Hi, sorry to all, I'm a newbie to this game, just came over from WoW.

I'm still on a trial account, but I have some questions to ask...
    Welcome to the game!

    Quote:
I've tried and tested several characters, and I think my favourite is a Demon Mastermind and a Stalker. (Btw I thought Stalkers were supposed to be locked until I leveled at least one character to level 20, but somehow it unlocked itself the 3rd or 4th time I logged on.. On day 2 I believe.)
Stalkers are available from lvl 1. Hero Epic Archetypes(HEATS) and Villain Epic Archetypes(Veats) Unlock one you lvl a hero or villain to 20 respectively.

    I'm playing on Freedom atm.
Sorry to hear that. J/K... Freedom is a high population server that gets stereotyped as Freedumb...

    Quote:
Is there a major differences to choosing your origin?
Nope. Just determines your first mission contact for heroes (Not Villains) and your origin power.

    Quote:
I've heard that choosing the Science origin gives you slightly harder enemies at the start. Other than that, and storyline, is there a difference? I keep going Science because I like the fact that your Science ability gives you a chance to Sleep mobs.
Looks like you almost answered that yourself. A very good reason to pick Science origin is because you like the power. In fact, I recomend that is how you make all your decisions

    Quote:
When I get the chance to respec in the future...

Do I get to rechoose origins? I know I CAN'T rechoose powersets, but I couldn't find anything about Origins.
Nope, you can never rechoose your origin unless you delete the toon, and start all over.

    Thank you!!
    You are very welcome.

PPS: Are EM Stalkers still as overpowered in single target DPS? I tried both EM and DB, I kinda prefer the DB animations more... =)
No idea, but if you like DB more, go with that
    Quote:
PPPS: Demon Mastermind? I heard it's the most powerful Mastermind, but the demons just remind me of Warlocks and their Imps from WoW, which I'm trying to get away from. I like the idea of Ninja Masterminds, but I've heard they are somewhat weak. Fast, albeit, but weak.
The most powerfull henchmen for masterminds are debateable, however, Bots, Thugs, and Demons are at the top. Ninja's are good, but made out of tissue paper. Of course, you can learn to account for that.

Claws. Brutes unfortunately don't have spines.

    Help a noob out

Fire/Rad is rather safe, as your debuffs will have the mobs hitting you much less as well as you hitting them much harder, and flooring their regeneration(How quick they heal back hp) Your self buffs will help you enormously.

Fire/Kin is a little riskier as you need to be in melee to take advantage of most of your buffs/debuffs, however, once you learn to walk that line reliably in large spawns, your damage will be capped, with unlimited endurance, a great heal, and really nice reacharge. The mobs will be hitting softer, and their regeneration will be lowered as well.

Fire is really strong with aoe's, so the larger the spawn you can handle, the better you will do.

    Best AOE combo?

    Bots/Storm MM
    Spines/Fire Scrapper
    Fire/Fire Blaster
    Fire/Fire Dom
    Fire/Fire Tank
    Fire/Dark Corr
    Fire/Storm Corr
    Elec/SD Scrapper/Brute
    SD/Elec Tank

    I'm really curious.
Stop with this whole "use your inspirations" thing. Inspirations are meant to stay in your tray untill you REALLY need them. Heretic.
  8. Most of my toons name themselves. Puns are fun (Plant/rad troller = Radiation Leek, Elec/Shield scrapper = Ohmie D Clown) I have an all lizard themed personal SG.... My farming toons are named after harvesting combines... Too many toon idea's, not enough slots.
  9. Has anyone done the math to figure out how much faster people will be lvling in the 1-20 level span with fitness as an inherent?

    I would if I could, but I can't, so I won't.

Depends who is driving the toon.

Same with scrolling the view to see my toon from the front. I went into the options, saw that PGUP should work but its not. Im so used to playing on my PC that I forget all what keys or mouse buttons that should be held down to accomplish these two things. The laptop has a separate NUMPAD as well. Thanks for any help!
If pgup/pgdown doesnt work, try the + and - keys on your numpad.

I would like to change my recommendation to lvl up the spines to level up your elec/sd(brute?). Even with the adjustment to shield charge, it is still probably the best farmer in the game after an elec/sd scrapper. Possibly better than a fire/kin.

Learning to market takes a little time, once you have it figured out though, it just takes minutes a day!

It's not just what AT/Primary/Secondary you use to farm with, but also what it is you are farming. Matching the right enemy group to farm can help when making a toon you are aiming to farm with. For example with the buff to Fire Armor it's very easy to run the Demon farm mission or in the AE over and over, probably even without IO's. Any AT can farm, some better than others, but even if you only farm a mission once or twice a day, or even just a week, it's worth it.
Good advice. However, IOing out a farm toon makes it easier to ignore what it is you are farming. In the end, they are all just bags of influence.

Softcapping a farming build seems like an extreme waste of time and money. You get so many insps that you can't possibly use them all as fast as they drop. You only need about 25% to all positions to "effectively" softcap while farming by using the purples. Hell, on my elec/elec brute I'm usually in the 80s to all positions and capped on resistance just using inspirations.
One of the nice things about building for recharge on a farm toon is you get a whack of +def along with it. Yes you can cap defence with inspirations, but we don't have a +recharge skittle.

I would go with the spines/da then. I will be the first to admit I am biased towards spines though.

Honestly, the best way to raise inf in the game is through the market. Sure, by all means farm, but spend some time learning the market and you will be making inf hand over fist when you aren't even logged on.

Mix of inf & recipes to sell?):

    Fire/Storm Cont
    Stone/Elec Brute
    Bot/Dark MM
    Arach Soldier
    Widow
    DB/WP scrap
    SS/DA brute

[Yes, I've been here since launch and I only have 7 50s. What!? I'm easily distracted.]

I also have a spines/da scrap in the 40s, in case that's a better option.
I would lvl up the spines/da scrapper and run with that. If you secondary build the soldier into a crab build, that might work as well. All depends on what kind of pace you want to set.
  18. 2 Fire/Trap Coruptors. Double FFG, Double seekers to take alpha, debuffs out the wazoo, hold em with PGT, and finish them off in full safety with fiery aoe goodness.
  19. Bots/Traps are a fantastic pair. Running FFG, manouvers and the shield from your bot, your(and the bots) def is pretty much capped. Add a little +res from your patron shield, and bodyguard mode on top of all that, and you are very sturdy. The alpha should be taken by the seekers, not your bots, no need to heal them then. I rarely need to drop a triage beacon.

Traps is probably the most versitile secondary being able to steamroll a mission, or take your time, and set everything up just right. It only depends on your playstyle.

Bots/Storm is my personal favorite. Again, pretty easy to cap defence, but also able to debuff the spawns ToHit severely. Very tough. Add in the massive debuffs of freezing rain, and your bots will rip the shreds out of everything. That is before Storms damage capabilities kick in. With practice, you will be able to lock down a spawn and take advantage of the bots aoe's while contolling the knockback. Very, very potent combination.
  20. Spines/Fire Scrapper. With the changes to burn, bosses dont even slow me down any more.

Burn atm provides very time limited immobilization protection, I have found myself often in a span immob situation, and frankly burn just don't cut it, the immob break free seems to only work within the field of fire, and as soon as I step out of the fire I can be immobilized again...

...I would love to see were Fire Aura would give me KBP MAG 12, and Plasma Aura give me Immob mag 12 resistance.
If the immob prot only works for you in the burn patch, I would check with Castle to see if that is working as intended. As for the mag res, it already gives the same res as practiced brawler in the SR set.

Finally, I gotta say, with the +fear removed from burn, I will be spaming that **** like the good old days, never having to worry about being immob'd in the first place.
  22. Usually depends on the toon. Blasters/Corrs - Aggrotech, Tanks - Metal, Scrappers/Brutes - Industrial, Trollers - usually a smattering of EBM. Of course no playlist is complete without a bit of boss or wife and child aggro.

I've seen the same trend in other games.
It was a sound observation.... a year ago. The game has changed much since then, notably that V/Heats unlock at 20 now.

Please. You new kids have no idea how hard it was back in the day. You wouldn't believe how many times I sent the whole map of us to chase down some cowardly hero, only to figure we have him cornered when he jumped into a dumpster. 250 of us wailing on him only to be snuck up on by some blaster itching to inferno. You should be glad for the aggro cap.
