I'm a newb. I come from WoW, CO, and some other stuff. CO has horrible customer service and ripped me off for a 3 months of gaming. I'm back to the original and must say I love it. There are a couple things I'm looking for and hope someone can help me. I'm looking for a tool that lets you test your build and power scheme. I see one exists I just don't know what it is or where to find it. But a thottbot-esque website would be nice. Also, what is AT? I see this in alot of thread but I have no ide what it means. I've revived a fire/fire toon I made a long time ago...any suggestions would be great. I know I miss ALOT of the time but my aoe rocks. Any advice would be great...thanks!!

www.cohplanner.com is a build planner site. Both offline and Online - don't think either have dual pistols yet, however.

www.paragonwiki.com (alias wiki.cohtitan.com) is what you are looking for, I believe. It's the best for this game. CAUTION : DO NOT USE Wikia's version, virus/RMT'ers/Incorrect Info.

AT stands for Archetype - Defender, Blaster, Corruptor, Stalker, etc.

If you are looking for help on a character, try it's archetype-specific forum.

Orc&Pie No.53230 There is an orc, and somehow, he got a pie. And you are hungry.

Negaduck: I see you found the crumb. I knew you'd never notice the huge flag.

It's hard to offer a lot of advice without knowing your exact build but you mentioned making it a long time so I'm thinking that the problem might be that you made it before enhancement diversification. Pre-ED most people slotted with damage enhancements almost exclusively but post-ED you get basically zero benefit from slotting more than three of the same enhancement type. Given that go through your attack powers and make sure that you have at least one accuracy enhancement in each (possibly two if you like fighting higher level enemies). Additionally there are a few other things you can do to boost accuracy. The simplest is to get a Kismet: +6% Accuracy IO. You can slot this in Combat Jumping or Hover if you took one of them as your travel pre-requisite power and it provides a 6% to hit bonus which if you're slotting 1 accuracy SO in every attack increases your chance of hitting by about 8%.

I had a free respec that I just used. From memory I have:
Ring of Fire
Combustion
Aim
Fireball
Fire Blast
Fire Breath
Hasten
Fire ****(it is a quick shot fast power)
Fire Sword Circle
Build Up
Super Speed

I'm lvl 23 currently. What is IO? I'm sure its not input/output. Pre and post ED...I don't know what ED is?

Ok, that sort of establishes how long you've been away .

ED is Enhancement Diversification. Basically it's a set of diminishing returns that kicks in if you slot to many of the same enhancement type in a power. Rule of thumb is don't slot more than three of the same type in each power. If you want the actual math you can find it here:
http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Enhanc...iversification

IO means Invention Origin Enhancement (this is a player term, not an in-game one by the way). They are basically an alternate enhancement system different from the standard enhancements you've been using. They differ in a few ways. First off you can't buy them in a store, you have to acquire a recipe and salvage and then craft them. You get both recipes and salvage as drops or you can buy them from other players (there are a couple of other methods but those are the two basic ones). In addition unlike regular enhancements they don't expire as you level up and always provide the same fixed bonus. Finally some IOs are called "Set IOs" if you slot multiple IOs from the same set in a power you get a "set bonus" that increases your overall ability.
http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Invent...n_Enhancements
http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Invent...hancement_Sets
http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Invent...nt_Set_Bonuses

The game is still balanced around SOs so you don't need to use the IO system at all unless you want to (many people ignore it entirely). But if you enjoy it then it can be a lot of fun.

Something else that changed while you were gone: Money.

IO's vary in price from "about the same as SO's" to "more money than you can imagine". The really expensive IO's are a bad thing [if you are buying them] or a good thing [if you're selling them] or a little of both.

The good news is, level 50's make ridiculous money and the market spreads it around with great efficiency. So you can sell your salvage and recipes and a few of them will sell for prices like 100,000 inf each (that's three SO's for one piece of salvage, yes.) Most of them will sell for trivial money, but regardless, you should never be short on cash for your basic enhancements.

Actually, tell me what server you're on and when you play. I'll swing by and drop off 5 or 10 million to get you started in life.

Mini-guides: Force Field Defenders, Blasters, Market Self-Defense, Frankenslotting.

So you think you're a hero, huh.

OK - now it's more clear that you are a Fire/Fire BLASTER.

FYI, Fire/Fire could also be a Fire Melee/Firey Aura Scrapper or Brute or a Fire/Fire Tanker or (more recentlyIIRC) a Fire Control/Fiery Assault Dominator.

The *** Power you list is "Flares" BTW.

Head on over to the Blaster forum and explain that you are poor and ask for Build help.

To solve the poor problem, check the Market forum to see methods of raising Inf faster.

For teaming help, go to the Server forum for your server and ask what Global Channels are best for teaming and join them.

And go take Fulmens up on his offer of seed money.

Laf, definitely should do that! As nearly a 42 month veteran, I have 1 toon with more than 5 mil influence, and I think he's in the 17 mil neighborhood. Compared to lots of these folks, I'm living in a dumpster down by the river.

http://www.cohtitan.com is a good hub for sites with information.

Build planners, there's an online version that I haven't used recently, but its fairly dated. There's an offline planner called MIDS that was just updated this week with Dual Pistols and new information.

There are links to them on the COH Titan homepage at the top I believe, as well as a link into the correct wiki.

IOs = Invention Origin Enhancements. A different type of enhancement. The main difference between them is if buying from the crafting tables instead of the market they are more expensive that the older 'normal' enhancements (TOs, DOs, SOs). However while the older enhancements 'expire' when you outlevel them by more than their level, IOs stay the enhancement value. A level 30 IO will be just as powerful when you're at level 50 as at level 30, while a level 30 SO will be worth nothing at level 34. Also a level 50 IO is more powerful than a level 50 SO.

Some special types, usually called Set IOs, offer enhancements to more than one aspect at a time while the Common IOs are just one. Set IOs also add an additional global boost to your character if you get more than one in a set. There is lots and lots of information and details I'm skimming past here that all can be found on the wiki if you have the time to research it.

ED = Enhancement Diversification came around about when City of Villains came into play. Basically it adds some diminishing returns if you slot enough enhancements for one aspect of a power. Its intention was to encourage players to get away from putting 6 of one type of enhancement into a power and diversify the enhanced aspects. A good rule of thumb is more than 3 SOs for one aspect into a power, and you're hitting the diminished returns and 'wasting' the slot, but again the wiki has more detailed information.

AT = Archetype. I'm not a WOW player, but I believe they are similar to classes. Blaster, Defender, Tank, Brute, Mastermind, etc.

I'm going to go ahead and anticipate a "But I can't find a team" post here, in hopes of crafting a useful copy/paste reply I've already wished I had, like a dozen times. So here goes. Please offer suggestions and corrections for my final copy-pasta version:

There's only one sure-fire way to guarantee you're always playing on a fun team...

How to Form a full 8-player team in under 5 minutes
Without using Blind Invites

(Any instructions marked with an *asterisk* have additional comments below.)

Prep: Copy/Paste the following /Bind command into your Chat line, this is your Invite Bind:

/bind i "tell $target, Level $level-ish team LFM - join us?"

Prep: Get at least one mission from a Contact and/or the Police Radio, preferably more than one.

-In "Missions" tab, set one as your Active Mission before you begin your Search.

Begin Searching:

-Click Team tab on Chat window
-Click Find Member

This is the Search Window

-Look at heroes in the same Zone as you (default listings on Search Window activation)

Are any:
-Level appropriate?*
-Not already on a team (not greyed out)?
-Not flagged as "Not Looking for Team" (red circle with line thru it)?

If Yes, click on the name and Press i to activate your Invite Bind.

Repeat until you've hit all viable heroes.

-Now Refine your Search

In Search Window, use drop-down Level list to select an appropriate level-range* & hit Search button.

-Look at heroes in various zones

Are any:
-Level appropriate?*
-Not already on a team (not greyed out)?**
-Not flagged as "Not Looking for Team" (red circle with line thru it)?

If Yes, click on the name and Press i to activate your Invite Bind.

Repeat until you've hit all viable heroes.

Pay attention to your Chat window.
For any positive replies, click on the name and click "Invite to Team".***

Still not full?
-Refresh your Search Window listings by hitting Search button again.
-Use other drop-down menus on your Search window to further Refine your Search.
----First by Archetype (Tank, Blaster, Defender, etc.)
-----Then by Zone (trickier - a "last resort" for me)

Enjoy your full team!

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Further comments:

* "Appropriate level" will vary from player to player, it's whatever you feel comfortable with.

---The new SuperSideKicking mechanic means *any level* hero is now an "appropriate level", as long as everyone's comfortable with the arrangement.

---I tend to stay in a +4/-4 range, with preference to lower-level chars, simply because I get more Yes replies from them.

** Solo Players listed as "in mission" used to be off-limits for me. But after some "last-resort" Invites, I now consider them fair game, in light of how many "in mission" players have jumped at the chance to Exit their solo mish to join a good team.

*** Consider using this to supplement your Invite Bind:

/macro LFM "say, Looking for more...$$emote Binoculars"

---Your first joiner might be thinking "'Team LFM - join us' and there are only 2 of us? Rip-off!" To avoid this, the first 2 people to join, hit the LFM macro immediately after you see them appear on the Team list.

---The Binoculars emote makes it clear to any nearby heroes, that I'm actively LFM and not picking my nose or AFK (plus it occasionally gets a LOL).

Final Note: I find I generally get a 1-in-3 positive response rate, i.e. for every 3 Invite Binds I send, I get one No, one (no reply), and one Yes. So expect to send 20-ish Invite Binds to fill a Team from scratch.

But by using a Bind vs. a Macro, you can have one hand on the mouse to select names in your Search Window, and one on your Invite Bind key, and hit 20-ish heroes in under :30 seconds.

Good luck!

And it doesn't look like you've ever posted here before, and you've had experiences with MMOs not known for friendly forums, so I'll let you know: here in Player Questions, every day is 'help a newb day'.

I'm going to second the advice that someone above gave, and suggest that you find out your server's global chat channels. I set up 2 task forces and joined in a third last night simply by sending out a message that the TFs were forming, and that I needed additional support. The groups were filled in less than 10 minutes.

There are a lot of people out there looking to get in on large team action, but most dont seem to want to form their own groups, and not all are in the same level range. By being able to access a large pool of players, regardless of where in the world they are (and this includes crossing the red side/blue side divide), you can easily get groups up and running.

Fulmens is my hero!

I'll add 5-10 mil to that, cause I want to play nice too. PM me your global n server.

Triumph Lurker: mintmiki 50 emp/archer
basically, if you see a miki on Triumph, it's probably cute and it's probably me.

Huge thanks to cuppamanga and all the folks in the mac help forum for prolonging my borrowed time on this game.
