Early Arachnos, 'cause spiders are scary.
Giant metal spiders conning purple? Verrrrry scary.
And I agree with one of the early posts, early Vazh and Freakshow 'cause the individuals have so much personality. -
HEY EVERYBODY!!!
The venerable Rude Tells thread is thatta way! And we're desperately looking for new blood/fresh meat!
The thread is wasting away! Git ovah dere!!! -
Quote:Now Zombie, why in the heck...?You haven't seen slo-mo Ninja Run until you turn it on and set yourself to follow a civilian walking down the street.
I mean, how do you even get to the place where you're like..."Wonder what would happen if I activated Ninja Run and used Follow on a civilian?"
It might be time for you to take a break from the game, my friend. -

Why wait 'til you have a full team before setting mish?
The first 6 players to join are just standing around picking their noses waiting...
This way everyone can get their butts moving toward the mish door while you flesh out the team. -

Without using Blind Invites

Prep: Copy/Paste the following /Bind command into your Chat line, this is your Invite Bind:
/bind i "tell $target, Level $level-ish team LFM - join us?"
Prep: Get at least one mission from a Contact and/or the Police Radio, preferably more than one.
-In "Missions" tab, use Select Task to set an Active Mission before you begin your Search.
Begin Searching:
-Click Team tab on Chat window
-Click Find Member
This is the Search Window
-Look at heroes in the same Zone as you (default listings on Search Window activation)
Are any:

-Not already on a team (not greyed out)?
-Not flagged as "Not Looking for Team" (red circle with line thru it)?
If Yes, click on the name and Press i to activate your Invite Bind.
Repeat until you've hit all viable heroes.
-Now Refine your Search
In Search Window, use drop-down Level list to select an appropriate level-range* & hit Search button.
-Look at heroes in various zones

----First by Archetype (Tank, Blaster, Defender, etc.)
-----Then by Zone (trickier - a "last resort" for me)
Enjoy your full team!
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Further comments:
* "Appropriate level" will vary from player to player, it's whatever you feel comfortable with.
---The new SuperSideKicking mechanic means *any level* hero is now an "appropriate level", as long as everyone's comfortable with the arrangement.
---I tend to stay in a +4/-4 range, with preference to lower-level chars, simply because I get more Yes replies from them.
** Solo Players listed as "in mission" used to be off-limits for me. But after some "last-resort" Invites, I now consider them fair game, in light of how many "in mission" players have jumped at the chance to Exit their solo mish to join a good team.
*** Consider using this to supplement your Invite Bind:
/macro LFM "say, Looking for more...$$emote Binoculars"
---Your first joiner might be thinking "'Team LFM - join us' and there are only 2 of us? Rip-off!" To avoid this, the first 2 people to join, hit the LFM macro immediately after you see them appear on the Team list.
---The Binoculars emote makes it clear to any nearby heroes, that I'm actively LFM and not picking my nose or AFK (plus it occasionally gets a LOL).
Final Note: I find I generally get a 1-in-3 positive response rate, i.e. for every 3 Invite Binds I send, I get one No, one (no reply), and one Yes. So expect to send 20-ish Invite Binds to fill a Team from scratch.
But by using a Bind vs. a Macro, you can have one hand on the mouse to select names in your Search Window, and one on your Invite Bind key, and hit 20-ish heroes in under :30 seconds.
Good luck! -

I think it behooves us all, to take a step back and appreciate what this game has to offer, viewing it as a Newb, rather than as Vets.
It's too easy to take all the little things, that are done SO well, for granted.
As above, the animations really ARE pretty damn awesome. When was the last time you really *watched* your character during a fight scene.
We're always focused on the baddie we're targeting, or to be targeted next, or the Health/End bars, or maintaining Situational Awareness of the "big picture" during a fight.
Go street sweep and really *watch* how fluidly and naturally your hero moves from one attack to the next. Watch how gracefully and precisely s/he Combat Jumps up onto a 3-inch-wide *railing* to target that next baddie.
Take a few minutes on your next commute and consider the "minute-to-learn-lifetime-to-master" aspects of gameplay.
Wanna jump in and blast stuff across the zone with an Energy Attack? No prior heroic experience necessary.
Wanna min/max your hero with purples and sets? Or Badge them to the n-th degree? That's in there too!
As with everything in life, it's all relative.
The game may not be P-E-R-F-E-C-T, but it's really pretty freakin' awesome, seen from a fresh, thoughtful perspective. -
I'm going to go ahead and anticipate a "But I can't find a team" post here, in hopes of crafting a useful copy/paste reply I've already wished I had, like a dozen times. So here goes. Please offer suggestions and corrections for my final copy-pasta version:

I've tried! Believe me!
But somehow the Villain-ness just keeps seeping back in.
Multiple 50s hero-side (earned the old-fashioned way), but am STILL unable to get a Vill past level 18 or so.
Just too much of a goody-two-shoes IRL, I guess. -
Quote:This brought back a memory from my own childhood - at about S.F.'s age, I suppose, I was given a more young-adult-oriented coloring book containing detailed black & white outlines of WWII fighter planes and bombers from all sides of the conflict.I've noticed a change in her playing style as of late. Over the past few months, Sister Flame has become more serious about gaining levels. Instead of plowing through grays in Atlas Park, she has begun to follow mission story lines and is slowly exploring other zones....she just wants to play the game as it was meant to be played and experience things as they come.
At first I was just coloring them the way you'd color a picture of a flower or teddy bear - whatever I wanted to do was fun.
Then my WWII-vet grand-dad explained the significance of these aircraft, and pointed out the descriptions of common color schemes in small type at the bottom of the page.
I then began taking the whole thing very seriously, trying my best to get the colors *just right*, and taking great pride when I turned out a spot-on match (according to grand-dad).
I remember it as a turning-point of sorts, on the road to maturity.
Thanks for bringing that back to me, Wyll & SF, this thread has been a real boon to these forums! -

Quote:Can't fix what ain't broke!Ultra Mode is an overhaul of the graphics engine, but I think the OP was referring to the game engine. What they want to see changed is entirely beyond me, but probably refers to everything the devs have referred to as "cannot be done with our existing game engine".
Maybe they want the new game engine to spit out cheesecake.
I rejected game engine, and went with graphics engine, because changing the game engine would be creating a whole new game. And I like CoX just the way it is!
If someone's looking for a new game engine, there are plenty of other MMOs out there using totally different engines, one of which may be more to the OP's liking.
Now, the graphics engine, on the other hand, IS looking a bit dated, hence...ULTRA MODE!!! -
*peers in crystal ball*
Yes...I'm seeing...yessss...it's becoming clearer now...they WILL overhaul their graphics engine...and they will....wait...lost it...hold on...they will call it ULTRA MODE!!!
*phew* that was taxing. -

Every so often I weaken and decide to give AE another chance, after a steady dozen disasters, every time I've set foot inside.
So, Dxp or no Dxp, once again I had the joy of experiencing...
Blind Invite *accept what the heck*
"come to AE bldg"
What are we doing?
"I think it's a mish arc"
Leader keeps adding people via Blind Invites "come to AE bldg" they drop almost immediately.
Finally get steady around 6 people.
"let's start"
It's a farm map with some nicely made demons and custom enemies, all red-purple.
Starting to hand out buffs prior to starting...
*Team Wipe*
blaster 1 "that was so my fault I'm sorry"
blaster 2 "oops my bad"
Me: "Well, so far this is just like every other disasterous AE experience I've ever had - this is gonna take all night - so long folks".
Quit team
Tell from Leader "it isn't too hard i hate people who quit LOSER"
Me: "And I hate people who Blind Invite me to AE farm mishes that Team Wipe on the first mob - but that seems to be my sorry lot in life" /ignore Leader
Most memorable experience this weekend.
And every time I say Never Again, and every time I weaken and give it another go.
Well this time NEVER AGAIN.
I hate that place. -

Quote:The worst thing about the cake room is teams invariably split up...
Best way to do those rooms is to all go to the bottom of it and work your way up, FYI. That way if you fall through you at least won't be facing a whole mod by yourself.
I second this - always my suggestion on entering the cake room.
Get everyone to the bottom and work your way up, so whoever gets KB'd or slips & falls down there won't faceplant-=>Team Wipe. -

Quote:Man, that's like...dream scenario. Wonder if there's any chance of it coming our way any time soon? *stares off into space dreamily*What would be nice is a feature similar to Aeon's.
Say, for example, the team leader presses CTRL+F12 (or some other hot key). When she does so, a message appears in the Request channel, like this:Ms. Indubitable: Lvl 25 Team LFM in Talos Island.
Now, anyone who sees that message can click on it. When they do, a small window pops up that displays the current team composition, with the team's active mission displayed, and a Join button.
If the user clicks the Join button, a window appears on the team leader's client, displaying the applicant's archetype, level, and powersets. The leader and accept or deny the application. -

Quote:While I understand and commend the general wariness indicated above, please be aware that I regularly approach total strangers (on low-level characters) and Tell them "Would you like to earn some start-up Inf for this hero by helping me transfer to an Alt?"Currently, you need to find a trusted individual, and arrange a trade. They hold your Inf then you pass it to the alt.
I've done this about a dozen times, and have NEVER been cheated or ripped off in any way.
Politeness and consideration demand that you do a minimum of prep on your own by having your Alt in the same Zone (I prefer Atlas) as the hero from whom you're transfering.
This makes it quick and easy for the person lending you a hand, they don't have to wait while you schlep your Transfer-ee back to Atlas from Whatever-zone to complete the transfer.
I usually just do a Trade, like 5.5m inf to the holder, and tell them to Trade me back 5m, keeping 500,000 inf for themselves. This appears to be a sufficient reward, I've never had a complaint. But the one time I forgot to bring my Transfer-ee back to Atlas ahead of time, I asked the holder to keep 1m inf as recompense for the extended wait.
Good luck! and in general, trust these Heroes, they've never done me wrong.
Edit to add: Be sure to check that the holder is not on a Trial Account, there is a limit to how much Inf they can hold at any time, I think it's around 50K, not enough to make the transfer worth the time or effort for either party. (But feel free to Gift the Trial Accounter 50K if you can spare it, just for the heck of it!) -
Welcome to the game and the forums!
Just wanted to second, third, and fourth suggestions to lean heavily on the Vet players when getting started (Global Channels are great for seeking assistance).
This game, more than any other I've seen, has a long, rich history of Vets "paying it forward" in terms of taking polite, eager newbs such as yourself under their wings, showing them the ropes, Gifting them some startup Influence/Infamy (the in-game form of $), and answering any questions/concerns they may have.
This is precisely what happened to me, many moons ago, and I now practice it myself, and see and hear about it (in-game and on these forums) ALL the time.
NEVER be reluctant to reach out for help, advice, or assistance. If you do it in a pleasant, polite way (as you've proven yourself capable), you will be richly rewarded, and will then find great fulfillment in behaving in the very same fashion, down the road.
Best of luck! If you find yourself on Freedom server, please look me up, using my Global name found below. -
Quote:But then you see a level 38 with the comment "Level 24 plant/rad troller LFT" and wonder just how accurate those search comments really are.i see most people doing this, just putting a specific comment in the search field is much easier to do (as it persists through zoning and logging and can be changed to somerthing specific to what you want to do per day)
Personally I don't bother to change my "LF...."whatever comment when I know I'm going to be shopping/crafting for the next half-hour, even though I know I should.
But if you're wondering, people such as I, who LIKE to form and Lead teams (a small minority, admittedly), DO hit up the LFMissions- and LFAnything-flagged players first.
I will even hold a space on a nearly-full team if I haven't yet heard back from a player flagged as such (for a little while, anyway).
As a Former/Leader, I really do appreciate those who go to the trouble of setting it appropriately. And I will happily hit you up if you're flagged but in a mish, as there have been times when I've gone solo for lack of a team, but left my flag lit, hoping someone will drag me out of that solo mish to join a good team. -
Funny I should see this topic on the same day I tallied the amount I spend yearly on a certain should-be-legal substance I like to burn and inhale just about every time I play.
Which costs about 20 times more per month than my sub.
Now THAT'S depressing.
