Space Station View

I was messing around with the base editor and came up with a space view. Rumor has it that some day, we will be able to hold missions in space, so I couldn’t wait for it! Anyway, it was simply done using the small wall lights and glass panels. If you wanted to make your SG appear like a giant space station. I can see you closing off some rooms with this theme.

Very nice Turbo! That's the best idea I've seen yet for a space station feel.

That's awesome, but as a base designer I think I've just thought of a better way to do that. Put the tech floor vent in the ground, and the stuff that shoots up from it kinda look like floating stars.
I like your way though.

Very very cool.

Where did you get the glass panels? I can't find them anywhere.

Think they are the SG logo floor decorations, sans the SG logo.

Oh, that's VERY clever. Nice job. I've been trying to think of ways to make windows with 'depth' outside. The closest I came was a 'frosted skylight'. But this is much more complex, and a nice illusion.

They should be under Room Details toward the end of the list. "SG emblem stand" or something like that. I don't know how the OP got rid of the symbols, though-- there used to be invisible symbols and it was easy, but they 'fixed' that (that's 'broke' to us basebuilders).

Thats what I thought and I tried it but couldn't get rid of the SG logo. Tried to even change colors of log to make it semi-transparent but that didn't work either.

So how does one get rid of logo?

If you rotate the glass 180 degrees on every other one there will be no clipping.

Something interesting I've noticed is that some colors look and behave differently on the different sizes of glass panel. Using the yin-yang symbol with both colors set to the same light blue, the larger glass gives a plain, opaque blue circle in a darker shade of blue; using the same colors on the smaller glass gave a sort of clear glass porthole look. Looking through that 'porthole', object rendering is a little confused. Stacking a few of these together (so that the bases touch without overlap and the holes line up), the glass in the farther ones is not visible at many angles - while the symbols themselves are. It looked like a series of floating lenses behind the first glass.

Can other people get this effect, including a significant difference between the large and small glass panels using the same colors for both, or is it just my video card rendering things oddly?

Incidently, I recommend removing the lowest lights from beyond the window... they are obviously between the viewing character and the floor beyond the glass. That disrupts the illusion for me. If they are gone, the floor beyond the glass is then just some sort of maintanence walkway on the outside. Something else you might try is to put another layer of glass just one step beyond the first to make it look like a stronger window. That might also help further obscure the bars on the lights.

I agree with you, in fact I made that correction already.

...why did I never think of that? Stacker, you're a genius.

I can confirm this, though I don't have a screenie on hand.

Out of curiosity, what wall type did you use for your black space-wall?

Sewer Brick and made the color all black. I found that that was the only skin that worked.

That looks real sweet Turbo, thanks for sharing it. Might have to incorporate that look in my new porter room I've been putting off redoin.

That sounds great. Would love to see your work posted here!

I am actually working on a space station base for kicks incorporating this concept and a few others I have seen throughout my time. For sure I will have the stacker patented light stairs!

Alright, gotta ask, whats is it (or what did you use) for the wall?

I love this idea, BTW. Truely brilliant. Ive been trying to get my SG's base to feel more space-y for awhile, but this might actually make it work.

Sewer brick skin and made the color's black. I found that that made the darkest wallpaper.

To get the a nice black wall you can change the big wall bannes to black on black.

Ahhh. Nice. TYVM Starr. I was trying to use the desks turned around, to see if that worked, but it became a hassel in way too many ways. Ought to be much easier (and cheaper) now.

Again tho, great work. Love that window.
