    Agge make me sad

That was a downright clever use of a couple of lines from an awesome song in an awesome movie!

I want to see "Cabaret" added to your Netflix queue NAO!
  2. Late to the party, haven't been keeping up on developments, but wondering: are we assuming there will be new mission maps in Praetoria? Has there been any confirmation? Any guesses/info on how many?
  3. Welcome to the game and the forums!

One bit of advice I like to offer all new players:

The only way to guarantee you're always on a fun team is to form one yourself...

Leading a team requires some minor effort on your part, but the more you do it, the easier it becomes, and can be very rewarding.

It's not hard at all to put a full, 8-member team together in less than 5 minutes without using annoying Blind Invites.

    Here's how.

  5. Just wanna put in a plug for the Nostromo N52 Speedpad external controller.

I've got mine mapped for (off-mouse hand) WASD movement, jumping, Sprint, Hasten, etc., with the lowest row of keys + thumbpad as #s 1-8 for power activation.

Targeted powers (Rain of Arrows, Wormhole, etc.) go in the base-of-thumb button, with "Nuke" or "Grenade" powers on the top-thumb button.

Works like a charm, highly recommended for gamers and/or very tall people like me, with huge wingspans, for whom using the keyboard itself feels "cramped".

  7. Great, StarGeek & Schismatrix thx - what about AT - my current fave is an Ill/Kin 'troller - will that be useful? Or I could go with a full-on Healing Defender. Or my Archery Blaster is pretty tricked-out. I think center-stage Tank would be a bad idea for a first-timer.

Y'know, just knowing that it's standard procedure for the raid leader to be shouting instructions takes a big load off my mind - as long as someone's telling me what to do I should be okay.
  8. I'm set to run my first-ever Hami raid with Leandro on Freedom at 9p tonight...I've read ParagonWiki on the raid, and looked at a couple of the Guides...but I'm still a little nervous I'm gonna screw something up.

Most of the Guides seem to assume some familiarity with the raid, but I'm going in cold-turkey.

Any tips for a first-timer on this raid?

-What's the most desired AT - I have a stable of 50s to choose from?

-What's the best AT for a raid newb to be on, if different from above?

-Do we gather IN the Hive, or in Eden, then enter Hive as a group? Leandro said at the "Safe Rock" - will it be obvious where that is?

-How do I make sure I don't end up embarrasing myself in there?
  9. Mac - this is a known issue that some players encounter - either new players or players who've just upgraded some key piece of hardware.

Unfortunately, the "fix" seems to vary from machine to machine, so as suggested, go to the Tech Issues forums and Search "GL_ARB_Multitexture", and you'll find numerous posts with troubleshooting and correcting suggestions.

For ME, I had to update my *chipset* drivers - not video drivers, chipset drivers. Didn't even know they existed before encountering this error.

But again, your situtation may be different, so Search the Tech Issues forums for more help.

With no offense intended I support this idea.

A tank *can* get by just fine without Taunt, but if you're a conscientious type player, you'll find uses for it - as mentioned above, pulling where necessary, and saving squishies from unwanted attention without disturbing a good-for-AoEing mob grouping.

This is why, as Team Leader, I often take a second to copy/paste the description into Team chat (if it's an interesting read), to share with the rest of my PuG.

You usually don't get more than the first couple of sentences due to copy/pasta limits, but that's usually enough for players who are interested to get the "flavor" of the text & mission.
  15. Yah anytime I see someone doing something truly "stupid", I remind myself that children as young as 4 and 5 years old play this game too.

Which also makes me look in the mirror and wonder what the hell I'm doing with my life.
  16. Lamo if you haven't already, be sure to check out the Player Guides section of the forums.

Reading thru one of the Shield (tank) guides really helped me understand how to get the most +Defense out of that set.

Once you're all set up, there are only a couple of enemy groups in the CoH world that can even dent your defenses.

  18. 1) Due to real-life time constraints (including working a late shift), I PuG exclusively. 100%. I have no long-term Friends in-game, and no commitments to any SG (tho I do join whatever's available to a new creation solely for crafting/TPing convenience).

    2) No actual Friends in-game, so 0%.

    3) "What needs to be done" is ambiguous. My leadship style (I form & lead PuGs pretty much exclusively, only RARELY will I join someone else's PuG)... My leadership style is; if the player's not being abusive or an obvious leech, and bad playing isn't causing undue Team Wipes, just let 'er roll. I can count the number of times I've needed to order my team around (outside the habitual "Follow the Tank please") on one hand. Structure is good...being Bossy is bad.

    4) See above.

    5) I've found adding Friends, even Global Friends, pretty useless, due to my extremely casual play schedule. By the time I log in again, the Hero that I Friended because they were playing so well, is now 21 levels higher than mine.

    6) In 5 years of play, I can count the true jerks on one hand. Were I a Registered Twit-Magnet like the OP, however...who can say?

In summary, I'd surmise that forming one's own PuG, rather than joining someone else's, drastically cuts down on the chances of encountering jerks. With a polite, literate Invite bind, I more often than not, get polite, literate PuGs.

If karma's a boomerang, Psychoti, how many kittens have you drowned this week? 'Cause otherwise you seem like a pretty swell guy!

To avoid confusion - above should read "hollows NOW boast a field hospital..."

Just in case someone read it as "...hollows NOT boast..."

    Ambiguous typos make me antsy.

    Input Lag?

Just fyi this is a well-known issue since I-17 went Live, but most seem able to fix it relatively quickly - use the Forum Search to find beefy threads about this issue, along with fixes to try.
  21. Apologies for off-topic...

My Thrustmaster Fox 2 Pro was working fine with a driving game... I haven't played the game in a while, and now when I go back to it, the joystick won't calibrate correctly to the right side.

It's messed up in Windows Control Panel too, not just the game.

But I feel like I've seen this before and it's not just the joystick giving up the ghost.

It's a USB and the Support page says it doesn't need its own drivers.

I've unplugged it, rebooted, plugged it back in, etc.

    Any suggestions?

I call shenanigans on Ghost Falcon, saying he thinks we've got "one of the" best communities around.

As this is my only MMO (outside of the free trials of WoW and Pirates of the Burning Sea), I'll put it to you guys for confirmation, but don't we have THE BEST community, hands-down?

Thanks Eva that does look pretty!

I wish I could do more TFs but my work and RL schedule often preclude such pursuits.

I'll go wiki Faathim's and try to find a way to wriggle my way onto one.

    Thanks again for sharing!

O and to contribute - I'm weird in that I just like being up high, perched on a smokestack or building-ledge - so the more "built-up" zones are the places for me, though I do enjoy the tranquility of PPark and the outlying islands of Talos, in small doses.
  24. Hellz yeah! Forgot I asked this, back in the day - what a great pile of responses!

I found it interesting how many specific traits I share with other posters who've described themselves.

Such an intelligent, interesting player base we have!

(wait that makes it sound like I consider myself intelligent and interesting - nothing further from the truth, unfortunately!)

Eva I've never actually seen the Storm Palace, mind sharing some of those screenies?

And what is it used for - it's part of a Shadow Shard TF?
