Couldn't you, y'know, take that ranting someplace elsewhere?

This.
These point by point, walls of text explanations of what Venture didn't understand about your "awesome" arc bug me to no end. It was said that the best thing you could say in response is, "Thanks for the review," and that was it.
Still, it's up to Venture to speak out against them. This is his thread, and if the inane chatter doesn't bother him, then there's nothing I can say. -

Two reasons why /EA doesn't do it for me. Stealth that doesn't suppress while in combat, but you pretty much need to take it for its +def to psy(it gives def to all), and no taunt aura.
Even SR for brutes has a taunt aura. /Dark has unsuppressed stealth, but it has a taunt/damage aura.
With both of those, as a brute, you're almost required to take taunt, or some AoE to maintain your fury in a team.
Basically, it isn't well designed for brutes. -

Third, if I have counted correctly, I believe the last review posted is my 100th.
[/ QUOTE ]
Gratz on your 100th review Venture. I love the critical, and sometimes downright harsh reviews in your thread, and look forward to each new one. It's a real treat when I find this thread with new posts. Your reviews have really helped me refine my own arc(I think) before it's even been reviewed, and I look forward to any harsh treatment you give it.
Keep em coming! -
My ego took a blow last run, and I'm itching to redeem myself. Go TF Scranker!

... Bad eyes her newest Object of Hate: the Positron TF.
I say we take off and nuke the site from orbit - its the only way to be sure. Of course, this will involve multiple strikes on Steel, Atlas and Skyway as well, but any collateral damage is worth wiping this TF off the map - permanently.
[Yes we did finish.... gawd what an unenjoyable endurance-test. Take away my Unyielding and I become very grumpy indeed....]
[/ QUOTE ]have you done a shard task force? i know posi is bad, most of the launch ones are bad, but have you done a shard tf?
[/ QUOTE ]
No. I have two people who need to run one in order to get the Rulaaru weapons, but I have honestly never even seen a request to join one of these TFs in Broadcast. All SGs I am part of are far too busy running the ITF to consider it, I guess; I would lobby to change that, but the idea of a 12-hr TF makes my teeth hurt.

The Dr. Quaterfield can be done in 3 hours and 47 minutes with a team of 8 scrappers. -
You can count me in. Viva la Task Force Scranker!
Soul Fane: 50 DM/Invul Scrapper -
I've found that unless the tanker is using the actual Taunt power, being the first in, or delivering a lot of spike damage can put you over the Tank's threat when you have a taunt aura of your own.
One other thing to look out for is Willpower tanks. Their taunt aura is significantly weaker than standard taunt auras, like invincibility and against all odds. -

Nice, gratz!
I've only done 1 Dr. Q in my life time, and don't plan on doing it again. It took 6 hours.
But it can be done in as fast as 2 hours with stealth+tpers.
[/ QUOTE ]
We did stealth quite a few missions, though none of us had stealth powers...
Yeah, you read correctly.
No TP though, so the only choice was to just solo the spawns. Glorious... -
Fortunately, the frustration from scrapper death caused by Aeon's bubble of awesome not being properly shut down led to an all Scrapper Dr. Quarterfield TF (the 2 tanks on the team, you're honorary scrappers in my book). Done in 3:47. If that's not awesome, I don't know what is.

Would getting Smashing/Lethal Defense really help that much more in the big picture over covering Invulnerability Scrapper's weaksauce Resists to F/C or E/N?
[/ QUOTE ]
In quite a few situationsin the ITF, you'll have Cimeroran swords wacking you debuffing your defense into the red, and dark blasts from nictus blasting your now defenseless tush. -
My DM/invul doesn't bother with fire/cold defense. The amount of cold and fire damage out there that isn't paired with smashing or lethal is tiny, and not worth slotting for. Smsh/Lthl and Eng/Neg are your important ones.
4 Slotting reactive armor gives you defense to both of those, while still capping resistance enhancement and giving ~40% end reduction. It will save you quite a few slots.
4 slot Kinetic Combats + the 2 Crushing Impact triples will give you more than enough enhancement to all the important aspects of your attacks (acc, dam, rech, end).
Eradication you're already using, but I'd suggest 4 slotting it, just because the +HP is the biggest set bonus of its kind at +2.25%. You can actually get away with 5 slotting dragon's tail by putting a multistrike triple in the last slot.
One of the things I did with Invincibility and Weave was 5 slot Red fortunes(all but the Def/Rech) and put a LotG7.5 in the 6th slot. Max defense enhancement, max endurance reduction, and some pretty good set bonuses all around.
Last thing, if you're trying to fit Aid Self, my personal recommendation is to drop hover and Unstoppable. Yes, really... -
What I meant, the RWZ challenge has no defense debuffs, so one of willpowers bigger holes (in my opinion) isn't being tested.

My dm/invuln brute is tough enough where against anything short of multiple AVs I don't really have to worry about dying. I doubt willpower can say the same.
[/ QUOTE ]
Think again. We have a reliable report of a Willpower scrapper going AFK in the middle of a Rikti War Zone challenge spawn.
[/ QUOTE ]
My DM/Invul is AFK right now in the middle of said spawn while I type this message. I have Siphon Life on auto though. Took a while to find one with three soldiers. Hey, if a willpower gets to go AFK when their defense resistance isn't being tested, I don't have to go AFK with my lack of psy resists being tested.
And to Ryu: That Will in your sig. Is that your only one? You can't base your knowledge on how "teh awesome" willpower is when you pair it with Katana. By the same vein, my DM/invul is insane, regularly tanking for ITF's, but that doesn't make me an expert on how Invul performs by itself. -
Thunderstrike is a rather good set, as it gives two helpings of ranged defense, plus end recovery and global acc. It's a ranged attack set, so if you're claws or spines, or if you have room to slot an epic pool attack like dark blast.
If you have defenses from pool powers, red fortunes give some ranged defense at the 6th, as well as a damage bonus, and a recharge bonus.
PBAoE's will be you friend for AoE defense, via sirocco's dervish.
Failing all that, download mids, and look up specific set bonuses. It will give you a list of all the sets that give the set bonus you're looking for, as well as the magnitudes of each. -
/SR has actually been through quite a few changes.
Issue 0 it was at passives: 5%((11% enhanced) toggles: 10%(22% enhanced). Yes, really, this is what Gecko thought was balanced compared to toggle instant healing.
sometime down the line, they go up to 10% and 20% respectively. I-5 was the global defense nerf which brought them to what they are now, which is close to what they used to be(go figure), and I-6 was ED. The magic 45 was not in effect until I-7, and it was a rough 2 issues for some defense characters. -
Don't forget that while AV's resist tohit debuffs pretty heavily(85% at lvl 50), DM still has it in spades.
4 attacks in a DM chain will give you 22.52 -tohit. 15% of that is 3.37%. You can look at that as 3.37% defense to all positions. -

The way I see it:
Enhancing damage enhances the amount of damage you deal per endurance spent. It also increases the amount of damage you deal per attack, and thus increasing your DPS.
Enhancing Accuracy makes you hit more often, increasing your damage per second, and your damage per endurance, because you're wasting fewer attacks, but only up to a point where you cap acc.
Enhancing Recharge only cycles your attacks more frequently, giving you more DPS, and only if you have gaps in your attack chain.
Enhancing Endurance reduction only makes the damage you deal cost less, increasing your damage per endurance.
I repeat this mantra to myself when slotting DO's and usually max out on acc and as much damage as I can. But yeah, if you franken slot with IO's, you can have it all. -

Have you ever ran positron task force on a non wp, sd, or DA scrapper? If not, try it. What you experiance there is whats gonna happen to you the rest of the game until you respec that power back in.
[/ QUOTE ]Fixed, /Dark gets their mez protection pre-15, too.
[/ QUOTE ]
Minor nitpick. DA doesn't get knock back protection, and most of what you're facing in that TF is tons, and TONS, of earthquakes. -
Dark Regeneration is where end issues always arise from every /DA build. The more you use it, the more it seems futile to fight your end issues and embrace buying cabs every mission. The trick is to use it less and less, having other forms of mitigation that prevent you from leaning on it too heavily. Resists for DA have only ever really been enough to keep you up while waiting for DR to recharge. You're going to need more defense.
You have two options. Option one is relatively cheap: Go for tons of smashing/lethal defense. Reactive armors and kinetic combats. Slot weave more meaningfully, if you can, 5-6 slotting red fortunes gives great endurance reduction on your defense toggles, as well as capped defense enhancement, not to mention nice set bonuses.
The other option, is to try and get as much positional defense as you can. It's more encompassing than just going for smashing and lethal defense, but you have to make alot of sacrifices, and you generally have to spread your set bonuses across all three positions to be effective.
Both methods will require more slots in certain powers. I can make a couple suggestions on where you can save slots, and you can draw your own conclusions.
Conserve power: Doesn't need 3 recharges. With just 2 you won't notice the difference, and just 1 isn't as bad as it may sound.
Laser Beam eyes: I don't see why you need that attack, and it looks like a pretty expensive mule.
Oppressive Gloom: You can get away with 1 slot here, easy, if you need to.
Hasten: Same as conserve power, and with the amount of global recharge your packing, I don't see why you'd even need it period.
One last thing. Put some end reduction in Dark Regen for crying out loud. -

History abhors a paradox
We are arguing personal perception of a mechanic with very few stated laws in our current game universe.
My personal view is captured in the statement above. Sure you can go back in time and tinker. The problem is that it is like tossing a pebble upstream. The river just alters slightly and continues on it's chosen path. Try to mess with it too much and Time will hit you back, hard.
Send 50 of yourself to fight a team of Heroes and what happens? They happen to stumble upon a device that allows them to hurt you.
Of course the main problem is that CoH time mechanics are not spelled out in black and white. This leaves a lot for the reader to interperate. If the reader believes that Time Travel allows infinite access to resources then they will have a hard time believing that these will not be used.

History Abhors a Paradox -
Your accuracy is a multiplier to your tohit value.
With the standard loadout of 2 accuracy SO's per attack, you'll have 1.66 accuracy, and combat offense gives 10% additional accuracy, or 1.76 in the end. 1.76x.75=132% chance tohit(countered by higher level enemies and defense).
Leadership gives 10% to your tohit value. 1.66x.85=141% chance tohit.
Combat offense is also passive, and gives tohit debuff resistance, while leadership affects your whole team, gives a sizable perception buff, and grants some confuse and fear protection as well as resistance.
In my experience, Leadership is something you want to take early, but not sacrifice your offense or defense for, so late 20's or early 30's, and combat offense is something you take really late if you can afford to fit it in your build. -
Nice to see you're still watching the thread Stomp. I want to say that I loved the way you did the first review(minus the not seeing the glowie), with all the commentary and everything. It's hard to say whether or not you should cut out segments of your review because, for the viewer, it gives a good sense of how long, mindless, and boring a "Big map for no reason" is.
Anyway, I hope to see more of your work, and I hope to see more Brutin' with commentary. -

Means he's going to give it away in costume contests or just random acts of kindness to either SG mates, or random strangers.
I personally don't approve of this, as the inflated amount of currency in the game has deflated its value, and doing things like this only deflates it more-so.
For every billionaire that has made their billions flipping, crafting and marketeering, and not farming, I salute you. Not only are you pulling currency out of the economy via crafting fees and market fees, and not putting any extra in, only dealing with what's already on the market, you're also hoarding all that money you've earned, which will very likely never all be spent entirely by you, thus taking it out of the economy as well.
The billionaires that hoard their cash and do nothing with it increase the value of the influence/infamy by the simple fact that there is less of it, which is what this economy desperately needs.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sounds like you have no clue how the market works, or the game economy in general. Characters make way more influence/infamy just playing the game than any moneysink could ever take out of it. If you really wanted to slow down the flippers and ebil market pvpers, STOP LOWBALLING THE STUFF YOU'RE SELLING. You are in control, not them. They bid what they do because they know there's people just dumping stuff into the markets for cheap. Take their profit margins down past a certain point, and it becomes a waste of their time, and the people that are buying because they want to use your recipes/enhancements/salvage will still be buying it.
And Iltat is doing something with his billions. He's spreading it out amongst the players. He and the Pingus do it every year. The only reason he builds up his kitty is to give it away.
[/ QUOTE ]
Huh? What?
Read slower.
I LIKE MARKETEERS. I LIKE FLIPPING. Hell, I'm a flipper. It doesn't matter how little it helps to take your fair share of money out of the economy. It still helps.
People that receive those millions and millions of currency, basically for free, have not learned the value of that currency, and will not spend it wisely. It's like giving a kid a $100 bill and pointing him at a souviner stand in a tourist trap. He's going to pay $100 for the first thing he sees that looks cool, and if there are other people around, they will get the perception that that item is worth $100, and the perceived price goes up.
I aspire to make that much money. I'm still a budding marketeer, working on their first billion. I'll use it to fund myself, spend what will likely be only a small portion of it on builds I only once dreamed of. I will never give that kind of money away, because in this game everyone has a chance to make millions if they have the drive for it. Free hand outs, in my opinion, only train people spend it just as quickly as they obtained it, and to complain once they've spent it all. -
You do awesome work Cat. I've wanted a pool A/bronze list for forever. I can't wait for it to be finished.

To Nethergoat though:
your first argument, no you didn't want it. You wanted the money you were going to make off of it.
[/ QUOTE ]
So if someone buys it and crafts it to make inf...?
[/ QUOTE ]
If you buy it to craft it to make inf, yes, you didn't want it either, but at least you're selling it to a player, taking his/her money, losing 10% of it, and not creating money out of thin air. You're actually improving the economy that way, which is why I approve of marketeering, and marketeer myself.
edit: I feel like I should expand on my previous point. It's perfectly fine to want something for the sole reason of selling it to someone else for a profit, as long as that it's beneficial to the economy. That's capitalism. When you're selling an item to someone(the vendor) which pays you a price that has no regard for the market value of the item, the money they use comes out of thin air, and your item dissapears into obscurity and isn't used by its consumer, that's bad for the economy.
That'd be like selling your car to a guy(who has a money printer) for $100, no matter what condition its in, so he can throw it in the ocean.
