Strange thought - Power customisation for i14

Now I recall some time ago that Bab or Castle (Can't remember which) said that Power customisation was a monumentally time-consuming task that was achievable but nothing else would be achieved in that time.

Given that the last few issues have been content-lite, I surmise that i14 will have power customisation and that it is the thing that has been asked for previously thought impossible which will be coming with i14.

Who's with me?

I think if it's such a massive job, it's more likely they'll spread it out over several Issues, like the porting over of power sets.

Almost certainly not.

I14 will be the Architect and some frillies but nothing else of consequence

scarlet shockers probibly got this one bang on the architect system was to be the huge add on for i13 and they moved it back to make it biger and better so i got a feeling there wont be much else with that issues and anything big planed for i14 insteda of the architect system will get bundled into the i15/5year bday bundle to make it all the more shinny

There isnt a problem on earth that cant be solved with the proper aplication of hi explosive's

I think I15 is a more sensible time to add graphic tweaks - it's the 5 year clebration, plus it's close to when CO will be going live.

He said he thought that mission arcitect could stand on its own, however contrary to popular opinion he never said it would stand on its own.

IMO Power customisation & Addon pack (as in paid for expansion) due next year, Power customisation will be added at same time as addon but be free.

I agree with this but would add in going rogue as well for good measure.

Don't think its going to happen anytime soon though, but it would be nice.

Either wait for it to happen on CoX or wait for CO, both are lengthy waits

They might need to finish porting over all the power sets before they could make going rogue an option.

[/ QUOTE ]
Not sure about that - the ATs are so fundamentally different on blue and red side it won't make any difference whether or not power sets are available "natively" on each side.

Having a Poison-type set added for defenders hero side wouldn't particularly help if you wanted to take a Bots/Poison MM over, for example.

BaBs was the one who said it, but IIRC he also said that to achieve it in a reasonable timescale and to avoid (massive) bugs we wouldn't receive any new content for a year.

That would mean no bug fixes, no QoL fixes and most definitely no Issues, the main reason for this is that every time they update the live servers they have to do extra checks to ensure that in development content doesn't interfere with the new data or vice versa, with something on the scale of Power Customisation this could mean another 2 - 3 months work over a bug fix, and a complete rewrite of the system for anything larger.

So I don't see it coming anytime soon.

Do you recall if he said that before or after the staff increases at NCNC?

that was before.

Positron said I14 would be the MA because it was sufficient to stand on its own in a recent (ie just prior to I13) interview - check massively/recent threads here?

But... will the current crop of Devs be maintained consistently? I suspect that once I14 hits the shelves there will be a cutback and a smaller core will look after I15.

Only NCNC can say for sure, but there is a significant overhead in switching devs between products.

It takes a while (months, or even years) to get up to speed on development tools, code structure, conventions, etc... and once a team's got the hang of things for one product you really don't want to switch them somewhere else unless you have to.

(Or, from an alternate perspective, you only want to assign people to a project for short tasks if you absolutely have to - given the initial delay while they're learning the ropes it's not at all efficient.)

I think going rogue will be the addon pack. Still wondering at the title... City of Neutrality doesn't have a great ring to it. Based on the middle ground idea that I saw in a dev interview at some point anyway.

Thing is despite what the devs said about power customisation been hard, theres been mods going on for at least a year to change colours of powers etc.

If a mod can do it surely the creators of the game can manage the same thing?

Im not sure if there legal so i havent tried them but theres pictures up of coloured energy blasts for example that arent in game, plus theres already some slight changes in game anyway, for instance red electricity on villains and blue on heroes.

It can be done, the reason im thinking the devs said it was hard to do was because they were thinking of actual power fx changes not just colour, which would mean changing the entire animation, in which case i understand.

Even if its just colours though implemented it would still be a nice change.

Going rogue doesn't mean you'd be neutral - it's switching sides from good to evil, or from evil to good.

Yeah, but I believe those mods are only client side. YOU get to see purple Rad blasts, everybody else around you still sees green. Changing the powers in-game is much harder, because they have said that the colour is actually coded into the power.

Not necessarily

It could mean you enforce your version of good on those weaker than you by any means necessary. Regardless of consequence.

There are recent historical parallels

If its coded into it then surely its possible to get an overwriting code that works similar to the mods and basically code it so that everytime it fires, its coded to follow the same rule as your personal view does.

This sounds a little complicated here so il break it down, if i use power blast for instance and its set to work on a purple blast, the code could be changed so that the colour you have chosen client side effectively overwrites the original for your charecter server side, i mean surely it cant be hardcoded indefinately if it works client side. Thats already half the battle.

From what your saying this would require a lot of image files that would increase the size of the game for no needed reason, you would have to have something like red_healingaura and green etc, but if it was to be coded in it would know how to change the colour of the effect without needing any extra image files.

I believe this is why it would take so long to do, it would require a lot of re-doing graphics just to beheld to colourise the power in the Character Editor.
