Quote:There's also the issue of duration. I'm not aware of any toggle in the game, or previously in the game, which has a duration and detoggles itself when the duration runs out.Quote:Phase shift powers work this way. Specifically I'm thinking of Hibernate. It will detoggle itself after a set duration. So the tech does exist.
Person34, I understand your desire for a more eloquent way to end the effects of the tier 9 (the hold portion of Power Surge never seems enough to compensate for the whole "oh god, I'm dead" thing), but it's probably not going to happen... -
Quote:I think, however, that he may be on the EU serversClearly your new and perhaps your server is stinky, try freedom or virtue i think.

To the OP; scroll down to the servers board, and and look in any of the sub boards labeled with an "(eu)" (Note; only if you are on the European servers, I'm assuming here. If not on the EU servers, any of the other severs will do.) And ask around about global channels and active super groups. Those are the two methods that yield the best results in finding teams for just about anything. -
Also, just a note; if you're going to start a VEAT, I highly recommend sticking with it until lvl 24 (I think) where you get a respec and choose a path (bane/crab, widow/fortuna). This is where they really start getting fun.

Yeah, discussing this much further is probably grounds for thread locking.
Personally, I hope they ignore the rage their announcement stirred up and go forward with it. I think it's a horrible horrible idea paved with good intentions. I have absolutely nothing invested in Blizzard's products (At least until SC2), and with that in mind; I think it's a great social experiment that I'd like to see the result of. -

yeah, it makes very little sense.
On the one hand, I can see the desire to clean up their community; ours is generally nice and respectful, while theirs... imagine the reputation of freedom ^100.
On the other; a fair number of their less savory members aren't even going to blink at their names being shown. While at the same time a number of their desirable productive forum members will leave due to very real privacy concerns. -

There's also our friendly neighborhood blob. (although he's not as popular as he once was). And a few Master-of (zero defeats, no temp powers) badge challenges for our higher-level task/strike forces.
And... there's also pretty much the entire shadow shard and its 4 task forces..... just, ah, make sure everyone has several hours free for a few of those. Although; not sure if you'd enjoy them that much if you're already starting to get burned out on the enter mission, kill stuff, click glowie routine.
Or, you could always try getting into what little PVP the game has to offer... But I wouldn't blame you if the idea wasn't entirely palatable. -
Quote:Is/was it stuck on "sound.pigg" There's a running theory that the updater does not exactly report downloading/processing speeds in real time, but rather by taking the sum of the file sizes completed in the last unit of time (don't know what it is).Okay. This time it started the download again, after awhile...but something's up with the connection. Since I'm downloading at 0 b/s, and have an estimated wait time of 885390 hours (just over 101 years, apparently. Noice.)
I've already portforwarded for the game, though...so I dunno why it's so bad.
Normally this method would work reasonably well. Downloaded 60Mb worth of files in the last 5 minutes? well that right there is 200Kb/s. But when you reach the huge files like some of the *.pigg ones, that method hits the floor. 5 minutes pass, and no completed filed to report on. Reported transfer rate takes a dive, and since the time remaining is based off of transfer rate against total bytes remaining...
If you can, just leave it running over night, should finish everything by the time you wake up. -
I'd probably slot 1 in brawl on every character. The other 4 would be used to alleviate some pre-SO/IO problems on newer characters, being slotted over as necessary.
-
Not quite embarrassing on the same scale; But recently one of our server's main global channels was instructed to gather for RAs. Frankly I don't think we were given enough notice... or instructions on where to gather...

Quote:I seem to recall reading that they work like IOs... They are slottable from the early levels, providing DO values. A kind of a boost for newer characters. But while lvl21+ can slot them and benefit from the (small) enhancement value; the proc stops working after lvl 20.This seems to be the clincher. If they're actually equivalent, then that means they're only usable from 17 to 23, and would be inferior to SOs (and IOs), with the exception of the minor buff, in which case it's not a big deal IMO.
I could be completely wrong here, though.
EDIT: Beaten to the punch; with detailed quotes, no less. :/ -
Yeah; like how I always run across steel canyon (mostly out of habit) to change a costume on a new character, when I could just head straight to the Vanguard DPO in Atlas.

Quote:well, you got 6, 7 and 8 correct. 9 would be IX.So, what happen to VI, VII, VIII, VX?? I do it right right? 6, 7, 8, & 9?
VX, is... not proper at all. As near as I can determine, it would be like saying "ten, less 5", which is, well, 5.
More information than you probably want to know; but it includes helpful (but a bit complicated) rules, and a nice chart.
And now you know. And knowing is half the battle. The other half? 25% red lasers, 25% blue lasers -
Quote:I---'m having flashbacks to that horrible horrible movie trailer with the swarms of "angels" and the pregnant lady with the last hope for humanity in her belly...Ok, we have demons.... the crovers hell, I think it time for heaven!! Here is my idea....
angeles
1. Gleaming Bolt-Ranged, Minor Damage (Energy), Foe -Defense
2. Angels- summion 3 angels
3. Gleaming Blast-Ranged, High Damage (Energy), Foe: -Defense, Knockback
4. Gem of Power- upgrade your pets
5. Luminous Detonation -Ranged (Targeted Area of Effect), Moderate Damage (Energy
6. Gaurdians- summion two angles
7. Helping Hand-call 5-10 angles from heaven to aid you.
8. Arch Angel-Call 1 powerful angels.
9. Suit of Power- Buff up your Angels
Tell me what you think!
Curse you for bringing up that thought... *sigh* back to the old brainbleach treatment. -
... Play your lvl 40 crab more? decent range/melee attacks (with possible "All AoE all the time" attack chain). Has good resist/defense/self-heal, and up to 6 (slow recharge, non-controlable) pets.
I think I have my spiderlings on a no (or negligible) downtime, and the other 2 powers around a minute or two. -

Best probable way to deal with it is to post or edit in something along the lines of "mea culpa; figured out the pebkac problem" (yes, yes, redundant redundancy), and PM your friendly neighborhood mod(08?) with a polite request to lock your thread.
Although if you really are having trouble with some powersets/archtypes; might not be a bad idea to follow up on some of the above advice and give us some specifics to better allow us to render assistance. -
Really wish architect edition came with science pack option too... already have tech/magic. oh well.

Quote:I think the thing about the self buff is, that the vales it gives aren't that spectacular (the 30% recharge reduction is nice tho)... And I completely understand why. That said; the defence bonus it randomly gives is great if you just need that little extra push to the defence cap.Interesting answers... I would have thought the new one, which gives a self buff would be more popular... I guess time will tell
side note: I would love to be able to have Ninja Run work without the animation
while it is cool, it's very sisnter lookinggreat look for villains!

For feck's sake... Devs, can we stop doing this, please?
If it's not completely intentional, I'm guessing that "podperson" was what it was called in development, and there was lack of, or mis, communication, and whomever entered the command into the database wasn't aware of the namechange...
Can we at least get an alias on this one? As it stands, it's not even close.
And can we please get these three to work with toggles active like every other costume change emote that came before them... -

This sounds like a fairly serious issue on your end. And without additional technical information about your computer, would be impossible to diagnose within a reasonable timeframe.
Step 1, head on down to the Technical Issues & Bugs forum.
Step 2, read through the Common Solution & Posting Guide sticky.
Step 3, If none of the common solutions solve your problem, read the "How to post" section paying extra attention to the parts about CoH Helper and HijackThis. These two programs will generate a LOT of text that you need to paste into your new post in the tech boards. This should give our tech savvy players sufficient information to diagnose your problem and provide a solution.
Hope you get this figured out... Crashes are never fun.
EDIT: beaten to the punch, oh well. -
I just hope that everyone predicting one way or the other in terms of supply/demand/prices resulting from the merger will give it a few days before slinging "I told you so"s around.
It will probably take a bit for everything to settle, considering we have to re-list everything. Take Kinetic Weapons for example... ~10000 listed blue-side. Assuming a maximum of 20 stacks of 10 per character, that's at least 50 characters that need to be logged on, taken to the market and re-list all 20 stacks. It. will. take. time. -
Quote:Q1; There's no real auto-tracking (camera wise) targets, if that's what you're asking*. Mousewheel controls camera zoom, and middle mouse button ("button3"?) will allow you to swing the camera around to your side/front (zooming all the way in recenters it). right mouse button will swing the camera and turn your character.hey folks human, mechanical, mutant.. or otherwise.
im new to the game.. always interested me but other game always pulled me away. felt it was time to settle back and attempt this game. so i have a few questions.. feel free to chime in with anything be it a definite answer or not.
question 1: anyway to set the camera to auto-adjust i just find myself having some issues with the control of my field of vision. and often end up staring at my direction of travel or target in an awkward way or not at all.
question 2: where to play. not a fan of smaller servers. they tend to be full of dysfunctional or closely knit communities i just cant break into. ideally towards superhero but im open to the idea of villainy if there is enough reason.
and general tips would help but beyond those two i got nothing in need of answer.. as of yet. who knows we may see each other sooner than you think :P
*Although, when you attack something, your character turns towards it, and the camera maintains it's orientation to the character, turning too. If you don't like this camera movement, you can hold down right mouse button to keep the camera where it is, your character will turn while attacking, and then return to face away from the camera once the animation finishes.
Q2; Generally, for North American servers, Freedom and Virtue are the most populated two. Virtue, however, is where most of the roleplayers flock to (not a good or a bad thing, except in Pocket D sometimes, but it may influence your decision). If you're on the European servers... Union? I don't know. One of the two English servers is the most populated one, I believe. But I'd wait for one of the European players to correct me, if this applies to you at all.
Other tips? uh... Depending on your gaming history, forget all you know about the holy trinity (Tank, DPS, Healer). It doesn't really apply here. Our archtypes blur the lines too much for it to be of use. And Buffs are generally far more effective than heals. It's not that heals aren't useful, just that preemptive buffing is better than playing health bar whack-a-mole. Also, the death penalty is trivial; after lvl 10, faceplanting gives debt, which halves your XP income until the debt is payed off (the cap for debt is lower than it used to be, and there's more ways to reduce it and pay it off than ever before).
Only other thing, have fun, try a little of everything, and take it easy. There is no need to rush to 50. Where other games* put most of their content on the end of the leveling grind, ours is relatively evenly spaced amongst all levels. Higher level characters can go back and play anything they missed along the way, too, if creating many alternate characters doesn't appeal to you.
Hope I've helped you out, good luck in your adventures.
