Not to mention the fact that the game is offending (and believe it or not this is harder to do than most think) male and female gamers with its "less armor is better" approach to the characters. Again, why trust a game that is having people complain in its launch territories and, again, focuses on a niche player demographic?

    ...
I only have a minor quibble with the statement I highlighted.
There is a difference between less armor and less clothing. I have many characters on CoH that are unarmored, but are fully clothed. Blade & Soul is not so much "less armor" as it is "less clothing" or, to put it more succinctly, "more bare skin".

Yes, I know. Its a technical quibble. But, I just wanted to point that out.

I'm not out for NCSoft blood. I just want to warn people what they might be getting into by investing their time and money into an NCSoft product. NCSoft has shown that they can not be trusted.

I also want NCSoft to figure out that they have done much harm to the community here. We want NCSoft to acknowledge what they have done. Sometimes, when talking doesn't seem to get the person's attention, speaking louder might. If that doesn't work, then a tap to the shoulder. If that doesn't work. You might have to use a 2x4. In this case, the 2x4 is our wallets. If you wish to enable NCSoft to continue to do business as usual, that is your prerogative. We would like for them to actually become a company that actually cares about its customers and not just the almighty dollar (or what ever currency they worship over there). You know, a company like Paragon Studios was before they were suddenly closed down without notice.

As for "focusing my energy on Plan Z", I do not have the programming skills, I do have programming skills (rusty as they may be), to be a meaningful contributor to the efforts of coding whatever they are doing for Plan Z. Therefore, wherever else I focus my energy will be better than getting in the way of the guys that are doing something about Plan Z.

Which, right now, is warning people about NCSoft's penchant for closing down games that are doing well. But, just aren't in line with the company's "redirected focus" of less family friendly Asian grind-fests. And you can't tell me that Blade and Soul is not less family friendly than CoH.

Unfortunately the flap did nothing to mitigate the observed fact that every now and then, [especially] "name"-EBs have to ability to hit right through Phase.

I respec'ed out ofPhase shortly afterward, due to its hit-or-miss nature, but still.

Then there were the several huuuuuuuuuuge flamewars over the merits or lack thereof, of kinetics people slamming everyone they saw, every where they were, with SB. Doin' a respec? *BAM!* At the Black Market? *WHAM!* Sorting out enhancements? *SHAZAAM!* Waiting for everyone to zone so we can start the TF? *WHAM! *BAM!* *SLAM! *ALA-KAZAAM!* It simply never stopped.

Not everyone liked that, and kins were very entitled as to their right to do this and they were hella snarky about it. Luckily this is no longer an issue, but just sayin' - this community has its share of unpleasantness, its hardly a band of angels and I dont kid myself that it is.
I remember back when Enhancement Diversification was implemented. I believe that was the biggest divide in the community since the games inception. Many were the name callings on both sides.

However, in my experience, what was the worst for these forums, was just a little more than par for most others that I have seen.

you are correct, this community does have its share of unpleasantness. It just happens to be a smaller share in comparison. No, we are not a band of angels. I don't think anyone has said that we were. Just that we were less abrasive than most of the other gaming forums out there.

Ask yourself this: If the "community" here on the boards was so frickin welcoming - why is it that 90% of an ONLINE game's community never bothered to register and/or post here? I can answer that for you if you would like... The forums are basically a form of pvp that many people could not stomach. I have visited other forums and they are just as rude as these, they also have a community, they have their romances, they have their children with needs who have been helped by the game, and they have their unicorns assuming people are kids and shelling out unsolicited profiling by ill equipped wanna bes. CoH is not special in it's playerbase or in it's community - it has some helpful people, some morons, and everything in between. It is just another game community.

Like I said: Keep your dime store psychology to yourself... because you have no clue about me, my intentions, or what CoH was to me
I peruse the forums of every MMO I play, and I play quite a few. Most of them have been far worse than CoH's Forums.

Yes, there were rude posters here on CoH. However, there were a lot more people that actually posted helpful information in a polite manner than the ones that posted lolzrude comments.

Also, the Community Rep team went from from the extremes of super lax to ban hammer happy before settling on a reasonable middle ground.

Each community is different. Mainly because of a combination of the players and the CR team. This game happened to have an excellent CR team for the last few years and the community is outstanding, compared to the other forums that I read.

Also, every time you post, you give away clues about yourself. So, yes, we do have a clue about you, your intentions, and what CoH means to you.

Because they're not under the awesome care of the design team that is Paragon Studios.

I have a level 21 character on CO. I don't block very often. I do, however, use the terrain to my advantage when I can. Yes, I do face-plant. But, usually only against the "boss" fights. Or when I'm stupid and aggro too much to handle.

As for the heals in the game, I picked up my first (and only, so far) heal at level 17, or there about. Not very helpful in the single digit levels...

Actually, most of the really great stuff that's happened in the last (what, 5 years?) was not done by Cryptic's "professional" programmers. In fact, the Paragon Studios' Programmers bypassed a lot of the Cryptic's programmer's code in order to do stuff that Cryptic was unable to do.

My personal opinion is that the Cryptic programmers are the amateurs, and the PS programmers are the professionals.

I've had people I ticked off dig thru thousands of my posts to find something to insult me about. They've dredged things I posted in 05-06 as if I'm going to care about something said in a 4, 5, 6 year old thread.

Oh and I miss the comments I used to get in the Rep system because I had my Rep disabled. Some people were livid when they saw they couldn't get any satisfaction watching my rep drop from neg repping me.

The only time I've ever reported a nasty message was when some bigot used the "N" word or anti-gay crap. We didn't need rascists/bigots in our community.
I always thought you were an informative and amusing dissemination of information, Forbin. Of course, I was never the focus of any of your more "witty" posts. So, that might have something to do with it.

I remember getting neg repped by accident once. The person apologized right afterwards in a PM too. I told them that I wasn't really concerned about it since I didn't really consider the Rep system all that important. They were nice enough to pos rep me later.

Oh, and racists only has 2 "s"'s.

It would imply they were pretending to grant full support to Paragon for new development while they knew such support was false and guaranteed to be unsustainable.

The alternative is "exhausted" means they thought about all the options and decided not to actually engage any of them.
Well, some people get exhausted just thinking, so that might very well be it. They thought about selling the IP then took a nap because the process of thinking was exhausting.

I need to get my voice activation profiles up to date for that game and dust it off again.
  18. Way back in the dark ages of the Internet, I was on a service called the Imagination Network (INN for those in the know). One of the groups I was a part of on INN was called The Trivia Group (or TTG). We had a standing rule. Speeling don't kownt. Mainly that was because you had 20 seconds to come up with an answer to a question over a 14.4k modem. Which, roughly relates to about 5 second to answer the question before time ran out. I actually started out on a 1200 baud modem. So, I was at a disadvantage there.

This is why I rarely will ever correct someone's spelling online. No matter how much it really irks me when they use 1337 or what not.

Now, you can get back to you regularly scheduled raging over grammar.

They feed us some half-***** excuse of realigning the company, then we have two weeks of silence. Leaving us to speculate the reasons as one by one, the game starts being dismantled. They take our subs then pull the rug leaving us in the dark with no idea of what we will get in recompense for unpaid time and unused market points. They pull the game from the site and treat it as if it never existed. They have clearly shown they aren't interested in doing anything but stick their heads up their own arses and hope we disappear, which in three months we will.

They underestimate us, they think we will all crawl away as our characters and community die from apathy. They were wrong, the community has stood up and stood up politely thanks to the fantastic and highly appreciated efforts of Tony and his team. I check the forum each day for news, hoping to see not just progress, but some hint someone in their shiny Korean money pit is listening to us from an ocean away.

So what do we get for being nice? Silence. Players loyal for almost a decade shunned. New players with keen eyes waiting to see their universe get ignored. Players who made the mistake of believing a gaming company out there could actually not be as evil and greedy as the hacks at EA and Activision find themselves once again betrayed. The entire community destroyed in an act of mismanagement and incompetence as someone decides to screw around with the company and ends up trashing us like it will be some sort of band-aid.

Well, if they want to ignore us then let them choke on the fumes of their own arses. The suits at NCSoft deserve every amount of distrust, every stinging word in every jibe and every embarrassment of every photoshop we can create and thrust in their faces. If two weeks of being nice gets us ignored, why the hell should we care. Just let them sit there and piss about like we don't exist? These last two weeks should have been used to salvage something from this crisis, to regain our trust as customers. Guess what, they don't give two bollocks.

"But we must be nice! We must be mature and reasonable and throw flowers and ponies at them so they give us something back." Two whole weeks, an entire storm whipped up in the gaming press and not a single word? If they gave a toss they would have said something by now.

So go on NCSOFT, say something. Give us a word. Give us some idea that you actually are listening and being polite to you is doing something because right now, it sure as hell doesn't look like it is working.

Eight years loyalty and a genuine belief that you'd do the right thing trashed and thrown in the bin. You betrayed Paragon Studio, you betrayed the playerbase and you betrayed everyone who has ever touched your game. You even have the cheek to (inadvertantly and quite poetically) shove BS in our face with your shiny new Blade and Soul toy.

Well I hope you choke on it, you aren't worth defending and you sure as toss don't care about one single player who logged into COH or the people who created it. So take a hike NCSoft and take your entire portfolio with you, you know just where you can put it.

And this is the censored version......
The only thing I will say is a quote from Road House. (edited for the enjoyment of minors)

"Dalton: If somebody gets in your face and calls you a [censored], I want you to be nice. Ask him to walk. Be nice. If he won't walk, walk him. But be nice. If you can't walk him, one of the others will help you, and you'll both be nice. I want you to remember that it's a job. It's nothing personal. I want you to be nice until it's time to not be nice."

Right now is not the time to not be nice.

Also, my family motto states "While I breathe, I hope." Something to keep in mind when you start to feel disheartened.
