Best AOE combo?

So, I'm wondering if anyone knows the most damaging, balls-out, AOE-rapefest archetype combo that exists. I've grown kinda bored with playing support, and I'd really just like to see a slew of big numbers growing out of the heads of my enemies. I mostly plan on playing in groups with this character, and I'm sure most tanks will hate me as all the mobs turn and 1-shot me.

So far I tried out Storm/Elec Defender. I've only gotten to 15 but there's quite a few AOE options I've taken and it's fun...but I feel like there's a lot better out there. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Fire/Fire/Fire Dominator deserves a mention: Fire Breath, Combustion, Hot Feet, Fireball and Rain of Fire, plus old-school 30 sec duration Firey Embrace

This. Fire^3 Dominator puts out crazy amounts of AoE damage. More safe and better for teams than a Blaster too because of all the mezz they bring.

Elec/Fire Blaster, Bots/Dark Mastermind, Fire/Dark Corruptor

Those would be my top 3 in no particular order.


I am the Blaster, I have filled the role of Tank, Controller and Defender
Sometimes all at once.
Union EU player! Pip pip, tally ho, top hats and tea etc etc

Then there is always the insanity of a Rad/Fire Blaster...

You can have 4 AoE's by level 10 (Irradiate-PBAoE, Electron Haze-Cone, Combustion -PBAoE, Fire Sword Circle-PBAoE). Latter on you can add Neutron Bomb, Hot Feet, Blazing Aura, Burn, Atomic Burst (the nuke) and even Consume. Though it is more of a melee blaster.


Winter-storm 50 Ice/Storm Troller
Speedburn 50 Fire/Storm Troller
Abnormality 50 Spines/Fire Scrapper
Ice Mite 50 Ice/Stone Tank
Warriorstar 50 SS/Elec Brute

That changes things, all of the ones on my list operate best in melee. All of the best AoE choices, IMO, involve PBAoEs, especially if we want to descirbe it as balls-out. However, some ranger builds can come close and are also very interesting to play.

The Fire^3 Dom could be made a ranger, but Hot Feet is really good, so just like the /Fire blaster it wants to be in melee.

Fire/Men blaster is a good choice. But the best ranger I have played is a Rifle/Mental blaster, although an Archery/Mental might be even better (although the Rifle blossoms sooner).

VEATs can make some nice ranger builds as well, IME.

Fire/Dark Corruptors are wicked good with Tar Patch + Rain of Fire + Fire Ball + Fire Breath, and Fire has great single target powers to back it up as well.


Why Blasters? Empathy Sucks.
So, you want to be Mental?
What the hell? Let's buff defenders.
Tactics are for those who do not have a big enough hammer. Wisdom is knowing how big your hammer is.

eh, No one has mentioned a fire/kin controller? /e boggle.

For melee range a rad/fire/elec blaster or a spines/dark/blaze scrapper.

For a ranger an AR/Energy/Elec would be my choice. All the cones and boost range play very nicely together.

I haven't seen SS/Fire Brute mentioned, that would be my top choice.

If its pure damage, low survivability, you want, experienced blasters rule with regards to AOE damage output. I can recommend
- fire/fire blaster (abit melee centric)
- arch/fire blaster (mostly targeted AOE centric, rain of arrows is just awesome, no end downtime and shootable everymob if you boost rech enough)

If you like to survive for longer periods of time , theres several nice AOE builds, ive lvled to 50 and can recommend
- Fire/fire/fire brute
- Spines/DA/dark scrapper
Im able to tank well on both up to +2s, the spines/da needs alot of work to have a viable build endurance wise, but is extremly fun playing, and feels like a lawnmover, both herding and killing well

I've got high level Blasters (fire/elec, fire/en, fire/ice, elec/fire, en/fire [DO NOT WANT], sonic/mental, ice/ice and probably a couple others) and here is what I have to say:

Elec/fire does not actually provide the rated output of AOE. Its mostly PBAOEDOT (M-i-c, k-e-y...) so you have to zoom into the middle of a group, survive for five or six seconds while essentially using taunt auras, and then escape, throwing Ball Lightning on the way out if you last that long.

IF you have good buffs on your team you MAY live. Oh, and if you die all your DOT stops. That's an annoying new twist on matters.

Fire blast gives you enough damage in Firebreath/Fireball to wipe out even-con minions without using Build Up or Aim. Nothing else really does that. [Mmmmaybe ice/mental.] So, secondaries...

/ice gives you barely enough mitigation to live, often. (Shiver is huge in all senses. Sometimes it aggros the next mob.)
/elec and /en give you really good, really fast melee attacks to fix those pesky survivors. I actually prefer /elec because Inferno/blue/Powersink works better for me than Conserve Power/inferno/blue. And it's zappier!
/mental (my wife has fire/mental) gives you ANOTHER CONE, and it gives it to you early. Great stuff. The third cone also cuts enemy recharge, so it's even sort of defensive!

My single greatest Blaster Moment came on a Fire/Elec. I wiped out about 20 guys in about 10 seconds. BU, Aim, FB/FB (left spawn), jump, Inferno (right spawn.) And I actually lived.

So, nothing against Archery or Dominators or Corruptors, but I vote strongly for Fire/Mental blaster. My second choice is Fire/Elec. Mmm, fulminating!

StratoNexus touched on VEATs, but that's really my recommendation. Not only do you get enough AoE powers to make a completely AoE build (with exception of a tier 1 power) You also get an AoE immobilize that negates Knockback. the latter part is really important when you team, let the Brute (or now, tank) herd everyone up, then drop that wide area web grenade and let everyone go completely crazy with their AoE KBs and/or Rains.


All that is planned fails. All that is born dies.
All that is built crumbles. This will always be true.

But memories remain, And that is beautiful.
