If a spot opens up I would be interested. Have a number of toons which need the shiny.

Thanks for the advice all. I found tabbing past the game and then on around to it again to work. I then changed the Properties on any Application file in the CoH folder and now I can freely tab in and out of the game.
Thanks for the help. -
Hi All,
I am running Vista 32-bit and I updated my GTS250 to the latest drivers (258.96) last night. I general the new drivers seem more stable than my old drivers (196.21). I have discovered one annoying feature. Everytime I Alt+Tab out of CoH and then Alt+Tab back in the Screen freezes. It basically looks like a screenshot. I figure the screen isn't updating anymore but is stuck displaying the last image it had when I Alt+Tabbed out. I can fix this by Alt+Tabbing out of CoH and then back in again. I have searched around and I don't see any settings that are different from before. Anyone have an idea what might be causing this?
Interesting side note, when the screen is frozen the game is definately running because I can hear sound effects and if I use the movement keys I will be standing in a different position when I get the screen working again.
This can be a bit annoying if I am frequently switching programs looking up data on the Wiki, checking a Mid's build, adjusting Ventrillo settings, etc. Thank you in advance for your assistance. -
I am available and need the MoKTF badge on a Blaster, Warshade, Kin Troller, Rad Troller - take your pick
@Tommy Truestar -
I am available. Will bring my Blaster but can switch if needed.

The proc has a chance to affect you every time you summon the pet. The proc has a chance of affecting the pet every time it attacks. (not sure if the proc has a chance of affecting the pet when it uses a non combat power like heals, bubbles, etc.).
Pets that attack quickly (imps) or have AoE attacks (assault bot) can get the proc to fire frequently. -
Thanks for the suggestions Twilight. I like the use of the Hami's in Integration and Weave, especially since I don't really need the +HP bonuses. I also got a little more Melee defense by going with an extra set of obliterations in Quills.

Been trying to update the build for Phantom Phantastic, my Spine/Regen Scrapper from a static team I played a while ago. I never really completed an end game build for him. I figured I would go for Recharge and some Defense. I mainly want to see if I can give him some decent suvivability and AoE damage capabilities. I was able to get 60% recharge + Hasten 70% (130% recharge total) and 29.1% Melee defense (was hoping to get to 30% but this is pretty close).
If you see any glaring errors or improvements I would appreciate any advice you can offer.

Thanks for including me last week slacker. The MoITF went really smooth. For the MoSTF I plan to bring my Nrg/Nrg Blaster, which participated in the successful MoITF.

Greetings,
I logged in today, played for about 20 minutes and my system crashed. The screen would freeze, get distorted with strange colors, and the sound would loop. Only way to get past this is to turn off the power. Now everytime I select a toon the game crashes on the loading screen. I can play Dawn of War for 5 to 10 minutes before I get the same crash.
I was using Nvidia 190.62 drivers when I first crashed. Upgraded to 196.21 and I still get the crashes.
Computer is a little less than 2 years old:
Name: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8500 @ 3.16GHz
Caption: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT Adapter RAM: 512MB
4 GB RAM
I tried CoH Helper but got an error message. "Unhandled exception has occurred...."!", hexadecimal value 0x19, is an invalid character. Line 7, position 25519.

I suggest using Super Speed as your travel power. Super Speed has a stealth component when combined with Mask Presence will give you full invisibility. Normal mobs can still see you with only Mask Presence.
-
I believe the poster was referring to Practiced Brawler. To make a click power "perma" is to have it recharge faster than the effect wears off. Practiced Brawler has a duration of 120 seconds. If you put in enough recharges enhancements (usually two or only one if you have lots of global recharge) you can get the recharge time to less than 120 seconds. This way you will never be without the Mez protection from Practiced Brawler.
On my SR toons I put Practiced Brawler on auto (CRTL+click) so I don't have to keep clicking it. -
Hiya Sparky, I went for capped HP and as much SM/L defense as I could get on my WP/Axe tank. 40.7% SM/L is as much as I could get without dropping below the HP cap.
-
Hiya, I have a Elec/Elec brute but I am going for HP and Recharge. You were able to pack quite a bit of S/L defense into the build for a secondary that comes with zero to begin with.
I would suggest slotting Energize with doctored wounds (leave out the Heal/End) and you max out the recharge and get good heal to go with the +5% recharge.
Weave seems under-slotted. I would take one slot out of Power Surge and put three Luck of the Gambler (Proc, Def/End, Def/End/Rech) in there for the bonuses. Gives you another 1% of defense too. The third recharge in Power Surge only gave you an extra 15 seconds of recharge anyway.
You might try doing the same thing with Maneouvers but not sure where you would get the extra slot from.
Overall, pretty decent build. Good job getting all that defense in there. -
Your bind is backwards. The bind checks from right to left so you need your quantum/void binds to the right side.
Try something like this:
/bind t "target_enemy_next$$target_custom_next cyst$$target_custom_next quantum$$target_custom_next void"
If you want to avoid targeting dead quantums and voids try this:
/bind t "target_enemy_next$$target_custom_next enemy alive cyst$$target_custom_next enemy alive quantum$$target_custom_next enemy alive void" -
I see nobody has replied so I will give you advice on some of the lessons I learned levelling my WP/Axe tanker to 50. WP has nice layered defenses (defense, resist, regen) and Axe has good mitigation in that every attack has knock down or knock up.
I would suggest downloading Mid's Hero Designer. It is much easier to share and plan your build with this excellent tool.
For protection there are two main routes WP players follow. First is to increase your Hit Points (shoot for the tank HP cap). There are many IO sets which only require two or three slots to provide an HP bonus so it is easy to get many HP bonuses easily. Make sure to get your +HP accolades too. Second is to increase your Defense to S/L/E/N (shoot for the defense soft cap to these positions. It takes a little more effort/planning to reach the soft cap to these positions but making the enemy miss more is always a good thing.
The Fighting Pool can really help increase your WP survivability. Tough gives about +23% to S/L resistance and Weave provides about 7% to defense. Both of these stack nicely with your current WP powers. Combat Jumping can provide about another 3% defense.
I notice you slotted a lot of End Reduction in your toggles but almost no End Reduction in your attacks. Your attacks will burn much more End while fighting than your toggles will. If you are having trouble with End you should slot End Reduction in your attacks first. Standard toggle slotting is 3x Resist (or defense) and 1x End Reduction.
I would not worry about slotting Taunt into your attacks unless you like the set bonuses. Concentrate on Acc/Dam/End in your attacks. One place you may consider slotting Taunt is in RttC. Some players like to increase the Taunt in RttC since RttC is a fairly weak taunt aura.
The only comprehensive WP/Axe guide I have found is one for Axe/WP Brute. I would suggest reading this guide, it gave me some good ideas.

Hope this helps.
[Edited to add address to Axe/WP guide] -
Thank you very much for your thoughtful suggestions. I ran a couple of TF's yesterday and tried out some of your strategies. I felt like I was able to keep up with the team better was able to contribute more. I still fell into my old habits at times but I will keep practicing.

Greetings fellow Kheldians,
Thank you for your thoughtful advice on my build post a few days ago. I have a follow up question which is more tactics related. I notice that I can sometimes have quite a bit of downtime between mobs compared to other members of the team. At the end of each mob it seems like there are many different activities my Warshade must accomplish while more "standard" AT just rush to the next mob. This sometimes causes a considerable delay before I am ready to engage the next mob.
After each mob this is my typical procedure:
- switch from Nova or Dwarf to Human (my macro automatically turns on Gravity Shield)
- utilize Dark Extraction if it is recharged
- hit Stygian Return to top off my HP's and End
- engage Super Speed
- activate Combat Jumping
- power on Sprint
- enfold myself in Shadow Cloak
- empower Inky Aspect
Do you find you have a similar downtime between mobs? I have a macro that turns on the toggles which makes my post battle procedure a bit easier but it can still take a fair bit of time to get prepared for the next mob.
Sometimes I arrive at the next mob and only the Boss and a random Leuitenant are left alive. At times I will just skip to the next mob so I can get full use out of Eclipse and the Mires.
When I enter a mob I have Inky Aspect and Gravity Shield running, hit Eclipse, Sunless Mire, Gravity Well, Unchain Essence, Dark Extraction, Stygian Circle (if needed), then enter Nova or Dwarf to finish the battle. Do you use a similar entry procedure when you engage a mob?
[Edit: should have listed Gravity Well instead of Gravitic Emanation - I use Gravity Well to drop a Minion so my Unchain Essence has a body to explode - Sorry for the confusion.] -
Thanks for the advice. Sounds like I am on the right track. I have jiggled around a couple of things to get a bit more defense (Thunderstrike set) and stay close to the same recharge levels (LoTG in Invisibility). I notice with the high levels of recharge I probably won't use Dark Nova Bolt so I moved the 2nd slot down to Dark Nova Detonation (Posi Proc) to give it a litte more punch.
My Eclipse is perma (four second overlap, at least while Hasten is up) so the high resists plus the defense should make this a very survivable build.
It will take me a while to collect all the bits and pieces so I would appreciate your input if you spot any improvements or obvious errors in the build.

Hello fellow Kheldians. For the past seven months I have been levelling my Tri-form Warshade on a static team. I dinged level 50 last night and am getting serious about putting together my final build. I see myself playing this toon a lot in the future for level 50 content and running TF's.
I like the idea of adding some Ranged Defense to my build but I am having trouble deciding how to get my ranged defense numbers closer to the soft cap without sacrificing Recharge or functionality. I am currently sitting slightly below 30% to Ranged Defense. Is this high enough that I will notice a significant decrease in incoming damage?
I am considering six slotting Numina's in Black Dwarf Drain to get some extra Ranged Defense (+3.75%) but I am worried about giving up Accuracy in my only heal. I am also considering six slotting Thunderstrikes in Dark Nova Blast to gain some more Ranged Defense (+3.75%) but that means giving up a purple set.
With the build as it stands I think I have pretty much reached the balance point between Ranged Defense, Recharge, and functionality. I would be very interested if you have any suggestions which would help me to improve my build.

Edited to add Mids data chunk -
The only attack on my Spine/Dark I really slotted for slows was Throw Spines since that has a fairly heafty slow on it, -40% compared to -16% for most other Spines attacks. I slotted Quills mostly for End Reduction and Damage with a little Accuracy. You can notice the slow effect from your attacks on mobs but this is mostly from stacking your attacks. Throw Spines is the only attack I see have a big effect on the enemy from only one application. The rest seem to need the stacking of a few attacks.
While levelling I throw two Tempered Readiness into five of my Spines attacks for the 1.5% recovery bonus. I prefer Acc/End and Acc/Dam/Slow IO's. -
I have heard that only damage to your base hit points works for the badge. This means damage affecting extra hit points from powers (High Pain Tolerance, etc) and set bonuses won't count. I haven't tested this but this is what I have heard. Anyone able to confirm this?

Hi, I have been having a problem creating a 2nd install of CoH and was hoping the kind players on the forum could help me out. The basic problem is the shortcut to the 2nd install runs CoH from the 1st install folder.
I am running Vista 32 bit.
I copy CoH into a new folder.
Create a new short cut to Cohstart.exe (renamed Cohupdater.exe (?) so Vista does not elevate the program)
Run the short cut which launches the game.
* The Installation dialog does not start.
* Player account folders are not created in 2nd install folder.
* Checksum file is not created in 2nd install folder.
Note lines with * is why I think the game is not running from the 2nd install folder
Any help or suggestions are appreciated. -

My latest is a spines/dark. WHEW. I have so many toggles that i can't even attack. I jump in a mob and hit spine burst and i'm half consumed already. I have 2-3 end red in each toggle also.

I found Spine/Dark to offer a lot of opportunities for +Recovery bonuses. This can really take the edge off of the end costs.
Spine attacks all have a slow component so if you throw two Tempered Readiness IO's you get +1.5% Recovery in each power. I suggest Acc/End and Acc/Dam/Slow.
Spines and Dark Armor have a total of five PBoA powers. Two Cleaving Blow IO's. Two cleaving blows give you +1.0% Recovery. I suggest Acc/Dam and Dam/End.
Your other big drain on End is Dark Regeneration. Frankenslot some Cleaving Blow, Multi Strike, Harmonized Healing, Triage, and Doctored Wounds to maximize End Reduction and Recharge. Ignore Healing since 3 minions can bring you from the brink of death to full health anyway. -
In the last month there have been posts of a few WS builds that focus on getting capped Ranged defense.
Below is an example of one I copied from the forums:
