Folks may or may not be happy to know that I checked in some changes for I14 yesterday that increases the minimum speed of Hover and the Suppressed Speed of Flight. Previously, both values are ~5.5' per second on live. After the change, the values will be ~14' per second, with Hover enhanceable up to around 22' per second (about the speed of unslotted Sprint.)

I really should do something about this signature.

Wow, and I already considered Hover + Swift fairly speedy. Good to know.

Aww, why no actual increase to normal flight speed? How are we supposed to be faster than a speeding bullet?

If flight is increased too much then superspeed will (by a technical pov) be the inferior travelpower by a large margin.

We can.

To be serious for a moment, I have never felt that the power pool is about the travel power. It's the other stuff that goes with it that makes it worthwhile. I believe that most people take the travel pool solely for the power when it's actaully the pool in its totality that should be the big thing (but sadly that doesn't always work.)

Flight's probably the most popular power... I'd guess by a mile, and for two reasons; it's convenient and works in three dimensions, and also, you can fly! Fantastic.

Superspeed is quick. But it's rubbish when there's a brick wall you can't jump over.

Teleport is good in a straight line when you've got your rhythm going, but you're never gonna sight see on it

Superjump is kinda like a gimped fly. It works in a half-@$$3d way. It isn't quicker than fly but it has significant disadvantages over fly - ask anyone who's ever landed in a mob bigger than them

But, most of these powers have compensations from their pool. My own experience is that Teleport is probably the most complete travel pool, but Teleport Team is a bit... odd, especially when compared to the Assemble the Team temp power.

Similarly Superspeed needs work. Whirlwind is just horrid, but Hasten is ace. And let's not forget that Superspeed and Combat Jump were de rigeur in previous PVP rules (are we seeing something new here?)

Fly has it's gimps to. Group Fly? Please!!!!

So, is this change bad? Probably not but it's giving the bulk of toons a bit of a boost.

Maybe one way to look at it is that Fly is the base. Once you've got that down you can look at other travel powers. That's not the best or only way to look at it, but it's one way.

I hope she comes back with a good one, defend the female species.

I'm glad they've increased the speed, never found Hover very manoeuvrable at the best of times.

The above is only my opinion, please don't hate me for it

SS also have built in stealth (50% PvE invisibility), flight/SJ does not.

[/ QUOTE ]Super Jump is almost as fast as Super Speed and has vertical movement and air control; as you don't really need to travel much higher vertically than what SJ can provide anyway in nearly any situation outside of Grandville, this gives SJ significant advantages over both Fly and Super Speed.

Also, it's in the same pool as Combat Jumping and Acrobatics.

Posted

iirc.. at level 50 Fly caps at around 55mph, SJ at around 80 and SS at about 100.

If I take SS on a character I tend to find CJ and Hurdle get around the vertical movement barriers - and failing that the GvE jump pack.

OT.. Hover speed boost *woo*

I think SS caps at around 92. I can't remember, as I replaced the runspeed IO in my Super Speed with the Winter's Gift slow resistance IO.

Posted

Although I know that balance goes over concept of character I wish they would speed up flying to 90 mph or something...Even though I slot fly and swift for fly it just seems odd that flying is so slow.

I realize it would be unfair to the other travel powers though

"About 100" covers my brute that caps at 96*, and an SG /SR scrapper who's max speed is 110* (or so he claims - I'm not entirely sure I believe him tho - but equally I did wonder if Quickness isn't included in the calculation of speed buffs in the way that other buffs are and somehow pushes the cap limit higher? )

*according to the Combat Attribute monitor

Might've been 97 point something; in any case it hits blue numbers (the cap) before 100, at level 50. My Brute has Lightning Reflexes (exactly the same as Quickness), but Hurdle instead of Swift, so unless Swift somehow lifts the cap, it's below 100; close to it, I'll admit.

Anyway, I'm just being nit-picky over digits now. I still say Super Speed is the lamest travel power, it's just the one I use most because of concept/FX.
