Quote:Except it doesn't look like you're even softcapped to AoE. If you're in a position where you actually *need* the massive amounts of overcapping you've built into melee and especially ranged - despite huge amounts of DDR - then the AoE damage you'll be taking during that fight is likely to shred you.Forgot to mention, I also planned this out with the high possibility of defense debuffs in mind, so it would seem that getting up nicely over the softcaps would be desirable, if that actually provides a buffer of sorts against debuffs.
Also, I understand that you slotted the entire Numina's set in Aid Self for the defense bonus, but I just wanted to be sure you're aware that putting the unique in a click power makes it so that it only goes off when you actually use the click, rather than being on all the time. -
Not only that, but if you decide to do a second Bane/Huntsman build in addition to your primary Crab build, the leg backpack will also be visible on the non-Crab build.

Reiterating what Syntax said about positional vs. typed defense: Since Willpower already comes with some native typed defenses, it's going to be easier to hit higher numbers of defense if you stack more typed defense bonuses (Smashing/Lethal, Energy/Negative) on top of what you already have rather than starting from scratch trying to build up melee defense.
Other than that, one thing I noticed was some of the odd choices you made when selecting *which* IOs of a set to include. For example, you've 4-slotted Quick Recovery with Performance Shifters for the recovery bonus. However, you've included the Acc/Recharge from the set when QR is an auto power which doesn't benefit from either Accuracy or Recharge; switching this out for one of the IOs which actually enhance EndMod would give you better bang for your buck.
You've done the same sort of thing with your choice of Numina's in High Pain Tolerance, another auto power which needs neither end reduction nor recharge, and Luck of the Gambler in Maneuvers, which doesn't need the recharge you're slotting unless you're planning on getting detoggled an awful lot. Don't ignore the actual enhancement values for your powers while you're racking up those set bonuses. -
Quote:I do see veteran builders do this, but it's often because the underslotted powers are being used as set mules and aren't actually part of their optimized attack chain, which *is* slotted very well. New builders are probably more likely to underslot unintentionally; experienced builders are more aware of the tradeoffs they're choosing.New builders? I see veterans do this and swear their toons are the greatest because of their sky high defense. Great, but you can't do damage for ****.
Of course, nobody's perfect. -
I just want to point out one mistake that a lot of new builders tend to make: Chasing set bonuses and ending up with poorly slotted powers. I see a lot of people doing things like only 4-slotting their best attacks with Kinetic Combats for the defense bonuses - great if you're going for Smashing/Lethal defense, but those attacks will have piss-poor accuracy and middling damage. The Obliteration PBAoE set with its yummy melee defense bonuses looks great for damage auras - except it's awful on endurance reduction, and those damage auras take a LOT of end to run.
Players just starting out with creating builds will do well to figure out how best to enhance their powers first, and *then* worry about chasing set bonuses while maintaining as much of that enhancement as possible. Don't ruin your best tools. -
Quote:Did Posi actually confirm the I12 slots as being available at Premium? I know the two GR purchase slots will be, but I didn't think he had included the I12 slots in the global token list.
+2 if your account was active during I12 when 2 unlocks were given out to celebrate the NCSoft purchase of CoH
Edit: Per Posi's post here, the I12 slots aren't mentioned as being available unless you're VIP.
"If you are not paying for your account in City of Heroes Freedom, this is how many characters you'll have access to:
BASE FREE/PREMIUM ACCOUNT: 2 characters, total
OWN GOING ROGUE BEFORE FREEDOM LAUNCH: Add 2 more characters
PER YEAR OF PAST SUBSCRIPTION: Add 1 character per year
PER PURCHASED CHARACTER SLOT (beyond standard 12 per server): Add 1 character per slot purchased" -
Quote:The phrasing in the original post with use of such pejorative terms as "angst-ridden" and "tirades" makes it seem less like you really want to know what "makes people tick" and more as though the answer you both want and expect is "Well, these posters are obviously mentally unbalanced and emotionally unstable, so you shouldn't listen to them and neither should the devs."While I understand your inference, the fact of the matter is, I genuinely would like to understand why people get so worked up over changes in the game. .... I am simply fascinated with what makes people tick and I prefer to discuss things bluntly.
Especially when you make statements like the following:
Quote:The only logical conclusions I have been able to make are either they are sock-puppets for other games, just enjoy being upset or have no other outlet in RL where they think they are heard.
Quote:It just does not make any logical sense to me to get as worked up as some posters and players seem to over changes and what-not in the game.
Quote:I don't see, logically, how playing a game you hate can be healthy for you either. One of the most well know exchanges of "Doctor, it hurts when I raise arm" "Then don't raise your arm" comes to mind.
Quote:Regardless of your interpretation of any previous posts, any of my (admittedly) snide comments and insults fired at anyone show nothing more than my, sometimes uncontrollable, frustration. I simply happen to get 'riled-up' over people and viewpoints just like anyone else does.
Quote:In the specific cases that I have gone on the offensive, my frustration has generally been aimed at ideas and viewpoints that IMO were trying to make changes to the game based upon purely emotional arguments.
Nor are the people you're complaining about. Think about it. -
You can slot a higher level proc, but the power it's in still has to be available for the proc to fire. Assuming you have inherent Fitness (which becomes available at level 2), level 50 Numina's, Miracle or Performance Shifter procs in Health/Stamina will work exemped to any level. But a proc slotted in a power that's greyed out won't work.

This is incorrect. However, you may already have the ability to unlock an AT through vet status. We still don't have the exact details (Posi was somewhat vague).
-
Quote:Correct. As a former subscriber, you would be downgraded to Premium status, which includes only 2 automatic character unlock tokens. If you don't have any slots purchased or earned through vet rewards, you'll have to choose which two characters you want to play, or pony up for additional slots. If I switch to F2P and I have all 8 slots full of characters and have none purchased or earned through rewards. Would I not be able to play 6 of my 8 already made characters? and if two of them are Epic AT's that are already 50, I will not be able to play them as well?
In addition, AT unlocks are separate from the slots. If you don't have sufficient vet status for an automatic AT unlock (the conditions for this are still a bit vague), you'll have to pay for the unlock before you can use a gated AT character, even if you have a free slot available. -
Quote:It sounded to me as though the boosters as prepackaged units of multiple items will no longer be available, although the pieces themselves will be purchaseable individually. I think the fear is that having to buy everything you want separately will be quite a bit more expensive than getting everything included in a single pack. From what I got, they aren't going anywhere, so I don't understand what you are saying. We can now buy them with these paragon points, which means if we just keep up our 15 a month, we can get the boosters free, which is great for me, because I never liked the idea of paying money to get a few flashy powers in game, or costume sets. This way, I keep up the 15 a month and can eventually get the boosters anyway.

Quote:Technically, F2P players will only have access to the First Ward *zone*, not the actual content within it.Ah, I read it wrong. It looks like the free accounts will only have access to the new First Ward.
From the Issue 21 Overview page:
"*All players can enter First Ward, but to play its missions you must be a VIP player or purchase that content from the Paragon Market" -
It'd be nice if they let you keep the ATs if you actually purchased CoH/CoV rather than receiving one along with the other. After all, access to the 5 basic ATs per game was one of the features of the boxes.
-
Unless I missed a new announcement (entirely possible, given the pace of posting today), Controllers and Masterminds will be gated archetypes, not available to F2P players unless paid for separately. I think that's what Amy_Amp was referring to.

Quote:When you unsub, dropping you from VIP status to Premium, all of your character slots are locked. You receive a number of unlock tokens equal to 2 + your veteran slots + any purchased slots. You then choose which of your characters you wish to unlock. Any other characters will remain locked but will not be deleted or lost. If you return to VIP status, all your characters will be unlocked again.I too am concerned about what happens if I unsub for a while and return, are all of my toons nuked down to 2 per server and the rest lost?
Note that the 2 automatic slot unlocks for Premium players are global, not per server. -
Congratulations and best wishes!

How does Alpha level shift affect this? Would you need to be fighting level 51 mobs, since they con even?

Quote:Do you even know what HeroStats is? It collects the data from your play session and makes it more accessible. It *is* in-game information, "real data." It doesn't work if you don't actually play.Like pointing out other web sites...do you even use hero stats for eaxmple for real data no...do you you use ingame information...no...its called you are spouting about using a program and not even playing and talking about numbers you got from a web site...thank you for proving my point about what you play or dont play.

Quote:Phew. I didn't get it either, and was afraid they'd changed something while I was on break!I'm not sure that I see the issue. Yes, doing the morality issue gave you a fame point. But it also counted as a hero tip, and filled your meter partway. If that filled you to 10, then the Alignment mission will still drop for you - those don't care about your fame points. And in doing your Morality Mission, the guy who joined you would have gotten his first "Hero tip".
The only way this could have impeded the OP's progress is if the team member was actually running a different alignment, in which case OP could have ended up with only 9 hero points.
As long as the bar is full, the Morality Mission *will* drop - it just might take a few more mobs. -
One thing that stuck out for me was the amount of -KB. The original build has 3 -KB IOs for mag 12, which seems like it might be unnecessary on a non-melee type. EmperorSteele's build gives you mag 8, and Melancholia's has no -KB, which I'm thinking might just be a case of her moving slots around and accidentally leaving out the Zephyr -KB instead of the other one?
I'd personally go for a single -KB IO on a ranged character, for mag 4, so a single Zephyr would be fine and would free up a slot or two. I don't see the point in going mag 8; in practice, it offers virtually the same protection as mag 4. -
Also, remember that running any one of the patron arcs will unlock *all* the patron pools, so you don't have to worry about having to slog back through another side switch and another arc if you just want to change pools.

Best wishes for a safe procedure and a speedy recovery!
