Respec recipes ?
Or do a respec trial, which is quicker than a lot of TF's anyways.

According to the Wiki http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Respec_Recipe it's an enemy drop. Then, again, everything seems to become scarcier at auctions, even the drops, although I don't think it's because of the rate as such...

Can only do it 3 times and many players used all their respecs :-)

If they are normal rare drops, it feels like the dropchance got lowered very much judging by wentsworth or bm.
[/ QUOTE ]The droprate hasn't dropped, the demand has increased due to dual builds and other changes, while the supply has fallen due to people switching from mob farming to merit farming.

Wow, I cant even think of one of my characters that would not have a respec handy. Most of them have something between 2-4 unused respecs and most of them have only ever been respec'd once or twice.

After I5 they did another patch to Rad which meant my Rad/Rad defender needed to shuffle the build around. I's used my 3 earned ones (cause it was my first character) and my free one.
Since then I've not even needed to do a trial on any character but I have seen the sort of situation where it could matter.

They were appropriately appalled

They're now putting it all together.

with one leg missing
Eight legs, one body, silk,
spider, brilliant!"
I can see your point. There used to be a time when I was always short of respecs, but then I learnt how powers worked and which ones of them had any synergy between each other.
After that my respec sessions have been scarce.

Strange because that is the opposite for me
When I was new I didn't respec at all, now I know the game I start with one build, respec at 20 normally, respec again at 50 for an IO build then respec once more when I have enough inf for a purpled build
Dual builds has helped because I use build one pre-20 then switch to build two post-20 saving me one respec.
So that tends only to leave me with my vet respec left and some people don't have that option. But the respec drop rate has always seemed a bit low. I have dropped about 20 purples and only 1 respec recipe, and that was AGES ago.
British by act of union, English by grace of God, Northern by pure good fortune!
Exactly, the sort of people that need more respecs are not the people likely to get vet ones or have logged up enough time to get a few drop for them

With dual builds I'd still consider three plenty. There was a time when we had to do with only 3 respecs. And there was no way to get more aside from freespecs and I think people did just fine.
Usually I dont even have to use respecs. Build 1 for leveling up and Build 2 for IOs. It's great!

One build for levelling and IOs or one build for levelling and several for IOs seems to be my lot.
My Elec/Mental/Elec has the same power choices and slots as it picked up on the way to 50, so does my Broadsword/SR (though in hindsight having parry in and ditching it on IOs would have been bright). In comparison my DM/SR has had 3 builds since hitting 50 (though it was my first to hit 50) and my Rad/Rad defender has used 6 respecs in total, including free ones. Only one of these was post 50. My Claws/WP is probably due its 3rd build at some point, but I want to purple it up too, so it might end up with a 4th. None of my other 50s are likely to change though and my Cold/Dark/Power defender will be fine with its 1-50 build just being IO'd

That was the time without sets sets and only Sos, now with sets there is more reason to respec in order to see how it works out.
Powers change pretty often either pve or pvp these days.
Some ppl want to use the 2nd build for pvp...

When powers change big time they tend to hand out freespecs.
And you don't need a respec to try out different IO sets, just lots of inf.

I use Mids. Cheaper alternative.
CoH PvP SG = SuperUnion - Co-Leader - Union/Freedom
CoV PvP VG = Disruption - Co-Leader - Union/Freedom
Global = @Rent & @Rent.

I have got into the habbit of respecing using my Vet respecs at lvl 22 for SOs. During the run up to 22 I dont start picking the Fitness pool etc just because at the lower levels most of the time im in need of that extra power and Swift doesnt really cut it. So at 22 I respec to the build including stamina etc and stick in SOs.
I tend to respec again at 32 if Im low on cash and stick in lvl 35 IOs till 50 then sort the final build out.
Set plan I tend to follow with all my toons.

Wonder if they're upping the freespec limit to 2 in hand, as dual builds means that any big power changes could mean respeccing each build.

/signed Olr alternatively, it would be good make respec affect both builds at once, although I suspect that's more trouble than it's worth coding-wise.
With dual builds, I think respec's are more necessary now than they ever were. And with the rarity of respec recipes (I've never encountered a SINGLE one in all my gametime!) it's doubtful I'll ever have one to hand if I need it.
Characters:
The Heroic Mary Grace (50)
The Mystical Thunderspark (50)
The Candy-loving Little Jenny (50)

But it's Ok. NCSoft saved us. Rather than making us run the last respec mission again so we could get more Respecs they kindly let us either play the Markets game (which is next to impossible since the damn things are so rare) or pay for the privilage.
Thank you NCSoft. You are benevolent beyond words.

3? Just 3??
Most of my characters go through 3 respecs by level 32.
My WS is currently on 5 or 6 with another pending (why did I pick Stygian Return? Waste of time).
Mids can't really give you a good idea of how certain power combos or IO set-ups will actually work (for example adding a PROC to Trick Arrows Ice Arrow seemed like a bright idea, until I actually tried it ingame. Urrgh)

Agreed. Also maybe you want to swap between epics to see which one you prefer most. I lost the counts of respecs i used on Psy, and i think i want one more
I slotted proc in Dominate but didn't see any effect yet, +2 mag hold sounded very cool but that Cimerorans still kicking me in some places too hard.

I was dimmer than that, I added a Damage proc to Ice Arrow. USELESS!!!
This was when I was in my PROC addiction phase, which I've weaned myself off now, mostly.

It'd be cool if they made the veteran reward SG teleporter, powers and combat pets and normal pets buyable, that would level the playing field more too with the latter (rather than just "who's been giving us lots of money (over months))

Click the little shopping bag icon at the bottom right of the toon selection screen. It opens up a little window that lets you buy respecs and extra server slots.
Did the devs lower the dropchance for them to force players to buy respecs for real money ?
Did they used to be trial or tf drops or just normal rare drops from normal mobs ?
If they are normal rare drops, it feels like the dropchance got lowered very much judging by wentsworth or bm.
If they used to be trial or tf drops, they are practically out of the game since you cant buy them with merits.
Since the droprate is about nonexistant the devs could at least make them purchasable with merits ?
