  2. I'm not a build expert but that has a lot of the same pieces as my own build (based on Fury's) so it looks pretty solid to me. But it's an expensive build. I figure about 8 billion for the purples (roughly 400 million per), maybe 2.5 to 3 billion for the Panacea set (heal and proc are the pricey ones), 2 to 2.5 billion for the Glad Armor proc (I bought mine with a-merits -- in fact I earned 3 in about 5 weeks using 3 characters, so I have two stored in my base ) ... 400 million per Enzyme, 2-300 million for the Membranes, I'm not sure what the price is on the Fury of the Gladiator proc, I have one in my base too (courtesy of Pumbumbler's big event at the end of last year) but I didn't use it in my build. And of course the LotGs and Miracle and Numina uniques cost money or a-merits too. Obliterations are cheaper than they used to be though I think?

It's best to focus on one piece at a time. ^_^

I took my own build out to the RWZ to try out the old RWZ challenge tonight. It didn't really count because my alpha slot means level 54s are only +3 to me... I guess if I really want to brag I have to unslot that first... but I was able to pull it off in only 5 attempts, and that felt pretty good. Even +3 rikti with 3 bosses and no temps, inspirations, or other nonsense is not exactly easy. ^_^ I assume I could pull off a real RWZ challenge with enough tries, but I'm not sure I can maintain my focus for that long, heh.

(Also, I build my scrappers with level 30-33 IOs because I run a lot of TFs... so I probably sacrifice a little bit doing that.. but I still did okay. ^_^ )

Anyway, all that goes to say -- you can have much fun with an em/sd scrapper with a build like the build you're proposing.
  3. I predict an explosion of new alts after servers come up tomorrow, if all things go well. ^_^
  4. Just FYI, I read the forums every day and I did not know about discounted server transfers until after the fact, and I mostly learned from threads like this where people complained that they didn't know about it until after the fact.

Also, _Klaw_ apparently still doesn't know about discounted server transfers...
  5. Did a CoP run today and for that, you have a few special phrases:

"Heroes and Vigilantes only" means anyone can join. "Villains and Rogues only" means the same thing.

"Enter XXX base" means to enter a random base. Or just stand around for another five minutes, either works.

"Take the resonators/spires to 30%" means "DESTROY IT NAO! What are you waiting for?"
  6. general incompetence and my parole officer, brilliant. ^_^
  7. There are a variety of ways to do it. Fury Flechette has builds for fire/sd and em/sd for all income levels http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=216944. But you can adapt the same ideas to most primaries.
  8. It's sad that so many of the pictures posted in this thread are no longer available... I still want to try and do this... but I haven't done any base building for a long while. What items are available that you can attach the small wall lamps to besides walls?
  9. Grant Cover is a nice power but not vital. You're a damage-dealer first, buffing your teammates is a useful second priority.

One With The Shield can be skipped if you softcap.

    I don't skip anything else.
  10. Today I finished my electric melee/shield build based on Fury's very expensive build here. I figure at a conservative estimate it's a more than 10 billion build -- estimating that each purple cost about 400 million, that's 2 billion per set, so that's 8 billion right there. Then there's the PvP def IO which I bought with amerits but which I would value at about 2.5 billion, and the Panaceas -- the heal and the proc together are about 2 billion (I actually spent 2.7 billion on them, but I'm aware that I overpaid). The Enzymes are running about 400 million each too, and I have 4 of those in my build. The Membranes were cheaper, about 250 million each I think? Anyway that's roughly 15 billion right there, and that doesn't count the other IOs, most of which I had from my previous build. ^_^

But it's a ton of fun to play, I gotta say! 1,000% better than what I had before.
  11. I'll sell anything, for whatever profit I can get. Doesn't matter. If I have SO's on me and I forgot to vendor them, and I have empty slots, I toss 'em up for 1 inf.

For random drops I really don't cae how much profit I make, if any. For ecipes that I buy and craft, I'm generally loathe to list them for less than 5-6 million... but I do sometimes. If they sell for 8-9 million I'm happy, that's certainly a low profit but it's still a profit. These are usually orange recipes that require 1 rare component to craft, and where I buy the recipe for next to nothing and the rare salvage for something below 2 million a piece.

  12. The Shock Treatment one isn't really funny by itself, but because of it the Peter Gabriel song Shock the Monkey got stuck in my head. ^_^

But "Not even A Trained Monkey can save you now!" is possibly the best line yet. ^_^
  13. I think it depends on the size of the channel too. For example, some of the TF channels I'm in are really extended groups of friends, so there's chatter in them but they can also go silent for long periods, and in the evening they're mostly busy with people forming TFs and the like. Channels that are meant to be server-wide have a lot more people on them, especially when you talk about things like VirtueUnited or the Freedom version of the same... those channels, the chatter can drown out anything useful because there are so many people to chatter to... I don't mind more moderation in channels like that.
  14. The benefit for you then would be the chance to play with new people (who come to Defiant).

    Let's try over 200 characters...

I'm working on the Virtue ones this morning. ^_^ The "Virtue Seventy-Two"
  16. RagManX is a marketeer... he knows price caps will help him make even more money.

I don't agree with EvilRyu's assessment of the market per se, but he's absolutely right that you can avoid it completely... and that's a good thing if the market makes you angry. I buy a fair amount of stuff myself with merits, a-merits, and tickets.
  17. My scrapper is em/sd/fire, and I find that I really lean on my fire blast as part of my single target attack chain, and when I exempt down I miss it quite a bit. But as far as AoE goes, nothing to complain about. ^_^

I have a fire melee/sd scrapper I'm working up also, I can see where I'd prefer that in some situations. With EM, I find that I'm absolutely in love with Lighting Rod but the rest of the set does not excite me overly much. Lightning Rod is the best AoE a scrapper can have though, so it makes up for a lot. ^_^

Parking Meter: No! My Brother! Prepare to be avenged!
Parking Meter has defeated Hellion Buckshot.

I also considered creating a character named Mah Authoritah so I could one day change all his powers around and then claim in Broadcast:

    "I have respec'd Mah Authoritah!"
    Hilarious ideas, as usual. ^_^

Haven't had A Trained Monkey de-evolved yet, but I expect it will happen soon enough.
  19. I made a new character named "A Trained Monkey" solely for the to amusement provided when the name comes up in NPC dialog.

So this is a thread for what I've managed to come up with so far... if you have a toon with a similarly silly name, feel free to post your funniest NPC comments.

I've only been at this two days so I'm not sure I've hit any real home runs yet, but on the whole I'm keeping myself amused:

  20. When I see people complain about the high price of common salvage, I know they're talking about mid-range salvage. And when I see people reply that salvage is cheap, they're usually talking about top-range salvage. And as others have said, the reason why mid-range is expensive and top-range is dirt cheap is that everyone is playing their level 50s. And while it's obvious that some marketeers try to manipulate prices as much as they can, cheap stuff remains cheap because there's too much of it. (Chaos's experiment weeks ago to do away with all of the Demonic Threat Reports on the market affected prices for less than a full 24 hours I think, and we were back up in the thousands for sale in just another day or so.) And scarce stuff is mostly expensive not because of manipulation but because there's not very much of it.

The two big "problems with the market" are not problems with the market per se: 1) People are mostly playing level 50 characters, so mid-range stuff is hard to come by (this was true before Incarnates because leveling has become so fast over the years, but it's quadruply true right now) and 2) Rampant inflation due to much more influence being created than destroyed -- which is also exacerbated by people playing their level 50s.

But I also think that a large part of the problem is perception. If I complain about the market every time I have to pay 50,000 or 100,000 for a piece of common salvage, and all my friends do the same, then I can eventually get very upset about it. But really, if I'm playing my level 50's (as most people are), then 50,000 influence or infamy is not that big of a deal. I don't worry about it, and therefore I'm not depressed about that aspect of the game.

But this is the first game I've ever played where I feel I can make my characters as tough as possible, where I can have everything I'd ever want, and I don't have to be part of a 50-member elite raiding guild to do it. And that's because of the kind of market the game has.
  21. No u!

Actually I've played a level 25/26 brute the last two nights... but I outfitted him with generic IOs that I crafted myself.
  22. Outfit all your characters with SOs? That's unpossible!
  23. Congrats!

What to do? Well, you might start looking at what would be a dream build for your favorite character or for a new character, or just decent builds for several characters. Since you're marketing so casually I'd just keep doing that, the next billion will come before you even know it. I use the money I make to outfit my various characters with the best builds I can come up with... but I have to market more aggressively to manage my recent builds. ^_^ (I spent something like 3 billion just on Friday -- on two Panaceas and an Apocalpyse, although I overpaid a bit as it turns out).
  24. Yeah, I have 36 slots filled on Virtue. And also 36 slots filled on Virtue on my other account.

    ...what? It's still not enough!
