I'm looking to make a character with life aborbing powers that focuses on high damage/ speed. I was wondering if a brute or a stalker would be more up to the task. Also which arch would be better to model my character towards Venom/Carnage physical looks/attitude/powers?

life absorbing ehh best toon for that job would be warshade. They have alot of cool powers were they suck both living enemys and dead corpses energy to use it for there own means ie heal/damage boost/ self ressing etc.

Venom/Carnage, hmm? Let's see...

Well Dark Melee has Siphon Life which damages your opponent and gives you health. Dark Melee is also a fast, hard-hitting set that has impressive single target damage but very little AoE. The fact that your tier 9 attack can make tentacles erupt from the ground around your target is just a bonus.

As far as the secondary on a Brute goes i'd probably suggest Willpower, Super Reflexes or Dark Armor. Willpower is the easiest to use, but SR and DA are both very effective sets in the late game that take a little more practice to play.

For a Stalker's secondary i'd suggest Willpower, Ninjutsu, Super Reflexes, Regen and Dark Armor.

Personally i'd think that a Brute suits the concept a bit better than a Stalker. If you decide to use Dark Armor i'd definitely suggest reading up on it in the Brute or Stalker forums. It can be a very strong set, but takes a bit of learning in building and playing to really "shine."

honestly im torn between venoms bulkier apperance(brute) and carange's more sleek and deadly look ( prob stalker look). I have been planning on going dark melee/ dark armor afteer reading through a bunch of the wiki. I like how the stalker has his stealth so he can stalk his victims, but the brute force from a brute is what I'm more familiar playing as in all mmos.

I'm leaning towards stalker atm centered around damage speed and life tap. Kinda stuck on the whole feel of stalking my victims only to draw them in alone and drain them.

also it's my understanding that you only get 2 power sets right? so i can only pick one primary and oen secondary? also how many abilties can i fgain from the power pool I was hoping to max speed and grab whatever else from teleportaion/fighting

You can only have two main powersets, your Primary and your Secondary. There are power pools, which all characters can choose from which have more wide-spread abilities such as flight, teleportation, or leadership.

In addition, at level 41 you can choose from your Epic power pool. The Epic pools consist of five powers designed to fill certain gaps in your character. For example, Stalkers and Brutes get access to ranged attacks and utility powers; Masterminds get armor powers and extra attacks, etc...

You can choose all four abilities from the power pools, or only one or two if you want. You can choose to select all nine powers from your primary or secondary if you choose. For the epic pools, you can only pick four out of five, so one power will always be left out.

Also, don't think that you have to just stick with one character. Make and Stalker and a Brute, and see how they both play out. This game is very alt friendly and many people here have what is called "altitis" which compels players to create many alts due to the huge variety in character structure.

Dark Armor includes a stealth toggle for Brutes. It's not as good as Hide from Stalkers, but it's stealth. You can get a stealth IO to stack it with for invisibility, although it's still not as gooda s Hide (since Stalkers crit out of Hide).

Yeah, you only get two powersets. You can choose from up to 4 other power pools.
You also get a Patron powerset after completing a story arc at level 41, but thats not important right now.

You'll probably want Fitness for Stamina, since Dark Armour can be quite endurance heavy due to its heal. Fighting is also a good choice for Tough, espeically for Brutes. And a travel power like Teleport makes 3, thats all your basic needs covered.

Dark Armor is a little bit odd on Stalkers. Oppressive Gloom and Cloak of Fear are auras that stun and fear any enemies nearby, but also break you out of Hide, since you attack the target when they trigger. On a Brute you can run these and the damage aura (which Stalkers dont get) full-time if you have the endurance.

If you like the idea of turning invisible, no worries, Dark Armor for Brutes has a stealth power. I think a Dark/Dark Brute might be an easier character to start with.

Oh yeah, Brutes can be small and skinny, and Stalkers can be big and bulky. Your look and archetype are completely independent.

thats a lot of great info thanks. I been looking around more and think i may go for speed and prensce first and dump whatever else into either fighting, concealment or teleportation.

I'm a bit confuse don how i will be upgrading my super powers and how many I can actually have. It seems like this game doesn't operate under a "alternate advancement","talent", "feat" or whatever ability specializing system you guys are used to so i guess I'll jut have to play the game to find out. i read alot about enhancements so maybe that's how it's done on this game. I found a character modeler just a few mins ago on this forum called suckerpunch just couldnt make heads or tails of it it yet with the tiers of powers and such seeming much more compicated then other mmos ive played. I'll keep looking at brutes vs stalkers on the charter modeler to compare the abilities for my first character. The one with the most damage/life taps will prob win out

also neat to know i can stack stealths from conceal / dark armor

speak of the devil it just finished downloading

There is no "talent tree" or anything like that.

You get a power. You put "slots" in that power. You put enhancements in those slots in that power, which makes that power better. Enhancements are our "gear".

This is not exactly true. You cannot stack Conceal>Stealth with stealth toggles. You *can* stack Conceal>Stealth with powers that provide stealth but are not primarily a stealth toggle. See here:
