Really newbie question please
Open your mission tab once everyone has joined the team, then hit the select task button.
Hello all
I have a very basic question about the game that I need to know now that I haven't had to worry about yet. I have a job to kill an elite boss that I need help with, and I know there's some mechanic about creating a team to get everyone on the job to make it the active job for the team, but I need to know how to do this. Can anyone please let me know? I would really appreciate it Thanks in advance. |
Click that and it will set the mission for the team. Only the team leader can select missions for the team, so if you are not the leader, ask for the star or ask the leader to select the mission you want them to help you with.
New story arcs coming soon (ARC IDs will be aded when I finish the arc):
So, you want to join the Hellions? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)
Sparks & Steel (level 5-20 Heroic arc)
and
So you want to join the Skulls? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)
Ok that's what I needed to know thanks! Question is though I tried to do this last night and I couldn't find the "Select task" button. I'm pretty sure I was leader to since I invited the team. Will try it again and see if it works. Appreciate it

I've never been sure if this is intended or a bug, but it works.

I can be found, outside of paragon city here.
Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.

I've been known to force the mission when the leader shows every sign of going AFK. It's kind of a jerk move and I don't use it often, but I'm glad I have the option.

So you think you're a hero, huh.
@Boltcutter in game.
There's only one sure-fire way to guarantee you're always playing on a fun team...
Without using Blind Invites
(Any instructions marked with an *asterisk* have additional comments below.)
Prep: Copy/Paste the following /Bind command into your Chat line, this is your Invite Bind:
/bind i "tell $target, Level $level-ish team LFM - join us?"
Prep: Get at least one mission from a Contact and/or the Police Radio, preferably more than one.
-In "Missions" tab, use Select Task to set an Active Mission before you begin your Search.
Begin Searching:
-Click Team tab on Chat window
-Click Find Member
This is the Search Window
-Look at heroes in the same Zone as you (default listings on Search Window activation)
Are any:
-Level appropriate?*
-Not already on a team (not greyed out)?
-Not flagged as "Not Looking for Team" (red circle with line thru it)?
If Yes, click on the name and Press i to activate your Invite Bind.
Repeat until you've hit all viable heroes.
-Now Refine your Search
In Search Window, use drop-down Level list to select an appropriate level-range* & hit Search button.
-Look at heroes in various zones

Pay attention to your Chat window.
For any positive replies, click on the name and click "Invite to Team".***
Still not full?
-Refresh your Search Window listings by hitting Search button again.
-Use other drop-down menus on your Search window to further Refine your Search.
----First by Archetype (Tank, Blaster, Defender, etc.)
-----Then by Zone (trickier - a "last resort" for me)
Enjoy your full team!

Further comments:
* "Appropriate level" will vary from player to player, it's whatever you feel comfortable with.
---The new SuperSideKicking mechanic means *any level* hero is now an "appropriate level", as long as everyone's comfortable with the arrangement.
---I tend to stay in a +4/-4 range, with preference to lower-level chars, simply because I get more Yes replies from them.
** Solo Players listed as "in mission" used to be off-limits for me. But after some "last-resort" Invites, I now consider them fair game, in light of how many "in mission" players have jumped at the chance to Exit their solo mish to join a good team.
*** Consider using this to supplement your Invite Bind:
/macro LFM "say, Looking for more...$$emote Binoculars"
---Your first joiner might be thinking "'Team LFM - join us' and there are only 2 of us? Rip-off!" To avoid this, the first 2 people to join, hit the LFM macro immediately after you see them appear on the Team list.
---The Binoculars emote makes it clear to any nearby heroes, that I'm actively LFM and not picking my nose or AFK (plus it occasionally gets a LOL).
Final Note: I find I generally get a 1-in-3 positive response rate, i.e. for every 3 Invite Binds I send, I get one No, one (no reply), and one Yes. So expect to send 20-ish Invite Binds to fill a Team from scratch.
But by using a Bind vs. a Macro, you can have one hand on the mouse to select names in your Search Window, and one on your Invite Bind key, and hit 20-ish heroes in under :30 seconds.
Good luck!
Open your mission tab BEFORE ANYONE HAS joined the team... choose a mish and hit the select task button.

Why wait 'til you have a full team before setting mish?
The first 6 players to join are just standing around picking their noses waiting...
This way everyone can get their butts moving toward the mish door while you flesh out the team.

Great post overall!
I've also found this to be true. Most solo players will exit a mission as soon as invited. Some prefer to finish their active mission first, and ask if they can send a tell when done, which I am usually fine with, myself.

If I'm between 1/4 to 3/4 or so, I'll probably decline to join.
If I'm within a room or so of finishing, then I'll respond with "sure, just let me finish this up...almost done with it".
All of that assumes that you've given me a real tell and asked me if I'm interested in joining.
True blind invites, rude invites, or unintelligable invites receive no response.

I agree, select the mission before you start inviting. I find it comforting to join a team and already see a selected mission. It makes me think the leader is on the ball.
As far as I know, as long as I have the star the "Select Mission" button is always available. It doesn't just appear when a mission is selected. It just doesn't do anything if a mission isn't selected. Is it sometimes off the bottom of the list and you have to scroll down? I don't guess I've noticed one way or the other.
I solo a lot, but unless I am halfway or more through I would rather team than not and I am happy to replay a mission.
My question is why, when my search comment says "no blind invites plz" do I get a couple every time I am for longer than an hour?
Do you suppose people think I typed and forgot it was there? it's my default message. When I am marketing for a few I put that and when I am not, "NO BLIND INVITES PLZ".

I dunno why.
There are so few "NEVER EVER DO THIS" kinda things in this game, it really irks me as well, when I get Blind Invites.
The only time I even *consider* using a *form* of Blind Inviting, is when:
1.) someone is flagged as actively LFT,
2.) they've not Replied to my Invite Bind,
AND
3.) the team *really* needs that particular AT.
My reasoning is that they're most likely AFK, and my Invite Bind Tell may get pushed off their Chat screen (by Broadcast, SG or Coalition chatting) by the time they get back.
Other than that, I consider Blinds strictly off-limits.
Well, speaking of replying to invites,
I always reply to a tell inviting me to team even if I can't. I usually include my reason for declining "only marketing, just on for a few, fixing to log, etc"
It's just polite and I want some of those folk to invite me in the future when I do have time to play. I know people are kind of rough on PUGs but some of the most fun I have had has been watching other people AT's and sets I don't.
Besides, how I can I not love the time when some player said "You're 14 aren't you?" and his reply "How did you know that!" another player said "Dude, we all know that."
Fun times, fun times.
I dunno why.
