Ok it's bugging me enough to post about it
I have to admit I'm a huge fan of 'the little touches' like that.
Some of the NPC dialogue is very funny.
There was so much to take in when I first started playing (my first real MMO) but I wish I'd done what you did with reading the bios. I'm trying to catch up but that seems like a great way to learn the lore and 'history' of the game.
I still wish I could read the mission descriptions when I'm a team member and not leader. That would be awesome. Reading it off the Wiki isn't the same - especially as a fair bit of villain side seems to be missing.
But kudos to the writers, I do agree.
SAVE CoX info:
Titan Network efforts
Saving CoX events/FB info
You can read the mission descriptions- in the mission, click on the "i"- but there are clues and things that only the leader has access to. Or in the extreme case, only the person in the Khan arc that clicks on a specific glowie has ANY IDEA WHAT'S GOING ON IN THE WHOLE TF.
Mini-guides: Force Field Defenders, Blasters, Market Self-Defense, Frankenslotting.
So you think you're a hero, huh.
@Boltcutter in game.

I've been an on and off player since back in '04 I've tried a few other games, but none has won my loyalty like CoX. When I first started playing I was always pleased by the amount of work that was put into writing all of those missions, all of the dialog, all of those bios etc etc. I remember every time I spotted a new enemy I would right click/info and then read the bio on that enemy while I fought it. I couldn't tell you how much debt I've worked off because there was a mission specific boss that was just knocked down and I had to rush over to right click the body before it and his bio was lost to me. To those who wrote those bios and such I wish to honestly say I really enjoyed reading them and still do, bring that extra umpf to the game that I love. Even the story archs I make sure to read. I loved that with each of the baddies there would be different bios for the different ranks (minion, LT, boss etc)
However, I've noticed a lot of the newer baddies info is generalized from minion on up. First I thought maybe it was just me or maybe just a few of the baddies, but I've heard other people mentioning it as well. I guess from this post I just wanted to get across to the writers that your efforts in the past have been noticed and quite enjoyed, and I hope to see that continue on in the future. Just my 2inf... anyone else? |
Don't count your weasels before they pop dink!
Thank you, Champion.

You usually don't get more than the first couple of sentences due to copy/pasta limits, but that's usually enough for players who are interested to get the "flavor" of the text & mission.
Is there any fix for when i try to click on something in front of me that i end up selecting something behind me that I can't even see. For example the mission door. Often with my MM I am trying to click on a player or target in front of me and I keep selecting one of my pets behind me. There has to be some fix for this right?
Nope. Move your camera around until you get a clear click.

Orc&Pie No.53230 There is an orc, and somehow, he got a pie. And you are hungry.

Negaduck: I see you found the crumb. I knew you'd never notice the huge flag.
There is no targeting bind to click on a door, or a glowie. It is my pet peeve, as I rarely use the mouse for anything except a dropped power and clicking a door/glowie.
EverQuest has a "Use" command that simulates a mouse click on whatever is in the center of your screen. If it is a door, it opens; an item gets picked up; an enemy gets selected. I wish CoX had that.

Some/most doors are labeled "Dr" and can be targeted with "/targetname Dr" or "/targetcustomnext Dr", however, you'd still have to either click on the door or click on your target window's "Action > Interact" to go inside.
As for glowies, you can use the same commands to find and target them. Personally, I have 2 binds set up for this:
The first command is a quick way to re-program the second command:
/bind Control+TILDE "beginchat /bind TILDE targetcustomnext "
TILDE will be programmed to whatever you designate each time you run the first command. If I press Control+TILDE and type "bomb" and press enter, the following bind will be automatically created:
/bind TILDE targetcustomnext bomb
Then I simply keep pressing TILDE to find the bomb. It can get a little tricky if you don't know the exact name of the mission objective, but it can be done. But then of course to interact with it, you would probably still need to click the target window's "Actions > Interact" to activate it.
The same commands can be used to target hostages, escorts and named bosses... but like you said.. it would be nice to have an /interact or something to bypass actually clicking or using that menu.
/targetcustomnext notmypet will target anything except your own pets. Including doors and blinkies, it's pretty useful, though overbroad if you're looking for something specific.
When you say that info is generalized, do you mean, where it says something along the lines of "Minions are no match for a hero of the same level...blah blah blah"? Because I have only ever seen that occur on custom enemies in AE.

Vanguard is a group backed by the United Nations, and headed up by Lady Grey. Their soldiers are specifically outfitted in Impervium armor and with high tech as well as magical weaponry to fight the Rikti. Everything they do is centered around containing the Rikti menace in our world. |
A lot of the "smaller" groups with only one type of critter per rank are similarly lazy, but Vanguard are easily the worst offenders.

I hate running up to a door and stopping. Then I have to reach for the mouse, find the cursor (which won't click if I am too close or too far away), click the door, then drop the mouse and switch back to the keyboard so I can be ready if there are bad guys on the other side. It would be so much easier to run up to the door and press "u"se or "i"nteract and not have to come to a full stop or even move my hands off the keyboard.
But this is kind of a derailment of the OP. More lore is good too!

Vanguard are the prime example of what he's talking about. Every single critter says this:
Every one. From Rangers up to the HVAS. A lot of the "smaller" groups with only one type of critter per rank are similarly lazy, but Vanguard are easily the worst offenders. |
I noticed the Legacy Chain have a lot of types per rank but also have a lot of copy pasting http://cityofheroes.wikia.com/wiki/Legacy_Chain
Also the slag golems have the exact same from minion to boss http://cityofheroes.wikia.com/wiki/Slag_Golems
"What strange forces gave life to these heaps of cast-off metal? There are those who say they are guardians of this island, born to stop the Cage Consortium's rampant destruction. Beware their incredible strength and near-indestructible hides."
These two aren't overly common but still, they're examples.
Don't use Wikia. It's outdated, often wrong (either because it's outdated or because someone doesn't know what they're talking about), and full of spam/ads/RMT.
