SS/Fire brute vs Spines/Fire scrapper

A friend and I are having a debate on which AT would fair better against purely mobs that deal smashing and fire based damage.

He is saying I won't be able to last with a lot of mobs even by eating purples.

Basically does anyone have any experience they can share with us about these two sets so we can determine which will be able to kill the fastest with the least amount of tax.

SS/Fire is better, hands down.

Why? Because Brutes have a taunt inherent. Without the taunt inherent, the mobs don't cluster around you easily, and run much, much faster. This makes farming through mobs of enemies much slower, and less efficient.

Survivability on the two is roughly the same. The SS/Fire is a bit tougher due to the knockdown from Footstomp, and Brutes slightly higher HP, but overall its not a major difference.

Even with Rage crash considered? SS/Fire Brute..Not even close-especially if we're talking a farm toon.

SS/Footstomp + Brute survivability + Fury is just THAT good on a farm toon.

Ping me at @Psion or Psion2.

Especially if you happen to be running the Behemoth farm. An un-IO'ed out SS/Fire can easily farm +2x6 without that much effort on Behemoth.

My spines/fire runs behemoth at +3/8 with out much effort.

Depends who is driving the toon.

Harvey Maylor was a jerk and wouldn't give my brute the arc so I can't compare my toons

Definitely. You know how 40% defense is half as good as 45% defense? Resistance works the same way. 80% resistance lets 20 out of every 100 points of dmg through, and 90% cuts that in half to 10%. Since Scraps cap out at 75%, brutes will be a little over that 2x as resiliant to the fire portion of the damage, which is over half of it on demons. So the brute will have more hp and that bit of resistance will help with a large overall damage reduction as well.

/fire brutes are pretty good. my elec/fire really increased inf, tickets and defeats per min.

a spines/fire with the new firery embrace is pretty good on paper but not sure as i dont have one slotted and cant benchmark.

i have poked around a bit with my dm/fire and the morale break thingy gets very annoying.

It's never much *effort*. /Fire just doesn't die on the Behemoth farm unless you are terrible. But I can pretty much assure you that a SS/Fire will kill faster on it, just due to the taunt aura.

I've farmed with Spines/Dark scrappers and my SS/Fire brute. The SS/Fire is like pressing an easy button, because of the taunt.

...And the Spines/Dark had waaaaaay more IO investment then the SS/Fire.
