Interesting thread even if it mostly keeps going in circles.
i have a question for the original poster that was inspired by the original post because there's something about leading/biased questions that often amuses me: Yes or no, have you stopped beating your wife? -
Quote:Was this in closed beta? In the live game the buff pets have only ever buffed the owner even though the descriptive text implied otherwise. Nothing i recall reading suggests the buff pets ever had any attacks outside of anything that might've been tried on the internal testing servers that players have no way to access. The buff pets used to be different. They buffed the whole team, and could attack. Both of those components were removed, but appear to have kept their aggro. Some players use it to take an alpha strike.
I believe they try to keep vet rewards limited in power to keep vet player from completely outshining those who are newer. I do have friends who are fairly new players, who will never receive the highest rewards. If those rewards are too cool, it frustrates the new players.
Despite that, yes, I do find the pet disappointing.
As i recall the buff pets used to have a more standard pet AI which would cause them to rush into melee range of enemies since they had no ranged attacks. Unfortunately for the pets the reason they had no ranged attacks was because they had no attacks at all, and would then just hover around the enemies, presumably thinking little pet AI murder thoughts that they couldn't act upon. -
Quote:Venom/Carnage, hmm? Let's see...I'm looking to make a character with life aborbing powers that focuses on high damage/ speed. I was wondering if a brute or a stalker would be more up to the task. Also which arch would be better to model my character towards Venom/Carnage physical looks/attitude/powers?
Well Dark Melee has Siphon Life which damages your opponent and gives you health. Dark Melee is also a fast, hard-hitting set that has impressive single target damage but very little AoE. The fact that your tier 9 attack can make tentacles erupt from the ground around your target is just a bonus.
As far as the secondary on a Brute goes i'd probably suggest Willpower, Super Reflexes or Dark Armor. Willpower is the easiest to use, but SR and DA are both very effective sets in the late game that take a little more practice to play.
For a Stalker's secondary i'd suggest Willpower, Ninjutsu, Super Reflexes, Regen and Dark Armor.
Personally i'd think that a Brute suits the concept a bit better than a Stalker. If you decide to use Dark Armor i'd definitely suggest reading up on it in the Brute or Stalker forums. It can be a very strong set, but takes a bit of learning in building and playing to really "shine." -
Quote:Okay, that's pretty cool. The closest thing i've done is turning off XP on my Rad/Sonic Defender, Perez Park Predator, at level 12 so that he will never outlevel his namesake territory. Which is actually almost the opposite of what you did.Last night Solitary, my fire/wp scrapper on Liberty, hit level 50 by only solo street hunting.
He has never been on a team, talked to a contact (other than trainers and stores), or been on a mission. He simply works alone protecting the streets. The process was much more entertaining and rewarding than I thought it would be.
Are there any others who have done something similar?
Street hunting all the way to 50 is impressive. Especially since you never teamed or talked to contacts while doing it. -
Quote:Hit Pocket D on Virtue first, then add the 'r'. (It's really not that bad, but it has a colourful reputation.)Scared yet?
Oh! Wait, I missed an R.
Scarred yet?
Welcome aboard.
Welcome Danny D, this game has some good folks in it. Also some jerks, but they're pretty easy to avoid. If you have any questions feel free to ask away. -
Quote:Ah, okay. i thought not being able to perma DP might've had something to do with it. It kind of sucks that the Stalker hp cap is so low anyway.stalk WP gets reconstruction which is nice and also has a constant +HP buff instead of just with DP (which can't be perma in pvp)
Quote:and elec because thunderstrike is amazing -
Quote:*heh* i haven't read a post by F_M for months unless someone quotes something. When that happens i'm reminded how little i'm actually missing.lol rally others on my side? I don't even know those people either in game or on these forums.
You know nothing about pvp but spout these non sense numbers about chain induction doing a 1000 damage yet fail to take into account base resist that every toon in a pvp gets.
You know almost as much as pvp as you do about pve so stop giving others bad advice in both fields.
I seem to remember you were leaving the forums for good it was one of the things i was looking forward to not having to read your mis information ahh well trolls will be trolls I guess.
edit: p.s. i love getting reactions like yours for having the number 666 tied to my name
i didn't realize WP was that good for Stalkers in PvP, or at least better than regen. i guess i haven't paid enough attention to current PvP preferences for Stalkers. My only two Stalkers of any level are Elec/Nin and DM/Nin, and oddly enough i've never taken either into PvP even though i use less optimal combos like my Dark/Ice Def, Widow and PB.
What is it that makes WP more popular now than Regen for Stalkers? Is it the more layered mitigation with click heals, +hp, resists, regen and +def as compared to regen being mostly click heals, +regen and some +hp?
Also, DM or Elec?
(Might drag one of the two i mentioned into a PvP zone just to see how they fare.)

Quote:Reasonable question. Why so many round-about answers?
I shall +rep all of your posts while I wait for my team to zone in for a TF!Quote:It's in vogue to humiliate other people online. It establishes one as edgy and cool, I guess, to be as patronizing and cynical as possible to someone who puts themselves out there by asking a question.
Edit: This is the definition i was thinking when i read SPiNE's post.
Roundabout
–adjective1.circuitous or indirect, as a road, journey, method, statement or person.
2.(of clothing) cut circularly at the bottom; having no tails, train, or the like. -
*heh* i had the same thought as H_Z when i saw the full length picture of Noble Savage. My impression was that he was an escaped test subject from the same project that made Maelstrom into what he is today.

Quote:Yes and no.I think that Calvin Scott, the mass-murdering supervillain, and his anarchist terrorists, which are about to slaughter Praetorian Earth are probably meant to be the people the heroes of Paragon City are meant to fight - kinda like we do now in the current Paretorian arcs.

The cool-down was never about the markets except in a peripheral way. It's at least partly related to the genre CoH is based on: superhero comics.

Quote:i know there's a group out there based in RP'ing White Wolf's World of Darkness vampires. They've been advertised pretty regularly on air by The Cape. At the moment i don't recall their name or contact info.Hey everyone,
Before you start replying with Twilight mania posts, that has nothing to do with this. I simply enjoy rp, which is why Virtue is my home, and I'm looking to join an active Fantasty sg/vg. It doesn't have to be specifically vampire, it can be a group that accepts all sorts of characters. Anyways, I can make a villain or hero doesn't matter to me. I was just wondering if there were any active sg/vg's out there that fit this concept.
Thanks a bunch.(i've probably got bubbles in my thinktank.)
Did you also look in the Supergroup & Villaingroup Recruitment section of the forums? -
-
Quote:i think you should also post it in the Suggestions and Ideas section of the forums.I had a random thought that I think would be an interesting addition to the game.
Dr. Aeon gets promoted to a Patron, and starts granting a patron power pool. Science Mastery.
With science based powers and your very own shiny super-pulse rifle!
What do you guys think?
It's a nice idea, but i have a feeling the Devs won't go for it. -
Quote:Hey, caps lock makes every post look more credible and reliable. Or is it the opposite? Wait, it's the exact opposite, oh well.More excessive use of the Caps Lock feature please, as currently your post doesn't make me cry nearly enough.
If I told you that a reliable source told me that Scrappers were going to get assassin strike, would you believe me?
Oh on a side note I also hear that a new AT is going to be introduced with GR, I'll skip the details for now but the new AT will have Bacon powers. No really someone important told me.
As much as i'd like to believe Shouty McShouterson i've also heard nothing to support what he posted. i don't expect to see any of the current PvP mechanics repealed, but i hope to eventually see some of them dialed back a bit more. Still, i have no reason to think it'll happen any time in the near future.

Nothing really matters -
At running speeds that duckwalk animation is even funnier and usually a prelude to hilarity ensuing. Especially when done by Malta.

Quote:Still nothing "sudden" or "out of the blue" about it as far as i understand the usual meaning of both terms.yeah, but there was still a lot of complaints that it was being fixed. When it was first announced, there were a lot of people complaining "How where they supposed to know it was unique since they could slot multiples of it?" despite the [Unique] tag in the name.
-
-
Quote:Eh? It was always declared unique if you're referring to the chance for build up proc. Nothing even slightly sudden about it. Even when it was finally fixed to work correctly there was a fair bit of advance warning.Yeah, that's the part that confused me. That the devs would suddenly out of the blue declare something a Unique. One would hope they'd know if something needed that from the beginning. The glitch makes sense, though, and yes, no sympathy for those who knowingly take a risk like that.
-
Knockback/repel toggles are not a popular place to slot procs because of how they function. Gale makes for a much better choice.
-
When you first activate Hurricane and every ten seconds after that the proc will roll against every enemy in Hurricane's radius. No enemies in the radius means no chance to trigger. Pretty sure the proc doesn't stack with itself.

Quote:Ah, i'd heard the name before, and seen some animated gifs based on the videos, but hadn't paid much attention past that.I LoL'd.
Boxxy (AKA: Boxxybabee, Moldy Lunchbox, Catherine Gomez), uploaded a few short videos in early 2009 that got an unusually crazy response. I don't see the big deal. All she did was ramble on about a couple of her friends on GaiaOnline and defend herself to responses to her first videos.
Supposedly, she is/was part of a group called Mischiefmakers that try to mess with the "outside world" and promote GaiaOnline, in exchange for winning more online currency.
Anyway, her videos have been edited, re-edited and re-uploaded with several variations by now... and many people make caption pictures from them. I guess the marketing worked?
Thanks. -
One person expressing mild exasperation out of three responses and still attempting to supply relevant info (minor error in original link aside) would certainly seem to confirm your statement. Especially if you've ever been to any other MMO forums.
But yeah, meeting one or more of the criteria for a closed beta invite does not guarantee that you'll get in first. Not only are there many others who have the same status, but invites are also prioritized by things like whether the people being invited are to test an area of the game they're known for being very experienced with, how helpful they've been in past betas, and other criteria known only to the Devs.
There's no way to say for sure when someone will get a closed beta invite. (Although Arcanaville getting an early invite is basically a given.) Based on past closed betas you see will forums for the closed beta in the main forum list once you get your invite even if the invite email itself is lost. (For the i17 closed beta my invite ended up in the spam folder and i didn't even realize i'd gotten the invite for some time.) Check your email, check the boards, and eventually you should get in.
