I'm not sure why you are "sigh"ing.

I defer to your greater PvP knowledge.

While a solid PvP build doesn't necessarily need PvPIOs, it seems to me that if you are going to spend as much as this build costs, you might as well get the PvPIOs and do it up right. Just my -albeit not fully informed- opinion.

    Well said.

It's a very expensive build, and it seems to me that you could surely have used more PvPIO sets. I see the Gladiator's Armor sets in there, but it seems like the Devastations and the Numinas could be replaced by PvP sets and you'd be better off in PvP zones.

Do you really need all that -kb?

Has Voltaic Sentinel always allowed Soulbound Allegiance? Cool.
  3. Hey Mac.

I've been looking for an excuse to begin a little PvPing. I don't have any prospective partners. I have no idea what a "good" PvP build/powerset/AT is. If there is enough interest, I might want to join. Perhaps, I should be a sub?
  4. I still have a lvl 22 (or so) spines/dark scrapper that I use to farm magic salvage in Dark Astoria. After 2xp Weekends and stuff, that mid-range arcane salvage (and other salvage) becomes very valuable.

Most of the time, however, my goal is to get to 50.
  5. About 5% of my gaming experience is PvP. I do it from time to time to break up the monotony or play with my podnas who are doing it. When I'm dropping pillboxes for the badge, it's annoying to get interrupted by a real PvPer, but I don't fault him for it at all. Sometimes, I'll turn and smack him good with a Seismic Smash and beat on him or sometimes I just leave. Usually, the latter works best because the LAST thing a PvPer wants is for you to leave the zone. Some ideas:

    1) A PvP "phase" power. It makes you impervious to PvP attacks in PvP zones. It has a long cool down to keep players from using it in combat. Maybe it's a recipe drop or a real money item, doesn't matter.

    2) A "white flag". You fly the white flag in the PvP zone and you can be attacked, but if you are killed while flying the white flag, the attacker loses all PvP rep and his drop rate gets turned off for 24 hours.

    3) To bring in new PvPers... increase PvP drop rates for players who spend less time in the zone. I was tooling around in RV, totally wary of PvP, but giving it a try, when I got dropped a Gladiator's Strike Proc. Holy Moley! That was awesome. Since then, I go in much more often. Give new PvPers a good experience and they may come back.

    4) PvP temp powers dropped in PvE. Little cool things like jet packs or oversized guns.

    Just some thoughts.

    Soloing Farmer

Yeah, Fire/Kins are still the top dog. However, I've seen other builds also farm more-than-effectively. Spines/Dark is a damn fine farmer, as is Spines/Fire, but the best scrapper for my money is Elec/SD. Lightning Bolt and Shield Charge are awesome. Tanks generally aren't good farmers, but I have a Fire/Stone with a farming build that is only slightly slower than a Fire/Kin.

If you are starting from scratch, then the Fire/Kin is the best. Off your list, I would go with the Spines/Dark (watch the end usage) or the Spines/Fire.

Anyway, how its the game right now? leveling is still a pain? I remember you could only do missions in groups, solo was not an option.
    And finding groups took forever.
Personally, I think the game is much better now than it ever has been. True, some servers are pretty deserted, but there is still a lot of "arresting" going on. Soloing is always an option, but teaming isn't difficult if you know where to look.
  8. I also think Fighting would serve you well. If you have unlimited funds, you can slot so many goodies in those powers, -kb IOs, LotG +rech, Glad Armor +def, Shield Wall +res, Steadfast Prot +def, Aegis psi res, and even Boxing can mule Absolute Amazement.

Plus, Tough and Weave are handy powers without all the finery.
  9. Sounded fun. I would have loved to join you guys, but I teach an early class and had to crash. You wanna try it again on a weekend night, I'm game.

    Hami last night

I had a late night at work and, thus, couldn't make it, but I'm sure you did a great job, LSK. You are a fantastic team leader and so I'm not surprised that the Hami went well with you at the helm.
  11. People play this game with sound?
  12. For what it's worth...

Because of free transfers, a guy I play with frequently moved over to another server temporarily to participate in an event. A well-known griefer on Justice immediately took his now-available name on Justice. He is charging two billion influence to give it back.

This isn't right, no matter how you look at things. And this shouldn't be allowed to happen. If names attached to globals keeps this kind of nonsense from occuring (especially if transfers become more commonplace) then I am all for it.

    Silliness.

    Yeah, I know, Moooooom.

Actually, I just brought over a 50 MM from Infinity. I'll take her through Warburg and grab some nukes, and Bloody Bay for some Shivans this week and then try and make my first villain raid next week.

My brute is 39, so he's getting there, as well.
  14. If your Willpower/ tank is going to have any two of Quick Recovery/Stamina/Physical Perfection, then you are probably not going to need that very valuable IO. Save it for another toon.
  15. I think it's obvious that Hami is trying to leave Freedom. Over on Justice, we have that fat blob in check and he doesn't move anywhere... except to Hami-oblivion.

You guys really need to get your gigantic single-celled organisms in line.
  16. I play my 50's all the time. I vastly prefer the post-50 game to the leveling grind. And I would not like to see the level cap raised for all of the reasons enumerated above. The only thing I would like to see are additional slot opportunities for busy 50's. I'd love to be able to get a few extra slots in all of my 50 toons. Even toons that are "set" could use an extra slot in Swift or Hurdle, or a defense slot in Combat Jumping.
  17. Yup, D & B in Milpitas. I was there as well.
  18. I am in a ice/ice blaster duo (was a trio, but one dude left), and it absolutely ROCKS, but that is mainly because all that slow stacks. One does not do nearly as well as two. I would bet that four or five of them would shut everything down and pick off nearly-frozen mobs with ease.

Ice/ice may not seem as blastery as some of the other sets, especially fire/fire, but I would argue that it is more surviveable.

    City Vault Beta

I got a chance to talk to Brian Clayton at HeroCon about City Vault. What he said echoed what has been written above. Essentially, if too many people logged onto the Vault, the whole game would feel it. Not acceptable.

It is something they want to do, but it has been put on the back burner because other things came up. However, they have no intent of scrapping the idea, and if they can figure out how to make it work, most of the groundwork is done and it could come active quickly thereafter.

I'm hopeful, but not holding my breath.
  20. Contact someone going to Herocon. Send them the money. They buy it when they are there and send it to you.

Last year, a buddy of mine had his trip to Herocon paid for by a player (who couldn't make it) who just wanted all the goodies in the store.

What? You came to THAT conclusion?

I think it is the opposite. I dual box to make it LESS COMPLICATED to transfer loot between toons. I dual box to make it LESS COMPLICATED to get accolades on several toons. I dual box to make it LESS COMPLICATED to run long TFs in big zones or with no movement. I dual box to make it LESS COMPLICATED to PL my own toons.

I went three years playing this game without dual boxing. The game is much LESS COMPLICATED since I started.
  22. Yeah, I really gotta hand it to him. He has a real gift for knowing when I'm not paying attention and killing my toons when they aren't fighting back.

And he is really having a good time doing it. I am so glad he is.

I guess that's what PvP zones are for, right?
  23. I can echo all of this positive Fire/ tank feedback on this thread. My main is a lvl 50 Fire/Stone with a very expensive build. I recently added the Fury of the Gladiator, Gladiator's Armor, Shield Wall, and Panacea uniques and that coupled with good IO sets (and the requisite Tough and Weave) he's as sound as any tank out there. Pricey, but tough.

For the Fire/ build, I STRONGLY recommend the Fury of the Gladiator PvPIO set. It offers -KB and you can slot it all over. It goes great in Blazing Aura and Burn (if you use it) and your secondary is bound to have a PBAoE. Once you slot it three times, you can dump Acrobatics and still tank the Hamidon.

Fire/ can still rock, but it is not a set-it-and-forget-it set like Stone/ or Will Power/.

    I miss . . .

    For my homies...

I miss my buddy, @La Pulga, who I haven't seen for over a year. I also miss @Vrefem who only played for a year or so, but we had a great time together. And I miss @Niknakpattywak who was there when I dinged my first 50 (Nakoa) and (with her husband) was always good for a laugh.
