same problem here, i can log in fine (no patch applied or downloaded) but the servers all say unavailable when i try to connect....... some genius didn't fully test this patch to the servers.
  2. ummmmmmm, you're talking about comics characters? just about all of them have died and come back......... really, you could choose whoever you wanted and i'd wager money someone would find an obscure issue where they died.

but, in the vein you're looking for, i do believe Tombstone died and came back, that may have been retconned, never really followed him or anything, just remember what i think was his first appearance (well his first stint in someone elses book).
  3. i must wholeheartedly disagree, if you'll notice, there are NEVER any children running around the streets of ANY area. one must assume that all three locals keep the youngsters in school everyday of the year until they are in their early twenties or so, as that is the youngest age any pedestrian ever appears to be. but this kind of oppressive societal pressure causes undue emotional damage, causing them to be completely moronic when confronted by anything other then academia.

    same result, different impetus.
  4. OH THANK DEITY!!!!!!!

i thought i was the only one who liked it for what it was (based on box office, i might have been). i would like to add that though i LOVE Gaiman, i thought the book version of this was...... well, weak, like a primer for high fantasy for newbies or something. very much chock full of overused cliche fantasy norms and concepts. but the movie occupies a completely different "space" and now sits next to the princess bride on the top shelf of my movie bookshelf (i organize by how much i like em, drives the wifey batsh!t crazy ).

DeNiro was great! Pfieffer was awesome! and the tone was perfect, absolutely the right amount of tongue-in-cheek.

and add me to the petition to get Good Omens made into a movie, one of the best damn books ever written!!!!!!!!
  5. i have nothing of import to add, BUT i will be pirating your build for my KM/EA who's on the cusp of leaving praetoria now. thanks for the hassle free gameplan

Never got a Mastermind past 20.

    Suggestions?

honestly, a scrapper or brute. they are the most self sufficient of all the AT's. you can solo a tank all the way up, but it's hard work, i've done it, it takes FOREVER! a blaster will kill quicker, and die a TON, this frustrates me to no end, so i don't play them. a defender or corrupter will work, safer then blaster but slow going sometimes. a troller can be great if you can suffer thru the lower levels without giving up. Stalkers may actually top the list though, they have a very solo oriented playstyle to start with, and most of the folks i know who have a 50 stalker spent most of the time getting there solo. i'm working on doms now, but they are squishy, fun to play but may die too much for my tastes. i don't play MM's as i can't stand the play style of "hey AI pets, go kill stuff!!!!"

the -def will help more blasts hit, but /rad is not the massive 1 shotter (actually no defender will ever be a massive 1 shotter), BUT, with it's quick animation times, quick recharge and the right primary, you can lay waste with a good /rad, the tons of AOE helps.

rad/rad is safe, a relative ton of damage solo (AM gives you a 25% dam boost, the inherent now gives you a 30% dam boost when solo after lvl 20, and you get assault for roughly 20% more damage boost......75% damage boost before you ever apply enervating field and reduce their res) with all of rad/'s utility it's quite safe. baddies can't hit you, and their def is in the tank, their damage is debuffed, and so is their res, they get slowed, -rech, -regen, and choking cloud is FUN! this is a great defender, hands down!

Kin/Rad is a horse of another color, i have one of these as well, and it's COMPLETELY different in plat style. This combo is known as the "scrapfender" for a reason. you'll be in melee range for most of kin/, and you'll have the least amount of mitigation on both primary and secondary, BUT your attacks and buff/debuff will hit almost always. your damage can get higher then with rad/rad, but that's with Kin and it's melee range damage boosters that draw aggro better then any tank i've ever played this is a great def to play, hectic, adrenalin fueled, psychotic fun. but you'll die alot, come close to dieing almost every mish, and probably giggle out loud the whole time, i know i do

so in summation, either works, for your first rad i would go rad/rad, you WON'T be sorry, i've never heard anyone complain about a rad/rad, either playing one or teaming with one.
but let us know which way you go and how it's working out for you.

AHA!!!!!! that's where i know him from, i collect the Invincible ultimate collection books.... at the end of one of them is a short with those guys fighting doc seismic... i knew he was familiar

and Invincible NEEDS an animated series/movie..... just sayin'
  9. so i really want to build a elec/something corr, tech oriented, kinda like a power suit or gadgets thing, and not sure what secondary to go with.... and on top of that i didn't see ANY elec/* guides at all in the guides section.

anyone make an elec/* into a decent corr? doesn't have to be uber powerful munchkin build or anything, just solo'able.

oh, and i'm kind of a "theme geek", and since this is tech based.... no /storm or /dark, as i can't see those as tech based at all..... i know, i hobble myself with these stupid restrictions, but it's my neurosis, and i like 'em

Ultra Mode, max level on everything....

i have an HP 17.5 laptop, 8gb RAM with a Geforce GT 230M with a dedicated gb of ram itself.
500gb solid state drive, and an I7 processor. the thing screams, CoH's ultra mode is a cake walk for this box, and it only cost me 1100, gotta love microcenter!

    Firebreather

i really enjoyed it (well the first two thirds, i stopped it after that and went to bed, but i'll finish it tonight).

was this JUST a one shot movie, or are they planning a series of this character? i would LOVE a series.... all the super stuff keeps getting canned (hope the avengers and young justice buck that trend). like, what ever happened to wolverine and the xmen, and the spectacular spiderman? not to mention Legion of super heroes. seems like these things have a 2 season shelf life then go bye bye this makes me a sad panda....

i'll disagree with half of what Zikar says, Laptops work fine as long as they are media/game focused. cheap won't cut it though, sorry. i've played my entire COH career on laptops, but they have dedicated video cards and higher amounts of ram.

if you need anew box, laptop or PC, i would recommend hitting the Microcenter or Tigerdirect websites right after Christmas, you'll get good deals, especially this year. got a friend who works at Microcenter, looks like sales are well down for this time of year and they have to slash prices to move overstock come the 26th. but look for dedicated video cards, even a 512mb dedicated, with enough system ram will perform admirably.
  13. to me the tier's were never based on power level, but more on popularity. and since i've always been a fan of the second stringers, or underdogs, these are my kinda supes!

DC notably has Captain Atom (one of my all time fav's), Captain Marvel(shazam), Booster Gold, Blue Beetle (i LOVE the new powered armor version). Martian Manhunter USED to be, but he eventually became tier one, along with Green Lantern, both of these guys were DEFINITELY second tier when i was a kid, i'm actually really psyched that good old GL has finally gotten the due he deserved.

Marvel has Nova, who has had a serious resurgence recently with the focus on cosmic stuff that marvel has been doing (yay cosmic stuff!!!!), based strictly on popularity Silver Surfer was a second tier for a very long time regardless of his power levels, but like GL he has changed tiers with generations. Nightcrawler is a perfect example, much loved and underused. the Inhumans and the Eternals were always a fav as well, and Moonknight, but he could arguably be 3rd or 4th tier. but to dig ALL THE WAY to the bottom of the tier list for Marvel to find one of my all time fav's, we have to go to Squadron Supreme (a second tier title if there ever was one) and go with their second/third tier with the ALL POWERFUL "THERMITE"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BOW BEFORE THE POWER OF THERMITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. so, here's my take. this game (like almost every other mmo ever made) was created with teaming in mind. but to the dev's credit they put quite a bit of work into making this game solo friendly. when the game started, teaming was where it was at, it was the accepted mmo routine, and just about everyone fell into the pattern right away. but as this game aged, and the community dwindled, the holdovers tend to be solo'ers and dedicated groupers (those that have a group that they play with regularly), changing the dynamic of the game. the devs have added a nice update to the game with GR, and the population will definitely change for a bit, but when the shininess wears off, it will basically be the same players who kept this game going for the last 3 or 4 years, alot of which solo. so i believe that the mechanics can be tweaked a bit to accommodate without altering game play too much. the continuation of this game depends on the long term customer, keep them happy, they keep paying and playing.

i don't think making every buff power a full effect self buff would be the answer, numerous number crunchers have already pointed out why, but i DO think a lower percentage self buff aspect to team buff powers would be WONDERFULLY helpful. there are a couple of sets i would LOVE to play, but as i solo most of the time, i haven't been able to play them to any length. Force Field, Sonic Resonance, to a lesser degree Empathy, thermal and yadda yadda yadda. now i would love to be able to play these more, but until there is more personal utility in them.....

so in short, i don't think a self buff aspect to the team buff powers would be bad, i agree to a lesser effect then the team buff, that would be fine, but SOMETHING for gods sake. Sonic Resonance is one of my favorite power sets conceptionally, and it has 2 or 3 solo powers in the whole set, that's just not "bang for your buck" when choosing power sets.

...The only issue is Psi damage, which is pretty common end-game....but that's what insps are for anyway.

    I have a 50 Spines/Fire Scrap, 50 Elec/Fire Scrap (Burn > Shield Charge), 36 Fire/EM Tank, 50 Fire/SS Tank and 27 Claws/Fire Scrap.

    I need to make a broot....suggestions anyone?
stone/fire is AWESOME..... but the end usage is rough..... really really rough, but it's worth it for the smashtastic fun.

dark/fire is amazingly survivable for a /fire, 2 heals, 2 end drains, 2 "power boosts", tons of damage, and mitigation from the primary really helps. this is one of the best brute combos i've ever played unslotted(non-sets). you start to purp this thing and it will be mindblowing.

No amount of mitigation from a primary will help in this situation. IMO I fight only Fire damage mobs, my Fire res is 90%, so no oranges, and I sit and 3 into 1 purps whenever not spamming AoEs, so I always have 35% plus def running as well. I take limited damage, and it goes very smoothly.

wow................ well THAT sounds like fun.......

    FA protection

it also matters as to what primary you're going to use.
something with a lot of mitigation, and it's less important to squeeze out every last drop of defense. Dark Melee works wonderfully............ i mean WONDERFULLY. two self heals, two end drains, two power boosts, a self rez, extra dam from FA, and added mitigation from -ToHit, can't go wrong.

but say you were going something like electric melee, then, probably +def and then recharge.

but tankiness is not what you should be using FA for, killiness is (i know they aren't real words, but we're talking about superheroes here). dude, you haven't experienced this game yet until you stand in the middle of a mob with blazing aura going and drop a burn patch with your fury near max....... it makes you all tingly in your naughty parts!

edit, i spelled fury "furry", which is inexcusable! NEVER drop a burn patch when you have a furry, they get all singed.
  20. AHA, well that goes to show how much attention i pay to these things

Thanks all........ now OFF TO THE TAILOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. ok, so i bought most of the origin packs, and had some thoughts on how to eventually use the science pack's "super costume creator" where you can change body size..... BUT, after a couple of new toons i finally got around to tweaking some old ones, and lo and behold, no option for changing body type on my old toons. is this WAI? i thought the body type change was universal for my account.... i have an old toon i love, but i got creative on the proportions early on in my COH career, and now seriously regret it, i NEED to be able to change this, any help?
  22. so funny, when i finally married my wife (on our 12 year anniversary) we got a quickie marriage done at the courthouse (we got married for health insurance reasons), and she was wearing her glow in the dark "come to the dark side, we have cookies" t-shirt. any time i see some one else reference that phrase i giggle uncontrollably.
  23. LETS HEAR IT FOR GM GODFREY!!!!!!! HE'S THE BEST!!!!!

ok, there is no GM Godfrey, well as far as i know, but i felt left out and wanted to join the fun.........
