  1. That is a shame to see you go :/ Not going into the a too much doom post for the future of the game though. I wish you all the best, and thanks for everything. God speed.
  2. I haven't made an alt in over a year, only playing my two mains, my Scrapper and my VEAT. As such, the system so far is decent enough, if a bit dissapointing that only the first two of the Alpha are available for now.

Numberwise it is a decent boost, but not gamebreaking. Looking forward to the rest of the system.

However, the biggest positive thing I19 and the Incarnate System has is the effect on the community: The channels are full of (lv50) TF's being formed, and people want to actually fight through them now instead of speeding through stuff. So thats a big win in my book.
  3. Individuality. Simple as that. While I obviously enjoy the Superhero genre, I am pretty open to the setting, from high fantasy to steampunk to science fiction, I don't really have a preference.

In CoH however, I could look how I wanted, and not be forced into a look by the items I wear. This is a huge thing for me, I am so spoiled these days that I pass on games with minimal or no customization (if applicable of course), online or single player.

The fast game play, the animation, the freedom to solo (I played Final Fantasy Online before that, where soloing past level 10 is pretty much pointless) the general art style, the instancing etc. helped of course, but yeah, what first drew me into it that I can completely decide how I want to look, regardless of class and gear.

    Thank you

The original Skydance, the character, was a Martial Arts Scrapper, but the concept combined with the mechanics/powers didn't work out for me in the end. I still have the name reserved on Virtue, in case I want recreate her again, but for now, she isn't part of this universe (in another universe though, Skydance is busy defending a city from Dr. Destroyer and various other threats).

Sunwind is my main here, other then my VEAT the only character I (rarely) play these days.
  5. I have nothing to add really to this thread except that i wanted to comment on the awesome concept and looks. Very well done.
  6. Interesting thread

Some rules I have for myself:

    Creation
Name and costume must work on a (golden age) comicbook cover. When you see a comic cover with Wonder Woman on it, you know right away it is Wonder Woman, even without looking at the title, because of her looks: a distinct costume and color combinations. I want something similar for my characters, so that means a noticeable pattern, color combination, matching gloves/boots/belt and (usually) chest symbol. I imagine when I fly down to rescue a civilian, they should go, hey, blue and black costume with a golden symbol.. that is Sunwind.. hooray! A bit silly maybe, but there you have it

Something similar for the name, it has to sound good in a title like: "The Amazing Adventures of Sunwind", also I prefer single word names. The name also has to be somewhat related to either the powers or her origin.

    Concept
While I don't roleplay really, I tend to think and act in concept. As such, all the powers have to make sense on why that character has them. Even if the concept is something simple like hit by radiation blast triggering latent mutated DNA strings, it has to fit (for me anyway).

    Game mechanics
While the concept rule above is binding, the character also has to be at somewhat effecient in combat (since I love combat). So I always try to work the concept into what powers are available in the game, and find a happy medium between the two. I realize what the game can do, and work with what is available for my concept. That means some concepts never leave the planning stage, since the game mechanics simply won't allow it to work at a level I expect from my characters.

As for what I expect from a character in combat effeciency:
    - has to be able to solo at what I consider a reasonable speed, and be able to defeat any EB a mission throws at me(temp powers are ok if its not a common thing)
    - has to be fun both in solo and team setting (for example, I hate playing a Kin in a team, simply because I hate buffing, I guess I burned out on that on my Cleric a long time ago in the Dreadlands)
    - for my melee characters: has to be able to do the RWZ Challenge with a success rate of at least 50%. Anything above that is nice but not needed.

    Me
I play the game from the perspective of 'what if I had superpowers'. As such, all my characters are in a way an extension of me, projected into the game world. So no males, robots, monsters, aliens, non-humans etc. I tried playing those, but ultimately I didn't feel comfortable, and none of those got passed the teens. *shrug*

    Combat
In a mission (solo), never ignore a spawn if I see it. That means, while I don't threat all missions as a defeat all, I usually fight my way to the objective, and any spawn I see on the way, has to be fought. No exceptions. If it is there, I fight it, even if the mission is already completed.

Never be the first to leave a mission (team). So for example on an ITF, second mission, last cyst is down and mission completes. If there are still mobs, I keep on fighting, at least until the team leaves. More often then not I keep fighting until kicked out because the next mission is selected

Never quit a fight. Unless the team as a whole decides to quit, I will never give up, even if it seems impossible.

Never quit a team during a TF or while a (single) mission is running. There are some exception, like extreme rude/sexist behaviour, but luckily, it never has come to that yet. Finish the fight, then quit if not having fun.

Fiery Melee: All fire sword attacks should have alternate animations with no sword. Ideally, all current non fire sword attacks should have a variant with the sword.

The swords are don't really fit my concept at all. So I'd love to have a fiery, but no sword animation, especially for Fire Sword Circle. Likewise, I can think of a number of concept where it would fit much better if all attacks had the fire sword out.

    Thank you.
  9. Deleted one lv50 Brute, for reroll/name/concept reasons when Willpower came out, which fitted her much better. In hindsight, should have bought a rename or transfer, since the reroll stalled at 22 for various reasons. I do still have a copy of her on Test though.

If I take a character to 50, I am usually attached to them. Not only gameplay wise, but they have their little stories, a concept, a small history. I don't think I could delete them, even if nearly all of them don't get any playtime except Sunwind.

This is of course hard to beat.

Otherwise, people. Reason why I solo mostly anyway. I log on to CoH to escape the RL crap a bit, and the last thing I want in my happy place is having to deal sexist, rude, arrogant, eletist, stupid etc. people.

More seriously, lately, running out of things to do, lack of high level content added. I like playing my Scrapper at 50, and after 6 years, it's getting hard to find things worth logging in for. Of course, one could argue, hey, you had fun for 6 years, thousands of hours, that's pretty good for a game, isn't it? And while I have to agree of course, the thing is, 'because' I like the game in general, I'd like to keep playing... just there isn't much to do anymore for me. GR is (for me and my playstyle and what I want from the game) a gigantic letdown. I guess it's Issue 19 or the highway for me *shrugs*
  11. ITF, a year ago or so:

    Quote:
Wasn't a stellar ITF to begin with, but we were getting along. I think I was playing a Controller or Blaster, not sure, it's been a while.

Anyway, we got through it up to the last mission slowly, some deaths, and we lost 3 people due to either Linkdead, or they just logged out. We made it to Rommi, and wipped the first try. As said, the team wasn't that great, but we had still had decent chance. We got (the first) Rommi to half before we wiped, so I'd say it could have worked with some teamwork, planning, maybe splitting the healer etc. Not fast or elegant, but still doable.

So here we are, discussing plans after the wipe when the less then stellar brute says: "Yeah, let me get some inspirations" and drops down an Ouroboros portal (mind you, this is a mixed team of heroes and villains). Everyone types "NOOOOOOOO, don't use it, you get dropped from the team" etc. Brute klicks anyway, and gets kicked from the team. That was that.

At this point, we kinda agreed that this wasn't worth it, and disbanded
I usually solo, so I don't have much PuG stories to share, for better or worse. I got another crappy ITF experience, that wasn't really a PuG though, but people from a global channel that really should have known better, but that doesn't belong here.

Ah well, win some, lose some.
  12. - Offline Supergroup invites.
    - Alphabetic listing for all costume pieces at the tailor
    - Leftmouse click+hold for free camera movement, instead of middle mouse, with a snap back to original camera postion if a movement key is pressed. Similar to most games of this type.
    - Zoom via mousewheel in the tailor screen. Rotate mit left mouse clicked.
  13. Leaving the numbers out for a moment, as others can provide better feedback then me, I'd suggest approaching this with a different angle:

Which one of those is the most fun for you to play?

They are all decent choices, and with enough investment each can be made quite formidable.

You will be spending a lot of time on that character solo and in teams, so go with the one who 'feels' the most fun for you. This can be based on the look, the costume, the name, the social connections of that particular character, RP reason, the animations and the flow of combat with that particular set, or even badges (maybe some of anniversary badges).

It's a Scrapper, so it will kick **** regardless. However, at least in my opinion, if you spent that much time and virtual money on a character, it should be one you enjoy the most in and out of combat.

All things being equal though, I'd look into the DM/Shield.
  14. I think I spent somewhere around 1.5-2 billion of actual Inf. on Sunwind, however, by todays prices it would cost a lot more, maybe 6-8 billion or so, no idea really, don't want to spent time researching that now. Much of her regular IOs are still from the Katie days, buying a lv30 LotG for 7.5m, Kinetic Combat for less 100k a piece, stuff like that. I got a good number of her recipes myself as drops from the Katie/Eden mass farming days.

The purples I didn't get as drops I bought for 20-40million when they came out, and the two PvP IOs she has (3%Def, Panacea proc). I bought for about 400million a piece.

    *shrug*

Was a good bit cheaper back then

Don't worry, it will. Crowd Control is an amazing power. While only a melee cone, the 180° arc and the max targets of 10 makes very user friendly. The damage is good, and the visual effects, the knockdown and the crunchy sound are quite satisfying and fun It's easily my favorite bane attack power, you won't be dissapointed.

Otherwise, very entertaining and enjoyable journal Dusk
  16. Heya Vixen, haven't seen you in a while on Virtue.
    Excellent piece of art

    Weak to What

Maybe have a look at Culex guide on that: Link
  18. I hope I am not the only one who, without thinking, clicked on one of the blue arrows below the character to turn him/her around :/

Having been on a few TFs with both Dechs Tank and Transhades Scrapper, and saw what they can do, it's save to say that Dark Armor is quite far from any 'suck' if you know what you are doing.

Like long hair (Glam, Hard Candy) and just about any cape?

I do think that should be up to the creator of the character, not some odd clipping rules that the Devs not really follow either. Some things 'will' clip, no way around this with the current engine. The player should make the choice.

P.S. The Devs need to give us a new version of female Bikini 2 bottoms with the "Sleek" texture so they can match up with the "Sleek Tights" tops.
You know, if they'd make a Booster Pack where that would be the only featre, I'd buy it in a second.

Bonus points for throwing in 'Sleek Tights' face masks, so they match the rest of the costume.
  22. Very nice so far Dusk, looking forward to reading this journal as it develops
  23. I mentioned this in the 'All things art' thread, so apologies in advance for repeating this, but given the topic I think it fits better here.

While it is not the case of a lost costume piece, but an alteration to the upper leg area of females with certain costume pieces that I would prefer to get back to their original state.

Female Bottom with Skin: Upper leg reduction
Many issues ago, I believe when the skirt costume were altered/rearranged, the female > bottom with skin > upper legs area were altered (for most pieces, not all), I assume to avoid some clipping issues with skirts. This is fine if you are actually wearing a skirt, however, this 'feature' appeared in the 'bottom with skin' section since then as well.

To show what I mean here is a picture (the green overlay area I added in to show the reduction with certain pieces), it is very easy to see if you switch back and forth between Bikini1 and 2 looking at the character from the side:

I still hope to this day that this hideous (IMO) upper leg reduction you see with Bikini2 and many other bottom with skin pieces gets fixed.
