Reason A: because of the message it sends:
1) Merging servers gives the impression of a dying game.
2) No one wants to invest time in a game that is dying.
3) People leave the game because they think its dying.
4) Soon there are fewer people on the merged servers than there where on the live servers.
5) The game is cancelled, and we have no servers.
Reason B: Defiant is not the least populated server. The french and german ones are. Server merging would mean an end to French and German support.
Reason C: Lots of threads like this also give the impression that the game is dying, and therefore are damaging to the game. that is why you will be flamed for starting this thread.
I really should do something about this signature.
Personally, it's not so much that I'm opposed to a server merge (I don't think it's a particularly good idea, nor do I think it necessary, but I'm not fiercely opposed to it either) as that I'm opposed to the incessant demands for it. The horse is long dead. You can stop with the beating. For the sake of Ull, Morgaine and Vishnu would people just give it a rest already! It's getting more annoying than the ED complaints.

Because it gives the impression that we dont have the playerbase anymore to keep more than 1 server active.
If you look at it that it'll get more subs into the game then a few months down the line we'ld need more servers again just to handle the new playerbase. Which inturn means that those new servers would become heavily less populated.

EVE was designed to start out and continue playing out with one server. It has never gained servers, nor lost them.
CoX started out with 4 EU side and more US side. Any drop in server numbers of any magnitude would set alarm bells ringing to potential newcomers that it appears the population's declined way too far.

Apart from any of the perfectly good reasons for not merging servers, at this point I am against doing so because people are constantly asking for it.

City of heroes is FAR from one of the most played MMORPGs i would guess... and i personaly think it would be good to merge to two servers to get a larger ammount of people together...
But now, i wanna hear peoples reason for not merging the servers, what would be good/bad about it ?
