't go over so well with *either* side (free or subbed,) I'd think.
You make a very good point. And with radio/newspaper missions, not to mention AE content, you can get by just fine with little to no real content. Unless F2P means you have no access to AE content and/or radio/newspaper missions unless you are a VIP (i.e. a normal subscription paying member). Then it would be easy to lock out contacts.

Then again since you can join anyone's team and get xp, that blows that out of the water, especially since the bulk of the xp really isn't tied to mission end bonuses like other games.

The point I'm trying to make is that F2P is a good business model that can make money for some games. I hear LOTRO is making lots more money now. To say that F2P automatically means that all games will fail is just wrong. I can see where this game would have challenges with a F2P system given the game and teaming mechanics already in play. And it is those teaming and mission mechanics that make this such a great game.
  25. First the other super hero MMO that converted to F2P doesn't count as the game sucked anyway. Going F2P wouldn't help it.

The other games (won't mention names, but initials are DDO & LOTRO) are doing better and making more money after going F2P.

Look at it this way. If CoH went F2P based on the DDO model, not much would change for those already subscribed. They would just play as normal. However it would make the game a lot more accessible to those who wouldn't otherwise try the game because they didn't want to pay $15/month. Plus the new players would need to pay to get access to higher level zones, extra character slots, maybe extra costume slots, etc, plus booster packs. Those who already are subscribed would be getting NCSoft points, Hero coin, or whatever the currency is per month for being VIP members.

I'm thinking the only difference would be a greater influx of players that would mean more cash for the developers.

This of course would not be what is now a trial account. It would be a normal account with zone/content restrictions like how the games from Turbine are run.

I also play the game based on Tolkien's trilogy and have a lifetime membership. When they went F2P nothing really changed except that I got access to some cool things I didn't have before like being able to buy horse riding skill early. I also get 500 turbine points a month just for being a VIP member.

Now assuming it's based on the Turbine model I could see going F2P being great for CoH. More people willing to try out the game without the burden of paying $15/month, while those already subscribed would still be playing normally.
