Thunderstrike is a rather good set, as it gives two helpings of ranged defense, plus end recovery and global acc. It's a ranged attack set, so if you're claws or spines, or if you have room to slot an epic pool attack like dark blast.
If you have defenses from pool powers, red fortunes give some ranged defense at the 6th, as well as a damage bonus, and a recharge bonus.
PBAoE's will be you friend for AoE defense, via sirocco's dervish.
Failing all that, download mids, and look up specific set bonuses. It will give you a list of all the sets that give the set bonus you're looking for, as well as the magnitudes of each.

Blessing of the Zephyr is a good one for ranged and AoE.
It goes in any travel power, including Combat Jumping and Hover (Recall Friend will take them too I think)
Slotting tw gives you ranged defense, slotting 3 gives you AoE.

Here's my DM/Regen Build. It's mostly transferable to Kat/Regen, but you'd be hard pressed to get identical equivalent slotting. It's a bit less regen focused than Santor's but it's got much more +recharge. Remember this: Obliteration sets are your friend. By far the best suite of set bonuses I've seen in any IO set.

Here's a build similar to mine I cooked up for you. Melee defense is a bit less important than ranged defense because you've got DA to give you loads of that (a single DA will give you 35.9% melee def), but it's got the recharge to maintain the all important GC>any attack string with the AH and Hecatomb proc in GC.

Let's see, Panacea has a 20% chance to heal 64.57 hp every 10 seconds. That's 1.2915 hp/sec (woo?).
[edit: Oh, assuming it's slotted in a passive / toggle.]
To compare that against a static regen rate:
Hp/Sec = (MaxHp * Regen) / 240
In this case, you're trying to compare 1.2915 hp/sec to 4% regen, so
1.2915 = (MaxHp * 0.04) / 240
309.96 = MaxHp * 0.04
7749 = MaxHp
So 4% regen would equal the Panacea if you have 7749 MaxHp, which is obviously impossible to attain. (With base hp, 4% regen is 0.223 hp/sec, at the hp cap it'd be ~0.4 hp/sec.)
So, the Panacea is stronger, but I'm dubious that 0.8915 to 1.0685 hp/sec worth the massive inf cost, esp since Regen has such little mitigation to begin with.
It will be going into that build that I have posted, but its cost/benefit doesn't seem to be worth it. It will also help out with my endurance recovery which is nice...

Looking at mids it shows that scrappers have 1339 for base hp, wouldn't that mean the unique would heal for 133.9 hp?

Okay I have another question.
In this build I would slot Panacea: Heal and Chance for HP/Recovery with just the heal I am at 741% regeneration but what would it be at with the Unique? Also in tough there would be the Gladiator's Armor: Resistance/Endurance and the Unique for would with Panacea's set bonus would increase my recovery by 5% not including the chance for recovery.

Thanks Umbral, I'm a BS user, so I might go with recharge more to get my attacks up more as well.
I'm having a hard time deliberating whether or not I want to change up a few slots for more recharge. I would gain 10% in recharge bonuses but I'd lose 2.5% defense to all positions and I'd lose 15% regeneration.
Can anyone shed some light on what losing that small amount would be?

The 15% +regen is largely unnoticeable, but, then again, I view giving more +regen to */regen as being largely redundant. Once you get more than 400% static +regen, it's no longer worth it to pump it imo. It just doesn't add as much as it would to stack up more defense or resistance. 15% +regen is only going to be a matter of 1.6 hp/sec whenever you're already packing more than 70 hp/sec. Like I said, large unnoticeable, especially when you consider that */regen gets a bonus of ~33 hp/sec with Recon (only 20 hp/sec with SOs though).
The big problem is the losing of the positional defense, though, considering that it's not approaching softcap, it's only a bit more noticeable.
Personally, I think you'd be better off just getting better enhancement bonuses in your powers. MoG is only barely slotted for recharge and it's one of the more important powers in */regen if you ask me. I'd argue that you're slotting FH more than it actually needs, especially since you're also slotting Health pretty heavily too. Unless you're specifically gearing for a high regen build, you'd probably have more success slotting for recharge over regen and putting defense at a strong second. Keep in mind that enhancement benefit is generally more important than the set bonuses a power gets unless you're specifically muling a power.
You also want to remember to turn on your accolades. You're currently packing more than 14% of largely redundant +hp (~200 hp) from slots that could be used for more useful recharge and defense.
Okay so this is the build that I've revised in place of the Miracles are going to be Panacea: Heal and Chance for Hit points and in place of the Imperviums are going to be Gladiator's Armor: Resistance/Endurance and +Defense.
