I suppose you can count then as something, only the Seven Years rewards is:

    A. Not out yet

    B. Nothing to to do with I20

I meant minor in the sense that it affected only a subset of the player base (only female widows). There is nothing at all for anybody in this issue, complicated or simple to program.

I'm sorry, what low level qol's are you talking about? The helper/help me system? I'm looking at the I20 info page and that's the only possible one I see. The other stuff (black helicopter change, league creation, and Respec change) isn't going to do much for any low level character. And if you meant the god-awful new UI then I'm really confused.

This isn't a balanced issue no matter how much you want to pretend otherwise. If you take out the incarnate slots and the two trials you are left with just the new TF and new SF, both are level 20-40 so certainly not for low level characters. Unless, I suppose, you're going to define low level as being under 50.

When's the last time we had an issue that didn't include something for the Character Creator? Even if it's minor like the Buttcapes or requires unlocking like the craftable costume pieces or completing the ITF, we've been given something new. Not this time.

And I don't want to drag this into a solo vs teaming debate, but when was the last issue where none of the new content could be started solo?

You make it sound like the Devs never had to take Defense on ATs that didn't normally have it into account when creating new content until IOs came along and because of that what we're now seeing is a logical outgrowth of a changing game.

When exactly were Forcefield Defenders introduced again?

I'd like to think that the previous 19 issues show that the Devs can create content without massively debuffing what is the main form of damage mitigation for many characters. Unfortunately, they didn't show it with this one.
  4. Another vote for "What the heck were they thinking?" here. It's change for change's sake and ugly to boot.

I would love to see this. Not that I wouldn't like the whole thing, but even just this would make me happy. "Who's the freshest corpse" is not a fun mini-game.

It's one of those things that doesn't happen often but when it does happen it annoys the hell out of me.
  6. I love doing this. In addition to all the ones mentioned above, I also enjoy:

Confusing Embalmed Cadavers to explode on their fellow Vahz.

Making Baatzul and Infernal fight it out in the Tarikoss SF.

Leading Longbow/PPD into the mobs that trigger side missions in Mayhems

Running the Raid side mission and racing to the back, causing pursing Longbow/PPD to fight their way through the building to get to you.

Finding a large group of NPCs and using Mass Confusion; whether grey conning or +5 to me, it always brings a smile to my face.

  8. On topic:

Listen to Turgenev and just spend some time on each server. Play with a few pick up groups or spend a couple nights eavesdropping on the more popular globals there if you can. And don't feel you need to limit yourself to just one server either. Many people have characters spread out and there are entire SGs with branches across multiple servers.

One major misconception about Virtue (and RP servers in other games) is regarding the percentage of people that actually RP on them. It's easily less than 20%. The rest of the population? Competent, polite players. And we run a lot of regular Hamis.
A large part of the Virtue = ERP stuff comes from Virtue players themselves. And I say that as someone who plays mostly on Virtue and is just as guilty of making those kinds of jokes. Heck, check out some of the "Hi, I'm new," threads in the Virtue forum. Invariably they will be told to feed the catgirls (or not to feed the catgirls, or feed them but not after midnight) and to be careful of Pocket D ERP, as if just setting foot in the place is going to have you spammed with tells asking what kind of underwear you are (not) wearing.

And yet that doesn't happen. Pocket D always has people in it on Virtue and almost all of them are not ERPing away in a corner. It's not uncommon for a second instance of the D to spawn outside of any event from people just dropping in to "hang out." I'm not saying that there aren't people engaged in ERP, but it's a small minority and it mostly becomes apparent through a mistell (most of which are faked anyway) and it tends to get mocked pretty quickly.

I think that on Virtue there's a general feeling of "I can make ERP catgirl jokes because I play here." I don't have a problem with that and I do it too, but I don't think we can complain when people who don't spend time on Virtue take it at face value and expect that every trip through Pocket D requires you to schedule an STD test.

I also think if you count people who are "casual roleplayers" (which is always defined differently) that the number moves closer to 50% but probably still not a majority.
((Although I don't think you'll last long if you get annoyed by by people talking in brackets))
((There's also a general bias against text type speak; spell out your words, even if you make constant spelling errors like me))

And on Hami, yeah, we take him out a lot. I'm sure it's changed with incarnates and shards now, but for a while Virtue had more Hami raids than any other server. Virtue even had people go over to Freedom to help organize some raids there. Which is proof of just how much the two servers hate each other despite all the bluster.

You really don't need to worry about this at all. As was already mentioned there isn't a penalty beyond having to get a new name. Unless you do this repeatedly (as in the "every character you've ever created" kind of repeated), it's not a big deal.

If you're still worried you can always petition yourself to get a GM to look at it. Personally I wouldn't waste my time doing that though.
  10. Yes, although I haven't tried it within the last couple months it has always been free before. Like you mentioned Test isn't hooked up to the store and so can't tell anyone that you're supposed to be charged.

Oh, don't worry. The bleak reality that bases have actually been abandoned will soon send you into the numb, mildly depressed feeling that the rest of us share.

Since their introduction in Issue 6 (Back in 2005!), only once has there been a change to bases. And that change was made entirely due to the PvP changes in Issue 13.

Outside of those two events the only acknowledgement that the game even has bases has been to grant a prestige bonus, which they've done all of twice in six years.

There was a brief ray of hope when there was a redname (I think Synapse?) who was actually assigned to work on bases, but it turned out that whatever he did actually made the interface worse. And so because it's hard Synapse no longer has that as part of his job and nobody else wants it.

I'm starting to agree with this more and more. Incarnate stuff is becoming one of those things where I can see the underlying idea, I can understand how it might work, and yet I can't quite grasp the utterly rigid nature of the execution in a game that's otherwise so open.

Take Origin: Batman's Natural, but then so's Superman even though their powers are nothing alike. Everyone supplies their own backstory and interpretation of what the Origins actually mean.

Remember when Power Proliferation was first introduced and we got that extremely painful bit about how it was Dr. Brainstorm who was the one who did it? Notice how everybody pretends that never happened? Who honestly makes every Cold Defender or Battle Axe Brute with a Science Origin because their powers were created by "Dr. Brainstorm's Resonance Manipulator"? And yet according to game lore that's exactly what you're supposed to do.

And now with Incarnates it's like the Dev team is just screaming, "WELL OF FURIES!" at everyone.

Captain Awesome got his power when he was bitten by a - THE WELL DID IT!

Lady Cool uses her knowledge of technology to - WRONG! SHE USES THE WELL!

SuperDude was born with the amazing power of - NO, NO NO! WELL, WELL WELL!!!

Also, I'm sick of Marcus Cole being the cause of, and solution to, all of the Multiverse's problems. But that's a different rant.

    That'll be Issue 22.

I20 - Cole invades the Multiverse and we fight him off.

I21 - Cole is forced to flee our massive counterattack and flees into a portal just as we destroy it, trapping him in the limbo between dimensions for all eternity. (New Hero TF!) Heroes celebrate their mighty victory. Villains don't, but only because they're too busy selflessly saving the Multiverse from Cole's remaining lieutenants. (New Villain SF!)

I22 - Cole, trapped in the limbo between dimensions, manages to harness the power of the Void and shatter limbo, forcing himself back into the Multiverse. However time itself breaks in the attack and Cole, now using the name Rularuu, is freed in the past only to be locked away by the Midnighters. Rularuu/Cole has been biding his time and having seen his past self fail once again he is setting out to finish what he started. You can discover Rularuu/Cole's backstory (New Hero TF!) or fight off the Rularuu invasion and save the Multiverse! (New Villain SF!)

This a thousand times over. Is there really nobody else in the entire multiverse? I swear Marcus "Marty Stu" Cole has only gotten worse since Jack left.

Statesman Prime: Greatest Modern Hero in the multiverse

Imperious* "Statesman Past": Greatest Ancient Hero in the multiverse

Reichsman: Worst Nazi in the multiverse

Praetorian Cole/Tyrant: Worst Dictator in the multiverse

My biggest hope now is i21: Rularuu Eats Marcus Cole (All of Them)

*Not technically named Marcus Cole, I suppose, but let's not kid ourselves.

This. BaBs specifically mentioned it as a "wave a magic wand" dream, but he was well aware of all the technical, time and cost constraints and he at least seemed to be under the impression that it was impossible from a practical viewpoint.

I don't know if any of the current Paragon Studios staff feel the same way he did, but I'd bet that if, IF, it's on the list of things to do it's dead last.

Not that I'd be opposed to it, especially as the OP presented it. It's a nice balance between keeping unique names and the inevitable conflicts.

  20. I glad von Grun is on here already. I love almost everything he says. Some more favorites from him that I don't think are on here yet:

"Are you ready, Character? Are you ready to wreak the terrible will of Science?"

    "Take more bees!"

"I don't know if you've noticed but I've been trying a couple different styles of evil laugh. It's hard to pick the right one."

"I'll have to give my 2 week notice in the traditional fashion by attempting to build a killer robot or evil demi-human clone, of course, and there'll be setting up a lab. Oh, and I'll need some twisted assistants, must give back to the community."

And a couple from Viridian's arc:

"I think I'm gonna need a new arm! Cool!" - Dreck, Freakshow leader, while getting beaten up.

"And this is why I never invite Nemesis to anything." -The Center gives guest list advice.

Disclaimer: I'm not part of the Gods of the Golden Age sg so their judging results will almost certainly differ.

Golden Age is the earliest superheroes, 30's-50's. Think two or three bright colors to stand out at the store; they may even clash if it helps get attention. Most are based off of circus performers or military (WW1 & WW2) uniforms. Lots of capes after Superman's breakout sucess, people tried to imitate it without really knowing what they were doing. Military style ones will often have buckles and large boots. Weird stuff works too. Comics were just starting out and it was a sort of "throw it in" period.

Silver Age is the late 50's to 70's. It's what I tend to think of as "classic" style costumes, despite having come second. Spandex makes it's appearance here. The military look is largely dropped. Colors get darker (but not as dark as 80's and 90's costumes) and don't clash anymore. Capes may or may not be around.

Here's a cover with Silver Age Flash (on the left) fighting Golden Age Flash.

It does exactly what it did before, it just takes two seconds longer to do it. That's a game balance adjustment. It isn't a large scale change to every character.

    Quote:
It doesn't throw out balance, why? Because the bonuses are so small, it's practically irrelevant.

Let's assume SO build. You REALLY think any of those (suggested) bonuses are going to make these great big advantages over the others?
Then what is the point? If they are so insignificant that people won't care, why waste development time and resources on them at all?

    Quote:
And correct Origin? What's the correct origin?
The correct one would be whichever I think gives that particular character the best bonus/costume/temp power ect. Currently I don't have to make that decision. Why should I have to?

    Quote:
And what is forcing ANYONE to choose between gameplay and concept?
Anything that gives me gameplay benefits at the cost of backstory for my character forces that choice. You may not personally think it's an important choice, but it's still there.

I choose concept over min/maxing ALL THE TIME.
I feel no obligation to make that choice at all. The current system doesn't require it of me.
