Wider access to a specific power?

Namely, Prestige Power Slide. I want it for one of my characters (which may lead to more, but what the hey?), but I have little to no chance of making it to HeroCon to get it.

I know that the PP sprints are accessible after one year as a Vet reward, so the PP Slide could be added to the system as a later reward, or something like that.

Thoughts? Or is it a hopeless dream? I await your answers.

The Prestige Power Slide came in the CoH collector's edition and as a paid for extra will never be given away free.

However, I do not think that another $10 in-game goodies pack for the CoH CE stuff would be entirely unwarranted or unwelcome (granting the Prestige Power Slide and Cape of the Four Winds, along with the VIP/Destined One badge)

... and this is coming from someone who went out and purchased the CoH CE for $80

I dunno. They did do the Pre-Order costume stuff for CoV, and the special sprint powers. CoV was also "given" to all CoH players that had never purchased the Expandalone, and CoH was "given" to all CoV players that had never purchased CoH. So the precedent is set for paid stuff from the past to be given away for free.

That being said, I am against issuing the Prestige Power Slide for free. I'm actually against re-issuing it at all. Much like a badge it's a mark of what you've done "For the Game." Sometimes things should remain exclusive.

Maybe an option though would be to make a new Power Slide animation, with different colors or a different animation styling. Something that satisfies the urges of those who want to glide around, but still preserves the original Prestige Power Slide as a special treat for those that bought the Collectors Edition.

Pre-order goodies are not paid for, unless the store you ordered from is scummy. You're not supposed to pay anything extra for a pre-order, so the CoV helmets and prestige sprints were free in the first place.

You could make an argument for opening up CoH and CoV to the opposite side, but I don't think it would be a very strong case.

Preorder is not "Paid extra," unless the store you got it from ripped you off or you couldn't prove you'd preordered anything. So, no, that isn't a precedent. In fact, we were told *from the outset* (with the COV preorder helmets) that they would very probably give them away "at some point in the future." (Pre-COV release, so there were no vet rewards at the time.)

COV/COH is an... odd event. My suspicion? Well, it was done with the buyout. NCSoft management thought it was ridiculous, especially with things like the GvE edition, and combined them. Bases might have had part to do with that, as well.

Plus, you'll note that even WITH the combined game (essentially the GvE edition,) nobody got the GVE goodies that didn't pay for them (either via edition or NCSoft store.)

All that said, I'm not in the least against a "collectors pack" that gave the CE in-game stuff away for $10. Yes, I paid extra. I paid full (what was it, $70? Higher?) price for COV CE and I still don't mind. Plus, I have the physical goodies (several sets of heroclix, art books, etc.)

I love the art book. But most of my HeroClix have gotten broken

Personally, I think it'd be hilarious if they sent out the heroclix, maps, and art book as a vet reward at some point. There are many reasons why it will never happen; it'd just be funny.

Tbh i dont want to see a "pack" really. i like the idea of getting a limited edition type thing. even though i have missed out on some. the idea of putting tht into a pack paid or not is well..insulting to those who at the time thought they were getting something limited.

My husband just bought me what is suppose to be an unopened box of CoH collector's edition online for $26 after shipping...eeeeeeeeee.

Their problem, not the devs'. Best I can recall, the in-game items were never referred to as limited, merely exclusive. Charging money still keeps them exclusive, but allows anyone to potentially access the content.

Considering the relative rarity of both Collector Editions, and the desirability of some of their associated perks (the VIP badge is a big stickler for some, I'd bet), I think it's been a long time coming.

I like this idea. Even if the travelling speed were sacrificed a bit to differentiate from the original "exclusive" version, I would go for it.

Well...the Arachnos pre-order helmets are 'free' as a Veteran reward.
So...add the cape and sprint in there?

This line sort of bugs me. Among the stores that do pre-orders around here now, be it Wal-Mart, Gamestop, Rhino Games, or did pre-orders in the past, such as when EB-Games was a separate franchise, every single one requires that you put some money down on a pre-order in-store. I've yet to go to a single retail store that allowed pre-orders with no money down. The first time I've seen a no-money down pre-order came with Steam allowing users to pre-order, but not charging the card until the game shipped. Granted, Gamestop online now allows to do pre-orders with no money charged until the game ships... but when CoV launched? That wasn't the normal practice.

So yes, the pre-orders, at the time they were made, were a "paid" extra since you probably had to shell out some money for the pre-order. I remember Gamestop's minimum money down being $5.

Granted, that pre-order money was deducted from the purchase price when you bought the full game, so except for those that didn't pick up the pre-order, there was no actual additional charge for the extra content.

Contact someone going to Herocon. Send them the money. They buy it when they are there and send it to you.

Last year, a buddy of mine had his trip to Herocon paid for by a player (who couldn't make it) who just wanted all the goodies in the store.

Never argue with stupid people. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

So you did not pay extra for your preorder. Back to point 1 then.

Yes, many stores which provide pre-orders require you to give a down payment on the order. But that money goes directly to the cost of the game, as you admit. You don't pay extra for a pre-order, you just pay part of the cost earlier.
