MA/SR Build

I'm finally getting around to replanning my MA/SR Scrapper (almost level 49 and she still doesn't have her inherent fitness even).

So anyway, I was thinking that the most important aspects to focus on are positional defenses and recharge. I think I have a build that will do quite well for her, and figured I would post it here to see if I overlooked anything major that would mean starting over on the plan. Specifically, is it a bad thing that Storm Kick, Thunder Kick, and Boxing are only 4 slotted, or are they fine with the 4 piece Kinetic Combat set and don't need perhaps a generic damage worked in somehow at the expense of three 9% accuracy bonuses (pulled from the LotG sets)?

No purple sets in this build, and surprisingly, no epic pool either.

The long forum export is annoying because it uses so much space. Scrolling past everything to find a data chunk gets even harder when you have several people in the same thread posting with long forum exports. Use the short forum export and include the data chunk. Don't include the set bonus totals or set bonuses summary either. Nobody is going to try to do all the math by hand.

Your build is missing a data link and data chunk. We can't load it into Mids to look at it efficiently. When you export a build, the right side of the export window should have "Official Forums (vBulletin)" selected. The bottom part should have "Export Data Chunk as well as a Data Link" checked.

Also, your Mids' is out of date. The current version is 1.942. I believe your Mids' version is missing incarnate slot functions.

I think you'll get more feedback if you post your data chunk, that seems to be the standard now as it's easy to import to see the big picture.

Yes, it's a bad thing, but not for that reason, rather /SR makes better use of Touch of Death for melee than KC (and will save you significant coin). Slotting out 2 sets of ToD nets you more melee def than 3 sets of KC, not to mention makes those 2 attacks better enhanced.

Just some comments -->

I cant see why you would need to use Kinetic Combat sets on an /SR.
Maybe on a /EA in the upcoming issue.

Why slot boxing at all?

Why not slot tough to use it? Its really nice on an /SR

Why not put the healing uniques all in health? -- you won't be using aidself every time it recharges at the softcap.

---------------
Overall it seems theres a ton of slots in the secondary and missing slots in the primary.

I tend to go about things the other way around. I dont use 6 slots on anything in my secondary. I'd like to, but I need the slots elsewhere.

Post fixed to a more desirable format.

So I should go ahead and forgo the 3 and 4 piece bonuses in Focused Fighting, Focused Senses, and Agile in order to put those additional 2 slots in Storm Kick, Thunder Kick, and Boxing?

Here's the data chunk with that change then:

[QUOTE=Hai Jinx;3750514]Why slot boxing at all?

Why not put the healing uniques all in health? -- you won't be using aidself every time it recharges at the softcap.

Aid Self and Boxing are both being used for good defense bonuses: 3.75% ranged and 3.75% melee respectively. And since one of the pieces in the set going in Aid Self is a unique, I can't get all the healing uniques into Health. If I was going to slot up Health, I would pull 1 from Focus Chi, and one more from Agile and Focused senses, and Focused Fighting to get a 5 piece Miracle for another 1.875% AOE defense.

If she was /Regen instead of /SR, I would consider that.

To soft cap /SR all you need is the Steadfast 3% Defense in Tough, a full set of Gaussian's in Tactics (or Focus Chi in a pinch), and good Defense slotting in your secondary defense powers, Combat Jumping (or Hover), and Weave.

That's the easiest way to get soft cap, leaves lots of extra powers for different set bonuses, and let's you fully slot attacks.

Moonlighter

50s include MA/SD, MA/SR, DP/Elec, Claw/Inv, Kat/Dark, Kat/Fire, Spine/Regen, Dark/SD

Forgot to mention, I also planned this out with the high possibility of defense debuffs in mind, so it would seem that getting up nicely over the softcaps would be desirable, if that actually provides a buffer of sorts against debuffs.

And to top it off, it looks like of the higher end melee damage sets, Mako's, Touch of Death, and K-Combat seem the most useful anyway, so may as well go with those first two and get their positional bonuses.

Except it doesn't look like you're even softcapped to AoE. If you're in a position where you actually *need* the massive amounts of overcapping you've built into melee and especially ranged - despite huge amounts of DDR - then the AoE damage you'll be taking during that fight is likely to shred you.

Also, I understand that you slotted the entire Numina's set in Aid Self for the defense bonus, but I just wanted to be sure you're aware that putting the unique in a click power makes it so that it only goes off when you actually use the click, rather than being on all the time.

Kinetic Combats do not add 3.75 to melee they add 3.75 to smashing/lethal, they only add 1.88 to Melee

The smashing/lethal is wasted on an /SR, so there are better sets.

-----
It is possible to softcap with just attack IO bonuses with SR

With the +3% IO you can do that and still throw in a couple crushing impact sets.

Yeah. That was a major oops on my part due to whipping out this plan so late at night. Got the 2 bonuses switched around there. That's why I changed those to Touch of Death as was advised in the first response.

So this (loosely) what my build might look like if I added the Red Fortunes in that you did and put Aid self back in. Oh and did the whole Crippling Axe Kick and Eagle's Claw thing were "supposed to" (yuck)

45.9 Melee / 49.7 Ranged / 45.5 AOE / 16.4% S/L resistance

4.5 seconds off perma-hasten before any incarnates is kinda neat. So is 296% Regen. So this is an improvement over what I'm doing ATM.

You could get 49% Melee Defense by switching out the Purple Set for another Touch of Death Set (losing 10% recharge) You still might be able to be perma-Hasten with a Spiritual Alpha Slot.

Super Reflexes has 95% defense debuff resistance just by enhancing your powers. The average defense debuff does 7.5%. After DDR, that is only .375%. The odds of TEN mobs attacking you and landing a hit all at the same time to debuff you for 3.75% are less than one in ten trillion. At most, a buffer of 1.5% is needed so you can reach the incarnate soft-cap for trials with one inspiration.

Looking at your newest build, you underslotted your defense toggles, which means you need set bonuses to make up for that. Stealth should not be slotted better than Focused Fighting and Focused Senses because it has a lower base value. Dodge is also over-slotted and the enhancements should be in a power with a higher base value.

Are you aware that the Numina and Miracle uniques are proc120s, which means you have to use the power they are slotted in just to get the buff from them for 2 minutes?

The epic/ancillary pools contain some nice powers to add to any build. Consider adding one to make up for your lack of AoE attacks, or simply add to your recovery and regeneration.

Attack chains are important, and can contribute more DPS than simply pressing buttons as they recharge. Boxing should never be part of your attack chain and should only be slotted as a mule power if you are desperate for a certain set bonus. The best attack chain for Martial Arts is attainable without purples on a MA/SR build. I think the thread is probably still on the first page. If you don't feel like investing in recharge sets, at least look at the base damage per activation times in the Powerset Comparison window in Mids'. That can tell you if an attack is good or not. Thunder Kick is not a good attack.

I developed a Super Reflexes template that gets to the soft-cap efficiently and leaves plenty of room for adding recharge set bonuses. It can be adapted to work with any primary power set, and lets you customize everything the way you want, except for the core powers that are already in place. Just try to put the set bonuses somewhere in the build when you change it to MA.

All these years, I was unaware that SR had defense debuff resistance, and since I had heard from a number of sources over the past couple years that defense got the royal screwing in the high level game, I went into this project with that in mind. But since SR has that resistance, that changes everything. Definitely time for a total overhaul.

I am also aware of how the Miracle and Numina uniques work. That is why the Miracle unique went into Health. The Numina unique went into Aid Self, because previously, I was going for the various positional defenses. And it required the entire Numina set to get that ranged defense. May go ahead and drop the Fighting pool altogether. That will give room for an Epic pool for certain. And perhaps I will even manage to fit a K-Combat KD proc in Storm and Thunder Kick at the end there, just because that is one of my favorite procs (second only to the Devastation Hold Proc)

So then, back to my original standby of building for damage, endurance recovery, and recharge (still don't want Hasten on this one, since I don't want her having flaming hands...that of course disqualifies her from the Lollipop Guild)

Who knows how this will look in the end. And as much as I appreciate all the helpful advice received here so far, I am going to refrain at the moment from looking at any premade builds and see if I can come up with something viable but my own.

I'd suggest keeping Fighting and nixing Concealment

If you get rid of the fighting pool you lose over 8% defense to all right off the bat. You wont have anywhere to put the 3% defense IO.

And of course -
At low Hp with tough you have capped Resist to S/L, with 16% resist all the time.

You don't need concealment anyhow -- with capped defenses you can just run through 90% of the missions that you might otherwise "stealth"

The build I posted was just a skeleton or framework for you. It has most of the power choices missing, as well as the majority of the slots unspent. It would be wise to look at it just to see how easy it is to soft-cap Super Reflexes, even if you don't use it.

Wow! I can't believe it is about 2 months short of a year since I first posted this (so sorry about the necropost, but figured it best to just continue this thread instead of starting a new one).

Anyway, I have taken an interest in Honey-Bree again, and have since pushed her to 50 and even unlocked her Alpha, with a Tier 3 Musculature, and going ahead and making Agilities as well (may as well. What else am I going to do with these shards that are racking up?)

So anyway, here is my next attempt at a good all around build for her (had to replace 2 Crushing Impact sets with 2 Mako's Chomp sets, since it bugged me to see 2 5% recharge bonuses going to waste). I hope I'm posting this correctly, since it has been so long...

The key things I have here now are:

62.2% Ranged Defense
44.0 AOE Defense
40.9% Melee Defense
Pretty decent looking Regen and Endurance Recovery
55% Recharge
58% Accuracy
14% Damage bonus (not taking Musculature into account even)

I'm still keeping Aid Self 6 slotted with Numinas, as the additional ranged defense for me is more important than having the unique perma in Health. A couple other slots can be moved elsewhere if needed (the third recharge in Elude, since it isn't perma anyway, and perhaps the third slot in Health with the generic Heal IO), but I couldn't think of anything else that really needed those slots, so that is where they got plunked.

And here is the Hooman readable version of the build, with all the total yaddayaddas tacked on at the end:
