Everyone would still be playing their game as normal....just gaining the badge a lot later in levels.

    [/ QUOTE ]
As things stand, normal = getting the badge without level-based restrictions.

So if you got your suggestion for a level-based restriction you would indeed be requiring people to play the game differently.

    Edit: Fixed syntax
  2. Ah, I'd overlooked both the occasional "wandering" detective and the desire to find stations rather than detectives for Day Job purposes - ooops!

I've been having this glitch where when i take something out of the auction house i don't get back the money you give when you put it up for sale.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's intended, you only get that back if you sell the item.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Indeed, although it's a matter of semantics as to whether you ever really get it back.

You're immediately charged 5% of the reserve price when you put something up for auction; if you withdraw it from sale later, that 5% isn't regained.

If the item sells, you get 10% of the sale price (which might turn out to be higher than the reserve price), less the initial 5% of reserve, deducted from what you gain.

Whether that amounts to a refund of the 5%, then deduction of the full 10%, or a single deduction of 10% less the original fee, is a bit moot (I think of it as a single deduction, as you only get the one cash entry in the chat log), but either way the result's exactly the same.
  4. IIRC (which is a long way from a sure thing, this time of year) you get a detective added to the map when you enter a zone for the first time and get assigned one as your safeguard contact?

Assuming you do, a Police Station marker wouldn't provide anything extra and would just clutter things up a bit.
  5. [ QUOTE ]
And if he doesn't? Does that mean what he says is wrong? I don't think so.

This could go back and forth til the end of the world comes. But until someone proves him wrong, then no-one can say his statement is false. You don't have to go searching for his source to do this, find your own. But so far no-one has posted anything. (if they have then i've missed it because i'm tired)

    [/ QUOTE ]
If he doesn't, then he isn't proven right. In light of his posting history, I'm not inclined to run around spending my time proving or disproving what could have been a throwaway remark that took him all of 5 seconds to invent and type in.

So, no more back and forth, but my opinion ain't shifting until someone else makes the effort to provide hard figures. And traditionally the onus is on the person that makes an assertion to back it up if necessary.

(Example: If I was to say "I know Ghostraptor's actually a member of the Albanian royal family - the proof's on the web somewhere, but I can't be bothered to link to it", would your default position be to believe me until someone else spent time disproving it? )
  6. [ QUOTE ]
    Right until proven wrong.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I'd go with "Dubious until proven right". With weighting based on the poster's previous history.

Given that the poster in question's previous history goes back all of 5 days, had at least 3 forum name chances, a currently flamey name and started a few majorly flamey threads (now deleted - welcome back, GR ), I'm inclined to regard that poster as "damned dubious". If anyone's going to be doing work to prove themselves right, the poster Sinergy_X was replying to is the one that needs to.
  7. The problem is you get the MM primay set, which is all pet summoning, enhancing, etc..., and the MM secondary set, which is teeny bit of damage and a mix of heals, buffs, and debuffs. Basic character generation rules (for all ATs, not just MMs), means you can mix primaries and secondaries more or less at will (a few recent shield-related restrictions aside), and for MMs all the damage comes from the pets.

If the new MM primary is all about duplicating the main toon and whichever of the current secondary sets it's using, all you'll get is a bunch of low damage, buff/debuff/heal-oriented pets. This'll be both wimpy, and probably beyond what current pet AI can manage without major enhancing.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
It can be done, the reason im thinking the devs said it was hard to do was because they were thinking of actual power fx changes not just colour, which would mean changing the entire animation, in which case i understand.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Not so I'm afraid; the colours are as integral a part of a power's f/x as its shape, and as major a thing to modify - clicky.

Mods just swap the one and only instance of a power's f/x with another, changing the way every use of that power looks on the modded client. Doing this "properly" would mean allowing for different toons having different modifications, and makes it a far bigger job.

    Edit: Fixed typo

    [ QUOTE ]
We also have duplication of effort. Such as the Announcements, patch notes etc. This work could be reduced with a merging of the forums into one CoX forum, instead of the two seperate ones.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The effort is not in the posting of patch notes on two forums (fora?) but rather the translation and localisation. Unless all support for the French and German communities is dropped completely then the same amount of work would still go into it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I might be missing something here, but how can posting in 1 english fourm and 2 others be the same as posting in 2 english and 2 others?

Okay - might not be alot more - but it's duplicated effort.

    [/ QUOTE ]
It'll be fairly marginal though - something on the order of a minute or two for the extra english post with split forums.

Over a year that might just sum up to an hour or two, which is probably enough to be noticable, but likely to be less than the effort they'd need to put in to merge the forums in the first place.
  10. Doesn't a birthday on Christmas Eve mean you're a werewolf? Or was that Easter?

Anyway, happy birthday MA - enjoy your two days of presents, cake and turkey!
  11. [ QUOTE ]
But... will the current crop of Devs be maintained consistently? I suspect that once I14 hits the shelves there will be a cutback and a smaller core will look after I15.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Only NCNC can say for sure, but there is a significant overhead in switching devs between products.

It takes a while (months, or even years) to get up to speed on development tools, code structure, conventions, etc... and once a team's got the hang of things for one product you really don't want to switch them somewhere else unless you have to.

(Or, from an alternate perspective, you only want to assign people to a project for short tasks if you absolutely have to - given the initial delay while they're learning the ropes it's not at all efficient.)
  12. Do you recall if he said that before or after the staff increases at NCNC?
  13. [ QUOTE ]
They might need to finish porting over all the power sets before they could make going rogue an option.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Not sure about that - the ATs are so fundamentally different on blue and red side it won't make any difference whether or not power sets are available "natively" on each side.

Having a Poison-type set added for defenders hero side wouldn't particularly help if you wanted to take a Bots/Poison MM over, for example.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
But according to another thread there is no problem with abuse on these fourms.

If you're after using them for key binds in game, button4 and button5 work for my MS mouse's side buttons.
  18. After you've entered somewhere new, try typing:

    /sync

then hitting enter in the chat box. It sounds like you're having mapserver synchronisation problems, and a while back the devs added the /sync command to force a reset on things.

    Edit: Grrr!!! Double NINJA!!!
  19. SPLIT TEH SERVERS!!!!

The current arrangement is very unfair. If there was another server just for me that would still be unfair. I need one server for each of my toons, because what we have now is unfair.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
This is not a suggestion to merge them, i just wanted to know why so many people are against it...

    [/ QUOTE ]
Genuine interest, because in your years on the forums you've never heard this discussed before and have no idea at all what people's opinions might be? Right.

Anyway, if you do want to know, how about trying this thread, started all of two days ago and running to over 10 pages on this very subject. Comes pre-locked, for your reading pleasure.

    SG Base Statues

    [ QUOTE ]
Standoff: I think your mechanisms are tying the statue too closely into the character itself. Once it's created, you really want it to be unconnected from the toon it represents. There quite often are technical difficulties with generating statues by taking animated models and locking them into one position. Depends on the engine, of course, but it's likely to be a difficult course to run.

    [/ QUOTE ]
In that case I probably didn't make myself clear - when I mentioned "Create new costume definition slots to define how the toon's dressed" as the first step, these new slots would have been independent of the characters involved.

    SG Base Statues

    [ QUOTE ]
This was suggestioned not long ago, there's a lot of technical difficulties with it, it's not a cakewalk because lots of people will want SG Base Statues and the devs will have to make these all and use up all the time therefore decreasing the quality of Issues.

    [/ QUOTE ]
"Technical difficulties"? I think I must have missed the red name post where we got an authoritative word on that.

At a technical level setting up statues would involve something along the lines of:

    * Create new costume definition slots to define how the toon's dressed (for the costume to be copied into when the statue's created - this is assuming they don't want to use a toon's "live" slot, and have the statue change whenever the toon visits Icon).

    * Extend the existing toon rendering code so there's an extra "statue" mode; this would place the statued toon and costume in a static pose (maybe one of a number of static emotes).

    * Make the rendering code apply the existing "granite" texture when rendering statues.

    * Set up user interface to allow statues to be created and placed

I'd hesitate to say whether that will be overall easy or difficult, or somewhere in between, but for everything but the last item you're mainly reusing or modifying existing routines rather than creating huge chunks of brand new functionality.

I think I can say with confidence that we'll never see a system in which "devs will have to make these all" - any statue system would be fully automated and need zero mod/dev input once finished, or they wouldn't add it at all.

I don't really want this thread to be about whether or not I should or shouldn't be doing this, its perfectly legal and its how I wish to play the game.

Sorry, this is the General Discussion forum, not Trade and Mart, so discussing the merits of a topic that's been raised - in the thread that raised it - seems entirely in order as long as nothing gets too heated.
