Quote:Uhm... Republicans as a party are not socially liberal by any bizarre, contorted stretch of the imagination. Which is fine (for you) if you want it that way, but libertarians do tend to be somewhat socially liberal, and seem to generally hold their noses at the anything but liberal social policies in hopes that Republicans enacting fiscally conservative policies will somehow result in governments being shrunk to where they will be unable to enact the social policies. Didn't work during the last time Republicans had majorities in all three legislative branches (which was pretty recently even by goldfish standards), so i don't know why it will magically happen the next time.Social issues aren't government issues anyways if you're a libertarian. Just vote republican but shake your head at the nutjobs misrepresenting conservative ideals in the media.
Then again i think that the definitions of fiscally liberal and conservative in the US are sort of missing a much larger and more complex picture in order to keep peddling a false dichotomy. Basically i agree more with David Brin's take on it. Although not entirely. -
Quote:Well, i live in an urban area of New England and at least eight of my close friends have and ride mountain bikes. As do i. Several of them have multiple bikes. Admittedly you'd rarely see them since they usually ride off road.As for bikes, if that part of the US in anything like my part, not a lot of adult sized bikes sold anymore. Plenty of kids/tween bikes but I rarely see an teen/adult on a bike anymore and when I do, 9 out of 10 times it's a Armstrong wannabe in spandex and I imagine those bikes won't do well on unimproved/decaying road surfaces.
Still, the industrial revolution started well before electricity was commonly used, and i'd hope fifteen years would be enough time for some groups to get some industry switched over to non-electric power sources. It might be just a quirk of the sort of people i know, but i know quite a few people who are quite familiar with pre-electric technology and manufacturing, and between them all i could put together a robust machining facility and foundry using equipment old enough that the only electric was for motors that could easily enough be replaced with steam or water drive. Lathes, press brakes, drill presses, milling machines, and the like. This group also has things like basic industrial chemistry and gunsmithing equipment. Actually, the biggest initial problem would be securing enough supplies like saw blades and acetylene before being ready to produce our own, but then i doubt most people would think to hoard either. Probably the toughest initial proposition would be getting the foundry going. Now if we also made trips to some nearby machinery dealers selling old and "useless" industrial machinery, all within several hours by wagon, it gets a bit easier. A lot of my friends are maker types.
With preexisting stockpiles of refined parts and materials available it would be far easier than starting from scratch. The biggest issue would be dealing with interference from other people. Then again a slightly lower tech in some ways but otherwise functional society would make for a less interesting drama. Not to mention that such places would probably be very scattered and vulnerable to attacks from mobs of people eager to steal and break what they can't make themselves. *shrug* -
Quote:It wasn't a PVP zone, but it was co-op. It would be different from existing co-op zones in that Heroes and Villains would have their own unique mission content. Heroes would do Heroic things while Villains would do Villainous things. Heroes and Villains would have their own themed neighborhoods.Quote:The Khalisti Wharf content would be Cimerora taken to the next level and then some. From what I'd seen, it was some of the most compelling alignment content ever.Quote:Among other things, yes. I think the full name may have been Statesman Memorial Park.

Your evidence mostly seems to be as convincing as the evidence that hemlines control the stock market while ignoring all the other factors out there affecting hemlines and markets both. You might as well pick some celebrity who died the same year the international financial crisis started and claim their death caused it. Did MA also cause the similar declines seen in many other MMOs at the time?

Great, just great. Even more stuff i would've loved if NCsoft hadn't decided to kill the game with no warning. -
Mostly Freaks, Nemesis and Council. They're not that hard to fight, but they're very boring.
-
Hey, i actually read the OP. Mostly. i didn't get enough sleep, and after a while some of the expected "BWUH?" statements started giving me a headache because every time i started to get the urge to rebut a misrepresentation, bizarre assumption or outright inaccuracy an even more puzzling one would pop up.
Instead of some sort of dismissive image macro or generalized statement of disagreement with the content of the OP i'm just going to announce that i am now heading downstairs to drink some of the coffee i have brewing and pretend i was never in this thread. -
Quote:You do realize that many (or most) systems in the great majority of cars are mediated by the car's computers? In fact it's been that way for at least twenty years now. Even more so if the car has cruise control.yea except with brake failure especially the ones of the mechnical kind it' pretty simple to recreate the symptoms in a setting and or look and see. Computer they can glitch run someone over and then the proof is gone that there was a malfunction in the first place.
One example: Anti-lock brakes? Computer controlled.
Beyond driving vintage/antique cars there are few designs where computer glitches are not a possibility, even if they remain less likely than mechanical failures. -
Quote:Um, yeah. This is even more incoherent and irrelevant than most of your posts. So... uh... good job? (Incidentally, "creator faced"=face of a god, or maybe Rick Dakan? Not clear what that meant, but a lot of your posting barely qualifies as English, so i guess it's par for the course.)Well, the real reason NCSoft is doing this is because...
Every time they ask someone if you are a girl in real life, ask for address, and how old you are, they would get the response...I am 12 and yes im a girl, and I live blah blah blah. They would show up, and a big creator faced fat bearded dude would answer the door and say, I didnt think you would show up! Pis sed them off, so this is what is happening now...go figure.
Quote:The problem here has is not and has never been anyone thinking it would last forever as has been stated many many times now. It was the when and how. Right before an issue launch for this game, right after the launch of GW2, the literally overnight manner in firing all the people at paragon AND the entire last part I bolded.
It was the perfect storm of crap served to us on a garbage can top as the platter. As yes it is clear that a lot of things escape them, starting with ever getting a penny of my money again. -
Quote:Ewww, wait...oh yeah that place...what? I had someone try and RP ra ping my toon there not just 4 days ago..Odd stuff I tell ya..
wow this stuff ************************************************** ***Quote:All I can say to NCSoft is...I am gona stick my ************ right in *********** and *** to your ***** * ************** *** ******* ***

Dummy.
Maybe you two ran into each other?
i've never had anyone try to RP any sort of sexual activity, and i've played on Virtue about half the time for years. That's even with occasionally stopping in Pocket D. Honestly, the most common RP activity i run into besides people chatting about general superhero stuff in character is "(("...
i've had more come-ons from players on other servers.
Some people have all the luck. -
Quote:i know. Even worse, if you dry them out, pulverize them, and shape them into polyhedrons for easy transport you can't even make back the processing costs. (Ignoring the small segment that actually offer ridiculous sums for the powdered version. Freaks.) Star Trek lied to me!The human body has about two bucks of chemical elements, but they get rented out at many dollars an hour. That is such a scam.
To be fair, i should have been suspicious when they did it in an instant instead of requiring many hours. And that reconstituting thing that looked so easy in the episode? Still haven't gotten that to work yet. -
This thread should be stickier as an object lesson in being clueless and obtuse. If nothing else it would make a useful reference point the next time someone posts, "Is he really serious?"
(Oh, and as a side note WoW released several months after CoH.) -
i wish. Totally the wrong part of the continent for me.

Quote:Who?Well like his set, Casey Schreiner appears to have chucked off CoH. I'd be mad at him, but with all the epic zings he has given Eve online over the years that made me laugh so hard, its difficult to stay mad at him.

This.
An even better surprise is that at certain locations it can drop you outside the normal Talos Island map boundaries. (unless it was fixed.)
...Haven't tried that one in a while, BRB.
Just tried it and it didn't work anymore. Oh well. -
My older characters almost always started in Galaxy City. Somehow the Echo just isn't the same.

Okay in the "smile and nod while slowly backing away" sense.
Completely bat$#!+ crazy in the business sense.
Like the people who think that if a shop is paying someone $15/hour to work on a project they should only be charged $15/hour for the work; completely ignoring the other expenses required to keep a shop open at all. -
Quote:Hmm...Eh, I thought it was alright. I only really had problems with the fact that they didn't at least give the option for a happy ending. If you had finished every game's achievements, did all possible side missions throughout, had full Paragon or Renegade, had full galactic readiness, did all DLC, etc., there should've been a difference to allow for a happy ending.
And no, I didn't play it before the Extended Cut came out. Maybe I just wasn't as emotionally invested in seeing what happened. *shrug* I do think they should've made every squad NPC romanceable in the second instead of bowing down to the soccer mom crowd screaming about sexboxing and the like. Because come on, who wouldn't want to see a FemShep/Ashley or FemShep/Miranda pairing? -
Malaise pants.
<.<
More seriously i miss having four Dark Servants out at once. Dark Miasma got hit with the only one pet at a time nerf without getting the four minute duration removed. -

Quote:Honestly i've been trying out the current CO and it's not bad, but because i had an old Cryptic account it's been a PITA dealing with (im)Perfect World, so i'm currently unable to acquire a freeform character, and the very narrow selection of premades i've tried so far are uninspiring. i may grab a time card soon and see if i can get them to take that. This is a nice post. Yes CO is no City of, but it isn't awful. You can turn off the heavy black outlines in the Settings tab, so the characters look more like CoX. The animations are not that great, nothing like CoX. You can make some interesting combinations of powers with the Freeform approach. It's better than DCUO,: if CoX is a 10, CO is about a 7 and DCUO is about a 4.
The art style is more Cartoon Network than Silver Age, which i find somewhat unappealing, and the first thing i was turn off the cel shading which does improve things a little bit, but my only real quibble so far is that i haven't been able to find a setting to invert the mouse y axis. Call it a legacy of too many flight sims, but i cannot get used to the default setup and the settings in general seem to have a lack of options and granularity for everything except graphics unless i'm overlooking something. The gameplay is fairly easy overall except for the y axis setup and my ingrained reflexes clashing.
No issues with the community, but that's because i haven't been using the chat so far since i'm focused on getting used to the gameplay aspects, so other than getting a duel challenge in the tutorial i haven't had any real interaction with other players. -

It's been a pleasure having you as Community Manager. Even when you sent me the very politely worded request to change my owls avatar because it was very disturbing and creeping people out.
i wish you all the best wherever it is that you end up, and if our paths cross again i'll do my best to give you the opportunity to send me another politely worded request.
