So... I14 is just that and nothing else?
    How... Underwhelming

[/ QUOTE ]Actually, if you think about it, adding the Mission Architect effectively gives players a shed load more content than an "average" update would, for the simple fact that a lot of it is going to be player-created.

    City of Monopoly

Ouch... just trying to get 70 mil for one of my LOTG's was bad enough. I think I'd go insane trying to get 1 billion. Unless there's some crazy trick to it which has eluded me...

    City of Monopoly

I won't be satisfied with my scrapper's speed build without another 4x Luck of the Gambler: Global Recharge. That's a whopping +30% recharge rate im missing out on! It's criminal!

Why should my beloved scrapper be stuck on a measly 135.5% recharge when I can have 165.5% and never worry about Hasten's recharge being down?

Only another 280,000,000 influence to go...
  4. I think the obvious use for tickets is to unlock all the account-wide stuff first. Seems easier to pick a dedicated "MA" character and rack up tickets so you can unlock everything to make your own mission arcs that little bit tastier.

Seems rather limiting, in my mind, to lock them to any particular character when the majority of rewards you're likely to want will be the account-wide unlockables anyway as the other stuff is obtainable via merits already!

    WoW copies CoX?

    [ QUOTE ]
Now, if more MMO's got the Sk/Exemplar system (Final Fantasy XI has now) I'd be even happier.

[/ QUOTE ]FFXI has a cr*p version though. It only works one way (high to low levels). Give me a SIDEKICK system as well and it would be more balanced. People tend to stick inviting higher level members rather than their peers because they're more skilled. At least in my experience.

That's one of the reasons I love CoX so much. You can team up with just about anybody with decent enough results. No travel powers? Use Recall Friend. Low level? Sidekick and join in the fun! The only caveat is slotting and enhancements, but it's a minor issue unless you've got some crazy level diff, like a level 2 being SK'd by a level 50...

Edit: That word is really censored? On a forum for a game rated 16+? I despair sometimes...

    The Money Pit

Lessee... I bought the combined CoH/CoV pack complete with Pocket D transport and jump pack, but I don't remember how much it cost back then (I think it was around £25 though).

    So, let's see...

    City of Heroes/Villains x2 £50
21 Months gameplay First account: £188.79
18 Months gameplay second account: £161.82
    2x Wedding Pack: £9.98

    Total: £410.59

I spend more than that on clothes shopping in a year, so I guess it proves that CoH is good value for money after all!
  7. Funny thing is, I happened upon City of Heroes while not really looking to start another MMO (I still play Final Fantasy XI).

As I recall, I found a website which had an intruiging article on MMO's. I clicked it thinking I'd find FFXI given a small mention somewhere. It sure did, but what interested me more was the mention of a superhero MMO which I'd previously not heard about.

Following the supplied links I ended up on a website where I could set up a trial account and start playing. Back then the trial accounts were far from limited and I hit level 30+ well before the 14 days were over. Not wanting to lose my character, having had such a great experience all around, I upgraded to a full account and I've been here ever since.

I now have 2 accounts and recently received my 21 month vet reward on the first!
  8. Bah... misread the announcement. Thought that I14 had gone on the test servers already (as of 20th Feb actually). Serves me right for not paying full attention to the post.

Still, to say im extremely excited about I14 would be the understatement of the decade. As far as im concerned, this is a landmark update not just for CoX but for MMO's in general. Seriously -- there's not many online games out there which allow you to create your own content and those that do exist aren't nearly handsome as CoX (Second Life comes to mind, but considering you have to PAY for the majority of that stuff...).

The three mission restriction doesn't phase me in the slightest, to be honest. I'm going to be filling every single one of them with the best missions im capable of. And, with a little luck, perhaps create some content that's enjoyed by everyone.

    WoW copies CoX?

You know, I think it was named "WoW" purely for ironic reasons, because it certainly fails to provoke anything even close to a "Wow!" reaction.

    Hover buffed

I'm still waiting for the update where Super Speed feels more super speedy (How about some cool blur or something too?) and Flight speed is enhanced to the current Super Speed velocity.

It will probably never happen, but if the Flash can run to the North pole in less than an hour, I should at least be able to run the length of Steel Canyon in 10 seconds.

    Vilianside Maps

I thought the dark and sinister feel of the Rogue Isles was quite fitting for a City of Villains game. My only gripe about the maps was how many of them favor flight for getting around easily. This is especially noticeable in areas like Mercy Island (the starter zone) which has enormous walls which can barely be Super Leapt over, and Grandville where a lot of the missions can be found high above ground level accessible only by obscure lifts or a lot of leap-frogging.

But like they said, give it time to grow on you. City of Villains really has some fantastic areas (My personal favourite zone is St. Martial. It's really beautiful at night) and once you find your way around the areas, they won't seem so bad.
  12. There's also the fact that when mezzed you automatically detoggle on certain abilities. Considering how easy it is to mez someone, even if for a fraction of a second, it makes those abilities next to useless in PvP because they're almost indefinetly on recharge.
  13. Worked like a charm. I renamed the directory, installed from the disc and then copied the files over and removed the originals. Thanks for the advice
  14. I have a fully updated copy of City of Heroes / Villains on one of my drives, but due to a system update going horribly wrong, I've had to reinstall my operating system.

Is there a way to get the already updated version of CoX to work without having to reinstall and download everything off the internet?

    Now What?

    [ QUOTE ]
Not my favorite solution and I do hope it is just a stopgap before we merge completely with servers and all to the US.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I don't really see any benefits to merging. Unless im missing some crucial aspect of playing with people whose night times are our daytimes. Unless they moved the entire European servers as-is (complete with Character names et al), I wouldn't be satisfied moving along.

I dare say if it came to a fresh start, I'd use it as an excuse to move to another MMO. Champions Online isn't too far off on the horizon now, or maybe that Star Trek MMO...
  16. Hmm... im not usually a doomsayer, but things don't seem too bright for CoX's European future. However we're being reassured, it feels like clutching at straws rather than a long term solution.

Perhaps a server merge is inevitable, but I hope it never comes to that. I don't want to rename all my characters or stand even the remote possibility of losing my SG or base. I hope this isn't the beginning of the end, but a nagging voice tells me there's more to come.

Guess we'll have to wait and see what the future brings.
  17. I really hope they can fix the /tell bug soon. It's one of the more disruptive ones as far as im concerned, since sometimes you dont even know who you're receving the message from (incomplete names etc), so you can't even reply.

A real pain for getting teams, or responding to friends.
  18. Thunderspark

    Elitism

I think the worst form of elitism is if your team fails a TF, for whatever reason, and one player blames another, singularly, for the failure. Having been the target of such an attack myself (as the healer), it's hard not to feel a little wounded.

For that reason, im generally quick to avoid teaming with players who consider themselves above reproach.

    Merit bubble?

    [ QUOTE ]
So what is the best way to get merits??

    [/ QUOTE ]
If you figure this one out, let me know. I need 1100 of the darned things to finish my scrapper's build...
  20. [ QUOTE ]
Also, griefers would use teleport foe with wild abandon causing mayhem for roleplayers.

    [/ QUOTE ]
TP foe would not fire because it treats all players as allied, hero and villain alike.

I would like to be able to TP around though. Perhaps they could just disable the Recall Friend power instead? Although, even then I don't see a point since it wouldn't let you out of the door into the Rogue Isles anyway.
  21. A petawatt laser and they still can't make rayguns. Buck Rogers will be disappointed in a few centuries time...
  22. Television speaks to us. Precious. We likes the television. Television is our freind. Precious. Television tells me that radio is evil. Radio must be punished. Precious. The man on the television says so...
  23. Thunderspark

    Merit bubble?

Actually, im rather hoping to get my hands on a ton of Luck of the Gambler recharge IOs for my speed build scrapper...

...they retail for a whopping 60 million or more, are never on sale and seem to elude my best attempts to get them through the random rolls...
  24. Thunderspark

    Respec recipes ?

With dual builds, I think respec's are more necessary now than they ever were. And with the rarity of respec recipes (I've never encountered a SINGLE one in all my gametime!) it's doubtful I'll ever have one to hand if I need it.
  25. I never really got on with the VEATS. Played as a widow for a bit, then realised she played too much like a stalker but without the hide. I'm sure they're a lot more fun when you get to 24 and can specialise, but even then it seems rather shoehorned into being a dominator type or a scrapper. Both of which can be done better by their dedicated classes.

Spiders offer a few new tricks at least. Not played with one to great lengths, so I can't really comment much. But then they're also the class I see most abundantly in the Rogue Isles, and I was never content to go with the crowd
