Freedom Math Question
The default 12 slots per server goes away, and you get access to 2 slots, plus whatever was earned or bought.
If all 10 of your characters are on the first page on the server, 2 of those 9 slots you have available would be on the first page as well, so they will be going away.
So, the 7 slots on the second page would be available, plus the default 2 slots, would give you 9 slots available if you went premium on that account, not 11.

I plan on continuing my subscription simply so I don't have to worry about this sort of thing.
Hang on from this post you are correct. If you made the account in 04 then you should get 2 + 7 (1 per year) + 2 (GR) =11.
When you go Premium, ALL SLOTS BECOME LOCKED ON ALL SERVERS. Period. That's your starting point. To unlock those slots, you need Global Character Slot Unlock Tokens and they can be applied to any slot on any server whether there is a toon in that slot or whether that slot is empty. (It is not the case where the first two slots are automatically unlocked... you have to apply a Global Token to specific slots.)
So the real question is, how many Global Character Slot Unlock Tokens do you get? The answer:
2 base, free Tokens for all Free and Premium accounts. That's 2 for all servers and not 2 per server.
+2 if your account was active during I12 when 2 unlocks were given out to celebrate the NCSoft purchase of CoH
+2 if you bought Going Rogue on your account before FREEDOM takes effect.
+1/Vet Year - As part of the Veteran Reward System, for every 12 months subscribed you received a Character Slot Unlock.
+X already purchased. If you paid real money for more Character Slot Unlocks, that will translate into X number of Global Slot Unlock Tokens.
========

Edit: Per Posi's post here, the I12 slots aren't mentioned as being available unless you're VIP.
"If you are not paying for your account in City of Heroes Freedom, this is how many characters you'll have access to:
BASE FREE/PREMIUM ACCOUNT: 2 characters, total
OWN GOING ROGUE BEFORE FREEDOM LAUNCH: Add 2 more characters
PER YEAR OF PAST SUBSCRIPTION: Add 1 character per year
PER PURCHASED CHARACTER SLOT (beyond standard 12 per server): Add 1 character per slot purchased"
Did Posi actually confirm the I12 slots as being available at Premium? I know the two GR purchase slots will be, but I didn't think he had included the I12 slots in the global token list.

I'm looking at it like this:
The OP says she has 10 slots in use. That would mean all 10 of those slots are on the first page of the creation/select screen.
So, the 9 she currently has remaining would be 2 more on the first page, and an additional 7 on the second page.
Since all 12 slots on the first page are the default slots everyone gets, that would mean only the 7 on the second page would count as earned or bought slots.
So, if you only get 2 default slots when you go Premium, then 10 of the default slots on the first page will be going away, meaning only the 7 on the second page will count as earned/bought slots.
That comes out to 9, because I'm assuming here that the 2 for i12, and the 2 for GR are included in that 7 slots on the second page.
Important point: The OP was talking about her 3rd account, and she didn't say her 3rd account has as many veteran rewards as her first account (which is the one I'm assuming she is posting with here). So, we can't use her registration date on the account she posted with as the date from which the 3rd account's vet rewards are counting from. I'm going only by what the OP specifically said she has available right now, which works out to having 9 slots available if that account goes Premium.

I'm pretty sure I was correct there Klaw.

Thanks, NC Soft, for closing my favorite game ever without warning and with plenty of life still left in it, and thus relieving me of the burden of EVER wanting to buy, try or even hear about another game from your company. Will my decision make a dent, or persuade them in anyway, shape or form? Nope, obviously not. Don't care. NC Soft is dead to me. ~ PsyFox
My 3rd acct just hit 42 months vet rewards and it was active during i12.
|
2 for GR
2 for i12
and 3 from Vet Rewards (you'll get the 4th when you hit 48 months on that account)
For a total of 7 slots that count as earned/bought.
So, you'd lose access to one character, and you should get that character back in 6 months.
I'd just pick whichever character you like the least and leave that one locked, and you'll be able to play the rest.

Thanks so much for everyone taking the time to help me, I really appreciate it.

My only question is (and I haven't searched around for this answer yet) is if Freemium gets controllers (I know that free doesn't get H/V/EATs, MMs, or controllers) - I have tons of those and a few on this acct. So for me that is a dealbreaker.
|
I think the requirement is a minimum 3 years vet status to retain access to MMs and trollers on a Freemium account.
They haven't come out and said exactly what the requirement is yet, one of the devs said something about it in passing, so I could either be wrong or they may change it before then.

Almost anything can be unlocked with a one-time fee except for those things which are VIP Exclusive which, AFAIK are: Incarnate content; priority queues, VIP in-game support, and maybe a few goodies locked behind VetReward 2.0.

After all this I'm now picturing Arcanaville coming in and presenting a formula like
T = (V + (2 * G) + (2 * I) + P + 2)
Where V is the number of years veteran.
G = 1 if you own Going Rogue, else = 0.
I = 1 if you were present for the I12 release, else = 0
P is slots purchased
T is total Tokens you get.

Although, I do find amusement in the acronym formed by the way you explained the variables (Ve gypped!).

Okay on my third account I have 10 slots filled and 9 available (vet rewards + GR + whatever other slot rewards over the years - none of these are bought). I think I could let this acct go premium? Am I correct? (I am really super horrible at math).
My figures were:
12-2 = 10 (duh)
19-10 = 9 + 2 (available for premium) = 11. So by my math I would actually still have 1 slot left.
Correct?
