It was ok. I'll keep watching to see how it develops. But I definitely want to find out where he learned the martial arts. Free running and archery would be pretty much mandatory for survival on the island. But hand to hand combat?
Don't count your weasels before they pop dink!
Here is a shot of the mask.
I liked it, though I'm more used to the sarcastic Green Arrow of JLU than this more....bloodthirsty, borderline insane version.

Interesting, finally caught it tonight.

Arrow has potential, but I'm afraid it lacks heart and humor. I think superhero shows work best when it plays the stories straight, but the hero fires off a few quips. I like Paul Blackthorne -- I liked him in Dresden Files and it is nice to see him in another series. I thought the set-up was pretty good with several mystery elements.
LOCAL MAN! The most famous hero of all. There are more newspaper stories about me than anyone else. "Local Man wins Medal of Honor." "Local Man opens Animal Shelter." "Local Man Charged with..." (Um, forget about that one.)

I just plain LIKED this. Although I do have some plot-related quibbles. With the Slade mask, yeah I can deal with the melee skillsets, but where do you pick up computer skillz on a remote island? Or did he manage to grasp 5 years of evolving computer security in a week? I really hope they have this base covered.
It's not how many times you get knocked down that count. It's how many times you get up.
Is that supposed to be Shiva?
And next week, we get Deadshot...
No, China White.

Sidebar...that scene where Ollie fought her? Am I crazy or was that the same set that was used in Falling Skies for the bit with the giant space laser cannon?

To be fair to Arrow, there is only so many unique locations to film in and around Vancouver.

I think they handled Deadshot pretty well. Glad that they got his wrist gun in. But come on, using a visible laser for a hit? Especially when you KNOW there's cops in there? That's a rookie mistake right there. Especially when he's got his little monocle thing on.
This was the first episode I've seen, and I thought it was pretty bad.
Really thought that Deadshot was done poorly and was a huge waste of a great character. I mean, that could have been any random assassin guy. He had no personality, nothing interesting at all... he barely ever even spoke and didn't ever DO anything. What a waste.
And the show in general - the guy playing Ollie, I like. Everyone else was incredibly bland. There was no chemistry between any of the characters or actors. The dialog was flat. The visual style was boring - there wasn't a single interesting or engaging shot in the show. And then there's the strict adherence to the law of TV that says everyone is beautiful, all the time.
I might be willing to give it another couple of episodes to find itself - maybe this one was just especially bad, or maybe it's just the first-season uncertainty that happens with a lot of shows. But so far, not impressed at all.

The Hood (I can't really call him Green Arrow at this point): Way too dark and nasty, I get the whole revenge plot, but it's just not Green Arrow.
How I'd fix: Make him accidentally kill an innocent, have a heartrending scene of anguish, then have him decide to reinvent his hero persona into more of the Green Arrow we were expecting. I might even have the "new" Green Arrow bring "The Hood" to justice with some hero trickery.
Also Less Thwip, more Quip. Leave the growing monotone to Bale.
Villains: China White and Deadshot seemed to be both toss-away characters, and there's no direction except "the list".
How I'd Fix: Stick closer to the comic incarnations for villains and let them stay around/return. Also I'd (quickly) have OQ discover an underlying connect... a mastermind, if you will. Let's give Ollie something more than just a list as a driving force.
Emotional Turmoil/Family Strife/Love/Etc: I know its the CW, it's to be expected
How I'd Fix: Actually, that said, I think it's being handled fairly well. But let's keep one thing firmly in mind, The show's about Green Arrow, not his sister, or his buddy, or his girl friend, or his mom... I'd just make sure that the Heroics stay forefront of everything else.
I want to like this, but there's got to be some changes soon or I'm ditching it.
Oh... and ditch the Arrow-cave
... Hit it ...
Well if you saw the end of last week's there is obviously a mastermind or at least a cabal that everyone one the list, including his late father and as we now know his mother belongs to. It's not League of Shadows but someone is running the city with the rich and powerful (or keeping them rich and powerful).

The final scene in the 2nd ep just screams to me.. "Message for you sir."

I keep forgetting to check this show out...

As for Deadshot, maybe it'll turn out that Deadshot's eyepiece thingie saved his life or something. i hope so, since he's one of my favorite characters in the DC universe, and it's just idiotic to throw him away as a bumbling incompetent who shows up for one episode and then dies. (Incidentally, the most recent issue of Suicide Squad has Deadshot being, well... Deadshot, and possibly dead in the DC(N52)U now as well.)
Dr. Todt's theme.
i make stuff...
I really want to make a Skyrim joke about Deadshot now...
Pretty decent so far. Good setup for his sidekick to show up too. Pretty sure that the Queen home is the same castle that was used in Smallville for Luthor's pad.
If you missed it this time, it appears to be playing again on Friday.
