Nervous for first-ever Hami raid tonight...

I'm set to run my first-ever Hami raid with Leandro on Freedom at 9p tonight...I've read ParagonWiki on the raid, and looked at a couple of the Guides...but I'm still a little nervous I'm gonna screw something up.

Most of the Guides seem to assume some familiarity with the raid, but I'm going in cold-turkey.

Any tips for a first-timer on this raid?

-What's the most desired AT - I have a stable of 50s to choose from?

-What's the best AT for a raid newb to be on, if different from above?

-Do we gather IN the Hive, or in Eden, then enter Hive as a group? Leandro said at the "Safe Rock" - will it be obvious where that is?

-How do I make sure I don't end up embarrasing myself in there?

Don't be. As long as you're not actively trying to sabotage the raid, you're not going to screw up so bad as to kill it.

Make sure you listen to what the raid leader says and follow their instructions. Every server has variations on how they do things, so you need to pay attention.

Usually, it's in the hive. The Safe Rock is an outcropping south of the center of the zone. When you get close you'll see all the people gathering up there.

You want to be careful getting there, though. There'll be a lot of DE Monsters about, and if you fly, you have to watch out for the Devouring Swarms, which will negate your flying and teleport ability for a long time.

Good points.
Flight/Hover can be very useful in a Hami raid, especially for melee types. If you do go with a melee AT i suggest having lots of extra KB protection if it's not part of your Armor set's standard mez protection. My Spines/Electric used to get bounced around a lot until i got 14+ KB protection since Grounded doesn't work well when airborne and you have to be in the air to melee the yellow mitos.

Since the zone caps at 50 players it's always a better idea to assemble for a raid in The Hive.

Don't worry about messing up the raid. Unless you spam taunt while standing in the middle of a bunch of squishies it's hard to mess up too badly. A Hami raid can be done with less than 30 players, but it's much quicker and easier if everyone pitches in.

Pay attention to your team leader and don't hesitate to ask questions.

i know on Champion and Virtue The Hive tends to fill up early for scheduled raids, so showing up a little early is usually a good idea.

On Virtue though that has resulted in start time creep to the point that the first raid usually starts an hour early. Which isn't that terrible since normally there's at least two or three raids in a row anyway.

i make stuff...

Great, StarGeek & Schismatrix thx - what about AT - my current fave is an Ill/Kin 'troller - will that be useful? Or I could go with a full-on Healing Defender. Or my Archery Blaster is pretty tricked-out. I think center-stage Tank would be a bad idea for a first-timer.

Y'know, just knowing that it's standard procedure for the raid leader to be shouting instructions takes a big load off my mind - as long as someone's telling me what to do I should be okay.

Relax and have fun! I've done more than a few Hami raids now on both sides and the organizers have it pretty much down to a science. Just listen to everything your told and it's probably a good idea to let your team leader know it's your first one. The leaders are great and will be happy to explain exactly what all is involved and what they need you to do. You MAY end up faceplanting a time or two since Hami nad the Mitos are no easy battle but hang in there and unless you die on the last attack you'll leave with no debt and a good chuck of merits or a Hami O.

Nothing else in game quite compares to attacking a giant Jello mold so enjoy the experience! :-D Not sure what you are taking to the raid but worse case click on someone on your team, set yourself to follow and just fire away at whatever they are attacking. heheheh Hey it's how I got through my first raid Hero side with my Blaster!

If you don't have fly/hover bring a raptor pack with at least half an hours fuel. If you have a taunt/damage aura turn it off and don't use Phantom Army. Bring some wakies (any size) and break frees (preferably medium or large ones) but don't fill up your inventory, you'll need room to gather EoEs. Speaking of EoEs, unless you are a Tank or Scrapper give them away, the only time you're likely to take much damage is during the retreat portions and it doesn't matter to much if you die then (someone will TP you and rez you eventually).

My experience (on Virtue at least) is that if the raid ends up short of something it's normally scrappers. In addition several support sets are very useful to have notably empathy (for the regen, so Plant/Empaths are especially useful), Kinetics (for fulcrum shift) and Trick Arrow (to use OSA to provide a target to allow for Fulcrum Shifting in a safe location). Recall Friend is also handy, it's preferred to use the the vet team assemble power but sometimes there aren't enough people with it.

I would say either Blaster or Defender (except for Empathy Defender) since your main job is just to use ST attacks on the blues and then focus on DPSing the big red thing.

Inside the Hive, I recommend arriving early since it's capped at 50 players. To find the safe rock I recommend standing by the entrance and announce in broadcast that you are looking for a team (include your AT so people know what type of team.

Just follow directions and don't worry to much about it. Chances are that even if you do something absolutely stupid people either won't notice or won't realize it was you . As long as you don't kill the OSA the odds of you actually hurting the raid are pretty low.

I'd take the Blaster for a first time (as I mentioned above). The Ill/Kin is useful for the Kinetics portion but as I mentioned above Phantom Army is frowned upon since it can steal aggro from the tank. The Empathy defender is handy but is probably not good for actually learning the raid since you're more focused on keeping the main tank alive.

Here's a shot with the map up. Hamidon will spawn directly ahead in the center.

Bring a ranged toon with hover, I tend to favor /Rad Controllers

I agree with some of the others bring a ranged toon it's a good way to "cut your teeth" on your first time. This also will enable you to see how it's ran and all the stuff that takes place.

Above all else have fun !
