Quote:There's some dubious math in the dates, here. Purchasable character slots were introduced with Issue 12, which went live May 20, 2008. With this issue, 2 free slots were granted to all accounts, bringing the minimum possible character slots to 10. The official "CoH and CoV are one game" combination, which made 12 slots standard for all, happened on July 16, 2008. That would mean that in the 57 days in between, the OP paid for up to 26 slots at a minimum price of $105.94 ($19.99 for 5 slots * 5 + $5.99 for 1 slot)and yet never before did they think of picking up a copy of CoV or GvE just to get those extra slots that were offered since CoV was released in 2005.I think he is saying he purchased 28 extra slots when he only had 8 taking him to 36
Then when access to the other side was given all servers should have received an extra 4 slots but as the server he was playing on was already at max he never received those extra 4 on that server
On that basis he probably has a good argument that those extra 4 should have been granted back as global slots at that time - they were purchased slots but technical limitations prevented there allocation.
As such he should have the 2 base slots + 28 purchased not 24 + any vet/box bonus slots applicable
I'm sorry, if your priorities are high enough to spend over $100 on slots in the first two months they're for sale, your priorities were high enough to shell out $30 a year earlier to get four slots plus a free month. Or, you've only paid for 24 slots, +2 base slots, and you're getting at least what you've already paid for. -
Quote:This.I look at the words "Gods" and "Superheroes" as one and the same.
In Hancock Charlize Theron's characters says "they use to call us gods, now they call us superheroes".
Also, the brilliant monologue from Kill Bill vol. 2 about Superman, specifically relating superheroes to modern mythology. Which, through the right perspective, is the absolute truth. The only difference between Superman and Hercules is that someone is specifically paid to actively write a continued storyline for Superman. -
Quote:Now this has been a growing irritation for me... the game is opened up as a hybrid pay model where people can play for free or pay a subscription for VIP service. Yet, for some reason, any time a line of communication is opened, people inevitably ask for more of the game for free. I'm curious: If McDonald's were to offer a free cheeseburger once a day to each person that walked in the door, would they demand a Big Mac combo meal as well? Where does the feeling of entitlement come from?Here we go!
<snip>
Tyron Samaroo: As a premium player any way you getting keep the incarnates power???
City of Heroes: Incarnate content is VIP only
<snip>
Roman Jocktapus Valdez: Can free accounts ever unlock kheldians without paying a cent
City of Heroes: No, sorry. Epic Archetypes are purchasable for Premium players in the Paragon Market™, and are available to VIPs as part of their subscription.
<snip>
Martin Dotson: IO's and LIVE tech support for NON Vip's
City of Heroes: Sorry, live support is a VIP perk. Access to the Invention system can be purchased as a 30-day license in the Paragon Market, or can be unlocked as a Paragon Reward at Tier 7.
<snip>
Adam Burtze: any plan on letting free player join sg's? you would figure since you really want them to buy time or other perks you would let them in a least an sg community so they can see what they are missing
City of Heroes: Players can join Supergroups at Paragon Rewards Tier 2, which takes two Paragon Rewards Tokens; Free players start with one. You can get an additional Paragon Rewards Token with your first purchase of any amount of Paragon Points in the Paragon Market, and one token for every 1200 Paragon Points thereafter. -
I have, on occasion, joined the LFG queue and sat in a shop or university with an /auctionhouse window open, just playing around on the market until the queue popped. You can get pulled onto other teams that way (most recently did it four days ago) and you CAN run DFB with less than 8, as I did one yesterday which had 6 when we queued.
Most people don't sit in the queue, however, because doing so prevents entering instanced missions, which is pretty much what the game runs on. So you can either hang out doing something which isn't quite playing the game as it was planned (and which many players I've heard from consider quite boring), or you can actively form a team and use the TuT for a pre-formed team. It seems rather obvious why the player base chooses the option it does.
The interesting point is how to fix it. The obvious thought, initially, is to get the LFG queue to continue to function inside instanced missions. I'm not sure if there's a technical hurdle preventing that from occurring, but that also ignores the practical hurdles: What if someone queues and then wants to join a mission team? What if two or three people want to do it? What if you're running a timed mission? If you permit people in the queue to join teams, is there a warning available to the team leader, or does that person just disappear in the middle of the mission? What if it's their mission? Every answer leads to more and harder questions, and I'd like to see discussion on the matter, but in the end I'm happy to not be the one making the decision. -

Quote:I'd also like to point out that historically, the forum discussions that have gotten the most dev attention seem to be the ones that generate a continuous thread over months with multiple inputs. If it merits a sticky, it merits coding.Not to come off as confrontational or anything, but you realize that is breaking the forum rules, right? Starting new threads for topics that already exist.
I did a quick search, and saw in your previous posts, that like this one, many forumites agree with you about this, but spamming the forum with a new thread about it every month isn't going to help you. -
-
Quote:Agreed here.Yea, and the forum change borked the villain skin.
The dev digest/community digest section now shows previews of the threads.
If this is considering WAI (as the hero skin had it this after after the last "update") then I give this a big thumbs down.
I preferred it the other way.
Ficks, please. -
Snape killed Dumbledore.
Bruce Willis' character is actually dead.
Kevin Spacey's character is Kaiser Soze.
It's her head in the box.

The alcoholic squirrel is absolutely right. By the way, you might want to cut that squirrel off, he's been drinking like that for years.

I'm kind of curious... if you really want to run UM at the highest possible settings, why are you getting a laptop? You seem to be looking at the wrong market for your wants, kind of like finding a sports car that's really good at off-roading.
-
Thanks for this, Posi! This actually seems wholly appropriate... it's something the game can be fully enjoyed without ever feeling a "need" for, yet a great incentive for getting/maintaining a VIP subscription and it doesn't bleed the VIPs for extra money. I approve on all counts.
-
I don't see why not, considering that freespecs are commonly given out when major changes occur to game mechanics that could impact certain builds negatively.
That said, we have not gotten freespecs with every new issue, and there's no reason to expect them in the future without a major change. It's true the past few issues have included them, but at no time (to my recollection) have we been guaranteed a new one with each issue. -
Quote:I don't know... does anyone see Catgirls randomly leaping into War Walker Orbital Lance rings? It's basically the same thing...Wouldn't the ultimate weapon against Catgirls be a Giant Orbital Laser Pointer?
Also, I'd like to nominate your post as quote of the year. -
-
I'm going to agree with Airhammer here. There's got to be some incentive left to VIP, or we might as well just throw the whole subscription plan out the door. Once that happens, microtransaction plans like the super packs become the rule, and that's a very, very dark road.

Wouldn't that kind of defy the definition of "Elite"?
-
At one point, I made an Ice/Ice tank who was a pirate that was lost at sea and frozen but came back for whatever reason. I guess it wasn't a permanent condition because I deleted him to make room... but it was one of my more interesting character concepts.

MARTy has seen this thread and is now cutting off post counts.

Quote:While all of these options would be astonishingly awesome, I'd consider "just the cape" to be a great start.back of cape, back of character, back and front of head. and on the hands.
Along with the ability to select them on all the above listed. Would go well with magic based concepts.

Yeah, there's some sort of weird bug on that arc. It's supposed to send you to the one in Steel Canyon, but I guess that one got copy/pasted over to Croatoa and so the mission text sends you there. Either one will complete the mission. Same is true for the "Talk to Ms. Liberty in Fort Trident" while the one 30 feet away in front of the Atlas statue gives the exact same speech.

Additionally, purchasing points is a SIGNIFICANTLY better rate than just waiting for your VIP stipend to come in each month.

Quote:At Tier 9, Controllers and MMs are unlocked.Also, any of the "free for VIP" powersets that you didn't pay for. Potentially Controllers and MMs.
EATs, however, will have to be purchased if you want access to them. Also, unless you purchased GR, you will need to buy access to that system and its powersets thru the market as well.
You will also lose access to base editing as a premium player. -
Quote:July 4th has been brought up in the past, and is usually not received well by the non-US crowd. For some weird reason, our friends and family over in the UK don't gain the same level of enjoyment from US independence day. I'm personally not against such an event, considering the game is set in the US and the development is done here, but I can certainly understand and accept their ire about the concept.Spring is the Valentines day event, fighting the red caps.
What about a 4th of July themed event. Save the block party and fireworks display. After you save them, you get to light the fireworks by attacking them
Oh, and the Spring Fling is an extremely lame "Spring" celebration. It's fun for what it is, but it shouldn't be considered in the same class as the Halloween and Winter events.
