Quote:Not anymore. But the important part is we got to #1 by doing virtually nothing but buying prestige with influence. Many of our top prestige earners are still level 1.All I needed to know about SGs I learned from the Crazy 88s, the #1 SG of Virtue.
Which shows you what being #1 means. -
Quote:Speaking as someone who has 4 level 50 MA scrappers and nearly twice that many other level 50 scrappers... no. I like MA, but it is not "ultra brutal", even for a mostly single-target set. (My electric melee/shield defense scrapper is ultra brutal... my MA scrappers are just fun, and yes I do have significant IO investments in all of them. ^_^ )Maybe this is old news to everyone but me, but martial arts is really great since it got buffed. This is particularly true with substantial investment into the character, as its top chain is just ultra brutal and isn't quite as recharge intensive as with some sets. That said, I would suggest trying martial arts on a scrapper, or if you plan to wait a bit to make a couple of these characters, you could wait for i21 and make a martial arts tanker of some sort. FA/MA would be pretty mean as tankers go.
It's certainly better than it was, but it's still got one single AoE (and while I like Dragon's Tail, it's not a high damage AoE), and it's all smashing damage which, as most will tell you, is the most highly resisted type of damage.
Of course, many scrapper sets have that same problem.
The best thing about MA is the beauty of the animations and how one flows into the next... that's why I like it. But you can pretty much say the same thing about Kinetic Melee, another mostly-single target set. Very pretty, not on the high end of the damage spectrum, not a lot of AoE.
I have no idea how MA will work on a tank, it might be fun to try that. I do have an MA stalker and boy, does that suck. Stalkers don't even get Dragon's Tail, so no AoE at all.
What I think is: pick what you want for Stalkers and Tanks first, because those have fewer good options. Virtually any choice on a scrapper or brute is not a bad choice. Probably as others have said, ninjitsu and either electric melee or kinetic melee for the stalker... I like the suggestion of electric melee for stalkers because Lighting Rod is hands down one of the best AoEs in the game (certainly the best for a melee character) and most stalkers have little to no AoE.
For Tanks, I might want to take fire melee since it's one of your higher-damage options. Super Strength is good, but even better on a brute.
For scrappers I really like shield since they get the most out of it. I'm very fond of fire melee and electric melee paired with shield for extra AoE and non-smashing/lethal damage, but dark would be a good option too for the heal.
But as usual, the disclaimer is that you can enjoy most sets. I have a level 50 energy melee/invul tank and I like playing her, but if I were to start over on her I wouldn't pick energy melee. It's not a bad set, but there are better options. Likewise I enjoyed MA a lot (having played it on four different scrappers) but these days I mostly play my fire melee/shield and electric melee/shield scrappers because they can simply do things that my MA scrappers can't.
(of course, if you go MA/Shield... you have a two AoEs at that point. ^_^ ) -
If you're at all interested in experience then bosses give the most of it. That's why there used to be boss farms, but not minion farms. ^_^ (In AE at least.)

I've bought four of these IOs via the a-merit route, just this year. In every case I worked both the 5 tips a day and the "convert 50 regular merits" route, because the 20 million for conversion doesn't bother me, I make more than that on just the one character every day on the market. If you work at it every day you can get your shiny IO in 20 days. The tip mission only route will take 60 days but has the advantage of costing you nothing else but your time, and you can indeed run them very fast. I suggest a jump stealth IO in sprint + super speed for stealthing those missions that allow for it. ^_^
I should also point out that I've placed 2 billion bids on the market for up to the 20 days it took me to earn one of these via the a-merit route, without ever purchasing one. Some people told me I was wasting my time going the a-merit route, but I find those people got lucky once on the market and think that it works that way every time. ^_^ -
The proc is 65 hps on my level 50 shield scrappers, and fires fairly often. They have no other heals. I doubt that's worth the money it cost, but I have lots of money so I'm glad to have it. ^_^
-
I've played three MA/WP scrappers and two Katana/Regen scrappers to 50, for various reasons. I also have one broadsword/shield scrapper at 50 and am contemplating eventually leveling up two others that I have in the 30-33 range. And I have another MA/WP scrapper on another server that I still might level up, she's at 24 now.
And the funny thing is, I'm not even that big a fan of MA anymore. -
How long has this zombcare billboard been up in King's Row? I swear I never saw it before last week, and it's right in front of the train station where you really can't miss it. It can't have been there a long time, can it?
I've seen Jack spawn around his throne before, but I came across him a few weeks ago and he was seated upon it. I had no idea he could spawn that way. ^_^ -
Ditto. I'm always willing to bring my 50's on an ITF run. I have fun being one of the major forces of destruction on the team, and if we have a few sub-50's that are still leveling up then no worries. ^_^
-
Wow, Boomtown Nazis are all your fault, because of a failed ITF? Who'd have thunk it?
Quote:Massive damage makes everything else irrelevant, but on a team with few 50's then yeah, debuff is your friend. All AV/Giant Monster fights come down to one thing - debuffs.
If you have a debuffer on the team or better 2 - you can always win. If you have just damage it is possible but you will have to use your origin powers. If you are magic you have an inherent debuff.
But I haven't run an ITF or Khan lately where we didn't win simply through superior firepower. ^_^ -
Did those ever exist? I don't remember any of them, and I thought I knew the game pretty well. ^_^

Someone make a mission in which I get to kill the forum bug. You know, the one that auto-logs you out.
It may not solve anything, but I would run that mission and kill that bug with extreme prejudice!

Three times today for me. It was never fixed but it seems much worse lately.
*edit* My mistake. Four times now. Shall we go for five?
*edit* Woo hoo! Five times today! -
Quote:Which side is more popular isn't really a question of right or wrong. If 66% of the people like something, and you think they're wrong, they're still a majority. A wrong majority perhaps, but that doesn't make them not the majority. And if you think 20,000 people can't be wrong, just look at no-carb dieting!

You should be able to come up with Reactive Armors and Smashing Haymakers on bronze rolls, but I'm not sure what rolls would be best for the LotG's.
-
I don't actually get why people work so hard to skip travel powers, unless it's entirely for concept reasons. But practically speaking, it's easier to take a travel power than it used to be since inherent fitness, and virtually all of my builds will benefit from combat jumping, hover, or hasten, and usually I take TWO of those powers. Plus superspeed and a cheap jump stealth IO in sprint makes stealthing a snap, which is very useful. Almost infinitely useful for me, virtually all my characters have some manner of stealth. ^_^
-
Are you going to do the animations?
I don't expect what you're talking about to happen in CoH, but having played "open sandbox" style games where players can create their own content (outfits, animations, etc), I'm curious if a game will ever come along that incorporates some of that sort of openness in an MMO environment, or if it's even realistically workable. -
<tim the toolman> What we need is MOAR POWER! </tim the toolman>
(Also feel I should link that "America! F-Yeah!" song, but eh....)
...but I do suddenly feel the need to create a "More Power Man" or something.
...and because I can never resist checking these things out: Names that are available on Virtue at the moment include Moar Power, More Power, More Power Man, Go Boom, More Ordnance, More Artillery, More Firepower,... and probably a lot of related names. ^_^ -
You really need to defeat Snaptooth.
(Which the game reminds me to do a lot too.) -
Probably mostly a personal choice, but a level 30 IO is comparable to a level 50 SO so far as I can remember. For me though, level 30 is a nice balance between "I want to be able to exempt down" and "I want my IOs to give me good enchancement percentages, if not level 50". If that makes sense.
Also, level 30 is where some of the higher IO sets start -- Numina, for example. It's rare that I use a set that caps below level 30 or doesn't even begin until 35... for the latter, I'm only familiar with one of the sniper sets that I've used a couple of times. Level 30 is where you have the greatest variety of IOs available (set IOs). Which is actually why I don't like random rolls in that level, there's a greater number of junk sets that you can wind up with.
For generic IOs, I'd guess the "30 IO is comparable to a 50 SO" theory is the driving force. -
My invul and shield scrappers routinely steal aggro from many tanks... just not invul or shield tanks. ^_^
These days, tanking mostly means taking the alpha strike just before every enemy is obliterated -- which a lot of people can do -- or it means being able to keep an AV's attention and not die while everyone beats him down -- which not as many people can do, but it's certainly not limited to tanks and brutes.
The times when you need to hold aggro on a lot of enemies for more than a few seconds are few and far between, and if you run into them you're probably fighting +4 enemies and then you might really need a good tank or brute. ^_^ -
I tend to roll for and/or buy up recipes in the 30-33 range since those are what I use. I also use a-merits for that sort of thing.
Recently I bought my fourth Glad Armor 3% def IO with a-merits, and I've decided that now I'm going to work on earning a-merits and buying LotG, Numina, and Miracle uniques to toss into my base since I use those on virtually every character it seems. All level 30 of course. I'm trying to duo my two accounts each night to run five or ten tip missions and maybe an Ouro arc for merits, so that I can earn at least two a-merits a night. ^_^
I had a friend that for his own reasons wanted IOs at levels 28, 38 and 48, and had characters named "Capped at 28" etc (something like that anyway) for this purpose. -
Quote:I know this was true just a few weeks ago, but actually right now Hectacomb seems to be selling for much higher than it was.The Hectacomb set is much cheaper than Apocalypse on the market. Just saying.
Last 5 comparisons:
Apoc Triple: 561 - 760 million
Hectacomb Triple: 460 m - 1 billion (Really? Someone paid a billion for one? That's desperate.)
Apoc dam/end: 450-610
Hecta dam/end: 373-750
Apoc: dam/rech: 510-550
Hecta dam/rech: 376-750
Apoc dam: 323-450
Hecta dam: 300-500
Apoc rech/acc: 500-600
Hecta rech/acc: 425-500
Apoc proc: 333-375
Hecta proc: 201-500
Hectacomb are apparently more flippable. ^_^ I bought mine on the low end, and the prices for the Hectacomb seem to fluxuate a great deal, which means you can buy low with patience. But there's not as great a disparity between the two as I thought -- though the Hectacomb were selling more often at the low end of the scale a few weeks ago I think. -
"I almost have 36 slots filled?" Please!
I have 2 accounts, 36 slots unlocked and filled for each account for my main server Virtue. Then when I hit my 7 year anniversary my main account gained an extra slot -- but I don't know where to put it, since I can't put it on Virtue!
Yes I know, I can't play all 72 characters. But I still need more slots on Virtue! -
I'm just finishing slotting out my new fire/shield scrapper, which included 5 pcs each of Hectacomb, Apocalypse, Ragnarok, and Armageddon. For whatever reason Hectacomb seemed to be the cheapest of those four sets by a bit. I'm not sure why that is.
I don't pay as much attention to the other purple sets, but I know I have 5 pieces of Unbreakable Constraint and 2-4 random pieces of Absolute Amazement in my base. I'll have to check to see what I have when I get home tonight. I'd guess that the hold (Unbreakable Constraint) sells for more than the immobilize (Gravitational Anchor), but none of them are seriously expensive that I can recall.
